WINTER'S BELL

  • Welcome to Winter's Bell! This lovely little town is more of a close-knit, budding community of friends, family and, occasionally, visitors. Blah, blah, typical intro stuff. There's only three of, so I think this is fine.

    IC thread is here!
  • This is the tab for listing holidays, festivals, competitions and so on in Winter's Bell. I imagine there are 60 days per season. The general dates will work like they do in the games: Fall 27, Winter 2, and so on.

    SPRING 14 - LOVER'S FESTIVAL
    A holiday for lovers. Husbands and wives (or significant others) celebrate their love for one another. This is also a popular date for new romances to begin.

    SPRING 30 - ANIMAL FESTIVAL
    A holiday to celebrate animals! Townsfolk pamper their pets and livestock.

    SPRING 47 - LUCK DAY
    A holiday to encourage luck. People take (reasonable) risks on this day.

    SPRING 60 - GODDESS FESTIVAL
    A holiday for the Goddess. People bring meals to the town square during the evening and celebrate together, giving thanks for a wonderful spring.

    SUMMER 4 - FOUNDER'S FESTIVAL
    A holiday to celebrate the founding of Winter's Bell. The mayor makes a speech and there's a town-wide luncheon.

    SUMMER 30 - SUMMER FESTIVAL
    A holiday to celebrate summer! Common activities include a beachside party, socializing, and nighttime stargazing.

    SUMMER 37 - PARENTS' DAY
    A holiday to honor your parents.

    FALL 31 - FEAR FESTIVAL
    A holiday of fear. Residents dress up in costumes, hand out candy to children, and have fun scaring each other.

    FALL 48 - HARVEST FESTIVAL
    A holiday of gratitude, eating and joy. Family and friends gather together to reap the benefits of a healthy harvest and eat large, extravagant meals.

    WINTER 25 - WINTER FESTIVAL
    A holiday of merriment. Residents give gifts to their friends and loved ones, feast together, and sing songs to the Harvest Goddess to pray for a bountiful spring.

    WINTER 60 - NEW YEAR'S BALL
    A holiday celebrating the new year. A party lasts all night, including fireworks when midnight passes. Formal attire required.

  • This is where the fun begins. Here is a list of roles we need filled -- whether they're main characters or just background characters, we should probably make sure everyone is accounted for!

    NPC's are listed below. NPC's are defined as characters that anyone can play, should the situation call for it. Some are romance options and will be considered for full-time play by one person if the need arises.

    All NPC dialogue will be colored at #F7DA64. When a character becomes a regular in the lineup, they'll get a new color.

  • Let's get some locations named and stuff.

    • FARMHOUSE - Where the farmer lives.
    • LIBRARY - Near the schoolhouse.
    • TAILOR'S SHOP - Where the tailor works and lives. Below is the shop, and the second floor is a neat, tiny apartment. Right across from the General Store.
    • GENERAL STORE - On main street.
    • BLACKSMITH'S SHOP - A small forge with an apartment in the back. On the outskirts of town, near the forest.
    • TOWN SQUARE -
    • BELL FOREST -
    • FOREST HOUSE - Where Sander lives.
    • SCHOOLHOUSE - A large schoolhouse that can seat twenty children. Near Town Square.
    • POST OFFICE -
    • GERHARDT RANCH & MANSION -
    • FLOWERSHOP - Nextdoor to the tailor shop.

Ruby Rycroft
Lesbian | Female | Farmer
Age: 31 | Height: 5’7’’ | Weight: 135 lbs

Personality:
Ruby is loud, excitable and, much to the disdain of the quieter folk in town, rowdy. Born and raised on the farm all her life, she’s a real go-getter with a seemingly unending amount of energy. Competition and rough-housing seem to be in her blood. Though she can be a bit much to handle, she’s earnest, honest and above all, passionate about just about everything and anything. Her 11 year old son Miles, the farm and her dog, Pancake, are the things she loves most in this world and she will most definitely shower you with ridiculous amounts of information concerning the three should you accidentally lend her your ear.

History:
The Rycroft family has owned a farm in Winter’s Bell since what seems like the founding of the village. Ruby, being the only one proud enough of that history amongst four older brothers, was quick to take to the idea that she wanted to take over the farm once she grew older. Of course, her siblings moved away and her parents, Sophie and Oskar Rycroft, begun their retirement shortly after Ruby took over. Her best friend, Ryan, became her farmhand and shortly after? Her husband. Their son, Miles, was born shortly after. After 4 years of marriage, however, it started to become clear that their love hadn’t really been of the romantic kind. Of course, they separated on good terms after Ruby’s realization that men weren’t really her thing after all.

Likes: hard liquor, most foods, lemonade, umbrellas, daffodils, hair ties
Dislikes: celery, wine, frilly or lacy things, puzzles

Amber Becker
26 || Female || Bisexual
5''9 || 132lbs

Baker

Amber's family have been baking for the populace of Winter's Bell for several generations. Growing up listening to punk rock and heavy metal, Amber couldn't wait to grow up, get out of the small town and out into the big city. At 17 she was quickly humbled out in the 'real world', and returned home within a year of leaving. While she'd worked in her parents shop throughout her teenage years, she'd never truly appreciated it. This changed when she returned, and it turned out that when she put her mind to it, Amber was really quite a talented baker. She brought her experiences of the baked goods in the big city, and used them to update and improve the bakery. She took over the bakery full time two years ago, and has been moving from strength to strength ever since. Amber remains one of Winter Bell's more unusual characters - but wouldn't trade her home town for the world now.

Once rude and a little abrasive, Amber is usually quite quiet and reserved, although she makes an effort to be friendly to her customers and fellow townsfolk. She makes a point of making sure nobody in town has to go hungry, and makes sure that anything left over gets to somewhere where it needs to be. She has a passion for her craft, uses only the finest local ingredients, and makes a point of keeping up to date with trends so Winter's Bell doesn't get left behind -- at least in their range of pastries.

Likes: Coffee, Recipe Books, Unusual Ingredients, Puzzles, Candles, Chocolate

Dislikes: Boxed cake mix, beetroot, fish, mushrooms

Soojin Park
24 || Female || Pansexual
5'2'' || 120lbs
Tailor
Soojin is one of the newer residents of Winter's Bell. Having moved there only six months past, she has yet to fully acclimate, her shy and introverted nature making her one of the town commodities. Not in a bad way, of course. She has never felt mistreated by anyone; on the contrary, she enjoys the people of Winter's Bell and plans to stay and make a life for herself. But she isn't sure how. Raised in a very strict household, her social growth was stunted, and she isn't good with people. Too polite, too formal, never personal enough to gain friends. Soojin had to make peace long ago with her loneliness.

Despite her social faults, she is an incredible tailor. She can make anything from elaborate princess ball gowns to simple farmer's garb. She can alter anything brought to her, and gives as fair a price as she can afford, which says a lot considering her modest lifestyle. She rarely goes to festivals and spends her free time in the woods, sketching new ideas and feeding birds. She owns a tuxedo cat named Misty.

Likes:
flowers, lace, good quality fabric, sweets and pastries, traditional music, perfume

Dislikes:
bad quality fabric, lavender scents, spicy tea

rp.hua.jpg
Hua Jiang
Bisexual | Female | Librarian
Age: 21 | Height: 5’4’’ | Weight: 122 lbs.

Personality:
A gentle but disciplined soul, Hua is soft yet firm at the same time. She’s the motherly type, calm and friendly, definitely far easier to talk to than her brother. Organized and ever so punctual, Hua is responsible bordering on strict. She can be a bit harsh on people when her expectations aren’t met and has a bad habit of getting sucked into the numbers of gambling, but she tries her best to watch her behaviour. Whether her dutiful eye is helpful or not when pointed at herself is another story altogether. Hua is basically a walking encyclopedia of obscure facts that she is more than willing to share. When she’s not soaking up random information, she’s playing violin or tending to her micro herbs. She has a pet parrotlet named Pachelbel.

History:
Born with a malformed right arm, the first thing to ever happen in Hua's life was the amputation of that limb. Then came the rest. Hua and Jin are two siblings out of six, born to a couple that thought little of their expenses when family planning. Of course, their family fell apart quite quickly due to child services swooping in. Six children was too much for anyone to take in at once, so in pairs, the Jiang children were adopted. It didn’t take long for them to leave their adoptive family, however. It wasn’t as if they hadn’t had a good relationship with them, it was simply personal matters. Hua had never liked the big city, so with her brother in tow, they moved to Winter’s Bell. As newer residents, they’ve only been in town for about a year now, but Hua is doing her best to ensure her brother doesn’t make too much of a mess.

Likes: tea, sheet music, flowers, playing cards, herb seeds, candles, books
Dislikes: sour things, onions, jewelry, coffee, leather

Theodore Ivankov ‘Theo’
Bisexual (male preference) | Male | Biomedical Engineer
Age: 29 | Height: 6’1’’ | Weight: 160 lbs.

Personality:
Theo is perhaps the opposite of what you’d want in a doctor. Though he’s clear, concise and always efficient with his work, empathy isn’t exactly his forte. Emotions are too hard to convey for him. Being gentle is embarrassing, being too openly pleased is embarrassing… So what does he do to cope? Be mad. Be apathetic. He’s about as ornery as a shut-in old man and bad language seems to be a part of his normal vocabulary. On the less abrasive side, he’s quiet and inquisitive, loving math puzzles and horror novels. If anything, he’s socially awkward when he actually cares about others opinions: social cues just… Don’t come easy to him.

History:
Theo had always been a bright kid when it came to book smarts. In the city a few hours off from Winter’s Bell, he was born to Aysa and Dmitri Ivankov. He was pushed up multiple grades, graduating high school at the tender age of 14. University came soon after and by the age of 21, he’d finished both his BA and Masters in biomedical engineering. A certain event happened a few years after he’d been working in the city though, leaving him with the decision to eventually move to Winter’s Bell, where his grandfather owned a clinic. Though he isn’t exactly a doctor, he has taken over most of the operations due to his grandfather’s old age. With his knowledge in biomedicine, he has been practicing in Winter’s Bell for the past four years.

Likes: novels, sudoku/kenken books, pillows, spicy food, notepads, fountain pens
Dislikes: sweets, alcohol, stuffed animals, decorative ornaments

Cameron "Cam" Elliot
30 || Male || Bisexual
6'4'' || 240lbs
Blacksmith
Cam is one of the favorite townspeople of Winter's Bell. He is quiet, reserved and soft-spoken, but he remains one of the most hardworking and helpful individuals to have ever stepped foot in the small town. Though his official profession is blacksmithing, he operates more as the local handyman, working as a plumber, electrician, and mechanic as well. A man of many trades. Never once has he complained and rarely does he ask for money as payment for his services, and as a result, the people of the town like to bring him meals as he has a hard time remembering to cook and eat. (Not that he's any good at cooking, anyway.)

Cam's backstory is a somewhat simple one. He was adopted at a young age by white parents who loved and took care of him, but at eighteen, he knew he needed to rediscover his identity after a childhood of mixed feelings. He left for the big city, where he went to trade school, but found all the noise too distracting. He moved to Winter's Bell at 22 and has lived there ever since, never once having a significant other. Residents of Winter's Bell have made it a bit of a mission to find him a spouse. Matchmaking for Cam is a sport among the elderly.

Likes:
metals he can work with, good food, gemstones (which he collects), GOOD FOOD

Dislikes:
nothing really? He'll take literally anything with a smile and gratitude.

Mary Hernandez
26 || Female || Pansexual
5'6'' || 145lbs.
Teacher
Mary, Mary, Mary. Everyone loves her. Often called "sunshine" by the older residents, she graces everyone she meets with that signature smile. Positivity and love are her passions. She teaches this to her students, and it is because of this that they all respect her and respond enthusiastically to her lessons. She has a charitable heart and a golden soul. Many believe that she is too good to be kept within the limits of Winter's Bell, but the truth is, there's nowhere else she'd rather be.

Mary's childhood was tragic. This is not something anyone knows; she is so happy that no one thinks to ask. Her mother committed suicide and her father drank himself to an early grave. She suffered both physical and sexual abuse from family members growing up. She spent her early adulthood in and out of mental facilities for depression treatment. Eventually, she found healing, and chooses to lead her life with purpose to the best of her ability. This does not mean she is without setbacks, however. When she feels the sadness creeping in, she merely closes school for the day and retreats in solitude. Where? No one knows.

Likes:
anything with a positive message, tea and coffee, handwritten cards

Dislikes:
gaudy jewelry, any and all alcohol

Sunny Jacobsen
19 || Female || Straight
5'4'' || 130lbs
Waitress (NPC, romance available)
Sunny is a universal friend. She's positive and bubbly and always willing to help those in need. Her grandparents, Don and Wanda Jacobsen, own and run the restaurant where she works. Her relationship with them is top-notch. An all-around gem of a girl, though she can be ditzy.

Likes:
flowers, anything sparkly, well-cooked food, dresses, jewelry

Dislikes:
alcohol, puzzles, difficult books

Isaac Becker
29 || Male || Bisexual
6''2 || 170 lbs

Grocer

Isaac is the adopted son of John Becker, Amber's uncle, making him a first cousin of the local baker. He grew up away from Winter's Bell, returning with his parents for the occasional holiday. Several years ago he ran into his cousin in the big city, and they got back in touch. A week long visit about five years ago turned into a much longer stay. In fact, he's made Winter's Bell his home, taking over the local store and turning it around. He buys and sells all kinds of local produce and crafts, materials the towns folk might need, as well as some specialist items - all at quite reasonable prices.

Issac is outgoing and highly sociable, and since moving to Winter's Bell, usually can be found with a grin on his face. He's a charmer and a bit of a flirt - he flatters the older residents who pop in to his store, and knows just how much to tease the younger folk. He throws himself into community events where he can, including helping to organize some of the festivals.

Likes:
Books, cakes, tea, good booze, anything handmade - that isn't woolen

Dislikes:
Pickled veg, coffee, wool,

Don and Wanda Jacobsen
74 & 67 || Male and Female || Straight
6'0'' & 5'9'' || 190lbs & 150lbs
Restaurant owners (NPC, romance unavailable)
Don and Wanda were both born and raised in Winter's Bell, having never moved away. They fell in love in high school and never looked back. They are loving, peaceful people who run a clean restaurant with delicious food from all cultures. Don is the chef, and Wanda runs the business. Their two children moved away, choosing city over country living, but they've been blessed with a beautiful granddaughter who is eager to learn their trade and continue the family business.
Likes:
anything (but Wanda is allergic to peanuts!)

Dislikes:
poorly-cooked food, joke gifts

Máire O'Shea
25 || Female || Bisexual, leaning towards women? She's not entirely sure herself.
5''5 || 130 lbs

Carpenter

Máire arrived in Winter's Bell about 9 years ago as an apprentice to the local carpenter, a distant relative of hers. He had been expecting a boy several years older, but her work ethic and stubbornness resulted in her staying on. She gave vague, gruff answers when asked about her past, or her family. She was good with wood, and she was stronger than she looked - that's all anyone needed to know. In the years since, she's not opened up a huge amount, although she does make a semi-regular appearance at the local bar and attends the festivals. She took over the manual work from her mentor about three years ago, and inherited the business last year when he passed away, along with their dog, Spot. Most of her day to day is taken up crafting furniture, and any odd jobs that Cameron Elliot isn't available or suited for, but the construction of buildings and house renovations usually falls under her jurisdiction too.

Máire is cordial and polite to her customers, and to people she meets, but any deeper attempts to get to know her are usually deflected. She seems to prefer her own company. She's not an emotional person, at least, not that anyone has seen. She smiles sometimes at the festivals, gets annoyed when people don't pay on time, and cried quietly at her mentor's funeral. Stoic seems to be her middle name.

Likes:
Wood, Cake, Whiskey.

Dislikes:
Wine, anything floaty, shimmery or sparkling.

Emrys Jernigan
Emrys Ambrose Jernigan

Demisexual | Male | Florist
20 | 6'0 feet | 146 lbs

Personality: A quiet romantic, a clumsy person, an awkward fellow. That is how the village sees Emrys at large and how he might come across at a first glance. His selective mutism doesn't help improve his social image either. Awkward and uncomfortable in any social situation the male tries hard to avoid getting himself involved as speaking is quite unfortunately his greatest phobia. The fact that he finds little understanding from his surroundings and that his family runs the local flower-shop doesn't exactly help him live the life he wants. However, strangely enough his lack of speech somehow gives extra charm to the flowers sold romanticised along with his unbeaten knowledge in floriography. It is too unfortunate however that his image really doesn't come anywhere close to his actual character.

History: The beginning of Emrys Ambrose Jernigan is a rather sad tale. He was born too early into a relationship of two young souls. Two young souls that had been impulsive and were quite frankly still children themselves. It brought an abrupt end to all sorts of dreams and goals the young parents had. It was enough for a man who had once loved to turn bitter and for a new mother to feel like she had lost her life. It led to more impulsive choices and with poor maintenance and control the young Jernigan family found themselves in poverty, three kids in and debts larger than the hope that was left. It was what prompted the family to move to Winter's Bell, hoping for a new beginning and a clean slate. However, the years before had already marked the family and their relationships, including the oldest Emrys who had slowly but surely grown into his own shell.

Likes: Books, music, languages, fossils, rocks, minerals and gems
Dislikes: Flowers

Edith Gerhardt
Edith Jillian Gerhardt

Bisexual | Female | Animal Vendor
27 | 5'7 feet | 127 lbs

Personality: To put it into plain words: Edith is a bitch. A rock hard business woman that takes no nonsense and won’t let herself be walked over. A trait much needed in her trade and frequent travels. Always on the move and always in a flurry. People say that Edith is like breeze, entering in and out of a life, but one that never fails to leave an impression. Straightforward and perfectionistic, there is no beat that Edith misses as she marches on. Despite her hard exterior the woman has a surprisingly soft side when it involves animals, having grown up surrounded by all sorts of animals.

History: The Gerhardt family is so to say one of the founding families of the village and also the richest. Having started as farmers themselves they soon got into the animal trade before abandoning the hard labour of a farmer’s existence entirely to enter the business. Within such a family Edith was born, a golden spoon in her mouth right from the start. Born to reach higher, born to be the top. It was only fate that Edith would take over the family business eventually, practically bred for it. However, she spent her years of education in the city, where better quality could be found and a wilder life was lived, thus becoming estranged to the village. When Edith finally came back all she saw was a slump, a ruddy place with no class. It set for a bad first impression as the villagers saw a pompous young lady, pampered, spoiled and unused to harsh and pure labour. As such the rift between Edith and Winter’s Bell only became greater.

Likes: Anything of quality is appreciated
Dislikes: Sweets and child toys

Lysander ‘Sander’ Sudworth

Heterosexual | Male | Wizard
Forgotten | 5’8 | 130 lbs

Personality: Sander, as he likes to be called today, is a man of mystery and contradictions. He keeps to himself, yet yearns for company, he claims to be unafraid, as he has transcended beyond life, yet he fears a bond the most. At the same time Sander doesn’t wish for anyone to find out about his predicament, yet he desires to retell the many tales and lives he lived through. Sander is a cryptic man with too much wisdom and life within and with too much time on hands that he doesn’t know what to do with anymore. A man that speaks wearily and long, but claims to be of few words. A man that was once like any other and so full of stories that none know what to believe. A stranger in the village that seems to not belong in their time, yet here he is fascinated by everything that time has brought along as if he sees them for the first time. He fits in smoothly, yet he doesn’t fit and it draws as well chases his company.

History: Once Sander had been known as Lysander, a man of great ambitions and intellect. A man who would stop at nothing and uncovered every secret there was. He travelled the world and sought every corner. He was celebrated and cursed at the same time, for he poked his nose everywhere wanted and unwanted. How he encountered magic he has long forgotten, how he had become immortal even more so. However, Winter’s Bell seems to cross familiar and Sander wonders, perhaps his story, the one he forgot along with his end could be found here? The wizard certainly felt confident once he set foot in the village. The voice he had long forgotten swelled within him once more, unravelling the secrets he had buried so long ago and forgotten.

Likes: Anything new and ‘hip’, technology
Dislikes: Anything that keeps the time

Suria Bello
Pansexual | Female | Winery Owner
Age: 27 | Height: 5’11’’ | Weight: 166 lbs.

NPC, romance available
Suria is perhaps one of the more… Eccentric people living out in the countryside that is Winter’s Bell. Bold, brash and apparently incapable of feeling shame, she’s well-known for her antics around town, whether it be holding spontaneous drinking competitions or dyeing her hair every day of the week. No one quite knows what she'd doing here, since she seems much more suited for city living, but hey, she seems to be living every day to the fullest, at least.

Likes: fancy alcohol, spicy food, unique clothing, chunky jewelry, hair dye, coffee
Dislikes: stationery, sweaters, tea, bland things

Seth Thomas
38 || Male (FtM transgender) || Straight
5'10'' || 200lbs
Mailman (NPC, romance unavailable)
Though Seth's official job is to act as the town mailman, he unofficially doubles as Winter's Bell's comedian. He is full of jokes. Anyone who has met Seth has dealt with awful puns, hilarious one-liners and aged knock-knock jokes. He strives to put a smile on the face of everyone he meets. He never ceases to provide comic relief whenever necessary (or unnecessary), and will do anything to put a smile on someone's face. He began his transition at age 22, shortly after meeting his girlfriend, now-wife, Sarah. He lives in town with his wife and three young children.
Likes:
beer, nachos, burgers, toys for his two dogs (and kids), joke gifts

Dislikes:
fancy wine from places he can't pronounce, herbs, tea

Mio De Luca
Asexual Biromantic | Male | Priest
Age: 22 | Height: 5’4’’ | Weight: 115 lbs.

NPC, romance available
Soft spoken and gentle, Mio is perhaps one of the most non-offensive beings you will ever come across. His pace in life seems a bit leisurely more than anything and his lack of knowledge concerning technology might be a bit off-putting (he loves his flip phone, however), but when it comes to his worship for the Harvest Goddess, he is always disciplined. He is severely deaf, but has hearing aids in usually to be able to communicate better. There are times when he avoids them though, due to migraines. He understands that not everyone can use ASL, thus he attempts to communicate orally most of the time.

Likes: tea, flowers, cellphone charms, sparkly things, anything related to cats, incense
Dislikes: alcohol, raw fish, nuts, bugs, woolen things

August Fairfield
Straight | Male | Mayor
Age: 72 | Height: 5’7’’ | Weight: 140 lbs.

NPC, romance unavailable

Mr. Fairfield is a gentle old man. He’s jovial and friendly with everyone around town and though he can be a bit forgetful, he does his best for the people of Winter’s Bell. He’s an expert on classical music and the amount of instruments he can play can be counted on both hands. Typically, during events, he will play music for the venue alongside his typical speech responsibilities. His wife, Anastasia, died of cancer many years ago, so he lives alone, as they had no children.

Likes: fountain pens, fresh veggies, hot cocoa, instruments
Dislikes: nothing comes to mind!
