When The Sky Starts Falling

William moaned as he woke up inside the basement the wa supposed to be safe. "Good god...Hello anyone here?" William said as he yelled out to somebody."Well at least theres rations...hm?" William said noticing people in a strange tunnel that lead out of the basement it looked very old to william but he shrugged it off but he grabbed the only weapon he had before leaving he always kept a small retractable sword in his current pants pocket as he grabbed the small hilt and press the button making it full sized now he was ready to go to those people as he ran off into the tunnel in their direction. "Hey wait up don't you need a person with a weapon to survive up there?" William yelled as he ran towards the two people that were in the tunnel.

"...Frank...Anna.."

Dominic picked up on the familiar gruffness in the man's voice, and nodded to himself in confirmation. So that's what this guy's name was, Frank. Dom wiped some accumulating sweat from his brow and forehead as he trekked along behind Frank and Anna- which he could only assume was Frank's daughter. The young man took a controlled breath, and it made him retch. "Oh, god..." He mutter-grumbled. It didn't take much more convincing him that he needed to get the hell out of here.

In that moment a spark of orange and yellow caught his sights. Dominic raised his head, tracing the dancing flame in Anna's hand with his gaze and it reminded him of some sort of hope-beacon. Dom mechanically increased his strides toward the end of the tunnel as the sulfur-esque scents invaded his nostrils, he moved a bit closer to Anna and her light of hope, quickly becoming like a lightning bug to a pond in Summer; torches definitely smelled better than any sewer, he gathered.

Suddenly, their small convoy was halted-per their leader Frank's request, no doubt. And somehow, Dominic was okay with that. Being led wasn't so bad of a thing if the leader doesn't have doubts. And then a question creeped into his thoughts like an attention thief. Does Frank have doubts? Was he sure we would find a way out?

Dom gave his head an ironically dubious shake, breaking his stupid analytical reverie. Dom's almond slits flitted to Frank, who seemed to have found a way out.
"Well I'll be damned." He breathed, watching wordlessly as their leader Frank shimmied up the decrepit ladder and fiddle with the latch.

"C-careful! It might be one of those openings that are centered in the street!"

So far, this little journey seemed endless, and Dominic had somewhere to be at 6:00P--

Wait wait wait. No. What time is it?!

He lifted his dangling arm in sudden alarm, clicking the center button to check the time. He glanced at the tiny screen, reading 8:34PM. Dom cursed under his breath and was rudely interrupted by the phone's blinking reminder of a charge. 68%.

Great. Well, there goes that.

Frank reached the top of the ladder, muscles and nerves all set on edge from the pulsing anticipation. He planted his palms on the rough metal and pushed. No give, stuck tight, no surprise. These things were heavy fuckers anyway and Frank was still powerful despite his years. He hunched over and gripped the ladder rungs tight, bracing himself to ram the thing open with his shoulder. He translated the energy from his legs into his upper back with a swift springing motion. A little tremble this time. The manhole wasn't blocked then. One more time and the thing budged completely. Frank slid the manhole cover across and light filtered down.

The sun had set about an hour ago, it wasn't sunlight that near blinded Frank as he pulled himself out of the hole, it was fire. The manhole opened up on the main street across from what used to be the apartment building, and everything was ablaze with snarling flame and choking plumes of black smoke. The street was littered with rubble, abandoned cars, and a menagerie of other things that panic had suddenly rendered unimportant. Some buildings still stood, allot more that Frank had expected, but Frank had never been an optimist.

The strangest thing was the lack of noise, and people. No sirens, no grim army personnel hollering on loudspeakers. Almost silent save for the roaring flames. The power was still connected somehow, Frank could see the intermittent flash of a broken streetlight not too far ahead. Something felt wrong, Frank had that stabbing feeling in his stomach. He fingered the snub-nosed revolver he kept holstered under his ripped wife-beater shirt.
"Its safe to come up" Frank shouted back down, tried to keep his voiced steady.

Frank caught his reflection in a car window. A mean looking bastard, especially with a face full of blood. The deep lines of age had grown deeper, a permanent frown set against his formidable jawline. A notch out of his left ear. He looked like a cardboard cutout bad guy. Maybe that's all he was, he'd been trying to be something better.

"Okay everybody, get up there." Anna told the others after hearing Franks okay. She waited until the other six, or seven with the newcomer that had just caught up to them, had climbed up to the top. As she were holding the best light source she figured it was better to stay behind until last. That and she was terrified for what she would find up there.

Eventually it became her turn to climb up, slowly did she climb up thinking the worst. Once she got up to the surface she was both releaved and horrified by what she saw. There was still buildings standing, but many had also fallen. Some places was burning without a sign of any firemen to put it out. Worst of all, no sign of human life anywhere.

"They must have evacuated the city while we were stuck down there." She stated, hoping that was the reason no one was around. Though evacuation plans usually took longer than that, to be able to get out everyone that fast was an incredible feat. Or an impossible one. Maybe people were taking shelter in case more meteorites started to fall down on them.

"So, where should we go from here?" She then asked the group.

Evelyn was sitting in her room on her bed writing like she did every afternoon. Her headphones blared with music so she couldn't hear the outside world. It wasn't until she felt the building shake that she had any idea of what was going on. She took the headphones off her ears letting them dangle from her neck and walked over to a window "what was that?" She asked herself out loud. As she got closer to the window everything started getting crazy, the building was shaking more and more, she heard people screaming, buildings collapsing. She ran from her room and out of her small apartment thinking it would be safer outside in case the building fell. She his behind a large truck until things seemed to settle down a little. Everything got quiet aside from the fires and she slowly came out from behind the truck, as she did she saw a manhole being opened from underneath. Afraid of what might be trying to get out she just watched until a group of people emerged. She sighed with relief. More survivors. At this point there was no denying it in her mind, most people would be dead by now, she was lucky. Cautiously she started to make her way over to the group of people who had come out of the sewer. She was a little scared since she had no idea what was going on, so she tried to stay hidden for the most part. She was successful at staying hidden until she tripped over some debris and nearly snacked her face on the road "damn it"

William went last when it came to going up and after that he saw the world for what happened. "Honestly i don't have a clue....and also someone is behind us on the road." William told his little group as he gripped his favorite retractable sword now in it's form of a old sword from something long ago. "Show yourself....now." William said after turning around to see who was here as he raised his sword in a motion to attack the person or thing that was on the road at the time.

Evelyn picked herself up off the road and wiped her now bloody hands on her jeans. She came out to where the group of people could see her but kept her distance, and a close eye on the sword this man was holding. She looked to be about 22 and there was fear in her green eyes. She put her hands up defensively toward the man with the sword and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to sneak up on anyone.. Just didn't know what was coming out of the sewer so I was hiding" she explained quickly.

"Put that thing down, this is a nature disaster not terrorism." Anna said strictly to the guy with the sword. "It's not like we're in a movie where everything is out to kill us." She shook her head before walking closer to the hurt girl whom seemed to be some years older than her. She eyed her up and down for a moment just to make sure she weren't too badly hurt. At least she seemed harmless enough. It wasn't like she were carrying around a weapon like some other people.

Don't worry about it. You're not hurt are you?" She asked the girl, not wanting to frighten her even more.

Evalyn looked at her hands, they were bleeding but the cuts were not very deep. She put her hands back down by her side and shook her head "no, I'm fine" she looked at the group of people looking over each of them, she had always been a very observant person.. Unless she was writing that is. "Anyone know what happened exactly?" I didn't even realize anything was going on until my building started shaking." She sighed softly and brought her attention back to the girl in front of her.

Their number seemed to be increasing every other minute. It was a good thing, as that meant there was more people to help each other, but it could also be a bad thing once it came to finding food if they couldn't get out of the damaged area for some time. How far had the city been destroyed? Was it outside the city too? Probably, since it was a shower of meteors they probably had a pretty big area to fall on.

"We're not completely sure... But we think there was a meteor shower."
Anna explained. "Though it's hard to say for sure as we we're all in a basement during most part of it. So until we find someone who knows, it will stay a question mark."

"We should probably get moving, find a drugstore or something that hasn't been completely smashed to the ground. Wounds should be treated fast or else they might get infected." She finished. It would be bad if someone got an infection when they didn't have a hospital to go too. Those things could end terrifyingly bad sometimes.

Evelyn nodded agreeing with the girl "it would probably be a good idea to have a few first aid kits handy just in case" she looked over to frank noticing his cut up face "he needs it more than I do though so if we only find one, he is first" she pointed down the road in between two large buildings, there was a smaller shop there it looked beaten up but it wasn't falling over. "There is a pharmacy in that shop there, maybe they'll have some things we can use."

It took a long moment for Dominic to drink in the new faces and forms standing in front of him, now. They had finally reached the surface, and boy was it not what he was expecting, and sure as hell not the reality he wanted. The silence was eerie, and also a bit deafening in its own right. The only thing left in the disaster's wake was the bellowing roar of flame, and tendrils of smoke. A small soot storm began to accumulate around them while Dom tried his hardest to give his focus to Anna's primary plan of action, though falling a bit short as her voice became a slight whisper like the clang of a dull blade strained between Frank's leadership and these two newcomers.

Dominic's eastern eyes swiveled between the lot of them, all the while trying to ease the anxiety he felt in the pit of his stomach. Was everyone dead? Did they all just leave to the next town? What are we supposed to do now? What am I supposed to do, now? He shook his head, looking onward toward the main square, trying to make out whether or not that shop still had a that one local drug place was still standing. Dom caught the end of the new girl's sentence-- it's still holding up, he thought. But had it already been raided? The young man took a deep breath, turning to the rest of the group.

"Anna and the new girl are right, we should clean ourselves up if we have any injuries;maybe take some stuff just in case for the future. Who knows when we'll see any form of medical care again...?" He offered, giving an inquisitive gesture with his hands, though it was more a rhetoric for himself. His vision fluttered over to Frank, who did look the most rugged and tussled out of the group. It would be natural to want to be sure your leader is well taken care of and not harmed. In Dominic's mind, Frank was completely necessary; something about him seizing charge made him a really interesting man. Whether Dom would have thought that before the sky was falling, he wasn't sure.

Frank was jumpy, things were fucked up anyway but something just didn't sit right. There should be people, they spent maybe a couple of hours underground, nowhere near enough time for the authorities to set up a search and rescue mission for a disaster of this magnitude. He was so jumpy he nearly ripped out his revolver and shot the girl in the face when she stumbled out from the darkness. Luckily for her Frank's only reaction was a slight twitch in the corner of his mouth. Some fool went a step further though and brandished a pretty little sword.

Anna voiced his own thoughts with a little less dirt, so Frank voiced his too. "Yea kid, put away that fucking sword before you fall on it"
She seemed like another logical sort, fear but no panic in those green eyes. Finding medical supplies was a good idea. A guy Frank had only just noticed put in his two cents.

"Anna and the new girl are right, we should clean ourselves up if we have any injuries;maybe take some stuff just in case for the future. Who knows when we'll see any form of medical care again...?"

Frank snorted, and replied through a crooked smile "When have we ever seen any form of medical care? But, yea, I agree. Lets pick up what we can and make our way off this fucking street"

Frank didn't want to voice his concerns just yet. He was sure they were having similar thoughts.

(Just so you all know, the OOC thread is up. click right -----> here, to voice your ideas, thoughts, opinions and blah blah blah's)

Evelyn nodded at franks comment about getting off the street "we should probably at least find a clearing of some sort in case the buildings start falling again, so let's hurry and grab what we can from the shop and get out of here" she started walking hurriedly toward the shop and began thinking about what they would need "we should grab a bag and food that doesn't need to be cooked as well, just in case." She looked around at the damage as she walked, there didn't seem to be anyone around for miles and that worried her. They didn't just disappear. She thought to herself. Where are the police? Shouldn't they be out here trying to find survivors?.

"Perhaps we should split up into two groups?" Anna suggested. "One group tries to find food, and the other gets the medical stuff we need. That way we would get done faster." If more meteors started to fall then they wouldn't be safe even if they were in a group so splitting up shouldn't be dangerous in itself. And there seemed to be no dangers on the streets when it came to crazy people or animals, so they shouldn't have to worry for attacks."We would need a place to meet up at afterwards though."

Evelyn stopped walking when she hears Anna speak. "You're right, it would be much faster to do this in groups. There is, or used to be, a small park the next street over. We could meet there."

Frank didn't know if splitting was a good idea, then again he didn't know if staying with these people was a good idea. Getting meds was a good plan though, rational thinking; a commodity that had been in short supply for as long as he could remember and in times like these it was going to be gold dust. Food and water was a good start too, they had no idea of the extent of this disaster, or how far the emergency services had penetrated into the city. Frank thought it over for a couple of seconds.

"That's Everton Park right? Sounds like a solid enough plan... Although I don't think it'd be a great idea to stray too far apart"

Frank looked at the blackened sky and scratched at his stubble, found another piece of glass. "I'm going to the drug store, who ever's following, follow"
That feeling was still there, like someone was stubbing out a cigarette on the back of his neck. Not a panicky feeling, more of a syrupy foreboding that you couldn't wipe off. You could explain away the lack of people, but the silence? No, there would be something. A siren, the wails of the injured. Frank had been in war zones and this didn't feel like one, this was a graveyard.

He reached the shattered entry to the drugstore, too-bright light still bouncing off of fallen merchandise. There was a bag on the floor, empty and open as if someone had the same idea and gave up half way through. Frank almost took out his revolver again on instinct but brushed the thought aside, he wasn't quite ready to let anyone know that he had it. Instead he grabbed the bag and vaulted over the counter to where the good stuff was. Painkillers, muscle relaxants and antiseptics, he shoveled them all in without reading the labels.

Frank turned back to whoever had followed him and slid the bag across the counter. "If you want to add anything else now's the ti..GAH!"
Cold fingers coiled around his neck from behind and closed his windpipe, turning the rest of his sentence into a startled gurgle. Frank could feel hot breath invade the back of his head, blood begin to trickle from the broken skin as the grip tightened and finger nails buried themselves in. Frank threw his hands back, clasped the person's forearms and swung him over his shoulder so that Frank was over him and the man was splayed over the counter.

A man, no pupils, his eyes were dark specks of flint that screamed with animalistic rage. He didn't say anything, didn't snarl in fury. He bit, and would have taken the end of Franks nose if Frank hadn't jerked back and lost his grip on the mad bastards arms. Frank stumbled into into a shelf, knocking down half of its contents. The mad bastard wasted no time in vaulting back over the counter, but Frank was ready this time. He ripped his little snub-nosed revolver from under his shirt and aimed to fire, But this guy, this guy was quick. He closed the distance and grabbed Frank's gun arm before he could fire.

Frank smashed his head into his face with a sick, wet thud. His nose broke, but still he made no sound, barely even winced. Frank butted again and the mans grip loosened enough for frank to yank his arm free and shoot him dead in the chest. The sound was deafening in such an enclosed space and his ears began to ring. The attacker fell, spread-eagle on the floor, a pool of blood already beginning to form. As his hearing began to return, and gradually his other senses Fank realized that he was still pointing his gun at the corpse, hands shaking, babbling softly to himself.

"Shit, shit, shit..." His only though was, it'd been a while since he'd killed another man.

Evelyn followed frank to the drug store. She went to the opposite side of the store to find bandages, rubbing alcohol, something they could use for stitches if need be, and things the women of the group may need. She was completely engrossed in what she was doing and trying to get it done quickly until she heard the gun shot. She jumped, having been startled, and ran to see what was going on. She nearly ran right into the counter but stopped herself and looked between frank and the now dead man "what the hell happened?" She asked a bit freaked out.

"Everton Park it is then. See you there in a little while." Anna said before she and half the group went towards the closest food store. She was fairly certain that there had been a small shop pretty close by, as long as it was still standing, she could probably find it.

After just minutes of walking there was a sigh of relief as she and the small group found the store almost unharmed. The glass had shattered just like her apartment glass had, and stuff had fallen off the shelves because of the earthquake like movements from the impact when the meteorites had fallen down. There was no people there either.

"Okay, lets just take what we can. Only easily prepared foods that doesn't need to be cooked. Preferably stuff that holds for a while in case we'll be on our own for a while." She told the small group, before they started to search for anything eatable. As the other's mainly took canned food, Anna figured that there would be a need for clean water and started to pack as many bottles as she could in a shopping cart. At least that way it would be easy to get it around even if it was heavy. So far their group had no idea that Frank and his group had gotten attacked by someone and thought there were no dangers other than the nature catastrophe itself, which now seemed to have calmed down. As long as there was nothing to run from, the cart would be of great help to them to carry both food and water on. Since they didn't know how long it would take before they would find another place with clean water, or living people, it was best to take as much as they could and if it became to much they would simply have to see what was more important to keep and what should be thrown away.
