The world was taken by storm when game designer Maximillian Pegasus created Duel Monsters. Though his inspiration for this game was strongly tied to ancient games of great and terrible power, this card game he created was, at first, simply a popular pastime. Then, it developed into a worldwide phenomenon in which thousands, perhaps millions of individuals competed for prizes and bragging rites. No prize as grand as the title "King of Games." In the years since it's release, the game has undergone significant changes, and very soon, the latest will be introduced. Seto Kaiba, CEO of Kaibacorp and beloved champion of Duel Monsters has again brought about a new means of changing the game to expand upon its already great influence, with the announcement of an upcoming series of tournaments known as the Team Trial Circuit. These competitions would be held locally, then expand across the country, then finally globally, giving a whole new group of duelists a chance to shine and make their mark on the world of Duel Monsters.

Meanwhile, behind the grandiose nature of Seto Kaiba's ambitions, lies nefarious purpose. His dealings with the strange mystical nature of Yugi Moto's Millennium Puzzle as well as the bizarre encounter with the monstrous dark half of Marik Ishtar, has given him a new obsession; trying to uncover and understand the realities of the shadow games and their implications on the past, present, and future. During the course of this circuit, new rumblings of strange dark magics and peculiar happenings will present themselves, and in time, the world will be threatened by the shadow games again.

Rules:

1.
Be kind.

2. This RP is meant to be a fun and collaborative effort, communication is key.

3. Decks will need to be approved before any game is played, as we must do our best to maintain balance.

4. This RP actively avoids most meta in regards to the card game. No top tier stuff is allowed from start to finish.

5. Players will begin with fairly low tier decks, and they will be able to develop their decks as they go.

6. PVP will not occur commonly, be respectful when it does, and bear in mind that outside of it being discussed, NO duels are scripted.

7. We will be using a somewhat unique set of rules in terms of deck building. Particularly, a "Boss Monster" rule, in which your most powerful monsters will usually only be ran at 1, 2 tops for balancing purposes.

8. Teams will be comprised of 3 duelists, with our current layout being 2 player teams of 3 players. You may decide how to pair up, or I can randomize it, if you'd like.

9. We will be playing out the duels on YGOPRO 2: Dawn of a New Era. We will save the replays and use them to write out the duels in classic yugioh fashion with the option for other characters to weigh in and such.

More can and likely will be added over time. Thank you for reading!

•William "Wiley" Barrow•

Age: 17

Background:

The eldest son of tailors, Wiley Barrow is a kind young man of few words. An honors student and obssessive bookworm, Wiley holds aspirations of becoming an inventor that changes the world for the better. As such, most of his time is spent studying books on human anatomy and robotics, occasionally building his own robots with varying levels of success. Despite this all-consuming passion, Wiley maintains a moderate love for Duel Monsters, a game he and his father would often play in his childhood. He doesn't watch matches or keep up with the latest decks like others might, but his cards are always maintained in pristine condition and handled with the utmost care.

As he prepares for college and a busy future, Wiley's father urges the boy to go out and enjoy his youth before he becomes to busy to enjoy it. In an attempt to please his father and meet his request, Wiley registers for the Team Trial Circuit. He doesn’t actually care too much, but he imagines he won't have time for dueling once he leaves for college. Thus, the competition serves as a last hurrah before he ultimately shelves the game and fully devotes himself to his future.

Name: Alva Crowe
Age: 16
Appearance:
db654727df80223d9ceb0779a372dbb0.jpg
Background:
Life hasn't been easy for Alva, but he has gotten by thus far. At a young age, his parents discovered that he was a child with some... unique needs. He was diagnosed with a unique form of photosensitivity, accompanying monochromacy (total color blindness, though his is near total, not complete). Due to his "allergy" to sunlight, among other things, he has spent most of his life indoors at home. Thankfully, he was introduced to Duel Monsters, a game that he could still play and have fun with, even if he was forced to do so inside. He would occasionally convince his parents to let him go out to participate in various tournaments (typically in indoors venues) to some degree of success, though, unfortunately never topping in any with substantial prizes. Still, the goal was to get out and have fun, and the prizes were always secondary...

Until he learned of the "Team Trial Circuit" tournament. For a tournament like this, it was only natural that the winner would receive a huge prize... perhaps one even large enough to assist with or cure his condition. Of course, it was a long shot, and it wasn't as if he were betting everything on this shot at success. After all, he had some means of lessening his symptoms (medicine, proper cover and special shades for instance) but the possibility of living more like other people did was a tantalizing prospect indeed. So, to prove himself and take his shot at making a better life for himself, he sought entry into the Team Trial Circuit.

(honking huge sword sold separately)

Background:
Charlie is the descendent of a rather prestigious family, though one whose roots were not tied to duel monsters until lately. The Schwartz family used to be lords of a country that has since been lost to the annals of history, though the family is no less rich or notorious than when it was once in power, having wise investments in various corporations around the globe, Kaiba Corp and Industrial Illusions to name a few. The name was also tied to a significant amount of archaeological findings, until the man who discovered them, Nathaniel Schwartz, Charlie's grandfather, died under mysterious circumstances in an archeological expedition in Egypt. Ever since, the Schwartz family has become more and more invested in the game of Duel Monsters, even going so far as to train their heirs from a young age in the ways of a game in equal measure to their lessons as potential nobles.

Charlie is one of the few members of the Schwartz family who has been inducted into a secret society that the Schwartzes have been instrumental in forming ever since the events surrounding the shadow games that took place years ago. The "Knights of Shadow", a group specifically trained to combat, and given secret knowledge surrounding the origins of Duel Monsters, and the Shadow Games that took place in the past. They investigate possible leads to Shadow Games and other, less mystical, yet still illicit dueling rings, and work in secret to put a stop to them. While this isn't the first case that Charlie has worked on, Charlie's real reason for joining the "Team Trial Circuit", is to investigate suspicious rumors tied to the possible resurgence of the Shadow Games. Though, since this mission is secret, the cover is that Charlie has joined to bring honor to the Schwartz name, and become the next King of Games.

Personal Deck: "Warriors of Justice"

Favored Attribute: Fire
Favorite Duelist:
Yami Yugi
Other:

Name: Morgana Fischer

Age: 18

Background: She was raised in an average home, but has high ambitions to become famous for its own sake. Morgana sees the potential for becoming a professional duelist who can compete on the pro tour to make competitive gaming her career for as long as possible. She also takes interest in other competitive games, wanting to become as great as possible in every board game, card game, and computer game she can.

Her personality is generally cold and distant, though her respect can be won over time. She doesn't make friends easily, and had very few during her schools years, enforcing her distant personality as a shielding mechanism. Who needs friends when there is the thrill of winning?

Personal Deck: Suit Up for Combat! (Super Roboyaru/Super Robolady earth machine fusion deck)

  • Name: Jack Charles Cross
    Age: 19 years

    Appearance:
Jack is a relatively small guy with somewhat pale skin, light brown eyes and messy, black hair. He usually wears loose hoodies and jackets, sometimes leather jackes, normally with a red and black colour scheme. Though he usually doesn't wear them, he normally needs glasses but instead wears contacts. Both his ears have each three piercings and his tongue and lip are pierced as well. He typically has his nails painted and though he prefers black, sometimes when he's feeling cute he paints them pink.

    Background:
Jack was separated from his family at an early age. Though he never bothered asking why or how he came into the foster system, he had a rough idea that it was because his parents chose to gave him away, he presumes he was most likely a reckless teenage accident. Many attempts were made to place him into families across the country. But no matter where he was, Jack would always cause trouble, always antagonise the new family he was given and before long, he was taken away from that family again. Jack spent most his time being a vandal and rowdy and he would have actively avoided school as well, were it not for the fact that school was the place he got to watch others duel, which he was fascinated by. When he became bored with just watching people, he picked out a card shop as far away from where he lived as possible, waited for an opening when a duelist was distracted and pickpocketed their deck.

By the time he turned 18 years old he chose to leave foster care. Though he quickly found himself homeless and without a job. When he found a bunch of stray puppies in an alley and brought them to an animal shelter, he found himself falling in love with the animals there and would return regularly. The people working there eventually worked out that he was homless and helped him get his life back in order. Now he actively works as a barista in a small café and helps out at the animal shelter whenever he can.

Jack chose to try entering the Team Trial Circuit after prolonged pushing by his colleagues at the shelter, pushing him to try it out. He is there under the guise that he's just in it for the prize, though he really only wants to see how good he is as a duelist and, maybe, meet a few people he could become friends with outside of his work.
