"Yanaike," said Eanik, the pirate's captain. "Get up." He held out a hand to help Yanaike up.

The pirate's boiled up to his head. His face red with anger. "What?!"

"There will be other girls on other raids," said Eanik to Joko, the pirate.

Joko glared at the captain then at Yanaike. His pair of sharp eyes stayed on her for a moment. He grunts and turned, marching off back to the pirate airship. Yanaike has made an enemy.

Eanik watch Joko walked away. When the pirate was out of sight, Eanik shook his head, feeling relieved. Controlling his underlings is not an easy task. He turned his attention to Yanaike.

"Come, my daughter." He guided Yanaike to the pirate airship. "Let's talk in my quarters."

Yanaike shook her head, loosed herself from the captain's soft grip and moved back a couple of steps.
"No" she said, pretty sure of herself. "You can't be you, you've died!" Yanaike didn't understand this situation. How could there be a man so far away from home without any connection to her, claim to her that he was her father and how did he know her name?

Eanik could feel the hot stares from his crew. Their attention caught by the loud voice coming from Yanaike.

Eanik leaned close to Yanaike's ear. "Little girl, as I said," he whispered to Yanaike. "Let us talk in my quarters. There are lots of eyes and ears here."

"Okay fine!" Yanaike said finally, still a bit hesitatingly. She felt how the crew members were staring at them and it made her a bit uncomfortable.
Before following the captain, Yanaike took a quick glance at the cargo ship crew members, sitting on their knees with their heads looking down. Yanaike didn't really know what was going to happen to them, but she was relieved she was not sitting next to them. This captain had probably saved her life for now, it was kind of fair to at least listen to what he had to say. She followed the captain to its quarters and waited for him to talk.

Their eyes continued to watch and stare as Yanaike followed the captain into his chambers. Whispers could be heard from the pirate crew, gossiping about the surprise they heard. Is that really his daughter? I never knew he had one. Why does she have a tail? Is her mother a monkey? Did the captain fuck a monkey? Oh, I'd tap that in an instant. I heard she killed one of us and one of the cargo men.

The captain heard most of his men's talking behind his back, but decided that he would tend to them later. For now, Yanaike is more important. Eanik lead Yanaike down to his chambers and opened the door, gesturing at her to enter. He did not know whether Yanaike would find a chance to run and escape or whether she would stay and listen to him.

The walls of the captain quarters are made of glass, held sturdy by steel railings and enchantments. Beside the railings was a small table with two comfortable looking seats. The divider of the captain's quarter was made of mahogany, installed with interior shelves, filled with books, devices, and knickknacks. There was a writing desk with a chair stationed closed to one of the walls. Next to it was another shelf, also filled with books and knickknacks.

Eanik waited for Yanaike to enter and take a seat. He would speak only after she was feeling safe and relaxed.

The room which they entered was small but convenient. Yanaike was impressed by the amount of books the captain kept in his cabin. It was nothing compared to what she'd seen in some libraries, but it was still quite a nice collection, especially for a pirate ship!
It made Yanaike curious. What kind of stories could be hidden inside those books? The next moment she found herself recklessly climbing upon the desk, almost pushing down the little desk lamp, as she reached with her hand for one of the books on the middle shelf. One with a blue cover.

The blue book was a guide on airship navigating. In it are knowledge on how navigate with devices such as compasses as well as navigating using the stars and sun as guides. There are knowledge on the winds and the maps of the continents of the world.

Seeing Yanaike was already relaxed and shamelessly rummaging through his books, Eanik decided that it was okay for him to start a conversation. With his hands on his back, standing next to the glass walls and eyes looking out, he spoke.

"Its been a long time since I last saw you," he said. "You've grown."

She grabbed the book and quickly scanned its content. It seemed to be full of pictures with navigation devices, with small descriptions how various buttons worked. There were lots of pages without any pictures, with large laps of text on the subject of navigation. Yanaike read some parts of it carefully. Maybe she had to navigate an air ship one day and in that case she would come prepared. She was too much immersed in the book, that she completely ignored the captain.

Eanik waited for her reply, but none came. He wondered how easily Yanaike was distracted by other matters and forgetting something that he thought shocked her to the core. Perhaps she didn't care enough whether her father was dead or alive. Perhaps it didn't matter. With a sigh, the man sat down on the chair next to the glass walls, looking out to the view outside, resting himself. The clouds was no longer grey. The sky was blue with the sun shining bright and hot. It was afternoon. Down below, it was the sea, reflecting light and reflection like a mirror.

There was a knock on the door.

"Yes, what is it," said Eanik.

A person slowly entered. He spoke. "Captain, what shall we do to the prisoners?"

Another sigh escaped Eanik. "Just lock them up for now. They'll walk the plank later if found useless to our cause."

Yanaike noticed the other pirate walking in, however she didn't pay any attention to him, nor to the things he said. Instead she was too much focused on her book. With her hand she grabbed in one of the desks drawers and grabbed a pot of ink, a bunch of papers and a feather. She opened the bottle of ink, dipped the feather inside of it and pressed the point of the feather against the yellow-ish paper. She quickly started her calculations based on the pages explaining about the stars and the sun. On the paper all kinds of mathematical signs started appearing: a square root, x's and y's, greek symbols, fractures. For a stranger the math might seem a bit random, only Yanaike knew what she was doing.

"Yes, captain," replied the person. "Will there be anything else?"

"Set course for Lantern City. We'll stock up on our supplies there."

"Yes, captain."

"That'll be all."

With a slight bow, the person exited and closed the door.

Eanik turned to look at Yanaike. He noticed her writing on his papers, using his ink and his feathers. But he didn't mind. Everything in the quarters is all for her to use at will.

He watched Yanaike, searching for her difference and changes since he last saw her. It was years ago. He realized he didn't remember her personality much. Perhaps her personality haven't develop when he was still with her. He did notice her difference in size and height. She still has the unique strait of hers; the long flexible furry brown tail. No one else that he knows of has that kind of tail.

He wanted to ask her whether she could still use that unique magic of hers, but he didn't. He assumed that she would just ignore him like she did earlier.

And so, he continued to watch her in silence. Waiting for her to engage a conversation or questions.

For some reason the captain kept silent, which might have bothered Yanaike a little bit, if she hadn't been so focused on her calculations. Yanaike kept writing and writing, she felt she came closer and closer to the solution of her problem, until… she ran out of paper. She took a quick glance at the captain, and then without really thinking about it, she continued writing down her math equations on the wooden desk.
Some of her spells always had seemed to be a lot stronger on certain days. Maybe with the knowledge in this book about positions of the stars and the sun and with her equations, she would finally be able to find a pattern! Or… the result would be the date of an upcoming eclipse. A little smile appeared on her face. She could never tell beforehand what kind of solution her calculations would provide her.

None. No words from her to him. With a sigh, he got up, and exited the quarters through the door. He needed to be a captain and manage his crews and the prisoners.

Yanaike was alone.

The captain sighed for a moment and he was gone. Yanaike finally stopped her calculations. Now what? This captain took her inside his room by telling he was her father, and then at the moment Yanaike would expect some sort of explanation, he just kept silent and finally even walked away. He was a weird man, that was for sure!
He didn't even bother when he saw Yanaike writing on its desk! Yanaike shook her head. Whatever. She continued her calculations, now continuing writing on the wall of the ship.

A loud blast was heard coming from outside of the quarters followed by shaking. The items of the shelves did not fell for it was enchanted with a gravity spell. Through the window, an white blue camouflage airship could be seen. One would recognize the airship as an army airship. It was flying fast around the pirate airship, shooting cannon balls and throwing flames. Barrages of cannon balls hit the pirate airship. A couple was halted by the barriers of the airship walls. Finally, the barrier was shattered. The cannon balls passed through. Some crashed into the pirate captain's quarters, destroying the tables and shelves, including some of the knickknacks. Yanaike's writing and calculations was no more.

At first Yanaike was shocked by the cannonball crushing into the captain's quarters. Everything Yanaike had written on the wall was gone, only the equations she'd written on paper remained.
It looked like Yanaike was gonna cry, however she quickly regained herself. It was just a written, more physical form of her thoughts and knowledge. The knowledge she used to solve the equations, the real knowledge was still in her mind. She could always try to reproduce the calculations.
Yanaike jumped off the partly shattered desk and realized she was lucky the cannon ball hadn't hit her. Out of curiosity, Yanaike went to the window and looked outside. There was a second airship. Yanaike figured from the colours that it would be an army airship.
Surprisingly Yanaike felt a little bit relieved. She hadn't spend more than a maximum of two hours with the pirates but she felt slightly annoyed already. The pirates seemed dumb, not interested in anything but material possessions and they never did a great job in welcoming Yanaike on their ship.
Yanaike found it was kin of the pirates' own fault that they were being attacked. She decided she wasn't going to help the pirates and would just wait to see what was going to happen. And what better way would there be to spend the time than by reading another book. She took one of the books, that now lay on the ground, after the shelve being destroyed by one of the cannonballs and without making calculations this time she studied the contents of the book carefully.

While Yanaike was in the pirate captain quarters. Other situations was happening outside. They were ambushed by an advance airship of the army. It seemed that the cargo airship was bait to reel the pirates out.

The cargo airship and the pirate airship was attached together at the moment. They couldn't move fast together. If they were apart, the pirate airship has a chance to flee and escape, but they would lose lots of precious newly captured cargo.

The sorcerer was already in his position above the blimp, casting spells to avert as many cannon balls and flames that he could. He had no time to cast dark clouds for cover as he did before.

"What do we do, captain?" asked his crew.

"Release the cargo airship!" Eanik ordered. "If we survive today, we can raid another day. But if we die, then that is it! Keep the prisoners in their cells. With them here, they army will think twice before shooting us down."

In Eanik's thoughts was Yanaike. She hoped that his daughter was safe. He missed the opportunity to explain to her about how he was not dead. But for now, many more lives were depending on his orders. They were rowdy pirates, but they were his. A couple of deaths was inevitable, but it would be his own fault if his crew died on his orders.

Minutes later, the cargo airship was detached from the hooks. It floated away aimlessly. The pirate airship speed increased gradually, leaving the cargo airship behind.

Yanaike looked up from her book when hear ears intercept a weird sound. Something like 'clunck'. Something metal? Yanaike couldn't place the sound, it didn't sound familiar and that made her curious to what it could be. She dropped the book on the ground and opened the door of the captains quarters just far enough so she could look outside.
The pirates were detaching the cargo ship! Yanaike understood why. It must be, because they wanted to increase speed. Two ships attached together are slow. However by detaching the cargo ship, there was a possibility that the pirate ship would be able to escape the military ship. A little grin appeared on Yanaike's face. So the pirates weren't so dumb after all. Yanaike carefully watched the pirates and at the moment they were not looking, she started crawling towards the main deck by using her stealth techniques. She didn't want any of the pirates to notice her. However she wanted to take a closer look at the detaching-process.

Crawl as she might, the corridors heading to the main deck was narrow, just like any regular airships. Many of the pirates saw and passed across Yanaike, but they did not pay any attention to her. They were to busy trying to save the airship as well as their lives. They already knew that Yanaike was the captain's daughter, therefore there were no need for them to halt her, unless she does anything that would cause them harm.

By the time she reached the deck, the cargo airship was already far from view. It was too late for Yanaike to study the detaching process of the hooks. In any case, the detaching did not happen on the main deck. The mechanism of controlling the cables and hooks were installed elsewhere.

The army airship was close, their speed seemed to match.

Eanik was standing behind the navigating wheel of the airship. His attention constantly changing from the army airship to the direction he was heading the airship. He then spoke to a device attached to a thin cable leading into the wooden floors of the airship where it was concealed from view.

"Ba'alo! Give us cover!" Eanik exclaimed into the device.

"Eye'eye, Captain." A voice came from the small speakers attached to the device.

Many more cannonballs was shot from the multitudes cannons of the army airship. It seemed that they did not care for the lives of the prisoners. The cannonballs punch multiple holes through the pirate airships. The pirate retaliate by returning shots at the army airships. The army airship fired flames using their artillery. One unlucky pirate did not manage to dodge the fire. He was engulfed in flames, trashing wildly before kneeling down and dying on the dark burnt floor.

The flames were headed for Yanaike. How will she react? Where was she located on the main deck? Use the link below to see the plans of the airship.
