Dryndlfyre
Elf mage
Ancient

Dryndlfyre long ago lost his faith in his fellow elves as well as all the other denizens of the Endless forests of Hyrm. He'd grown tired of the endless stream of requests for his services, especially when no one ever paid what they said they would. So, he sat in his hut in the dark to hide his presence, having spread a lie that he had to travel a great distance to obtain herbs and healing salves. He spent weeks carving the intricate runes into his skin, not caring for the pain until the last circle was healed and the magical properties of the runes was active and glowing with magic.

He then strode out of his hut and into the middle of town and sat with his legs crossed and spoke to no one, just sat with his eyes closed waiting. When a large enough crowd of witnesses surrounded him, he looked up with hatred in his eyes and touched the runes in a precise pattern and disappeared from sight. People still talk of it to this day, but without any explanation of what happened or why he'd left.

Shifting to a parallel plane he waited to see a village come into view and then appeared sitting as he had been silently as people bustled here and there almost as if they could not see him. Someone kicked him and looking down growled at him and spewed out a few profanities before kicking him again, this time on purpose, before striding away. He moved to the edge of the busy walkway and watched the people. They were not dressed in any manner he was accustomed to, but that was to be expected he supposed. He sat there for hours just watching, trying to judge this place for suitability for his new life. They were scurrying about like rats in a mage, he thought haplessly. No one here had need of him, or seemed to care to even take notice of his presence, still would he be happy in such a state? He wasn't sure.

As he pondered what he saw a small girl approached him and sat down beside him. She didn't say anything either, just watched everyone like he was but then she reached over to him and offered half of her peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He looked at it and the gooey stuff threatening to drip out of the bread she held and then her. Huge blue eye blinked and chubby cheeks perked up as a rosy smile lit her face. "It's grape the very bestest kind!" she exclaimed enthusiastically.

He wasn't so sure, but he accepted her offering anyway. They sat in silence again, eating and watching. After almost an hour she stood just as suddenly as she'd sat down, "People hurry too much." She decided and then stomped her foot for emphasis before she walked away.

He watched her amused by her show of temper especially when she was such an angelic looking child. And then she was gone and he was left to ponder what had just happened. And so his new life began as he continued to sit there, and daily the little girl would sit with him, offer him half her sandwich and make some comment before she left about what they had seen.
