Darkness.

That was what hit Harley first. The darkness that surrounded her. She woke because of the dull ache she felt in her head and also, for some reason, on her lower back. When she moved her hand to her back in an attempt to soothe it, the pain only intensified, causing her arm to shrink back to her side with a start. The suddenness of the pain was what helped her become more alert. Alert enough to realise that she had no idea where she was.

Okay, calm down. Look at what you know, she thought to herself in her mind, not moving from wherever she was.

Your name is Harley.

You're lying down on the floor.

She was on her side so her hand moved around on the ground to feel it up and she gathered that it was made of concrete.

There's something on your back that's causing you some pain.

Harley shut her eyes and tried to think hard of something else, anything that could help her. She reopened them a while later when she realised that nothing was there. Her mind was blank. It was as if the memories were there, but locked in a vault. She could feel it, but it was hazy and she couldn't quite make sense of anything. For some reason, all she could tell was her name, and there was a face in her mind, but she couldn't tell if they were someone she knew or not or whether it was even relevant.

Deciding that she wasn't going to be able to do much if she just continued to lay down, she slowly sat up. Doing so made her head ache more but she tried to ignore it and look around instead. The room she was in was small. There was a little light coming from a crack underneath the door in the room. There were two windows but both were boarded up completely. Harley figured she should go ahead with what she could see and some light would definitely be good. So, slowly, she rose to her feet, only to take a step forward and fall down again because she tripped on something heavy.

Harley landed with a grunt and rolled over onto her back slowly only to see that what she had tripped on happened to be someone else's leg.

She wasn't alone in that room.

Just count to ten and it will all be over.

That's what Nathaniel told himself when he woke up the first time with no idea where he was. Now he was telling himself this same thing for the fourth time and it didn't seem to be doing him much good. If anything it was making him worse. He was now slowly starting to panic. He didn't like darkness. He didn't know why and he couldn't remember what brought the fear about, but he was very uncomfortable and the idea of being in a place where he could barely see was quite unsettling.

Unfortunately, there was not much he could do. He had no clue what to do about his headache, or what to do to light up the room a little more. If he at least managed the latter, he could think straight. At the moment, he was huddled in the corner of the dark room, staring at what little light was available, coming from the underneath of the door.

For a moment, Nathaniel wasn't sure if he wanted the door open or not because he had no idea what was on the other side.

His gaze went to the other person in the room. When he'd first laid eyes on her, he hadn't been sure what to do. Initially, he was afraid she might be dead and he would end up like her. But then he had checked her pulse and let out a sigh of relief to see that she was definitely alive, just unconscious, like he was a few moments earlier.

Maybe if you wake her you can figure out what's going on. And at least that way you won't be in the dark alone.

It seemed like a good idea to Nathaniel so he figured he would give it a shot.

After a moment of hesitation, he let his arms fall from around his knees and he crawled over to the girl at the center of the room where she was laying down. Gently, Nathaniel tapped her arm in an attempt to try and wake her.
