Within These Walls is a new medieval-themed multi-chapter fantasy roleplay with darker themes. The story features elements of magic, dragons, and a detailed plot. The roleplay will be guided, but players are welcome to create their own side-stories and subplots.

The Plot:
A relationship between humans and dragons has long since been forgotten. Since the beginning of time, mankind has envied the dragons for their magical ability. The dragons kept order, acting as guardians for the human race, but many humans saw it as oppression.

When the cursed blood magic was discovered and wielded against the dragons, they cried out in anguish. Because it required self-sacrifice, being powered by one's own blood, the dragons could not best it. They were forced out into the edges of the known land, though the price was high for mankind. Many blood magic-wielding mages perished for their use of the cursed magic, casting spells that simply drew too much of their own blood.

Only a decade later, mankind discovered the means to harvest blood from other humans in order to power their mages. They created terrible machines known as Harvesters, and the blood they collected was used to create a magical wall which sealed the human kingdom off from the dragons once and for all. They could never return so long as the wall remained powered by blood magic.

You are a peasant, the lowest class in the human kingdom Kovanyth, formed after the defeat of the dragons. You are told from birth by the nobles, mages, and priests that it is a peasant's duty to sacrifice their life and their blood for the safety of the kingdom. Most of those within your class don't live beyond 40 years, for once they stop bearing children, they are harvested. A ceremony happens twice a year in which the mages and priests come to town for the Harvest. Those who attempt to hide or flee are simply killed by the kingdom's knights. Every year you can only pray your name isn't called.

You live in the town of Iyesgarth, under the jurisdiction of the noble family Morethall. The first Harvest of the year is fast approaching, and seeing the sullen and hopeless looks of the older peasants, you can't help but wonder if this really is for the good of the kingdom.

But you'd better be careful with your words, because those who ask dangerous questions end up in a Harvester.
