Hi everyone, thank you so much for your patience and all the positive energy. It's 3:30 pm here now, I hope to have this up in the next couple of hours.
justice hunt that's a great question, and I counted eight people on the thread. Eight seems like a good number, so
everyone who has responded before this post is reserved a spot, and will be notified as soon as the OOC is up.
Now this is just something I was typing away yesterday, and i have plans to condense it before including it in the intro, but it will give you some insight into the history of the X-Men universe you will be living in. Hopefully this will help keep the excitement up. I'm sorry it's so long, I typed it up in notepad.
In the last 500 years, an aggressive step in the evolution of humanity has
begun. The X-gene, an unexplained alteration in the genetic makeup of
humans, has cause the emergence of 'homo sapien superior', humans with
extraordinary abilities. They people, dubbed 'mutants' by a society that
doesn't understand them, have found themselves the targets of persecution.
Feared because of their strange gifted, mutants have had to struggle for
survival in a world of fear, oppression, and discrimination. The first
record of mutants by scientist occurred during World War II. A young boy
was reported to possess the ability to bend metal with thought, which
sparked Nazi scientist to hunt for more members of the 'superior race'.
Though they never managed to find another subject, and the young boy
eventually escaped, it was only a matter of time before their existance
would become known to entire world.
In the year 1985, the CIA puts together a secret task force for use
in high profile missions, difficult to accomplish through conventional means.
Named Team X, the team was comprised of mutants, the first of its kind.
Lead by the mutant Wolverine, the oldest living mutant, and first to be
captured by the U.S. government. Team X met with a lot of success for the
4 years that they were in operation. Their overwhelming success led the
government to rethink just how dangerous Team X was, and saw its members
placed on the Black List. The group disbanded and went into hiding.
1995 saw the opening of Xavier's School for the Gifted, a shelter for mutants,
dedicated to education and the control of ones powers. Its founders Charles
Xavier, Eric Lehnsherr, and Hank McCoy sought to create a safe place for
mutants to live, and use the school as a foundation for human and mutant
coexistance. The school at first met with success, housing mutants runaways
and exist in society peacefully.
1997 a serial killer with mutant powers goes on a two month killing spree
claiming 72 lives. His eventual execution by police officers does little to
quell the hysteria and fear that the killing had created. The date was
July 21, 1997, four hours after the serial killer mutant was gun down, a
massive riot engulfed the country. Forever remembered as the 'Witch Hunt
of 97', it is estimated that 300 mutants were slaughtered by hysteristic crowds.
Xavier's School for the Gifted was attacked and forced to relocate. Two
students were slain.
After an arguement over how they should responded to the murders of
fellow mutants Eric permantently parts with Xavier.
1999 construction finishes on the new Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters,
a new project built in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Though disagreeing
with Eric's aggressive ideas, he did agree that he would need a way to
defend his students if the need arose. This was the first formation of the
X-Men. He chooses four older students with exceptional abilities and will,
Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Warren Worthington III, and Bobby Drake.
Charles Xavier, Hank McCoy and the four students make up the first team
of X-Men, a defense team if ever the school should be attacked.
The presidential election of 2000 sees mutants a major political topic. During
an antimutant rally, attended by one of the presidential candidates, Eric
Lehnsherr, calling himself Magneto, introdued his Brotherhood of Mutants,
a mutant based militia willing to proactively fight those that would harm mutants.
They rally is completely decimated, and sends antimutant sentiment through
the roof.
Xavier relizes that the only chance for humans to see mutants in a good light,
will be fore mutants to defend them from other mutants. After a meeting with
the X-Men, it is decided that they will militarize the team, and fight in the defense
of humanity.
The next year is spent training, as well as seeking out fellow mutants through
the use of Cerebro,a machine which expands a telepaths natural range and
focus.
2002-2010 the X-Men are the premier defenders of humanity against evil
forces seeking to hurt or destroy them. Charles Xavier's X-Men and Magneto's
Brotherhood find themselves clashing over the years. The X-Men operated in
two teams; Cyclops, Iceman, Colossus, and Banshee led by Charles, and Beast
Storm,Jean Grey, Sunfire led by Wolverine.
2011 the Pheonix Crisis sees Jean Grey possessed by a malevolent cosmic
energy. The X-Men are force to kill the Pheonix to prevent it from particlizing
the Earth in order to use as nourishment. A battle on Manhattan island ensues
that sinks half the island, and kills Banshee, and Sunfire. Charles Xavier
also suffers a crippling back injury. The school was also reduced to cinder
after Pheonix burned it down.
2014 Jean Grey Academy is opened in San Francisco, the place of our story.
The new school, dedicated to the memory of those who died, is the most advanced
and functional school to date. The new classes are scheduled to begin in
September, and the many new faces have been popping up. The world is
still a dangerous place for mutants, and Charles is still dedicated to his
vision of a world of peaceful coexistance between mutants and humans.
