Severe - Aithne has always been a no-holds-barred type of woman. She does not hesitate to do what she must, for the sake of her family. She can be harsh in her decision-making, only using logic and rarely ever using emotion. She is often seen as cruel for this by her peers and she has only sharpened her personality over the years and the tragedies she's endured, not willing to let anyone past her walls.
Determined - Aithne is likely the most stubborn person you could meet. She is not the type of woman to go to for compromise and does not cave when emotions are involved. She will do what she feels she must and deal with what consequences come with that decision in a mature manner. On September 2nd of 1987, Naimh Aiofe Murphy gave birth to a healthy baby girl she named Aithne Ingrid Murphy. She was the firstborn of the twins, followed seven minutes later was her twin brother, Rory Cormac Murphy. The twins were the second-born children to Naimh and her husband, Seán Calum Murphy. The couple was ecstatic to welcome the twins into the world, Seán stayed by his wife's side through all sixteen hours of labor. The twin's older brother, Cian Michael Murphy was brought in a few hours after the twins had been born and he shared the excitement as well, vowing to protect his younger siblings from that moment on. A few months after their birth, the family immigrated to America and chose to reside in New York City, New York.
Growing up, Aithne and her twin brother were attached at the hip, going everywhere together and doing everything together. They were rarely seen apart. Aithne was the troublemaker, always causing mischief while Rory was the quiet one, wishing to be reading in his room rather than causing trouble. They ran through the streets of New York, fully enjoying their childhoods. They had a large friend group and were always spending time with friends. They were rarely home simply because of how often they spent the night at their friend's houses. The only time the twins spent apart was when they went to their separate after-school activities. Aithne joined gymnastics and Rory joined Jiu-Jitsu.
The turning point in Aithne's life was when she was twelve years old. She had walked in on her family's meeting on accident and found herself face to face with some of the scariest men she had ever seen. Her father panicked and demanded she leave the room and he would explain everything later. She ran out of the room, terrified and she hid in her room for the rest of the night. Her father came to her that night, calmly telling her the truth about their family and the business they ran. Aithne felt her trust in her family completely shatter. And her father told her about their family legacy, how each of them had superpowers and they had a reputation in the city. From that moment on, Aithne was no longer a child. She seemed to mature overnight, hardened by the harsh truth behind her family name.
She went to Rory, telling him the truth as well. She never kept anything from him. And he was haunted by the actions of their family. The twins both knew their family was responsible for so much death, so much crime in the city. They thrived off of it, even. Aithne's anger seemed to make her powers emerge sooner than expected and soon, she began to move metal objects with her mind. She was frightened by her power but her older brother, Cian, helped her control it. He helped Rory as well, who had the ability to control fire. The twins went through vigorous training, becoming warriors in their own way and learning to master their talents and their powers.
And then Aithne graduated high school and she longed to leave the city. To leave her family name behind and to make her own way in the world. She went to Rory about these feelings and he confessed that he wished to stay, to help their family in the underworld of the city. Aithne was heartbroken. She had never been anywhere without her twin brother so she never imagined leaving him. She begged him to come with her but his mind was made up. A few months later, Aithne said her goodbyes to her parents, her older brother, twin brother, and her two younger siblings. They were still so young so she worried they might not remember her in a few years. Aithne left, unsure of what awaited her out in the world but she wanted to find out for herself.
Aithne happened upon a traveling circus and she was absolutely entranced by the beauty and spectacularness of it all. She could let herself be free, forget about her powers and about the harm her family had caused. She met most of the people in the circus, becoming quick friends with them. And then she met her. Victoria. She was the caretaker of the animals, genuinely caring for their wellbeing and taking great care of them all. The two women bonded and it was love at first sight for Aithne. She joined the circus, deciding that this was the path she wanted to take. She joined as a trapeze artist, using her gymnastics experience to her advantage. She also gained a few other talents along the way, such as fire-eating and sword-swallowing.
After about a year of dating, Victoria and Aithne married. They had a small ceremony, surrounded by their friends in the circus. They were married under a willow tree and gave each other simple rings. They didn't need the world, they only needed one another. They left the circus for a short while to go on their honeymoon. They went on a road trip around the country, visiting various landmarks and doing it all in their travel camper. They spent many nights under the stars and they took hundreds of pictures. They even adopted a stray elderly cat they came across, a brown tabby they named Kirk, after a character from Victoria's favorite show.
They returned to the circus and they had several years of bliss, traveling all over the country. They had considered leaving and having children at one point but Victoria's health prevented them from moving forward with that route. Victoria wanted to be the one to carry the baby but she had endometriosis. Aithne did not want to risk losing her wife so they shut the door on that dream fairly quickly. They quickly reached their five-year anniversary, then ten years. They held a funeral with Kirk, who had lived a long life and died at twenty-two years of age.
But one day Aithne received a phone call from an unknown number. She answered and she recognized Cian's voice. He was distraught, informing her of the tragedy that struck their family. Everyone had been slaughtered, killed over a blood feud that had started centuries ago and had been forgotten about. Cian was the only survivor, having been away on business at the time of the incident. Aithne completely broke down. She had lost her entire family but namely, her twin brother. The one who knew her better than anyone else in the world ever could. She returned to New York with Victoria at her side to attend the funerals.
Grief overwhelmed Aithne and she decided that she would not run from this world anymore. It was clear that the darkness of the city was calling for her and she felt the need to serve justice, to bring peace to her family. Victoria supported her, staying in New York with her wife. Aithne began to rebuild their family business with Cian's help and completely started from scratch. They only had their family name and their reputation. She quickly gained control of the underworld, rising to be one of the most feared and respected people in the city. Victoria was always there, comforting her wife when the nights grew too long.
Aithne began to use her powers once more and she gained more and more control this way. She used them to her advantage and against the superheroes of the city. She was deemed a supervillain, a class five mutant to be exact. The most dangerous there was. She gained countless enemies but she did not see them. She only saw her success with the family business and how her powers helped her achieve anything she wanted.
But a superhero was growing tired of Aithne and how she always managed to escape. He fired to kill her with his power and Victoria saw, screaming as she jumped in front of her wife. Aithne caught her wife, sobbing as she died in her arms. The superhero realized his mistake and he attempted to flee. Cian caught him, using his powers of flight. In anger, Aithne murdered the superhero in a gruesome manner. She then carried her wife home and began to plan the funeral. She did not cry at the funeral but rather let her emotions out when she was alone. She screamed and destroyed the home she had made with Victoria. From that moment, she vowed to never love again.
Victoria was killed four years ago and since then, Aithne has only grown more powerful. She ruled the underworld of New York City and refuses to show mercy to her enemies. Cian rules at her side, helping her with anything she needs. The surviving siblings of the Murphy family are some of the most feared people in the city and Aithne intends on keeping it that way.
