Name: Leire "Golemancer" Baldrson (First name is pronounced like Lie-ra)
Age: 25 (due to her mutations, she is practically unable to age)
Height: 6'6"
Gender: Female
Position: Professor of History
Personality (MBTI is INTJ): To describe Leire in a single word is difficult but possible: distant. She tends to be detached from the emotional side of things, though she does feel them all the time. She normally functions off logical, rational approaches and prefers thought before action. This, coupled with her dizzying thought process, tends to leave people behind or feeling like she doesn't care about anything. Many of her beliefs, thoughts, and actions can seem contradictory upon first glance, but within her thought processes, they always make sense and work together. Knowing her personality is not good for social interaction, she spent much of her teenage and adult life cultivating social abilities. She can express herself to a decent degree and puts a lot of energy into her relationships and projects. She holds herself to high standards and extends some of the standards to others. Those that work independently will find her critical and helpful with their work, but those that rely upon constant oversight will find her aloof and confused that they can't do it on their own. If a friend wants to improve and she possesses the skills to help, she will push them and drive them to improve. Her mind treats life like a massive game of chess or go. Pieces move, tactics change, things fall into place. Should she obtain a love interest, she will invest seemingly endless amounts of energy into the relationship. In general, though, she has a hard time providing emotional support and struggles with empathy. Anyone above her in the chain of command cannot use rank. She disregards rank and superiority in favor for holding them to standards. She challenges authority and social conventions, often ignoring conventions that do not make immediate sense to her. Those with thin skins will likely mistakenly believe she hates them or is an asshole. Really, she just states what she sees as coolly and directly as possible. If told it bothers the person or if she notices, she will likely try to temper it, but she will still not compliment. She uses her emotions as either a driving force or as a means to recognize problems in her life.
Biography: Born to a middle class family in Iowa, Leire's life was not cushy, but it was comfortable enough. She was the odd child of her family. Her siblings were social butterflies and athletes. She spent her time studying, playing games, or learning things. Her parents pushed her to join sports and go to dances and social gatherings, but these simply pissed her off. She also rebelled against being forced to go to church. Her parents kept attempting to force her, but she eventually got them to stop badgering her about it. Her powers manifested late, when she turned 19. She was in college. She managed to keep her mutant powers secret until she obtained her Master's in History from University of Michigan.
At the age of 24, soon after receiving her degree, her powers were found out. She couldn't pack up and leave in time. A mob seized her and dragged her to a wooded area. There, they tied her up to a tree and began stabbing knives into her. The hours of agony and pain held fast when the group left. She couldn't move due to the knives in her body. She could only hang in the tree and suffer the constant pain and building thirst. After a day, the pain had gotten too great for her to keep conscious and she blacked out. She woke to a Southern Creole accent and a pair of blazing red eyes. The knives were removed and her limbs were untied. Using her powers, she luckily had enough material to cover the wounds. The man introduced himself as Gambit and told her she would be safe where he was taking her. Not having any energy to argue, she gave a slight nod and slept to recover.
Gambit brought her to the Institute, where her degree set her up as a history teacher. Here, she learned that golems could be made with her powers as well as items. The first year had her honing her powers to the point of easy use. Gambit and her became friends, and she frequently jokes with him that he only untied her because of her boobs.
Powers and Abilities: Leire's powers have exactly three applications: self-enhancement, minion creation, and item creation. She can enhance herself by altering her density, exact composition, and form to suit her needs. This allows her to even regenerate her body should she be damaged and have available material. Minions created by her are golems and will follow her orders without question. They lack the ability to make intuitive decisions, but they can be taught friend and foe. She can alter their form after creation by adding, removing, or shaping material. Her item creation is limited to items that are simple, like melee weapons, simple hand tools. Though she seems to look human most times, her entire body is made of a clay-like material. She learned how to appear as human and even feels human to the touch unless she decides to change her form. This has rendered her sterile and removed the need to eat or breathe. She does, however, need to sleep. Her powers are centered on minerals, so she can create even metallic items or alter her body to be metallic. She has superhuman durability and strength. (She can readily lift 10 tons in clay form, but she can get up to 75 tons of lifting ability depending upon her whole body composition)
Altering her own body takes time. To alter to a substance of similar hardness and density, it takes a few seconds. The less similar the new form will be, the more time it will take. The longest a full body changes takes would be around 15-20 seconds. Single limbs take only a couple seconds to change, but this will not alter her lifting capacity. To change into a metallic form, she would require 30 seconds to alter her entire body. As such, she is more reliant upon golems and avoidance to allow time to adapt to changing battlefields.
Forming items takes almost no time, assuming the material desired is at hand. If it requires alteration prior to forming, she must take anywhere from 5-20 seconds to alter the substance to her needs. This timing follows the same paradigm as her self-alteration.
Minion creation is far less expedient. This takes a minute to form a single minion of any material. She cannot create multiple minions simultaneously. This power is relegated more to noncombat exercises or pre-combat prep than in battle creation. It also requires large amounts of material, so many places are unsuited to this application.
Weaknesses: Leire shares a bond with each golem she creates. When destroyed, she is hit with a non-lethal but large stab of sympathetic pain. This can, if applied multiple times in short time frames, knock her unconscious. Using her power to regenerate create requires sufficient materials in the vicinity. If denied minerals nearby or not desiring to weaken structural integrity, Leire will be restricted to self-ehancement. Her normal form and most mineral changes to herself make her basically non-conductive, but if she changes to a metal, she can become highly conductive or even magnetically active. Her base clay-like form acts like a human body without internal organs or bones to break, so she is vulnerable to cutting attacks and deforms with blunt attacks; she can reform the result of the blunt attack, assuming it didn't rip off pieces. When a harder substance like stone, she tends to become more vulnerable to blunt attacks. When metallic, blunt attacks likely deform her, but her real weakness is softening by heat. Her power disallows her form to deviate too far from a humanoid form. Her golem minions follow the same limitations. Her own body is heavily restricted in size. At most, she can alter her height by two feet. She also weighs a lot, relative to the material she is made of. (Clay-like baseline makes her weigh about 340 pounds) Despite not eating or breathing, Leire does still drink water. She only requires 1/10 of the water a human needs, but it can still lead to her dehydrating, which causes similar symptoms as humans with the added detriment of her body cracking and drying. This makes her sluggish and eventually immobile, in a form of suspended animation. If she is then submerged in water for a few hours, she will reanimate, likely also in a really bad mood.
Leire is not warm-blooded and in fact lacks blood. She adopts the temperature of her surroundings and thus feels that way. To reduce discomfort caused by her feeling cool, she normally covers her hands with gloves.
Her golems share an emotional bond with her. They mirror her mood and act accordingly. When she is happy, they tend to become passive and actually create deep, rumbling purrlike sounds. When their creator is angry, they stoop into a more aggressive stance and growl with the sound of shifting rock. This makes it hard for her to hide her actual mood if a golem is within sight.
Appearance:
Others: Due to its lack of effect on her, she drinks alcohol and soda consistently. She claims it relaxes her, though the effect is most obviously just psychological. She has a Midwestern accent with no traces of Canadian influence. Her main hobbies are video games, harp playing, and sculpting. Most of her out of class time is spent alone. Identifies as an atheist, though she is by no means militant. She can change sex if desired and can change appearance, but she normally maintains her normal appearance. It is what she looked like her whole life and is preferred.
