Casimir's family is wealthy, both from successful business practises and inherited wealth, and his parents were determined to only further themselves. They were ruthless in their ambitions, stepping on anyone they needed to make it to the top, and they left many injured behind them.
Casimir came into the world with a heart of fire. He kicked and screamed his way through childhood. As a bold, troublesome, and temperamental child, he got into many fights, many of which he started at the slightest provocation. No disciplinary action, no matter how severe, stilled his agitation. And severe his punishments were, as his parents were desperate to get him to behave. He often attacked them as a result, which only made them harsher.
Freshly into adulthood, he enrolled in a military academy, out of restlessness more than anything. He performed admirably, and when he graduated he enlisted. It was during that time that his younger sister, Genevieve, was born. She was the first thing that ever truly soothed him. From the moment he met her, Casimir adored her. He visited her at every opportunity, and threatened his parents should they ever hurt her as they had him. Perhaps they took his threats to heart, or perhaps because she was a tamer child, but they were less severe with their daughter. Fate was unkind to their family, however. Genevieve took ill, and nothing they did helped her. Just before her fourteenth birthday, she died.
The family was distraught, and Casimir entered a deep depression, he had no interest in anything pleasurable, forcing himself into his work and only doing enough to keep himself alive. He crawled out of his depression agitated and bitter, seeking out danger. And danger he found, engaging in reckless and harmful activities. He took to writing at this point, too, attempting to find as much escape in words as he did his behaviours, but kept these words to himself.
And then he met Liam. Liam helped him to ease out of his self-destructive behaviour, although there was nothing he could do for his troubled nature. Casimir was still a man prone to violence. But he came to love Liam, and Liam encouraged him to be softer — both with himself and the world. He also encouraged him to leave the army, which was not his passion, and pursue something else. When his commission ended, Casimir did not re-enlist.
But Liam was a snake, and a couple of years into their relationship, he was the one doing the harm. Casimir weathered the abuses of his lover, and learned what he considered restraint so as not to hurt Liam back. But that restraint came at the cost of deep-rooted bitterness. Their relationship carried on for over a decade before it finally ended for good.
