[Samuel x Roman]

r o m a n

Musicals. Formal. Exams. Graduation. They all passed and Roman was officially done with high school. He had graduated with a very good ATAR score and had been accepted into the art school he had wanted, and now, he and his wonderful boyfriend had a free summer together before they went to Melbourne to start the newest chapter in their lives.

London was nine months pregnant now and it was clear that she was ready to pop at any moment. Roman had rejected parties and outings with his friends on the basis that he knew his twin needed him there when she was in labour, and he wasn't going to miss the birth of his niece or nephew. It was currently Christmas Eve -- though, it was still the mid afternoon -- and Roman and Evan were far too invested in this UNO game.

"UNO ... I win," Roman said happily as he finally put down his last card, throwing his hands up in victory to bask in the glory of having beaten his sister's boyfriend.

"Though, I couldn't have done it without my loyal Samuel," he crooned, cupping Samuel's face in his hands and planting a succession of kisses to his cheek.

"Roman?" came a small voice.

Roman looked away from Samuel to see London, who was sitting between her twin and her boyfriend, sitting with both hands on her huge stomach and saucer-wide eyes. Roman frowned, not getting it at first, when suddenly London winced in pain and leaned over her stomach.

"What's wrong?" Roman asked frantically.

"My ... my water broke."

Samuel gladly received his reward for being a good boyfriend in helping Roman win and was just a tad disappointed about Roman turning his attention to his sister until he realized something was going on. Which apparently was her water having broken.

"shit," Evan said. Samuel felt like the word summed up the situation pretty well, "Shit, uh, what do we do?"

Samuel wasn't sure who Evan asked since he was looking back and forth between every person in the room, one hand placed soothingly on his girlfriend's back in an attempt to do something, mind seemingly all over the place

"Help her inside? I don't know?" Samuel said, he had no real idea, but they at least needed to get a parent, "I'll run inside and tell your mum."

He figured her boyfriend and brother would be more useful as comfort for London than him and someone had to get someone who knew how to act in this situation, so Samuel stood and hurried inside to find Mrs. Hemlock so she could call the hospital.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, go, go,"
Roman said almost frantically as he practically pushed Samuel out of the door, before going to his sister and asking her questions about her contractions. He had been reading up on labour and from what she described to him, the baby was on the way.

Stellan was working so Ingrid and Brooklyn, who Roman had made up with since the drama that had gone down when London had announced her pregnancy, came out to help. Ingrid called the hospital as Roman and Evan helped London to her feet and out to the minivan. Brooklyn decided to drive.

Soon, London was being wheeled into a delivery room, and she was obviously in a lot of pain. Every few minutes another contraction would come and she would grunt or bite down on her hand to stop herself from screaming. Roman was almost freaking out, seeing his sister in such pain.

"Okay, you, you and you, out, we don't want too many people in the room during the delivery," the doctor said to Samuel, Brooklyn and Roman. London made a noise of protest and grabbed for her twin's hand so he couldn't leave.

"No, no, I need him!"

"Fine," said the doctor. "The rest of you, out."

Roman gave Samuel a horrified look before the doctor banished his brother and boyfriend from the room and proceeded to commence the delivery.

Samuel decided not to object when he was instructed out to the waiting rooms, even though the look he got from Roman made him want to stay to calm him down. If he was being honest, though, Samuel thought he'd prefer waiting outside anyways.

After a not to long amount of time of sitting in a kind of weird silence with Brooklyn, Samuel realized Evan's mum was still unaware of what was going on so he called her up and she promised to be there as soon as possible. A promised she kept as she joined not long after they had hung up, greeting Samuel with a warm hug and a request to fill her in on what had happened so far and how long they had been there, which he did.

She introduced herself as "Evan's mum, Charlotte, but please call me Charlie" to Brooklyn and Samuel had assumed he obviously hadn't been present during any of the times she had been over to the Hemlocks for baby planning and dinners that must have been less awkward than the one they had had with Samuel's mum.

The reason Samuel assumed it had been less awkward was simply because Charlie was slightly more socially capable than his mum and because she probably mixed better with the Hemlocks politically.

Samuel was happy she was there now, as the only thing the three outside could do was to wait until they got an okay to do something else from the people in the delivery room, and her happy chatting made Samuel a little less worried about his two friends and boyfriend.

Birth was scary. Roman stayed by his sister's side the entire time, rubbing her shoulders and brushing her hair out of her face because she couldn't hold his hand -- he could see the tips of Evan's fingers going dark with the strength of which she was holding his, and that would end in disaster for Roman. Regardless, he stayed put for the whole five or so hours of labour, until a small cry filled the room.

Roman was in shock as he watched a midwife place a towel onto London's chest and then place the smallest human he had ever seen on top of her. London, who was crying softly, gazed at her baby in wonder, at the little person she had been carrying for nine months, who was now in the real world, a separate being. Her child.

"Congratulations, you have a healthy baby girl," the midwife said to London and Evan.

A girl. A niece. Roman had a niece. Ingrid was crying too, and she pulled Roman away for a moment so Evan and London could fill out the birth certificate and have a few moments alone with their daughter. Allison Rose Grace Johnson. She was beautiful.

"Here, would you like me to hold her so you can wash up?" the midwife offered London.

London shook her head and looked up at Roman. "Do you want to hold her?"

Roman's eyes widened but he nodded vigorously and sat in the chair in the corner, as Ingrid placed Allison very gently into his arms. She was now wearing an nappy, a white jumpsuit and soft little yellow booties with a matching hat, and she was wrapped up in a thin blanket. She was easily the most beautiful baby Roman had ever seen, and he was so transfixed by her, rocking her gently in his arms and singing her a soft lullaby, that he didn't even notice his mother walk out to the hallway.

"London and the baby are fine," she said happily to Brooklyn, Samuel, Charlotte and Stellan, who had showed up sometime during the labour. "Evan's helping her clean up but she's fine, and everyone can come see her and the baby when she's out of the shower. We don't want to overcrowd her so soon." She looked at Samuel. "Roman probably wants to see you now, though."

After several hours of being a very weird mixture of bored, excited and worried Ingrid came out to tell the people waiting outside that the birth had gone well and that London and the baby were fine. Samuel was happy to be told he could go see Roman, since he hadn't gotten a chance to make sure he would be okay when leaving the room.

Almost as soon as he walked in and saw Roman, Samuel stopped.

He hadn't expected to see Roman with the baby. He hadn't expected too see him rock the little one back and forth ever so gently, singing softly and sweetly.

Samuel also hand't expected to cry when he saw the baby, and he wasn't really, but there was something about the sight of his boyfriend being completely mesmerised by the newly born that made him feel emotional. And being emotional for Samuel meant tearing up a little.

He walked over to them quietly, letting Roman continue to sing while he placed a kiss on his cheek and took a moment to look at the adorableness that was his boyfriend's little niece or nephew.

"Hello" Samuel mumbled very quietly and very softly. The baby didn't respond, to calm in their uncle's arm, he decided it was the most precious thing he had ever seen.

Roman looked up when Samuel came into the room and gave him a small smile without pausing his quiet singing. When Samuel kissed his cheek he leaned into it, but other than that, every ounce of his attention was being poured into his little niece, who was easily one of the most beautiful and captivating things on the face of the planet.

"It's a girl," Roman murmured to Samuel when he had finished the song. "Allison Rose Grace Johnson."

The bathroom door opened and out came London. She was very weak, understandably, and Evan had to help her back over to the bed. Ingrid came in. "Do you want some rest, honey?" she asked her daughter softly.

"No, I want to see everyone," London insisted, shaking her head and holding her arms out for her own daughter.

As the other three adults filed into the room, Roman rose to his feet and very carefully walked over to his twin. He very carefully placed the small and sweet baby into her arms, before kissing his twin on the forehead tenderly. "Congratulations, she's absolutely stunning," he murmured to her only, before stepping away so others could meet the baby, perching himself on the end of London's bed since that was where she wanted him. He pulled Samuel down next to him.

Stellan stepped up first, crouching next to the bed to peer at his granddaughter. "Wow, she's beautiful," he said, in a voice that indicated that he was almost about to cry from the emotions he was feeling. Brooklyn peered over his father's shoulder, and it was clear that he was just as amazed by the beauty of the creature as Stellan was.

Little baby Allison. It was absolutely adorable. Samuel kissed Roman's cheek again and soon London was back in bed, her family surrounding her and Allison given back to her to be held securely in her arms.

Charlie told the couple she was proud of them and complimented the baby as well. Everyone was happy and it was all very sweet. Samuel threw occasional glances Roman's way, almost more obsessed with his boyfriend's reactions to the child than Allison herself. Which was okay because she got plenty of attention from everyone else.

Despite everyone in the room and his mother now stroking his hair Evan didn't seem to register anyone else in the room other than London, who's cheek he kept kissing every once in a while and who he kept mumbling things Samuel couldn't hear too, and little Allison who he had given the gentlest of kisses when London had gotten her back but who he was now mostly looking at to not disturb the calm Roman had lulled her into.

Samuel had thought the looks Evan had been giving London had been the most adoring he had ever seen, but it paled compared to the way he looked at his daughter. His eyes were a little red and puffy, a rare sight on Evan but if there was one time he was allowed to cry without anyone commenting on it, it was when his daughter was born.

After a couple of more expressions of pride and adoration of the new parents and their baby, Stellan said he had to get back to work to wrap up some paperwork before the day ended and Brooklyn was going with him, since part of his summer work placement was to assess the legal side of a police force. Both men kissed London on the cheek and congratulated her again before departing.

Soon, a doctor came in and everyone left the room so he could assess London's state and perform checks on the baby. He announced that London was healing well, better than most, and therefore they could take her and the baby home once they had filled out most of the paperwork. London was happy about this. Once she and Evan had signed everything necessary, Roman took baby Allison in his arms so Evan could wheel London out to the minivan and help her in. Charlie came along in her car after Ingrid invited her over for dinner.

When they reached the Hemlock household Ingrid announced that London would be confined to bed for the next day or so and it was up to the boys to cater to her every need, which Roman agreed with wholeheartedly. He carried Allison up to her bedroom, which had a bassinet sitting beside the bed, and placed his niece into his sister's arms.

It was then that baby Allison cried. Roman immediately started panicking but London rolled her eyes at him.

"She's just hungry," she told her twin, unbuttoning the top of her shirt. Roman looked away respectfully as she held her baby in a way that her chest was covered while she fed Allison.

"You know we don't care, right?" Roman said to London, sitting on the end of the bed. He referenced himself and Samuel, who was also in the room, and the fact that neither of them gave a shit if London breastfed in front of them.

"Yeah, I know, it's more for me," London said, and Roman knew that was another issue that pertained to her self confidence, but he didn't bring that up while she was so happy.

Roman leaned over as Allison opened her eyes for the first time. A huge grin immediately met his face and he leaned back to murmur in Samuel's ear, "She has my eyes. Do inform your friend."

"Really?" Samuel mumbled back, a little surprised, he really had thought she would get either London's or Evan's, but if this was true he had to admit it was just a little funny, "let's let him live in blissful ignorance for a while more"

"Let him live in blissful ignorance about what?" Evan said, voice quiet and soft but still somehow demanding. He hadn't spoken much in other things than the sweet mumbles of 'I love you', 'she is beautiful' and 'you are beautiful', to London, Samuel had managed to hear at some point between the hospital and London's bedroom.

"Nothing?" Samuel tried, he doubted Evan would care much in that moment, but last time they had spoken about it had managed to stress out London after a little while.

"no, tell me"

"She does have Roman's eyes, apparently" It couldn't hurt too much

Evan looked at Samuel and Roman with an expressionless face for a moment, then to his little baby daughter.

"Nah, hers are prettier" The tone in Evan's voice was absolutely confident, but he didn't sound at all defensive or argumentative like he would have otherwise. He just sincerely considered his daughter's eyes to be the prettiest.

Surprisingly, Roman didn't care that Evan didn't make a competitive, malicious or defensive comment. Maybe it was because Roman agreed -- Allison's eyes were by default prettier because they were on his little baby niece. Or maybe it was because everyone was happy as fuck, or maybe it was because Roman liked to see how enthralled by Allison Evan was. Whatever the reason, he was happy.

When Allison had finished feeding, London detached her, did her shirt back up and gently burped her baby. Roman knew she had been reading and taking lessons from both her mother and Evan's prior to the birth of the child, so she knew what to do and how to properly care for her baby. Roman was so overwhelmingly proud of his sister, it was unbelievable.

London kissed Evan on the cheek before looking over at Samuel. "You haven't held her yet," she pointed out. Everyone else had, between the birth and London being taken home, everyone else had had a chance to hold Allison, at least for a few moments. Roman glanced down at Samuel and gave him an encouraging nod.

Samuel didn't know why he suddenly felt a little nervous at the implied suggestion of him holding Allison. Maybe it was the fact the fact that he had barely even seen such a young child before, maybe it was that he felt like London should be holding her own child right now, or at least Evan or Roman who actually was her father and uncle.

He still wanted to hold her though, so he held his arms out so London could place her in them. He held her securely against his chest and greeted her with a small "hello" once again, and this time Samuel thought she looked a little confused about not being with her mother.

Actually holding her felt incredibly overwhelming. made the fact that she was an actual human being feel more real. And she was warm and she was adorable with her tiny little face, and her tiny little hands. And she did, in fact, have Roman's eyes, Samuel would know with all the time he spent staring into them and admiring them.

He continued to hold her for a little while, just looking at her with wonder in his eyes and feeling a little more relaxed than he initially had, but he still felt like she shouldn't really be held by him in that moment so he carefully handed her back to London.

"I can't hold her, she's too cute" it was really kind of true as well, she was, and Samuel had maybe started to tear up a little again at how overwhelming it was, and he wasn't about to let that escalate further.

It was incredibly endearing to see Samuel hold the baby. Roman smiled as he interacted with little Allison, who really did look a little baffled when she was greeted by the new person, but soon grew to accept it and her green eyes flickered around the room, studying new details. Roman's heart practically exploded as he watched Samuel interact with the infant -- and he knew, he couldn't wait until they had their own kids.

London happy accepted the baby again when Samuel handed her back. Roman rubbed his emotional boyfriend's back as London leaned in and gave her daughter a very soft kiss to the forehead.

"Here, Daddy," she said quietly with a small smile, handing the baby to Evan. Roman agreed, he didn't think Allison had been held by her father enough during the short hours of her life.

"Evan, do you want me to teach you how to sing?" Roman teased. "So you can sing her lullabies. She fell asleep pretty quickly when I was singing back in the hospital." Roman couldn't resist making a small teasing comment.

Evan smiled brightly and mimicked his girlfriend by giving his daughter a gentle kiss as he received her. Right away he started to instinctively rock her ever so slightly.

"What makes you think I can't sing" Evan said in response to Roman's teasing, adding on a slightly offended tone but he still sounded calm to not upset the baby. Apparently all it took to make Evan calm was for him to become a father, "I am a terrific singer"

Samuel rolled his eyes since Evan was lying. Or well, over exaggerating. He sounded decent but he hadn't have the natural talent or the years of training Roman had had to achieve the perfection that was his voice.

"So jokes on you, now I can use that information, and I don't even need your help"

"Oh, really?"
Roman challenged, smirking at his friend. London rolled her eyes at Samuel as if to say 'can you believe these two?' By this point, the two of them were probably used to their boyfriends' antics, but still, it was probably a little annoying to have to deal with their shit.

Roman leaned forward, softly brushed a hand over his niece's fuzzy hair, and began to sing very softly, a lullaby in French he'd learned when London had been pregnant because he was fluent in the beautiful language. In a matter of minutes, Allison's stunning eyes slid closed and she began to snore very softly.

London's eyebrows raised in surprise and Roman leaned back, smirking at Evan victoriously. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" he teased.

Despite Roman delivering the a lest of burns by singing Allison to sleep Evan seemed to prioritize his daughters rest over arguing with Roman.

"Go easy on him" Samuel whispered to his boyfriend as he leaned back from the little girl..

"Hey, I don't need anyone to go easy one me" Evan defended himself equally as quiet and gently kisses his daughters forehead again.

Samuel just chuckled and pulled Roman in a little closer to whisper "also, please speak French more" in his ear. An attempt to distract him from teasing Evan anymore. He deserved a break today off all days, London did too. But Samuel assumed she found their boyfriends weren't annoying enough to stop being mildly amusing.

Roman looked at his boyfriend flirtatiously. "Anything for you," he said in French, knowing that Samuel wouldn't understand but also knowing that he'd like hearing Roman speak the language very much. Roman didn't blame him. French was a beautiful language.

London affectionately gazed upon her beautiful baby and Roman saw her stifle a yawn. He chuckled, stood up and kissed his twin on the cheek.

"We'll let you get some rest," he said, smiling at Evan and the baby before taking Samuel's hand and gently leading him across the hall and to his own bedroom. There, he sat on the bed with his boyfriend and smiled at him.

"If I may say so myself, she has absolutely beautiful eyes," he said in French. Then, in English, "If I'm going to speak more French then you need to speak more Spanish."

Samuel listened carefully when Roman spoke the other language, he had no idea what he was saying but it sounded beautiful and hot and Samuel wondered why he hadn't asked him to speak the language more before.

They left London to rest and for the parents to get to be alone with their child again and went back into Roman's room. Samuel pretended to give Roman's request some thought, in reality he could speak however much Roman wanted in the language but it was no fun if he didn't get to tease him.

"No, I just wanna hear you speak French and not put in any effort myself" he placed a kiss on his boyfriends lips and switched over to Spanish anyways, "but I guess I love you enough to put some effort in"

He kissed him again before falling back into the bed with a sigh. It was a both a tired and happy sigh, today had been long day, but one filled of joy.

"I can't believe Evan and London are parents now" he said, back to English. It truly was weird to imagine one of his best friends of so many years as a father, especially someone as childish as Evan. But Samuel was confident his friend would be a good dad, "like, even if we've known it for nine months it just feels so surreal"

r o m a n
Roman found the Spanish language to be just as beautiful as French, and he made a mental note to learn it when he had the time so he could speak to his boyfriend in the language of his people. Roman had no French blood but he knew their language, so why couldn't he learn that of his boyfriend?

"I know. It's hard to believe." Roman's twin sister was a mother at the tender age of eighteen. Once upon a time that might not have been so rare but now, it was hard to believe it had even happened. But, he was happy, because he had a stunning little niece he wouldn't trade for the entire world.

Roman rubbed Samuel's chest and muscled stomach as he spoke.

"You know, seeing you with Allison was possibly the cutest thing. It made me realise that you're total father material."

Samuel smiled, both at his boyfriend's touch and comment. He wasn't sure if he was 'father material' but he really hoped he could be a good dad one day. One that gave his children all the love they deserved. He knew for a fact that that was how Roman would be, with how he had been with his little niece.

"I was freaking out on the inside, it was kind of a lot" Samuel chuckled but spoke in a quiet voice "you're going to be the best dad one day, and the best uncle now. The way you were with Allison was so sweet, I really thought I was about to cry for a moment."

He placed a gentle hand on Roman's chest and let it trace down slowly as it spoke, but it came to a stop as a thought popped up in his head.

"Do you think we'll actually be able too have kids at some point" he mumbled, looking at Roman with slight worry in his brown eyes, "I mean, all fantasising about a future where we have a hundred children aside, it's way harder to adopt if you're not married right?"

Samuel knew it was weird to talk about this at the age of eighteen, but it didn't feel weird with Roman because he knew he didn't ever want to be with someone else. And it felt a little more relevant since it wasn't just talking about if they would want kids, but if it even was a possibility.

It was something he didn't reflect over too much, the fact that they didn't have the same right to marry, it seemed so far away and worrying about people throwing out slurs seemed like more of a concern at this point in their lives.
