Hello all, and welcome to the first RP I'll be trying to run here on Iwaku. I've been a fan of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game and anime series for a few years now and have been interested in beginning a roleplay that mixes in older and newer aspects of the series to try and provide a nostalgic atmosphere. Anyway, let's move on to the plot and other things pertaining to this RP!

1. Since duels will be roleplayed out between two people, make sure to have reasonable draws. If you must, number your cards and use a Random Number Generator. Fairness is key for these collaborations.

2. No godmodding. Aside from taking control of other characters without permission or doing significant actions against them without giving the other a chance to react, this will also apply to monster attacks and card effect activations. Make sure the other person doesn't have something to pull before saying something went through.

3. No "metagame" styled decks. Basically, you can't have an overly exploitable deck that can shutdown the other guy in like... one turn. Such decks are actually very common in IRL Yugioh today, and frankly, they're annoying as hell and steal the fun of dueling.

4. Be reasonable when making custom cards.

5. At least a paragraph or more, no one liners. I cannot tell you how much short posts without substance can slow something down and provide for a boring RP.

6. No Mary/Gary Stues.

7. Please be a constant poster, because not posting regularly can really slow these type of RPs down.

8. Have fun! Yes... you are forced to have fun. If you are not having fun, I will find you, and I will kill you.

RP DETAILS

Duel Monsters is a huge sensation nowadays, as it has been when it was first created by the man known as Maximillian Pegasus. Aside from just being an addictive card game people of all ages can play to pass the time, it is also a highly competitive game that can be used to express caliber, style, skill, strength, and cleverness. As such, Duel Monsters is many a time used to settle very serious matters such as entrepreneurial conflicts (seen frequently with the Kaiba Corporation in the past) and personal feuds with other groups or individuals.
What people have forgotten about Duel Monsters though, is its true and dark origins: The Shadow Games. Beginning in Ancient Egypt, the Shadow Games' "duelists" summoned real, living beings from different Monster Realms and used literal magic to duel others who could do the same. These duels were all but for fun, and were very real struggles for survival lest you be defeated and your fate be decided by the will of the winner.
A strange and obscure cult has rediscovered the true roots of Duel Monsters and has somehow found a way to begin tapping back into the Ancient Magic to warp duels into Shadow Games. Reports of "freak dueling accidents" are beginning to grow around Aria City, as well as the rarer reports of entities reappearing at the sites where supposed Cultists have dueled with others. Rarer still are the events of monsters breaking free from these odd duels and wreaking havoc in the nearby area. Regardless of anything though, it is clear that this "Cult of Shadows" has something very strange and powerful about it, and whatever influence they are projecting is beginning to grow and spread across the city...

The roleplay will take place within Aria City. It is a large city with different sectors: Suburban, Industrial, etc. Given this, there is always something to do, and will allow a bit of freedom for characters to initiate random events that could pertain to their own storylines and stuff. Since this RP involves an antagonistic team, characters can be created to be already part of the cult, or can join them during the RP if the creator wants them too.

Duels will be roleplayed/written out between the people involved, making the whole matter a collaborative thing. As such, participants will be expected to duel fairly and discuss important duels with the other to see what would be best. Duels can be carried out over PM or the website known as "titanpad.com". You do not need to post the entire duel in one go, but can post bits and pieces. this is preferred anyway, as it gives others a chance to react if they are watching. On the matter of decks, they cannot be "metagame" level that can sweep the floor with anything. I will be reviewing decks to make sure that they are not too powerful or exploitable as well.

Name: Benjamin Castellar

Age: 18

Biography: Benjamin is an aspiring law enforcement officer, mainly due to his disgust towards and desire to begin quelling the crime that has seen a rise within Aria City within the past few years. He often teams up with the Aria City Law Department as a freelance partner when he can and has already helped in numerous investigations and jobs requiring the subjugation of gangs and their leaders. Despite all his work however, it's apparent to him that he and the Department are basically fighting a "hydra", as there just always seems to be some new group trying to defy the authority he and the Department instill.

With the rise of the Cult of Shadows, some of Aria City's impoverished areas have been whipped up into a frenzy of fear and chaos due to the growth of Shadow Dueling (which has basically allowed many gangs to either assert their control further or begin clawing their way to more prominent positions). Seeing that such chaos would only begin to spread the longer this Cult was allowed to persist, Benjamin offered to work on the case on his own while the Department concentrated its prime forces on keeping the frenzied areas in check. He quickly learned that the Cult of Shadows was no ordinary gang using good scare tactics for influence, but was in fact connected to some sort of strange power they called upon whenever they dueled. Benjamin has had a few close calls with the Cult since he began working on their case, but fortunately has been able to surpass their members.

Benjamin has acquired a rather sour reputation with the Cult, but lately he's begun to notice a change in their attitude towards him. Rather than duel him with a desire to just get him out of their way, he sees that now Cultists, especially those of higher rank, duel him in a way that will purposefully test his potential and willpower.

Personality: To go along with his desire to become an officer, Benjamin has a deep seated desire to maintain order in any place where there may be chaos in order to protect the stability of society and peoples' lives. He's a bit of a loner, and while he can certainly have the brooding attitude for this, Benjamin doesn't really mind being around others.

Deck Theme + List: Iswarm Infestation; Though he originally dueled with a dragon deck, Benjamin began using his current deck when he began to think he had a strange "connection" with the Iswarm cards. Calling them his "heart's deck", the Iswarm deck has become very prominent in his dueling career and seems to embody Benjamin's rising concept of "new order through destruction of the old".

1. Abyss of Infestation

Card Type: Field Spell Card

Card Effect: Iswarm monsters you control gain 600 attack. A monster with the name "Evilswarm" is also treated as a "Steelswarm" monster when on the field or in the graveyard, and you pay only half the cost of lifepoints to activate a "Steelswarm" effect. Each time an Iswarm monster you control inflicts battle damage to your opponent, send the top card of their deck to the graveyard.

2. Scout's Infiltration

Card Type: Equip Spell Card

Card Effect: Equip to one "Steelswarm Scout" you control and give control of it to your opponent. It cannot be used as a tribute or for a synchro summon. Once per turn before your opponent's draw phase, you can reveal the top card of their deck. If it was a monster, send it to the graveyard and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the sent monster's level x200.

3. Infestation Revival

Card Type: Continuous Spell Card

Card Effect: You can only activate this card and its effect when there is a "Steelswarm Scout" in your graveyard. Once per turn, instead of conducting your normal draw phase you can select one Iswarm or Infestation card in your graveyard or removed from play and add it to your hand. Cards returned to the hand by this effect cannot be played this turn.

4. Infestation Immunity

Card Type: Counter Trap Card

Card Effect: Activate this card when an Iswarm monster is targeted by a monster effect. Destroy the monster targeting it, and for the remainder of this turn, face-up Iswarm monsters are unaffected by monster effects.

5. Steelswarm Remnants

Card Type: Trap Card

Card Effect: Tribute one Steelswarm monster on your side of the field and special summon two "Steelswarm Remnants" tokens (Dark Attribute- Fiend, Level 4, Atk:0/Def:1900). these tokens cannot be used for a tribute summon, except for the tribute summon of an Steelswarm monster.

6. Infestation Revenge

Card Type: Counter Trap Card

Card Effect: Activate this card when an Iswarm monster you control is destroyed by battle or card effect. Place the Iswarm in your opponent's spell/trap card zone instead of sending it to the graveyard. Your opponent must discard one card or take damage equal to the Iswarm's level x300. Remove the card from your opponent's spell/trap card zone after the fourth turn since it was placed there.

7. Goliath, the First Steelswarm

Card Type: Effect Monster

Level: 10

Atk: 4000/Def: 0

Effect: You can only normal summon this card by tributing three "Steelswarm" monsters you control. Your opponent cannot activate card effects the turn this card is summoned. You can banish one monster or one spell/trap card from your hand or graveyard to activate the according effect:
-Monster: Destroy all monsters your opponent controls. Damage this card inflicts to your opponent is halved until the end of this turn.
-Spell/Trap: Destroy all spell and trap cards on the field.
When this card is sent to the graveyard, you can add one "Steelswarm Hercules" from your deck or graveyard and normal summon it on your next turn, ignoring the summoning conditions. It cannot attack or activate its effect the turn it is summoned by this effect.

Name: Madora Hadria

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance: https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2065/2209946926_e83e9866f8.jpg

Biography: Madora has never known who her parents were, and never cared to ask. The only thing she knows about her parents is that her first 'Monarch' cards- which she's had since she was a child- came from them. For as far as she can remember, she has been raised by the leader of the Cult of Shadows- Caleb. Despite what you may expect, he was a great father figure, and gave lots of time and care to Madora.

Caleb allowed Madora to be part of the Cult of Shadows community, which was very accepting of their leader's child. Because Madora has grown up as part of the cult she knows almost everything about the cult, and she's completely dedicated to it. Madora plays an important role within the cult, not only because she's the leader's 'daughter', but also because she's an excellent duelist. She learnt a lot of dueling skills from senior members of the cult.

Personality: Madora is a confident girl with a strong belief in her abilities. She is stubborn, and won't back down in an argument. To add to that, she's not very good at assessing her flaws.

However, she is usually thoughtful, and thinks things through before taking action. Madora will rarely act recklessly, normally keeping a calm head. Push the right buttons though, and she'll enter a blind rage.

Madora is a loyal and dedicated individual. It's impossible to make her change her allegiance, and she's willing to do anything for her allies. In fact she'll proactively find something to do to help the Cult of Shadows. But her weakness is that she takes insults to the Cult of Shadows or her allies to heart, and she won't concentrate on anything else until she has revenge on the insulter.

Name: Terrell Claret

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Connor_Vakama.png

Background Info: Terrell started life in a mediocre family, in a mediocre house, in a mediocre neighborhood. He got decent grades at school, played video games at home, and had a few average friends. Everything about his life was normal, and more importantly to him, boring. Terrell hated how typical every aspect of his life was, and he desired to break free from the mold, knowing he was destined for something greater than this. And his opportunity came when he was 14 years old.

One ordinary summer's day a member from the Cult of Shadows came crawling to Terrell's town. I say crawling because he'd been seriously injured, and was trying to seek some medical attention. Terrell just happened to be on the outskirts of town that day, and by luck he found the CoS member before anybody else. Terrell gave the CoS member some basic first aid, and assisted him in going to the local 'hospital' (although it wasn't much of one). Along the way the pair of them got talking, about duel monsters in particular. Terrell had never heard of duel monsters in his small town before, and certainly not the Cult of Shadows. As the CoS member told Terrell more about it, Terrell became captivated by the idea of being a duelist in the Cult of Shadows.

After a week, the CoS member had healed enough to leave town and head to Aria city. But before he left, the CoS member gave a small gift to Terrell for helping him, and keeping him amused over the week. The gift was a spare different dimension deck the CoS member had been carrying, and a Cult of Shadows business card in case Terrell ever wanted to join. A couple of days later Terrell headed of to Aria city, ready for an adventure.

The rest is pretty much history. Terrell arrived at Aria city and joined the Cult of Shadows. He reunited with the CoS member, and they now often go on missions together. Over the years Terrell has become a pretty good duelist, and he's developed the original D.D. deck he was given as a gift. Terrell vaguely knows Madora, and they've spoken once or twice, but that's about it.

Personality: Terrell is a rebellious individual, who hates having to conform. If you tell him to do X, he'll probably do Y. This is problematic in the Cult of Shadows, since he finds it hard obeying orders. However, he has great respect for Caleb (the CoS leader) and the CoS member from before, so they can often keep him in place. However, to be on the safe side he usually only works on missions individually or in small teams. This is also helpful considering he doesn't like talking to other people too much.

Terrell is ruthless when dealing with other people. He will not show any unnecessary kindness, nor will he let go of anything you've done to offend him. While this makes him unpopular, it's actually quite helpful for getting things done without any faffing. It also means he doesn't forget any mistake somebody's made, which gives him an advantage when assessing other people's personalities.

He enjoys living life on the edge, and staring peril in the face. Terrell is a thrill seeker, and thus is extremely spontaneous. He's unpredictable, and always finding something to actively do. This can be seen in Terrell's dueling style- he's willing to take risks, and he likes to get his monsters out quickly. However, he does try to restrain his impulsive nature when dueling- this is not always a success though.

Background Info: A fortuneteller by nature, Placido worked hard to support himself, in the new era of science, few people stood by to have their fortunes told anymore. However, his life changed when an enigmatic figure, calling himself "Two" challenged him in a duel. "Two" beat Placido easily, and then took his deck. After sifting through it, he shook his head. Wordlessly, he gave the deck bak to Placido, who realized that it was completely different from his previous deck, though he didn't know how it happened. Placido had an accident when he was 17, losing him his right eye. However, the stranger also gave him a new, mechanical eye, one that allowed him to more easily read the fortunes of those who let theirs be told.

Age: 16

Appearance:

He is often overly obsessive, and aggravates his sister at times. After gambling at a constant rate, his deck started to reflect that. He replaced his old deck with his new one, and counted on "The Heart of the Cards" to win him games. He tries to look forward in life and remain optimistic. Getting called "abandoned" is a flinching point for him, and his sister.

Name: Cain Alabast
Gender: Male
Age: 18

Appearance:
m94gHqd.png

Background Info:
Cain is actually a far descendent of an Egyptian family of what you might call 'guardians'; people devoted to controlling anomalies and power imbalances in the Shadow Games. While the blood itself is not apparent, the legacy is there, and kept rather secretive, almost like a sort of Special Forces in the dueling world. It is nowhere near as active nowadays, though, if mainly for the fact that Cain's father, Marcus, has inexplicably disappeared.

Already well into his teenage years when he heard the vaguely-recent news, Cain met the prospect with mixed reactions. Apparently, there was no such plausible explanation as to why Marcus was wiped away, given that his most recent operation, a preemptive attack against the so-called Cult of Shadows, was successful. Regardless, Cain was left with his father's personal deck of Dragons.

Now, Cain is left at an impasse. Does he want to exact some sort of revenge on the cult, when there's no proof they killed him? Should he go and find his father, a near-impossible feat in these circumstances? Or maybe, he might try and discover the meaning behind his father's deck, the only thing left of that man? Whatever happens, it seems that the Cult of Shadows will not take kindly to Cain's existence.

Personality:
Cain is a rather well-tempered individual, able to express his emotions appropriately. He carries a bit of bias against Duel Monsters given the facts behind its origin, and regards it as a potentially very dangerous game, as if the clever holograms and special effects could become real at any time. Of course, with the Cult of Shadows, that is all true.

All Cain knows of the Cult of Shadows is their existence, their actions, and the fact that Marcus apparently managed to steal an important card from them before he disappeared. Cain himself is a rather wishy-washy dueler, having not actually practiced much, so he feels that if he does end up needing to duel, then he'll have to depend on the last cards his father had and their untapped power. And power... isn't exactly something he wants his fate to be decided by.

For in the class-room they did not appreciate Apostolos' methods on wanting to learn through the Socratic Method. This caused Apostolos to be thrust into the den of detention with delinquents many times, it was here where Apostolos learned of the game of Duel Monsters. Ever since he first played, he has believed that he can gain philosophical insight through playing the game, and has ever since tried to play as often as he can. And with this Cult of the Shadows, he can learn more about philosophy, from himself, and from the Cult...

Just realized this was in the wrong section... it's supposed to be under Sign-Ups and Plot Discussion....

Just decide to add an original card, and I want to do a seperate post for it so I can get approval for it before I add it to my CS.

Card Name- Monarch Reborn
Card Type- Spell
Card Effect- Target a monster in your graveyard with 'Monarch' in its name. Tribute summon that monster (the number of tributes required is the normal amount for the monster's level).

Madora's CS looks good so far, as does the card! From this view, both are accepted! I'll PM you about a few things later today too.

Awesome, thanks muchly.

I'm in super anticipation for this rp, I can't wait for it to begin! I hope some more people join soon.

I apologize if I seem conceited, but I believe the wording for the custom card is Tribute summon. Sorry, it just confused me for a second.

Sorry, I'm not very good at yu-gi-oh card wording, it always muddles me up. Thanks for pointing it out, I've edited it now. Please tell me if you spot anything else. :)

quick question before i make my CS would it be ok if i used my DEVpro deck. its a shadoll deck, the cards are in japanese right now and havent been made into English yet but i was wondering if that would be ok to use.

Ooooh... them Shadolls man... I've played against them before on Dueling Network and I've found the archetype to be HIGHLY exploitable seeing as how Shadoll effects activate when they're sent to the graveyard from anywhere (deck, hand, field) and in any way, shape, and form (card effect, battle)...

I'm sorry, but I think I'm going to have to say no to this archetype for now.

that is fine.

Cards from all the Yugioh generation can be used. Noble Knights are okay.

ok ill run with noble knights since they also have a dark attribute to them it can cause some fun, and plot twists with in the rp

Background Info:H was brought up and raised as an only child, he only had his father who was a professional duelist. At the age of 14 his father was taken away from him because of the cult of shadows. Every since Damien has honed his skills as a duelist to fight them. He had to take a knights oath of honor before the noble knights would ever allow him to wield there true brothers. Now with his Guardian card Medraut at his side he knows theirs nothing that can stop him from taking down the Dark cult that has taken his father.

Deck Theme: Noble knights

This seems ok so far, so its a go! I will be examining the deck still though and will notify you if I think something may be a bit too much for the RP.

thats fine doing roleplays like pokemon, and yu-gi-oh are pretty hard rp's to do because you have to keep everything fair
