Jenis could have slapped her if she wasn't a woman and a princess at that. The lady looked danger right in its eyes and asked it politely for a favor! Then again, she may not have known of the severity of the situation. The Xorians and the Kalerins were not on good terms, not at all. And what with the King and Queen of Kalerin being too modest to raise up arms, the Xorian army clearly had the advantage. If Jenis was King, he'd chew the Council's throat out until they agreed to wage war on those wheat-lighting ruffians. Princess Ariana was clearly unaware of the discrepancies between the two lands and Jenis had no time to explain it to her. It was a very tough situation for him so he had to do the only thing he could and should do at the moment. His pocket ace.
Lie.
Jenis blinked once or twice at the Xorians and the bellowed a laugh from deep within his stomach. The leader was eyeing him questioningly while the other three kept their bows raised: 2 on him and one on the princess. The laughing went on but Jenis didn't want to oversell it. No, that would only get him in a lot of trouble. The laughing was as believable as he could make it, even while he had to listen to the annoyed whinnies from Mace somewhere behind him and not being able to tend to his poor friend's wounds. Still, Jenis kept the smirk up as he dabbed at his eye with his elbow.
"I wouldn't suggest it. I take it that you all are going to use me as some sort of ransom to stop the war or something. Eh, fine. But I suggest you take the misses along."he said, The leader straightened himself out and even stretched his legs to appear taller in size. It was true, Xorians were typically short.
"And why would we? I heard your marriage attempts are as pathetic as trying to mate a calf and a dove together. What measures did you take to claim this princess? Kidnapping?"
"Princess? Hardly." he scoffed, tossing his head to the side in a mock chuckle. "Does she look it? Oh don't answer rhetorical questions. No. Kidnapping is beneath me. In fact, this is my bride, and I would do nothing to harm her. Right, baby?" he cooed, grabbing her chin between his two fingers and smirking. He knew the colors of her rage were red, but they were already in a bad way. Might as well have some fun doing it. The leader coughed gruffly and pointed towards Jenis and Ariana who were still on the ground, wrapped in one another.
"One take the mare, the other two, keep them in check." Jenis's smile faded but he still stood up when one soldier aimed an arrow at the base of his neck while the other did the same for Ariana. The last and leader were trying to tame Mace. Jenis bent his lips close to her ear and sighed heavily.
"See what your insolence got us in? If you wouldve just agreed to come with me earlier, we wouldve had smooth sailings to Kalerin."
