Heavenfall
Four millenium before the start of our story the apocalyptic event that reshaped the very mechanisms of the world occurred. The event was known as Heavenfall by its survivors due to the fact that a strange energy, unlike any natural phenomena that could be explained, struck the earth repeatedly. The strikes themselves were silent and moved so fast that they appeared like a constant stream of energy rather than as separate blasts. They devastated anything around them like a series of nuclear warheads. By the time any living being could figure out what could cause this threat it stopped.

The end of the world seemed to have ended, but it had only begun. Far off on an island continent a statue suddenly appeared from one of these flashes of light. It depicted a fearsome humanoid monster with tendrils crawling out of his back and into the world beneath him as if to support it. It's arm was outstretched holding back the enormous blade and man just as big itself looming over it. The blade was just inches from piercing the monster's heart. From the open mouth of the monster a haze started to cover the earth in one last attempt to destroy the precious creation of its enemy. The haze's effects were unpredictable by any other than Aroa the Protector of Time. It was like every possible horrible thing one could imagine just manifesting randomly and it did not move slow. Aroa directed her siblings to every corner of the world, but even at their incomprehensible speeds it covered the world quickly and got its teeth in everything.

Animals and plants mutated into deadly creatures of the night. Mortals themselves started to mutate into hideous creatures. Before the miasma could become too dangerous the remaining Protectors of Aereos decided to use their own magical power to suppress and contain the miasma, but they could not destroy or reverse its effects. Had the threat been something beneath them then a wave of the hand would have been enough, but considering this was a power that rivaled their brother, their king, not even they could handle this passively. Instead they imbued their power into statues and the races of man to act as living barriers against the miasma.

The Protectors of Aereos were a diverse group of humanoid beings that had existed since the planet's birth and possessed awesome powere akin to a god. However, despite what the mortal races thought, they were not gods and merely beings tasked by the true gods to protect the world from events such as this. Eventually, the Protectors learned that the enemy called themselves Demon Lords, and that these lords sought not the destruction of Aereos, but its domination. The Demon Lords were not a passive force either they utilized their might against the smaller races without exception. To combat this, with the power of Taika the Protector of Magic and Aroa the Protector of Time, The Protectors sealed themselves and the Demon Lords in a pocket dimension where they fight endlessly.

The mortal races who had for millennium lived alongside their "gods" could feel their presence disappear. The beings that attacked Aereos became known as demons and their thirst for destruction could not be sated. The primitive mortal races struggled at first to handle the threat, but eventually they adapted and learned about their enemies. A mixed group of races stormed a city, successfully retaking it, and the Thousand Year War began.

The Birth of the Mortal Races

The Beginning
In the beginning of Aereos, after the supreme beings of light and darkness had populated the world with greenery and beasts, eight superhuman beings were created. They were to be the protectors and caretakers of the world the supreme beings had made. They were also meant to populate it. Each of them were bestowed the gift of creation and the knowledge of how to use it. However, such knowledge was overwhelming and they all unanimously refused to use their gifts and instead explored the world of their creators.

The Humans & Timesouls
The Cave Taikal

A great deal of time would pass and the cycle of creatures became monotonous to some of the protectors like; Akachi and Aroa. However, Daichi found excitement in a newfound love for his sister Taika. Daichi wanted to display his love to Taika so he spent several days creating a masterpiece. When Daichi finished his creation he took Taika deep into the mountains and there within the mountain caves he made a flower bloom from nothing, but the magical ores around it. This magical flower was the size of a man and had [Taika Color Palette] petals. They slept under the warmth and shade of this magical flower and Taika was surprised to find it to be very warm. Then under the shade Daichi professed his love for his sister and asked if he could come see her when the moons were their brightest. Taika accepted.

God's Gambit
Taika continued about her days playing with the laws of magic within the confines of her shrine as she contemplated Daichi's words. Yet, to her surprise she was visited by her brother Duilio who carried a small wooden box. In the box were sets of cards she'd never seen before. Duilio had created a card game he called God's Gambit to test the mental strength of the protectors and to alleviate their boredom. However, what he had to show Taika was the art he himself had painted of her on one of these cards. Duilio then explained how moved he was by her beauty and that he loved her. Taika was shocked, she had been confessed to twice now, and had no idea how to respond. Duilio then asked if he could see her on the night of the full moons and again Taika accepted.
Taika then immediately ran to Aroa to seek advice for she had foolishly accepted the proposal from both of her brothers. Aroa told Taika not to worry and to see them as she normally would. Then on the same night as the brothers approached Taika's bedroom down the same corridor Aroa would split time in two creating a reality in which Duilio visited Taika alone and another in which Daichi visited her alone. Taika, whose mind existed in two worlds at once, experienced unrivaled ecstacy. When the deed was done and the brother's had left in the morning Aroa slammed reality back together and Taika would find herself pregnant with twins.
Taika's twins lacked Duilio's fur, but they carried Taika and Daichi's human features. However, one of them carried the soul of Aroa and Aroa could feel herself directly linked to them. Duilio didn't need Aroa's gift of foresight to know that something was odd. He went and sealed himself within the confines of his shrine. Taika and Daichi took care of their children around Taika's shrine and watched as they grew. Over centuries they slowly built villages and explored the world.
