An only child raised by a doting single mother, Ambrose was noisy, rambunctious, and too smart for his own good. He wasn't too much of a troublemaker in terms of property damage and other petty crimes, but he did often wind up in fights with the neighborhood kids, the vast majority of which ended with him getting his ass beat.
Concerned by his frequent scraps, his mother tried to distract him through gardening and practicing plant magic, which thankfully caught the young boy's attention. He became exceedingly passionate about both subjects, and with his constant practicing, it's not surprising he wound up a bit of a prodigy in practicing plant magic.
He was particularly fascinated by the medicinal value of plants and concocted numerous experiments in raising their potency and combining them for the treatment of various illnesses. Many, of course, failed, but some were impressively successful. The older and more learned he became, the more success he found, and his impressive grades earned him a scholarship to Blackwell Academy, where he joined a research team with a similar focus.
Ambitious, they set their sights on finding a way to cure infertility, something that had eluded even the smartest Magi for centuries. Much to everyone's surprise, they succeeded. Their consequential fame caused strife between members as people fought for fair credit, and Ambrose wound up walking away. Still, he continued his work, his sights set even higher. They'd cured infertility, sure, although the price of the medication was far too high for most to afford anyway, but was it possible to give the wombless the ability to bear children?
After many years of further research and helping various infertile people who requested and paid for his services, Ambrose successfully created a potion that gives biological males the ability to carry offspring, and was subsequently dubbed "The Fertility Doctor" by the public.

Riley has lived a pretty simple, mundane life. The middle child of a nuclear household, he was subject to the classic "middle child syndrome," often going overlooked and forgotten in comparison to his destructive older brother and intelligent little sister.
He was never particularly skilled at anything, though he at least found solace in reading and writing fiction. It was no surprise to anyone when he went to Elkwood University to study English, hoping to become a novelist. Unfortunately, Riley suffered from the classic issue of being unable to actually finish a novel. He could think up all kinds of interesting plot ideas, but putting them down into words was exceedingly difficult for him. He wrote several short stories for his classes, but he always felt them lacking in some way, leaving him feeling inept and unsatisfied.
Still, he successfully graduated and obtained his bachelor's degree. Having worked as a barista on campus during school, he proceeded to keep working there while he attempted to complete his first novel. This is how he met Francis, a regular customer and business major. Francis was the epitome of charm, effortlessly funny, and always ready with a compliment. They hit it off immediately, and before long, they began dating.
Having been together for many years now, things have changed. Realizing, with Francis's help, that he's unfit to be a writer, he took the sensible route of working as an editor, quitting his job at the café. Although it's not very glamorous and is, in fact, tedious most of the time, the job pays well. So who is he to complain? Especially when Francis is spending so many hours doing sales and earning them more money than they need.
Not long into their relationship, they moved to Rosé Town to be with Francis's family, where they remain to this day. With his own family being highly critical of Francis, Riley has lost most contact with them, though he's found Francis's parents to be welcoming, if not a little overbearing at times.
