Of Magic and Mayhem

Ann walks out into the cool night air, staring up at the stars. In her hand was a book from the library, she'd have to make sure to keep it hidden. The note said she'd need allies, people who would agree with her, but who?

She tucked the book away in her satchel bag. Walking down the steps of the castle and into the city. It was only a matter of time before the people of the royal palace started to look for her again. She wasn't exactly first-in-line royalty so she could get away with a little more freedom, but there is always a point where they realize that the blood of royalty needs to be kept tabs on. Her time was running out, she looked around the streets and the buildings, thinking to herself as she walked.

Carson nodded at the young feline. "Was she of my kind, or of yours? Though we get along, nature does not always allow cats and dogs to be together. I know you have a thing for wolves, but let's face it," he said, turning towards Wane, "I just wouldn't work." He took a quick glance at the sky. Twilight was falling, which meant easier to resurrect the dead. It would cost as much to his life as it normally did, but would be far less mental strain on him.

As they approached the small hut, an eerie fog crept amongst the carved stones marking the resting places of those passed. It was the perfect place to be on the human holiday of 'Halloween'. He still did not understand much of human culture, and did not care to lean. When they made it to the little cottage, Carson held the door for his friend, and gestured for him to go inside. It was surprisingly cozy, the wall made of the stump of a fallen tree, carved into it were shelves, racks of dried meat, the charcoal stove in one little area of the small building. A hand carved wood table and chairs were over by some counters stained with blood. The odd dessert was sitting on the table, now cool enough to eat. The Necrophage filling had changed from a luminescent green to a deep violet. He pulled out a stone knife and served two pieces to them, one for himself, one for Wane. "Well, eat up, kitten, and tell me what happened in the Elder's Chamber."

Elena, after buying the bow that caught her attention, and a quiver of arrows, was back in her tree house. She was perched in a window and looking out at the sky. Her hood was down, letting the wind tussle her hair. Gold eyes where focused on a patch of moving grass a distance away as she guessed what it could possibly be. Her hand lifted another piece of meat up to her lips. She'd decided after she was done eating to get back to her rabbit hunt she'd abandoned when she decided to hunt the princess instead. The woman leaned back, so her head rested against the wood of the window frame, she popped another bite into her mouth mutely.

After the food was finished, she got ready to go back out on the hunt. Her destination was the in between lands this time. She wanted to see if she could spot another anthro. She shed her cloak for brief seconds, only to switch out her quiver and bow for the new ones she'd bought. In the back of her mind, she hoped she wouldn't run into trouble while she was on her rabbit hunt/ spying excursion. After her equipment was switched out, she whisked the cloak back into place and headed for the window. She didn't use a ladder to get down from her tree house. She climbed up and down the trunk of the tree itself.

Her feet touched the ground and she began her hike to the neutral zone, pausing every now and then to shoot a rabbit. She had to fill an 'order' of at least five of them for the Smiths on Waterbie Lane. Soon, she was pulling herself back up into the same tree she had been perched in earlier that day. Four rabbits hung from a rope that she looped over a branch a little ways away from her. She let her back settle against the truck as she let her gaze scan the treeline of the anthro's forest.

Wane shrugged "yeah, she was a wolf. I figured I'd hit her up anyways" he laughed lightly. He followed the wolf into the foggy graveyard. Wane shivered slightly, this place always gave him the creeps. Then again, anything about Carson gave him the creeps. He'd mostly gotten used to it. Mostly.

He walked into his home, "Charming decor as usual, really cozy" he said as he sat at the table, taking in the aroma of the cobbler. Carsonagon served him some of it, and he went to take a bite of it. As usual the flavor assaulted his senses, and it was no exaggeration to say that it was likely the best thing he'd ever tasted. "Okay gramps, here's the thing. I think you were right about some weird human actually liking us." He took a gulp "Veil the coon ring any bell? The elders just received a message from him, sent by someone on the other side. Apparently he wants to be all chummy with those guys". He takes another bite of the glorious dessert and looks at the older wolf questioningly.

Waking from his nap Lamar flared his nostrils smelling the air there was something different, something that worried him but also enticed him. Stomach growling he yawned and decided he would go investigate the smell it seemed to be drawing him in anyways, it smelled of bird and rabbit but also with a smell of human a smell he wasn't to fond of. Fallowing the smell sneaking quietly through the brush in the neutral zone that he had claimed as his own for now after just leaving his fathers family. He shook his head getting distracted, he continued fallowing the sent as the smell got stronger he moved down wind so that whatever was giving off this enticing smell they wouldn't know he was near. Getting closer he noticed a dark figure up in one of the trees, sneaking a little closer creeping behind the figure he gave a deep warning growl letting whatever it was know that this was his home and they do not belong here. Just to be sure is warning was clear he also verbally spoke the warning the human smell was coming from the shadow but so was the smell of bird with a small smell of dead rabbit "You don't belong here this is my home, leave." he knew it was a safe zone at least it was what he was told but it didn't hurt to scare this unusual smell from him it bothered him that he didn't know it and he didn't like it.

Elena nearly fell from the tree when the growl reverberated from behind her. Carefully, she maneuvered so that she was facing the sounds origin. Golden eyes narrowed beneath the shadow of her hood as she looked down at the man. All she could see from her perch was a human man wearing one of those shade hats. Her head tilted to the side.
"and neither do you." She responded, voice quiet but firm. "There was a growl just now, it could have been a large animal." She reached for the strong of rabbits and draped them over her shoulder before letting herself fall to the ground on the other side of the tree. She turned to glance back at the man. "Humans shouldn't be so close to the border, what would your family do if you never came home." Without waiting for a response she began to walk away. "Come, I'll walk you back to town." She volunteered.

Carson looked down at his desert thoughtfully. "Veil the Coon... I remember that name. He was... one of the few of us who believed that we and they could coincide in peace. I had written him off as delusional years ago, but after seeing what that girl did today... He may have been right after all." He took a bite of the strange desert he had concocted. It still amazed him to a degree that one of the deadliest fruits in their realm could be so delicious when cooked. A ripe Necrophage looked like a glowing green mango covered in black webbing, but about the size of cantaloupe. Being rather large, it only took one to make a cobbler. He still had two left, so maybe he would use on in a ritual and bake the other...

Shaking his head clear of the thoughts, he returned to the topic at hand. "If that message was indeed from Veil, and came from the other side of the plains, there may be some hope for peace." He said and sighed as he sat down. He was now definitely able to feel how old he was.

After giving the Black Pearl Crystal to Princess Ann, Leo had an other flashback from his childhood when he was with his dad at the mining excursion.
"It will serve you well, it will shape your future..." his dad said to him.
Leo had a strong feeling that he had to follow the Princess Ann and see what she was up to, because that Crystal wasn't a regular crystal at all.
He had to trust his gut. When the Princess left the store, Leo went quickly at the back of the store, where is father was resting and eating his evening meal.

"Father, the Black Pear Crystal gave me a sign! Could you please take care of the store and close tonight?"
His father made a head sign to him, letting him know it was alright.

Leo grabbed a dark brown leather cloak front the closet, stepped out of the store and started to walk in the direction of the castle.
It was already getting pretty dark outside, he could barely see the sunset in the distance.
He was expecting the Princess to go back to the castle at this point.

After searching the streets and walking quickly towards the castle, he grasped a glimpse of her cloak in one of the side streets.
Out of breath, he starts to slow down but keeps following her, discretely.
It was too dark to see, but he was managing to follow her.
Initially, he thought she would be with some guards for protection, but it seemed like she was walking alone, by herself.

He kept following her, since he was intrigued and also for her protection, since the city isn't the safest place to be.
She ended up entering the castle, but Leo stayed back, since he had no permission to enter, since he is a simple citizen.

He took a quick peek at his right and saw a bunch of boxes piled on top of each other in the backstreet of a bar. He decided to use them to climb up and get on the roof of the building. It was a cool night, Leo looked at the stars and kept thinking and wondering about the significance of the recent events... He was determined to find Princess Ann tomorrow and see if he can be of any use to her.

After a while on the roof, while he was looking at the beautiful castle, he saw a bright light coming out of one of the rooms. He didn't know what it was, it couldn't be an explosion he thought, since he didn't hear any sounds...

45 minutes passed

Mesmerized by the stars, Leo couldn't sleep tonight, he thought of taking a nice walk back home when he heard someone walking nearby... he peeks over and sees Princess Ann.

He makes sure no one else is arround and whispers... ( kind of )
"PSSSST!" "Princess Ann!" "It's Leo!" He waves at her.

Shocked at her response, Lamar stared at her wide eyed underneath his hat. How could this girl be so oblivious ? He thought to himself as he watched her walk away.
As she got further away, an idea popped into Lamars head. If he could gain some information on the humans and report it to the elders, maybe his standing in the
community would improve and his day to day life might get somewhat easier. Deciding he had better fallow her before she decided to turn around to ask questions, He silently walked along side her out of the neutral zone and into the humans territory. Frowning a little to himself he never did like to come here, at least unless it was a necessity for clothing and other things. Leaving his thoughts he looked around becoming more alert as they walked further and further along towards town.

Ann looked up at him, wide eyed "Leo? What are you doing here? And are you trying to whisper?" she couldn't help but smile, but quickly got serious again "Nevermind, listen I need to talk to you, it's important!" She said, her hand reached into her satchel, she kept her hand inside the bag, grasping the book protectively and ready to pull it out if the moment arises.

Wane was shocked, this kept getting stranger and stranger. He took one last bite of the odd desert and then forced himself to a stand "Well I won't have anything to do with those furless freaks! They can all die for all I care!" He crossed his arms over his purple cloak, fur standing on end "That human is crazy, and so was Veil, there is no way that I'm going to side with them!" His tail lashes about behind him angrily. He shakes his head and sighs, dropping his arms back to his side "Whatever, Anyways thanks for the Necrophage Carson, I owe ya one!"

The old necromancer nodded at Wane. "Well, if it will be war you'll have, it'll be war you'll get. Unless all anthrokind and all mankind agree to peace, there will always be nothing but resentment and spilled blood." he shifted in his seat as Wane prepared to leave. "I'll hold you to it, but be warned, owing me is the last thing some would want to do. You forget- I'm the one in the village who deals in the dead." he said ominously, an alarmingly creepy look spreading across his face. He often had fun scaring the younger ones. Particularly Wane, since he had known him so long. "You have a good night, friend." he said lightheartedly.

Leo used his acrobatic skills using the boxes and jumped down next to Ann. "What is going Princess Ann? You seems worried." He looks at her very concerned. "I'm glad that you are here since I was looking for you, I had this feeling that you needed help." He takes a second look around the area, trying to see if anyone is around. Leo has a very confident stance, with one hand resting on his dagger sheath. Leo whispers...
"We shouldn't stay outside, it's not the safest place to be during the night. Would you like to keep this conversation going at my father's store?"

Elena walked with a hunters step, not a sound to be heard from her feet. Silence never bothered the woman, she was used to it. And so, the silence from the man in the hat didn't phase her in the slightest. At the edge of town, however she finally spoke again.
"We've returned." She stated the obvious, still not looking at the man. "Which part of town do you reside in?" She inquired as she debated on letting him walk to his home alone or not. He wasn't a young girl like the princess had been. Would he even need her to escort him home for safety reasons?

Ann nodded, "Yes, we should return." She followed Leo back through the quiet town, nearly asleep with the fall of night and the streets were lit by lanterns that hung on the sides of buildings. When they arrived at the shop Ann took a deep breath and looked at Leo "How do you feel about...Anthros".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wane pulled his ears back on his head when Carson's did the creepy voice thing again, but they quickly relaxed on his head again. He smirked, as a kid he would be more afraid of him, but he couldn't help but smirk "Relax gramps, It's just an expression. Maybe if I actually needed to owe you something I could slice myself and seal it in blood" he muttered sarcastically. He gave Carson a fanged grin "You have a good night too! Or as good as it gets at your creepy manor" he laughed, waving the anthro farewell.

Wane navigated his way out of the graveyard, which seemed creepier than ever this late at night. He made his way to the forests edge again, leaning against a tree and staring into the mountains and the looming castle. Far ahead he saw several dots of yellow lights that emanated from all the buildings like earthbound stars. He had to keep reminding himself that the humans had terrible eyesight and weren't good at seeing in the dark. Wane leaned against a tree, his ivory fur brushing up against the bark.

It had been his habit to stare at the humans realm, concocting plans of murder or revenge. Today however, he'd felt nothing but confusion. It seems like the sides to this war was about to split even further. Already amongst the Anthros he'd heard whispers about siding with peace because of the influence of Veil. Now there would be Anthros and Humans for war, and Anthros and humans for peace. The conflict had yet to begin and already they have common goals.

Wane's ears perked up when his sapphire eyes noticed movement, two smudges of people in the grasslands that separated the two realms. He briefly wondered if they were of his kin, or of human origin.

"Well... I assume you heard about the Legend of Temrin and Shadowclaw. People say that it's only a fairytale story but inside my heart, I know that the world can be a better place and that there is hope in Humans and Anthros. This is why I believe in that Legend.". Leo walks into his room where his bow was and took it in his hands, looked at it with precision, checked the string making sure everything is working fine. He then turns back over Ann and says... "I personnally never met one, I only saw a couple of them running like swift shadows near the outside of their forests..." A moment of silence took place while Leo was putting arrows into his leather quiver. "I feel like times are getting pretty dark, I sense like the city is quite tense."
Leo puts the last arrow remaining into the quiver and says... "It's always better to be prepared for anything right?" He then smiles at Ann.

Micah flicked a bit of water from her paw, stepping away from the stream's edge and turning. She plucked her cloak from a low hanging branch, throwing it on and securing it. With a quick glance at her surroundings, Micah started forward, placing her paws carefully to avoid stepping on anything potentially noisy. The wind blew towards her, carrying a familiar scent with it. The anthro chuckled, and changed direction. Why not? Amber eyes searched the trees for... What was his name again? Wane? Yeah, that's it. Nothing interesting had really happened as of late, and Micah found herself a bit bored. Looks like his company would have to do. I do hope first impressions aren't everything.

Eventually, the edge of the forest came into sight, along with the feline anthro Micah had encountered earlier in the day. She cocked her head, but kept moving forward till she wasn't too far behind him. Crossing her arms over her chest, she stopped, head cocked to the side. "It's Micah, by the way." An amused grin found its way onto her muzzle. Her ears flicked as she took another step forward. Micah looked over her shoulder, and pulled her cloak back into position as she faced him again.

[Got tired of lurking.]

Wane ears flicked at the sound of a voice, turning around to see the wolf anthro from before. He gave her a fanged grin "Oh hey. Micah" he paused "Didn't think you'd talk to me again. Most girls are put off by how awesome I am it's like they can't even handle it" He swished his tail mischievously. He shrugs "Well, wasn't expecting company but thanks for stopping by" he looks out to the mountains again.

"So have you heard? Apparently there's one human amongst them that actually likes us. Some of the other anthros actually want to become friendly with them" he scoffed, his sharp blue eyes fixed on her "So what do you think of the humans?"

(S'okay :P)

"If I'm remembering the incident correctly, you did all the talking. I was wondering when the kitty would get out of my way." Micah moved up, glancing over at him and shaking her head. "I wasn't expecting to be company, but I've been rather bored. So you're welcome." She grinned at him, but shook her head. "I've heard whispers of it. Didn't think it was true, though." Micah told him, and closed her eyes for a moment. "Become friendly, huh? Yeah, I don't see where that could go horribly wrong." She replied sarcastically, sneering.

"What do I think of them? Not much, really. I just... think they should be avoided. Nothing good can come from contact with humans." Micah leaned up against a tree, sighing. "I'd rather just stay out of it, you know?"

Wane nodded, and he could feel the resentment from their kind in her mind, "Tell me about it, if we have any contact with humans it should be us killing them" he clenched his hand into a fist. He shrugged "A friend of mine says that if we continue the way we are just going to have permanent bloodshed on our hands, and that even though peace is out of reach it's still an option" he shrugged "But I doubt they'd give a damn about us, I don't give a damn about them, so why bother?"

He pointed out to the two people, receding further and further into mountain land, "What are they doing out in middleground this late, I saw them a bit closer before, they don't look like guards."

"They're probably halfbreeds." a voice sounded behind wane. "They like to dwell there since they are too similar to Anthrokind to be accepted by humans, and too similar to mankind to be accepted by Anthros." Carson had done it again, using the silence of night to shroud his approach and scare the daylights out of Wane. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to see a squirrel about a dead grandmother who didn't say goodbye." And with that he turned off and walked to the village.
