    World Under Construction takes place in a blank world named Illusia that expands as player characters known as vanguard explore. Wherever the vanguard explore, the gods of this world, the players, create new environments and characters for them to find/meet. vanguard hold onto the memory of all the places, people, and experiences that they have, and it is this memory which allows things to exist. In short, vanguard were made by the Gods to hold onto the memory of the places and people they meet, which allows those things to exist. Consequently, if every vanguard loses their memory of a particular person, activity, or location, then that thing will cease to exist.

    Your character will begin the RP alongside the other vanguards in a smallish environment with walls that block the outside world, no ceiling however, with a single door leading outside. The room is large enough for everyone to live in, and it has the necessities for survival, though only enough to subsist. Your character knows nothing of the outside world, nor of the other characters. They only know that they are a vanguard, and everything that entails.

    1) Be active! It’s necessary in this RP to speak to the other members and figure out the details of the places our characters will visit. Pay attention to this rule!

    2) I know this should be known by all of you already, but please be kind to one another in the OOC. It’s really important that we all get along so that this RP can be amazing~

    3) In this RP, there isn’t going to be a specific posting order. (I just think it gets messy when things are done that way.) I recommend waiting for two posts, but if it can’t be helped, then it is acceptable

    4)I’m going to create a skype group for this RP, since I believe this makes us all a bit closer!

    5) If you have a question at any time about the RP, please don’t hesitate to ask. I am here to help you, not hinder you. And if you do ask a question, I won’t make fun of you. I promise I don’t bite much.

    6) Make sure that the person your character is responding to is getting a full response. Read the post that your character is reacting to, and then have your character both act and react to the situation at hand. Simultaneously, referencing their post and helping the other players understand your character. It’s more fulfilling for all parties if this is done.

    MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
    Current Goal/Purpose: To become the reigning King of Card Games.
    Talents: Analytical and critical thinking, being an asshole.
    Inabilities: Cooking, being careful of people's feelings.
    Fears: Ayaka has an innate fear of sentience among non-humans, though she has no idea why.
    General Personality: Ayaka is cold and relentless. She refuses to try and be nice to people, especially people she views as having weaknesses or being dead weight. She does have a sense of humour, however, it is very dry and ruthless, and most people don't understand it. She doesn't care. Those people are inferior anyway. She has the opinion that everything can be made fun of, without a single exception. She instantly hates everyone she meets and slowly warms to them over time.
    Inner Personality: If you do manage to get past her icy exterior - IE, you prove to her that you're not boring, monotonous or annoying, she can be quite friendly. Her sense of humour remains the same, but the people on this side of her are the ones who realise that when she says something racist/sexist/etc, she's making a joke, and not trying to "create a character", as some people think she is.
    Secret: She doesn't want people to know she likes card games.

    Ayaka's weapon is a kind of photon cannon. She has no idea where she got it, she just kinda woke up next to it. It looks like the weapon in the image, except is only 75% of the size. It is surprisingly light, being made of a futuristic alloy. The end pointing toward the sky is the end the projectile comes out of. It currently seems to be lacking ammunition. She does not know what ammo it actually needs though, so it is little more than a chair for now.

    Current Goal/Purpose: Kijin feels somewhat directionless, and often looks towards the guidance of others to decide what she wants to do. For now, she just wants to learn, laugh, and grow.
    Talents: Wise-beyond her years, Extremely Observant, Loyal, and Persistent
    Inabilities: Overly Reserved, Fragile, Gullible, and Lacking Confidence
    Fears: Someone stealing her away, being molested, being publicly humiliated, people suffering for her failures
    General Personality: Kijin is the type of person who loves to be just outside the center of attention, or in the company of just one other person. She prefers to observe and wait, but equally enjoys being invited into activities. When presented with a challenge, she often doubts her own abilities, often causing her to lock up at critical moments. However, she is able to overcome this fear with the proper encouragement. Kijin, while not friendly in the extroverted sense, quietly supports the people she likes, and has a habit of showing up when she is most needed.
    Inner Personality: Kijin wants to become confident, but always finds herself lost in how amazing the people around her are. She often compares herself to others. Consequently, she sees herself as having a long way to go before she will reach their level. What Kijin doesn’t see is how willing she is to see the very best in people, and her thoughtfulness is her most endearing quality.

    Weapon: Elegantly designed sword of unknown origin. The material of the sword seems to be of some futuristic metallic alloy composition. However, the blue hue of the sword makes identifying the material difficult. It can cut through most substances with ease. With no idea of where the sword came from, he simply holds on to it until he finds a need to use it. Most probably to cut his way through the world(s) around him.

    MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
    Current Goal/Purpose: To explore and learn about the entirety of the world around him. Then he wishes to conquer it gloriously and rule the lands justly as King.
    Talents: Talented swordsman, observant, unusually strong.
    Inabilities: Thinking on strategy, difficulty in staying motivated, stubborn beyond reason.
    Fears: A fear of failing his followers, of being forgotten to time, and of dying alone.
    General Personality: The Glorious King of all the lands before you! The Great Iskandar! Boldly rushing forward in a blaze of glory to rule everything and plunder all riches to claim for his own. He'll rush off without thinking, make bold decisions for other people without asking for their opinions, and will seek fights in order to prove his might. He is always trying to motivate others with grand speeches so they will follow him. He tries to smile often and aid others when he can. Overly optimistic and never quitting even when the odds are impossible.
    Inner Personality: A more sensitive, caring young man that does what he can for others. He'll still be the blunt, brazen king that everyone knows and basks in the glory of; however, he'll also be more calm, casual, and open with those around him. A king that is just another person like those that he keeps close around him. The kind of person that'll see a small animal and aid it or help a child in need.
    Secret: He has trouble talking to/dealing with women.

    More: Kaliya is a little short for her age, a rare, but, not uncommon occurrence for her people.

    MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
    Current Goal/Purpose: To become the best archer (and animal lover) there is.
    Talents: Archery, taming small-medium sized animals (she gets too nervous around bigger ones), hiding amongst trees.
    Inabilities: Sticking around extremely crowded/packed places, navigating Urban Jungles, wielding particularly large/heavy melee weapons.

    Fears: Particularly large insects, Being attacked by big animals, Complete Isolation
    General Personality: Typically, Kaliya is a slightly timid girl, but, one with alot of curiosity in her… She lacks the flamboyant attitude one might expect her to have in her most of the time, however, she tends to display a sizeable amount of confidence in her actions. Most of the time, she readily helps others in need, whether they be animals, or other vanguards, though, she may not be the most verbal about it at first.
    Inner Personality: Despite what most may believe, Kaliya is quite the talkative person on the inside… Bubbly, and full of energy, that sort of behavior tended to scare animals, so, this part of her personality has been dampened a little. One could say she is but a spark, and all she would need is the right fuel to become a fire.
    Secret: A lot of the time, she is actually a little indecisive about her orientation, she finds people attractive based on their personality… But was always under the impression she had to choose between one gender or the other.
    More: Though she tries her best to keep her actions or words from being too sudden or too loud, there are a few rare cases where she is unable to keep such things from happening… This is often a bit setback if she is trying to approach an animal.

  6. Character Name: Malign Nasia

    GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
    General Appearance: Malign stands at the height of 5’7, with a wiry build that’s hidden under the black-steel armor that encompasses the entirety of his body, save his face. His face is round, and his hair goes from black to silver at the tips, often hiding his right eye. It is unknown whether or not he’s capable of removing his armor, but, at the very least, the dark cloak that he wears as a mantle CAN be removed.
    His eyes change with the location, from green in forests to blue in the rivers to gray in the mountains.
    Gender: Male
    Orientation: Sexuality, unconfirmed. Definitely biromantic.
    Species/Race: Looks human.
    Age: Undetermined. Biologically, he’s a young adult.
    Extra: Malign’s body is abnormal, one that is forever frozen in time and immune to suffering. Poisons and medicines have no effect on him, and neither illness nor weapons can make a mark on him. Eating won’t make him feel any fuller than he is, and no amount of physical training would make him any stronger than he is. His hair does not grow and cannot be cut. His voice will never change. He will never hunger, and death is only a momentary pain for him. The only variable to this perfectly consistent existence is his stamina, something that is recovered through sleep, and sleep alone.

    MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
    Current Goal/Purpose: To find his identity.
    Talents: Walking, Not Dying, Ignoring Troublesome Things, Remembering and Recalling
    Inabilities: Fighting, Cooking, Household Chores
    Fears: Being unable to walk anymore. Being buried alive. Forgetting who he currently is.
    General Personality: Malign Nasia is a deep thinker, someone who’s full of wisdoms that he articulates in a laconic manner. He speaks little, but when he does, he makes sure that every word is not wasted. A pacifist who strays away from raising a fist, there is a certain air of benevolence that radiates from him as he stubbornly uses his body as a shield. He protects and never strikes back, showing his kindness in small actions and gestures, but at the same time, he rarely stays in one place for long. Time moves on, and so does Malign, as he chases for something that shouldn’t exist.
    Inner Personality: Malign really doesn’t actually think that much. His mind is full of what he sees, burning it into his memory, and the amount of time he spends alone with his thoughts generally lasts only until he falls asleep after closing his eyes for rest. Everything he says is from the top of his head, after he spends time wondering whether or not he should just ignore it, and his pacifism stems not from kindness or cowardice, but from the fact that he’s the kind of existence that can’t bleed even after a sword cleaves into his shoulder. The pain hurts, but it’s momentary, a memory not worth remembering. And thus, he doesn't care how others try to hurt him.
    Secret: Cannibalism.
    Extra: His existence as a vanguard is simple. The other vanguards are there to record locations, people, and whatever else. His purpose is to record the ‘paths’ through those locations. If the vanguards are there to create the world, Malign Nasia exists to create the trails through the world.

    Oliver is an extremely intelligent and obedient person. As far as everyone knows, he's practically a butler. Well... Except for the fact that he can't deal with males. He's only able to serve women and carry out tasks that are only given out by women. For some reason, he just freezes up around men. He doesn't know why, and the other women don't know why. He just does. Oliver is an extreme pacifist and won't fight under any circumstances. Oliver is also very hard to anger, but when he does it's very cute. He just cutely yells at people and then huffs away. Oliver likes to make people happy, no matter the cost.

    Inner Personality:
    Oliver is an extremely clingy person, but he's afraid of offending people, so he avoids touching at all costs. He enjoys making others feel better, but he views himself as inadequate to others. He hates talking about himself, but he also enjoys it. Though, he hides this fact by usually not talking, but if he trusts someone enough, he will freely converse with them. In rare cases, he will let something slip and then he will go into a kind of 'panic mode' where he just apologizes for a few minutes.

    Secret:
    Oliver is homosexual and he's terribly embarrassed by it.

  8. Oh yeah, a question. Are all vanguards immortal? Or do they generally age and die like normal humans? Alternatively, what even makes them different from humans, outside of the fact that their memories become reality? And what happens if they go through, say, a super traumatic experience and their brain does that psychological thing where memories are either repressed or altered?

    And what if two vanguards hold different memories of the same place?
     
  9. Very excellent questions!

    To answer your first question, vanguards are not immortal. They can age and die as normal humans. Other than the fact that they have memories that become reality, there's not really anything different between them and average humans. If they do happen to go through that, the place will change according to how the memories were altered. If the memories are repressed, the place visited becomes quite vague. In most cases, it would probably be an abandoned town with a few simple buildings.

    To answer your second question, if vanguard hold memories of the same place, the memories will be put together to create the place in the memory. So whatever information is contained in the memories, is created.

  10. Are vanguards constantly created? Or are they expected to reproduce like humans and give more pieces for the gods to play with?

    And if that's the case, you might want to read my CS then. My character's whole shtick is that he's some sort of immortal. XD
     
  11. Vanguards are not constantly created. And they're welcome to reproduce like other humans, but their offspring will not hold the same powers they do. Vanguards are a small group created solely for the purpose of entertainment/practice for the creation gods (us).

    I've already read your CS and I would say that he is overreaching his bounds a bit. All the characters are human and should have human characteristics. It's quite possible that one of them will die. But... When they do, another vanguard will be put in their place. So... Would you mind nerfing him a bit? I'm really sorry to make you do that after you made such an awesome character!
     
  12. Hm, I'll probably just make a different sheet then. His whole personality is based off the fact that there's no point in him doing anything, because there's no way for him to die.

    But wait...the vanguards aren't constantly created, and they don't reproduce...so you're saying that the world basically ends after a single generation of humans?
     
  13. No no no. When a vanguard dies, another one will be created. So... It will be a never-ending cycle. And the world will just continue to expand and expand.

    The Great, The Grand, The Giant

    • General Appearance:
      “Big” would be the first word that comes to mind when first seeing Anzo; A giant of a man standing over 2 meters (over 6`8”) tall and weighing in over 120 kgs (260+ lbs) of muscle even without his heavy armor, it is enough to make one wonder if it really is a human under that suit of armor. That is the way Anzo likes it; Refusing to take off his helmet, Anzo wishes to be seen as a symbol or an unyielding wall than as a person one can relate to. However, he is quite willing to take off his other attire, even if situations don’t demand such actions…
      His frame is muscular and stocky, with shoulders that could carry a person or two and limbs comparable to small trees. His dark body hair is a brown color, and it is presumed the same color on his head.

      His most characteristic feature is how his thunderous voice is able to travel so far so easily, even from underneath his helmet.

      Gender: Male
      Orientation: Straight
      Species: Human(?)
      Age: Optimistically, nearing the end of his prime. Realistically, a few years past his prime.

      More: Anzo is fully equipped in a suit of armor. The armor’s physical appearance changes from place to place to reflect the world around him, though it does so subtly. As in “overnight when nobody's looking” subtly. Though it’s pretty easy to expect when it will change (usually the first night in a new land, and again only when out of sight—including Anzo—for a decent length of time), what its new appearance will be is a mystery.

    • Current Goal/Purpose: Die a heroic or honorable death.

      Talents:
      Stamina—Anzo can hike across a mountain and back again. Thrice.
      Strength—Strength of arm is the most obvious power that Anzo exhibits, but he has a will of steel and unbreakable sense of self. Of course, his physical prowess is something to behold, bordering on the unnatural.
      Cooking—A big man needs a big meal, and big meals are expensive. It’s much cheaper and filling to just cook it himself, and he knows a few tips and tricks to make such a feast go down easy.
      Indomitable Warrior—Battles have rules. Fighters have honor. And as long as those principles are followed, Anzo will win.

      Inabilities:
      Flexibility—It’ll take him longer to climb a cliff than it would to take a detour around it.
      Dexterity—It’s much easier, and faster, to break down a door than pick the lock.
      Musicality and Artistic Expression—Give him a paintbrush or an instrument and he’ll be happy for the extra kindling.
      Academics and Politics—Anzo isn’t all brawn and no brain, he’s just hardwired for gut feelings and battlefield tactics rather than the complex and long-reaching nuances of government and business.

      Fears:
      Old Age—Age is a terrible curse, to wither away and watch your body crumble is a nightmare Anzo never wants to live through.
      Being a liability—With such an unyielding sense of justice and confidence, no man would want to bring down those around him, and Anzo is no exception.
      Being forgotten—All men die, and all heroes must fall. The difference between them, though, is that one is remembered and celebrated long past his time. Anzo wishes to join the ranks of those remembered.

    • General Personality:
      Anzo’s personality can be described in two flavors:
      Boisterous, Loud, Exuberant, Rambunctious… Any of those terms could fit the good-humored, pleasure-seeking side of Anzo. An amiable and easily excitable person, Anzo’s simple honesty and confidence in himself allows him to (persistently) pursue a friendship with anyone. Anzo does have a soft spot for fine food, fine wine, and fine women!

      Honorable, Chivalrous, Gallant, Magnanimous… These terms may fit the knightly, cordial side of Anzo. Noble and compassionate, Anzo seeks justice and fairness in all things and is unafraid of twisting his rules as long as the heart of it remains unchanged. With this personal and flexible justice leading his way, his will and mental fortitude are impregnable fortresses. That, or he’s just a stubborn old man who doesn’t know when to quit.

      In both cases, Anzo’s amiable character is one that leaves an impression, and his intimidating physical body helps support his larger-than-life aura. Ever cheerful, ever optimistic, and ever laughing, Anzo tries to being a dependable and trustworthy fortress that will always support everyone.

      Inner Personality:
      Being Anzo is… tiring. By keeping up the charade of “being a symbol, not a person” means he can’t make mistakes. To constantly work for justice and for the benefit of all means he can’t take any breaks. Being endlessly cheerful and happy, even when uncalled for, means he sometimes he sometimes can’t show his true feelings. Being depending on by someone is a great, satisfying feeling. But carrying people, being a constant pillar of support? It is exhausting.

      Secret:
      Sometimes Anzo would rather be someone, something other than Anzo.

  15. I see what you are saying, but generally speaking the vanguard have redundant memory. It is extremely possible for sections of the world to be lost, but the only way you'd lose the entire world is if all vanguard died simultaneously.
     
  16. So, the gods create the world but the data about that is stored in the memory of the vanguards? And when a vanguard is destroyed, all relevant information disappears? So if only one vanguard stores the data for a certain evil forest of evil, that evil forest of evil disappears if that vanguard dies?
