Twinkle purred as they were petted, a low whirring noise as they floated around, above and below the Captain. As Miranda guessed, Twinkle was indeed in high spirits - they knew the way and often floated off ahead before circling back. They seemed particularly interested in Vito's ritual, watching him pass out coins to everyone. Naturally Twinkle couldn't accept a coin themselves and shook their head when offered, whining forlornly at having to be left out. "Ooooh," they said when Vito took off his helmet. They floated closer and tried to play with his hair - only to find the end of their arm going right through him. With a chuckle, Twinkle circled Vito a couple of times and went off to inspect some of the other humans they haven't met before.
Their first target was Lain. The ghost had kept a reasonable distance from him thus far out of fear but, tentatively, they approached the man. It was quite possible that this wisp knew it was being watched and in return they inspected the slightly grimy white shirt, the dark trousers, even floating right down onto their belly to peer at his shoes. "T̶̵̨ó̴r̸̡̧͞n͠҉͠҉u̶̴̸̵͟?̧͜͞͞ " they asked, hardly expecting a reply at this point. "Hm..." The ghost gingerly reached out and tried to place the end of its arm into the curled palm of Lain's hand, but their continued intangibility made that into a hopeless prospect. They shrugged and floated alongside Lain, humming to themselves.
Despite being prey for the twisted creatures which lurk in the Grey Expanse, Twinkle seemed...remarkably trusting and close to their particular party - for reasons that, thus far, were hidden. Their childlike demeanour caused them to stay incredibly close to one person at a time but they also frequently looked over their shoulder. Should someone be lagging behind, they would float back and make a few more of their beckoning sounds, gently herding them together, encouraging them to stick in a group. However, there were also pensive moments; these arrived particularly when the team fell silent as they walked to the golden city. The flickering, erratic glow in their chest would dim and for a minute or so they would drift along aimlessly, emulating the emotionless floating of the rest of the greys in this world. Then, all of a sudden and out of the blue, they'd make a noise - a giggle, a click - and the glow would fire up in their chest brighter than ever. It was like watching someone nod off to sleep, briefly forgetting whatever they were doing before getting right back to it. Twinkle seemed to be actively struggling against these thoughtful periods.
"Aaaaah!" they cried joyously as the golden city rose out of the clearing. They did a backflip, pointing eagerly to its massive gates. "E͘͞ý̴̛a҉h̴͟͏,̢̛͘͘͠ ̶̶͢͟ȩ̸̷̡̛y̸̶̨a͝͏͡h̢̧̀͘͝!̡̀͘͢͝ ̶̶̷̵N͘͢͏͟o̡r̢̛̕͟ ́͢͜͞t̴̛͟o͘͢l̵̷̶ ̸͠͏̵t̢̕͜͞i̛r̵̶̵͢͡n҉̵̶̢i͢͏͠k̴̡i̡̛͟͢ ̴̶̢͡͏m̸̧̀͜͠e͏ǵ̷̀҉ ̧̨̡̢͟ş̡̢̕͘h̷͞҉u̸̴̢̡͏ ̸̀̀͘ţ͘à͜r̶̨̛̀!̴̵̢́ " shouted Twinkle and they took off at breakneck speed, heading straight for the shut gates, presumably to float right through them and into the streets beyond. Around three feet from the gates however they suddenly dropped as if their floating stopped working.
WHUMP
It did not sound anything like a cloud of mist hitting two massive golden slabs, it honestly sounded like a body cracking full force into a wall. Twinkle bounced back from the impact, rolling three times head over heels before lying prone on the floor. Dead silent - not a single squeak or grunt. Their dim golden glow was frantic, desperately fast, but they did not move an inch...it was possible the little thing managed to black out or something similar. Then, with a jolt, they sat upright. Clumsily and slowly, the translucent being wobbled up onto its legs using those lanky arms. It grumbled something before rather sullenly wandering back to Lain, trying to lean on his leg and grope for his hand now that they were assuredly solid and unable to fly for the time being. Perhaps the most unexplainable part was the fact that, aside from looking a little upset and dazed, Twinkle seemed remotely unharmed by a high-speed impact.
