World Building Ad Libs

The following functions like mad libs. Instead of spaces, there are parentheticals to be replaced. Replace the words and parentheses around them with the sort of word or phrase or part of speech mentioned. This is a fun way to make a quick world specific to a genre. Let's start with science fiction. Keep in mind, this isn't the Asylum, so behave a bit.


The world of (World name) orbits a (color) star and is planet number (number) in the system. Despite the constant threat of (adjective) (noun), it is a pleasant world, renowned in the galaxy of (galaxy name) for its exports of fine (product) and its amazing (cultural attraction). The inhabitants of the world are known as the (species name here). They are a (adjective) people, believing in (noun) and (noun) of their fellow (same species name). While not known for their (noun), they (verb) very well and are also among the best (verb)ers in the galaxy.

Their (type of government) is ruled by a (governmental body) consisting of (number) (high government job). In the interest of (noun), they have begun to issue new laws enforcing (adjective) (verb) of (noun) for people in the (direction) province of the largest (landmass type).

The inhabitants of the world are known as the Tekkani. They are a progressive people, believing in science and advancement of their fellow Tekkani. While not known for their tolerance, they advance very well and are also among the best inventors in the galaxy.

Their technocracy is ruled by a council consisting of 5 kings. In the interest of technology, they have begun to issue new laws enforcing brutal study of alien artifacts for people in the northern province of the largest continent.

Rogue AIs are very common on this world, and they outnumber natural fauna by the hundreds. This has become a major issue, prompting the use of hacker-hunts in an attempt to quickly curb their population. However, the members of the Artificial Intelligence Society have dedicated themselves to helping rogue AIs overcome this troublesome trend.

All in all, Tekka is a technologically superior powerhouse with beautiful inventions and a host of talented inhabitants. If only it could overcome that one little problem...

The world of Howlan orbits a Green star and is planet number 1st in the system. Despite the constant threat of impending apocolypses, it is a pleasant world, renowned in the galaxy of Carlergen for its exports of fine fish and its amazing oceans and beaches. The inhabitants of the world are known as the Joglians. They are a gentle people, believing in luxury and wellbeing of their fellow Joglians. While not known for their intelligence, they swim very well and are also among the best swimmers in the galaxy.

Their democracy is ruled by the Collection consisting of 3 observers, a group of wise and omniscient people that rule. In the interest of public safety and obedience, they have begun to issue new laws enforcing constant watching of the public for people in the North province of the largest district.

Cats are very common on this world, and they outnumber mongrel dogs by not much, however. This has become a major issue, prompting the use of catnip in an attempt to brutally cull their population. However, the members of the Stray Animal Endangerment Helpers have dedicated themselves to helping cats overcome this troublesome trend.

All in all, Howlan is an environmentally stunning world with beautiful beaches and a host of talented inhabitants. If only it could overcome that one little problem...

 

[Turtle of Doom]

The world of Glasbog orbits a green star and is planet number eight in the system. Despite the constant threat of greedy slavers, it is a pleasant world, renowned in the galaxy of Artemis Nebula for its exports of fine silk and its amazing Wall of Statues. The inhabitants of the world are known as the Boggans. They are a fierce people, believing in unity and extravagance for their fellow Boggans. While not known for their piety, they sing very well and are also among the best dancers in the galaxy.

Their communist planet is ruled by a council consisting of 256 Grand Poobahs. In the interest of promptness, they have begun to issue new laws enforcing strict adherence of punctuality for people in the Northeast province of the largest parish.

Turtles are very common on this world, and they outnumber ferrets by one hundred thousand. This has become a major issue, prompting the use of tasers in an attempt to thoroughly squash their population. However, the members of the Fair and Righteous Treatment of Turtles (FARTT) have dedicated themselves to helping Turtles overcome this troublesome trend.

All in all, Glasbog is a nifty world with beautiful carnivores and a host of talented inhabitants. If only it could overcome that one little problem...​
