ORDER.jpg

England, 1889
Sunday, June 16th
London

Something stalked the dirty streets of the smoke-filled slums. Blood was spilt, dark, horrid, immeasurably terrible. Fear permeated the city of Muggles like a plague, smothering in its oppressing unknowability.

The Ministry stirred in its passivity, a monster disturbed by panicked ants. The scent of black, forbidden magic in the air overwhelmed even the stinks of piss and human despair of the old town.

Two Aurors were set onto the trail of death and terror, hunting a creature out of nightmare. Where will this path take them?

The Ministry of Magic

Britain's Ministry of Magic, the absolute authority of Britain's secret magical community, was a game board on which the most powerful Pureblood families snap at each others like dogs and scramble for scraps of power. The Minister of Magic Faris "Spout-Hole" Spavin was a beloved public figure and one of the longest Minister to be in office, yet could only command efficiently a limited number of loyal wizards. The rest belonged to the families.

The Ministry of Magic was fragmented. Loyalty to the Ministry itself was far and few between, most being parts of factions held together either by blood, common benefit or the right price. The Auror Office, the secret police of Britain's magical community was far less a functioning force and more a group of mercenaries licensed to kill.

The Ministry held the authority, but all knew who hoarded all the power.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was the indisputably greatest school of Britain's magical community. Its attendance were consisted exclusively of elites, wizards and witches from the most renown and prominent bloodlines of the country. Being a Hogwarts graduate was a guaranteed future of powerful families recruitment, or at least always a significant position within the Ministry.

Durmstrang Insitute

Durmstrang Institute was the Scandinavian wizarding school. Located in the northernmost regions of either Norway or Sweden, the school is willing to accept international students as far afield as Bulgaria. Unlike the wizarding community at large who held the study of the Dark Arts under a thin veil of secrecy, Durmstrang openly involved the Art as part of its official curriculum, familiarizing its student early to the darker side of their abilities.

Durmstrang was steadfast in its principles of blood purity, rejecting and looking down upon Muggle-borns.

Very few children of Britain's magical community attended Durmstrang as the cultural differences were immense, and England's families held their Scandinavian counterpart in contempt, a centuries old stigma that marked those of Scandinavian descend, and even partially extent to those who attended the Scandinavian Insitute, to be uncivilized savages with no culture and distasteful manner.

Jack the Ripper
With greater anatomical understanding and the introduction of anaesthetics medical advancement was great in the 19th century. It introduced a great range of possibilities in regards to medical treatment, but above all it opened new doors for the sciences.

With muggles gaining better understanding of their anatomy the wizarding world wasn’t left alone. While the fashion of witch hunting had greatly died down the wizards and muggles were still greatly divided, even more so under the rule of Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Empress of India Victoria. The warlocks hadn’t forgotten the ruthless prosecution of their kind and most certainly hadn’t forgiven.

However, where some tried to reconcile the two worlds others were adamant in keeping them separated and to point out all the differences between one another. Urban legends suggested that muggleborns gained their magical powers by sucking it out of the purebred wizards, thus creating the existence of squibs. Other myths described in detail that muggles had an extra organ which could be used for potion making, and that especially the muggleborns had useful qualities in reducing magical effects for their ‘parasite’-like nature. Theories without any scientific base, but they were enough to fuel dangerous ideas.

Jack the Ripper, also known as; Leather Apron or The Whitechapel Murderer, was believed to be one such deranged believer. Attacking prostitutes and ripping out their organs from the nether regions with meticulous accuracy, many pureblood families cheered the attacker on. They believed the attacker to be a warlock like them, a brave soul who had finally stepped out of the shadows to bring the evidence no one had been able to deliver so far. However, as the attacks started to become more vicious and even extended themselves to fellow wizards panic started to rise. The Ministry had to act and not wanting to seem too flippant two aurors were flung at the case.

  • Name: Sebastian Travers
    Age: 36
    Gender: Male
    House: Travers
    Identity: Pureblooded Wizard

Wand: Tough Blackthorn wood, 12 and a half inches, Veela hair core

    Patronus: Lynx

Appearance: Standing at 5'11" (180cm), Sebastian Travers is not an imposing or commanding figure, instead radiating an aura of absentminded intensity and reserved anger.

His eyes, a piercing grey the colour of a stormy sky, along with his light brown hair shows a striking contrast with the soft cheekbones and jaw that betrayed hints of a noble ancestry.

A fleeting mocking smile constantly haunts the corner of his lips, just as his fingers had the tendency to twirl his wand in quick jerking movements as if having a mind of their own each time he was distracted.

Sebastian is never the one for a proper dressing code, disregarding them not out of contempt but habit and indifference, making him exceedingly out of place amongst those of his social ranking, and completely set him apart socially and physically.

  • Sebastian Travers was the son of William Travers, a pureblooded wizard from one of the highest profile families in Britain, and Alena Bram, a witch of mixed Romanian and Scandinavian heritage. But of course, no matter how exclusive one's upbringing was, who they were could not be changed. William Travers was a spineless swine who did nothing else but bowing and scraping to anyone in power. Eventually, his mother grew so sick and tired of his cowardice that she took Sebastian and came to Sweden, where he attended Durmstrang.

So it was that Sebastian lived one part of his heritage and completely abandoned another, until the very moment his mother died in a magical experiment. He detested Britain but returned all the same for he at least had something left there.

He was nothing like them, these pompous aristocrat who aimed their nose at the sky and breathed contempt with every breath. The only reason they did not forcefully remove him was his last name.

Him becoming an Auror was a long process of excruciating socializing and jostling others out of his way with sometime more than words. But at least here, in this rotten, dark, wraith-filled nightmare of a city, he had a purpose.

Adelaide Rosier
The Rosier family is a powerful pure-blood family originating from France. Placing special importance on the subject of blood purity they put much of their influence into advocating the expulsion of muggleborns and other creatures from the magical world.
Adelaide always rather paled in comparison to the rest of her siblings. All known to have high ambitions her eldest brother went on to become the undersecretary of one of the departments of the Ministry of Magic, her sister had forged herself a successful marriage with a powerful pureblood and also acquired herself a place within the high society of the purebloods. Places meant for a Rosier. Expectations were high for Adelaide, especially with her siblings soaring so high.

Yet, she never managed. Her mother blamed her temper, hotheaded as she was and as crass as she could be. The fine manners of a lady were often lost on Adelaide once her emotions took hold of her. Her father blamed it on her lack of discipline, finding that they had spoiled and coddled her too much as a child resulting in a cold shoulder in the present days. Her grandmother said it was a lack of direction and that may have been the truth and root of all. Adelaide did lack a proper direction and focus.

Fierce determination she had enough. Charm a little less, but Adelaide had the wits and the talents needed. She just didn't know where to pour it in, thus spending her time doing a little bit of everything and never really acknowledged for one. There was only one thing no one could deny to be her, her deep loyalty to family and her infamous temper had brought her a name of either ridicule or fear. Some thought her hysterical, able to snap and take offense at the littlest things. Others thought her temper to be fearsome, as she is well-known as a capable duelist.

It was her spell-work that landed her a place in the Ministry of Magic as an Auror. Though not as prominent compared to her siblings and her mother frequently complained saying that she had prefered Adelaide to take on a safer career Adelaide felt perfectly at place. Her father found peace with it, glad that she had at least found herself a position of reasonable respect and believing that it would calm her tempers as she would lose her energy in work. Nothing was less true, however and Adelaide soon came to known as a notoriously difficult partner to work with. On her first day on the job she already had criticism for their head and soon enough she had earned herself the nickname of 'little-miss-perfect', none of it positively meant. It is one of the reasons why she had been held up with the odd jobs that required no partner and were far distances away.
Information: 26 y/o, pureblood witch. Born: June 16 to the house of Rosier. Sorted in Ravenclaw when in attendance of Hogwarts. Wand: Unyielding 11 inches Yew with a core of Dragon heartstring Patronus: Horse.
