  • It was just another day...
    ____________________

The bell rang, bringing the school day to a close, the students poured out from the building, making their way to their homes or various other destinations. One such student was Satoshi, Takeo, whom was avoided by several of his classmates as they left the school. Watching his peers move away, whispering to one another as they looked back at him with fearful sideways glances, he felt some combination of pride and sadness. Sure, he had something of s reputation as a ruffian, but so did many of the other boys in Yasuhiro Junior High.

In truth, he was just another guy who hated people who looked down on others and liked a good brawl. So, maybe he was a little lazy and he liked to skip a class here and there, that didn't make him a bad person, did it? Nonetheless, the occasional giggling girls or glaring boys wasn't anything unusual, and he thought nothing of the opinions of his peers. The only person he had a genuinely good relationship with was his sister, of whom he doted on and watched after.

The world seemed normal to him, no dark clouds or ominous signs, just sunshine and the bustling streets of Uesugi City. In fact, nothing about that day felt even remotely abnormal until he noticed that his sister had been late to meet him after school as she always did. Upon returning to the school, he discovered a horrific scene involving his sister and another student, sending him into a rage. After beating the student nearly to death he was caught off guard when his sister intervened, preventing him from dealing the final blow. Unfortunately, his assailant seized the opportunity, attacking him from behind and causing him to fall from the roof of the building. As the air rushed passed him, he felt as though he was ripping the ground up towards him, he felt unbelievably heavy. His life did not flash before him, only his sister's face before he slammed into the pavement several stories below.

Shortly after, he discovered that he still remained, looking down at his body now devoid of life. A woman appeared to him, offering him a second chance through her employer, the son of the Lord of the next world, Koenma. After completing the tests, he was granted his life again, under the condition that he become Spirit World's newest Spirit Detective. Reluctantly, Takeo accepted this responsibility, as well as the many risks and rewards of his new life.

Note: This section will be added to over time.

These are your character's basic statistics. Each affects various aspects of your character and how they influence and are influenced by the world. For example, a higher spirit awareness allows for a stronger connection to the supernatural, while enhancing your senses in ways like seeing people's spirit or demon energy.

At creation, players are allotted 21 points to distribute among the following seven stats. Over time, your character's Stats can be increased through training, and sometimes, through events or battles.

    Strength:
Determines the overall strength of your character. Higher strength means your physical attacks will deal more damage. Your strength score is added to every to damage roll from a physical attack.

    Perception:
Perception determines how perceptive and aware your character is. A higher perception will raise your character's awareness and reduces the risk of being caught off guard. Your perception score is added to every perception roll.

    Endurance:
Endurance determines how physically tough your character is, their overall Stamina, and how much punishment they can withstand. A high Endurance will not only reduce the amount of damage you take, but will grant access to skills that can turn the tide of a fight. Your Endurance score is deducted from every damage roll made against your character.

    Intelligence:
Intelligence determines how intelligent and learned your character is. A high Intelligence will allow your character to more easily learn skills and techniques. Additionally, at creation, your character gains one additional technique for every 2 points in this stat, and one additional skill for every 3 points in this stat. Your Intelligence score is added to every roll to learn a new skill or technique.

    Agility:
Agility determines how physically fast and agile your character is. A high Agility will allow your characters physical attacks to be more difficult to dodge or block, while simultaneously making you more difficult to hit. Your Agility score is added to every physical attack roll you make, and deducted from every attack roll made against you.

    Luck:
Luck determines how lucky your character is. Luck will potentially affect every roll you make, granting potential for spontaneous events, critical hits, auto-learning techniques, and maybe some other things...

The following three Stats are special, in of that they are always determined in percentages. Upon creation, I will roll for all three of these, and using your above Stats and rolls, will determine what they are at start. Over time, just like the above Stats, these can be increased.

    Spirit Energy:
Spirit Energy determines how much overall Spirit or Demon energy your character has. The more energy your character has, the more they have to fuel some techniques and skills. While those with particularly high Spirit Energy may have deep reserves, that may lack a natural strength behind it. A character who emphasizes quantity over quantity may find outlasting an opponent easier than otherwise, but may have a hard time dealing a fatal blow. Characters with a high Spirit Energy are more capable of using multiple techniques, or of using particularly powerful ones. However, bear in mind that an enemy who uses the same technique, but has a higher spirit power will be more powerful than yours, and do more damage.

Spirit Energy is recovered over time outside of battle, but does not recover during battle. Additionally, the lower your reserve of Spirit Energy gets, the lower your spiritual power becomes. Without the energy to support it, your attacks become weaker, and you become more exhausted.

    Spirit Power:
Spirit Power determines the overall strength and Potency of your Spirit or Demon energy. The more Spirit Power your character has, the more powerful your non-physical techniques will be. A character who prioritizes a higher spirit power over Spirit Energy won't be able to perform many techniques, but can hit harder with the ones they can use. Characters with a high Spirit Power are capable of performing devastating techniques. While not particularly suited for long engagements, these characters are capable of putting down targets with fewer hits, and have to worry less about their attacks becoming weaker over time.

Spirit Power is reduced as Spirit Energy is reduced. For every ten percent Spirit Energy you lose, you lose five percent of your Spirit Power as well. As your Spirit Energy recovers, your Spirit Power recovers as well.

    Spirit Awareness:
Spirit awareness determines how perceptive of the supernatural your character is. Characters with a high awareness are more likely to pick up on negative energies, find safer ways through dangerous terrain, form spiritual connections to other beings, even to the point that they can track them or communicate telepathically. While this stat does little for Combat, it's utility is always useful, and a high spiritual awareness is required for some skills.

Skills are various Abilities your character can have, most of which simply add Passive effects or provide benefits. Occasionally, these will function similar to techniques, such as a transformation to allow a demon to disguise themselves as humans. Skills can be taught, learned, earned, or created, and can even be unique. Unique skills will likely have high requirements. A list of available skills will be listed below, along with a simple template for creating your own skills.

    _______________
    Skill Template
    _______________
    Name:

Assumes a human form. Physical Stats are reduced in human form by 25%. Natural Weapons like claws and fangs are also null in this form.

    _______________

    Passive

    Prerequisites:
Spirit Awareness of 50% or greater.

    *More Soon

*Note: If you have requests or recommendations, feel free to give them. i politely request that before listing a custom skill, you run it by me first. I feel it may save a little time.

Techniques are the special attacks your characters will be able to learn or create. These range from special powers, to martial art techniques, incantations, to spiritual or demonic energy attacks. The majority of offensive powers will be considered techniques.

    Name:
If unique, put in brackets, like [so].

    Type:
    Physical or Energy

    Prerequisites
Requirements to obtain or perform a technique. They will often be specific or general stat values.

    Cost:
For techniques that require Spirit Energy. If physical, put N/a.

    Effects:
Here is where you will give the mechanical effects of the techniques, such as the damage dice and critical effects. If you need an example, see below.

*Example: Instead of just using a skill that grants the ability to manipulate flames to attack someone, make a technique that forms it into a ball or an aura that envelopes the user.

The flame sphere does a die 6 of damage on a successful hit, and has a chance to catch them on fire. As a critical effect, the victim will take a die 4 of damage each turn until the fire is extinguished.

More will be added in general if I can get some interest. Please let me know what you think, and we'll work on some of the initial plotline. For the moment, we're working on the first couple cases, but getting to know the characters will be done during both cases and the downtime between.

Name:
Jisu Kiyoma
Age:
17
Gender:
Male

Human
Personality Profile:
Jisu is a brash in your face kind of guy preferring to tackle his problems head on rather than dancing around them. Has a rather confident air about him especially as he holds the title of, "Street King," which has earned him quite the rep Uesugi city. He does have a soft spot for people that can't/shouldn't be fighting which serves as a bit of a weakness for him, but his biggest soft spot has to be for stray animals he sees on the streets. Loyalty, Honor, and Humbleness are the traits he prizes the most in a person so he makes sure that he fits his own requirements to a T.

Personal History:
From a young age Jisu has always had a fighters spirit burning within him as he looked up to his father who was an accomplished boxer, and dreamed of holding even a candle to his fighting prowess. Sadly this dream was cut short as during a match his father went up against a powerful opponent that went to far after he was knocked down, beating him to death even after he had fallen. The death of his father weighed heavily upon not only Jisu, but his mother as well who committed suicide by drinking herself under when Jisu was only 14. After that he did anything to take his mind off the past as he began to just start random fights with some of the thugs in his neighborhood. After 3 years of living on his own Jisu has managed to calm his rage and become a more mellow person, but many people still do fear him as they think he's the same person he was back then.
