Guide to TF
Registry

  • The purpose of this guide is to provide in-depth information correlating to TF and give explanations and descriptions on topics the signups and rp threads just skim over. If you have any questions please PM me, do not post here.

  • Every roleplay has a set of rules members must follow. Due to the nature of TF, some rules are different then the norm.
    1. All posts must be 150 words or more.
    2. This is a realistic roleplay.
You cannot bring in a new aspect of a plant's life into TF without having factual evidence. Example: All tree-to-tree communication is done through a fungi-formed web (proven to exist through research by Wholleben & numerous other scientists).
    3. Communication must be bold and any inner actions describe in Italics
    4. Plants die of natural causes, yours is not invincible.
Pay attention to any nearby plants dying or sick as others can be affected. Also watch the news section to keep up to date on human interactions and naturally occurring threats.
    5.
It is required of all ORIGINAL(see the "Roleplaying in TF" section) characters to have a post template
    6. You must be active.
Do not join TF if you cannot commit to monthly activity checks and a minimum of 1 post per week.

  • TF is currently in pilot mode. Meaning extreme, sudden changes may occur and that TF isn't fully developed. Pilot mode is like the Beta-testing phase of a game.

  • As of right now there are three options for roleplaying.
    1.
Original Character - This is the normal set-up for most roleplays on Iwaku. You create a character, in this case a plant, and roleplay it as your own.
    2.
Original, Buy-ins - These characters are created by members but other peoples can "buy-in"(see below) to roleplay this character as well.
    3.
Buy-ins - These are characters introduced by a TF staff or through roleplay if a new character is needed. These characters are open to multiple members roleplaying them, meaning one person will post and then the next person will post off of that post(the previous post for the character).
    Basics of Roleplaying

Because of plants' stationary life, the core of TF will be the thoughts, their communication web and processes of a plant's life. For example the growing of leaves, the collecting of sun, soaking up water, ect. Because a plant roleplay has, as far as I know, never been done of FF before, TF will have to develop with its roleplayers.

    RP Example:
The sun's rays spread over the cluttered canopy, leaves unfurled their ends in attempts to soak up the suns rays. Dew, which had collected over night, slowly evaporated, some even rolled off as a light breeze rustled through the forest. Steadily the tree began the process of photosynthesis. Its branches seemed to stretch out to capture as much light as possible. As the day drew on that light was rapidly turned into energy, which fueled the tree. Allowing a limited number of electrical impulses to be triggered, giving the tree another mili-mili-millimeter of growth around its base.

    Tree/Plant Communication
Wholleben, a German forester, explains how trees communicate with eachother: "One thing is that mother trees suckle their children, they feed the young tree just enough sugars produced by its own photosynthesis to keep it from dying. Trees in a forest of the same species are connected by the roots, which grow together like a network. Their root tips have highly sensitive brain-like structures that can distinguish whether the root that it encounters in the soil is its own root, the root of another species, or the roots of its own species. If it encounters its own kind, I don't know if scientists yet know how this happens, but we have measured with radioactive-marked sugar molecules that there is a flow from healthy trees to sick trees so that they will have an equal measure of food and energy available....
trees also exchange information. When one tree is attacked by insects, we can measure electrical signals that pass through the bark and into the roots and from there into fungi networks in the soil that alert nearby trees of the danger. The trees pay for this service by supplying the fungi with sugars from their photosynthesis. And the fungi in turn protect their host trees from attacks by other dangerous species of fungi and contamination by heavy metals. Trees also send chemical signals through the air when they are attacked by insects. Nearby trees receive these messages and have time to prepare their defenses.... Trees make decisions. They can decide things. We can also say that a tree can learn, and it can remember a drought its whole life and act on that memory by being more cautious of its water usage."

Resources. TF life is based off of 3 resources: Energy, Food and Water.
Energy - Obtained through photosynthesis aka sunlight. 2% of sunlight taken in is converted to useful energy.
Food - food is obtained through consumption of dead or decaying matter. Can be transferred between plants.
Water - Soaked from the soil into the root system. Can be transferred between plants.
RP Requirements - None Set at the moment.

    Tree Growth.
Other plant growth is pretty self explanatory. For the sake of trees they grow about .5 an inch per week.
    Aging is 1 month = 1 year

    Defects.
Scaring(ex. gash on right face due to a nearby tree fall): Can be applied to trees and bushes.

Burn(ex. missing lower branches due to forest fire): Can be applied to trees, bushes and larger plants.

Disease/Pests(ex. termites): Can be applied to all.
    IC Statistics
In the roleplay thread a series of statistics will be displayed. These will be updated regularly and are the basis for TF rp. Below are descriptions for all displayed statistics.
Trees - # of trees in the rp

Weather - The weather, varies in areas.
Rain Average - Percentage of rain, where and how much rain falls.
Snow Average - Percentage of snow fall, how much snow may fall and where.
Frost - When frost is present. Percentage of chance of frost in certain areas or at certain times.

Disease - Percentage danger of getting a disease, for labeled areas, where specific diseases are sweeping parts of the forest.
Fire Danger - Chance of fire in specific areas

Human Interaction - The percentage of humans entering/intruding on the forest.
