the first day

Ace Kirk Thomas

When he had received the phone call, Ace had nearly dropped the phone out of shock. A real tour. It was unbelievable that his band had actually gotten recognized and that they would be traveling the country, maybe one day they'd even travel the world. Through the years, Ace had come to see his bandmates as family, and he was grateful to have them as such. Freddie, the drummer and co-founder, had been a best friend to him for years and though Ace had only met his sister a few times, she seemed cool too.

The drive to Freddie's flat seemed to take forever, even though he didn't live that far away. The music that played over the speakers in his car seemed to drown out the world, though Ace stayed aware while driving. When he was packing he had gone over his stuff at least ten times, just to make sure he had everything, but even then he still felt nervous. Ace didn't let it show and we was stoic as ever. As he pulled into a parking space, he sighed and shut the car off.

Ace, or Kirk as he preferred to be called, stood outside the door to Freddie's flat. Ace played lead guitar for their band, Steel Feathers, and Freddie was the drummer who had founded the band alongside him. They had been friends for quite a while before founding their band, but had grown exceptionally close once they had. Ace considered him a true friend, and it showed through how well they synergized and commanded the stage.

Ace's chest tightened as he thought about the events to come, they had finally made it to the big leagues and were going on a real tour. Part of him was nervous, another part excited, and it formed knots in his stomach. He breathed out heavily and knocked on the door in front of him. His car chirped as hit locked it, which was probably pointless seeing as how he would need to unload all of his gear anyway. In a few hours they would be heading out to begin their tour, and there was little time to waste.

Freddie answered to the door quickly and the two greeted each other as good friends do. They exchanged small talk as Ace entered the flat and removed his jacket, the tension that had been making him nervous now faded as he was overcome with excitement for the upcoming day.

"Man, I can't believe it's really happening. A real tour. This is nothing like the shows we've played, this is it." His voice was light, and medium pitch and it was followed by a contagious laugh.

The rest of the band would most likely be arriving soon and they would plan out how they would all be getting to the bus. Though he hadn't seen it yet, he was told that the bus was fairly nice and roomy enough for plenty of people. Ace had never lived on a bus before but was still excited for the experience.

As the rest of the band arrived, everyone exchanged greetings and sentiments about their tour. Plans were made that everyone would be sharing a ride but Ace would take most of the equipment in his car, which he didn't mind at all. As everyone was transferring equipment into Ace's car, Freddie announced that he had news about the tour which caused another knot to form in Ace's stomach.
