Over the years, I'm sure we've all heard some variation of writers offering this advice to other aspiring writers: write men using shorter sentences, more to the point. Women tend to use more words, meander through their sentences.
Or something to that effect.
Personally, I find the advice-- like a great deal of well-meaning "dos and donts" for new writers-- to be confining. I know a great deal of stoic women, and I know a great deal of chatty men-- I'm one of them. Writing is an art form, and like any other, I believe it should be open to the creator's own experiences and interpretation.
How do you feel about that advice? Do you like it? Do you follow it?
