Will This Create Peace?

Vasily looked at the girl and shook his head lightly. "no, I don't think so." Replied him. "We were sent here to patrol this sector... Not sure from what from, to be honest." Said him with a chuckle. "Anyway, it would ease the men if you could say us who you are and what exactly where you doing here. We didn't expected to find anyone in the elevator." Said Vasily friend. "Well... Didn't expected to find anyone in the first place!" Exclaimed him

The extraction went without a hitch. The Strike Squads took over the choke point easily. Baxter departed for the elevator rearmed.

Approaching the elevator cautiously, Baxter spotted a few unidentified, armed soldiers. He hit the deck to scout the unknowns. No data he could pull up from his smartphone. He would have to engage them carefully. Luckily, the squad he had guarding him would count for leverage. Emerging from the foliage, he and his guard approached the troops, lining up their sights in case of hostilities. "You there, you're in EU operation space, state your business," he called out, his gun focused on the tall one with a lot of explosives in his pouches. "IF you do not cooperate and comply, I will be forced to arrest you. If you resist arrest, the squad will be forced to engage."

She nodded. "Well, first, I'm Kate. And I was told to go up to meet someone, who was supposed to meet me at the top, that's all I know. Something about being recruited to the F.E. or something." She heard something and turned around, there was a man, speaking about someone being arrested. She stood silently behind Vasily, not understanding.

Vasily looked at the girl for a second and then back to his friend. "Mmmm... F.E.? Are those the bad guys or the good ones?" Muttered him. "I'm... No longer sure." Replied him. And then people began to appear, yelling stuff and aiming weapons. "Hey, Hey! Easy there, pal!" Said Vasily friend, who was quite versed in the use of the word. "Not looking for problems here, alright?" Said him, still no one was lowering his weapons. "P.M.C. We were designated here to patrol the area and make sure the elevator is safe." Said Vasily friend. "What about you? I take it you guys are with the European Union?"

Friendlies. Well, you could never tell with PMCs, really, but for now, they seemed like non-hostiles. "Mercs, huh? You'll beg my pardon when I don't trust you too much, then," Baxter said, lowering his weapon peacefully, but still prepared to shoot if necessary. "As for your question, that's an affirmative. We are soldiers of the EU. I'm an Espionage and Assassination specialist, but my official role is Sharpshooter-slash-Scout Sniper. We're pulling off an infiltration. AKG's got the lift under their thumb. They've got men in the ring to use it as leverage. We're here to take it back."

Some assistance for the strike force would benefit the EU, so Baxter let his weapon down to dangle from the strap and stretched out his hand. "Anything helps. I can secure you advisory status in the EU if you help us out. That, of course, comes with some perks, which you might find useful in your line of work."

Kate glanced between Vasily and the man. Easy enough...but I thought the organizations worked together?..why didn't he recognize them? She thought to herself as they spoke.

Everybody lowered their guns, and even if some of the men were still on edge, it seemed now that they were not going to jump at each other throats right away. "What are we supposed to do?" Muttered some of the soldiers. "Well, helping them isn't precisely inside our mission parameters." replied some others. "Yeah? And what is inside our 'mission parameters' then?" Replied the jumpy one. "Maybe..." One of the soldiers looked at the E.U. troops and then back to the soldiers. "Maybe Cen knew about this? Maybe that's why we were here to patrol this area?" Wondered him quietly.

While everybody hushed their thoughts, Vasily rose one of his hands in the air as he looked at the E.U. troops. Quite impressive a man could move that whole armor with that ease. "Don't worry. It will just be a minute." Said him in his strong accent, unable to make some fun of the whole situation. "Kate, right?" Asked Vasily looking at the girl. "I'm Vasily." Said him with a huge smile behind the thick helmet. "We should warn the captain." Said some soldier on the background. "That lazy old man sure is sleeping in some tent while the rest of us do the hard work." Replied some other soldier. "Call him anyway!" Ordered Vasily friend.

They seemed to be debating the proposition. Baxter supposed that was logical. He heard a few protests from his own troops as well.

"I think we might catch Hell for this, Kauffman. Recruiting unsolicited mercenaries?" Baxter turned back to speak with his troops like the Mercenaries were. "We're not recruiting them, we're enlisting their assistance for an operation. Advisory status isn't an employment opportunity, it simply states that an individual has helped the bloc from outside, and shall be lent limited assistance in the future. We may end up charging into battle alongside these mercs against a greater evil than AKG, or possibly even the AKG itself. Most people know how stupid it is to attack a power bloc, so we can count on these gentlemen never having to. We just hope for the best and perhaps our interests will continue to mingle."

That seemed like a good idea at the time, but if they happened to attack a power bloc, who knows what kind of shit Baxter may have gotten them into.

Kate nodded. "Yep. Nice to meet you Vasily." She glanced over at the other soldiers. She was uneasy being around so many soldiers. If there's a firefight, I'm going home. She told herself, knowing it would probably be fairly easy to slip from these soldiers' attention.

It took almost ten minutes of uncomfortable silence for the Captain to come to the area. Except for Vasily who spent that time talking with Kate about the place he was born. "Oh, and there are also bears. The biggest ones you have ever seen!" Exclaimed Vasily moving his arms like if the armor was made of paper. "What is the meaning of this!" said a old man appearing from the woods with a couple of other soldiers. "This guys are E.U.?" Asked the old captain to Vasily friend. "Yes, sir." Replied him.

After another ten minutes of explanation, Vasily friend finally explained the situation to the stubborn old man. "I'm in no position to give you any of my men." Said him, some of the men showing disapproval, some others nothing at all. "But if those A.K.G. bastards are where you say they are... Well, we better make sure they don get away with it." Said the captain. "I would go up there myself, but I can't leave, so take our 'tank'. We have no use for him down here right now." Stated the captain. Vasily looked around, still confused, not sure what he had been picked up for.

Kate nodded as Vasily spoke about bears. "Really? Cool..I haven't seen much of anything like that around here." She said. She stopped as someone came out. It took her a second to realise he was talking to Vasily, so she relaxed a little, still standing behind him, almost out of view. So many people..they seem to know each other, these two. At least they're not strangers like the others.. She thought, glancing back at the group that had confronted them at the elevator.

Judging by the seasoned newcomer's tone, he wasn't talking about armor, just a heavily armored man. Baxter's eyes darted to the most heavily armored man on the squad. "I see you mercs have your own brand of military order. Hell, you guys seem more paramilitary than mercenary." His full attention fell on the man in his gaze. He stepped forward to greet the bear of a man. "My codename is Kauffman. And you are?"

Kate thought about running. I could outrun them.. she thought, looking into the trees. I'm more adapted down here.. She shifted her center of balance as she thought.

Vasily scratched his helmet as he was scratching his head, still confused of what was going on and what were his orders besides: follow those guys. "Code-name? Oh, well, I not sure... But people like to call me Juggs." Said him smiling, pointing at some words in his armor. Juggs was written in white color, followed by a little face smiling with a helmet on. "Guess that is because i like hugging people!" Exclaimed him jokingly, letting out a couple of loud laughs. "So, what do I have signed up for?" Asked Vasily.

She watched the men talk, scanning each of them carefully. Juggs..huh. He's too weighed down with armor. Vasily, he might be fast enough. The others..I can't tell from here. She stepped towards the bushes to get a better view of Kauffman. Wouldn't care.. She took a deep, but quiet breath. I'll wait. She decided to herself, thinking it wouldn't be smart to run quite yet.

"Nice to meet you, Juggs. Your job is to stick with the strike squad. You'll be helping secure the exit, and if I get pinned down, I tell the commander of the squad to extract me. You're to follow them if that happens. Clear?" He made over to the chute and checked out the doors. "Should be operable. Everyone got hazmasks? We can perform a quick repair. Should keep the pressure out. Juggs, you got a hazmask?"

Kate glanced up. "Hazmask?" She gave him a questioning look.

"You civs might call it a gas mask. It's not the same thing, though. A Hazard Mask is more complex." Hazmasks were not classified tech, which is why Kauffman wouldn't be surprised if Juggs had one, being a mercenary. However, he knew that giving information to civilians was a good way to get court-martialed.

Kate nodded. "Okay." She watched everyone carefully, taking a small step back. Almost there.. She thought to herself.
