It's an Iltis. Made by VW.
It was what Canada bought as an analogue to the M151 Mutt (Successor to the M38 Jeep)
We used the Iltis from....god knows when, to some time after 2003, when we began replacing them with the Mercedes G-Wagen.

I think the first ones went into service to 1985 or 1986. Either way, most fun you can have on 4 wheels.
