What's the worst movie ever made?

Here is my top 10 list of worst movies ever made:

  1. The Mist (Which sucks because it is one of my favorite short stories. :()

I share this feeling so strongly. I loved the short story ending much better. In general, I love King's short story collections better. Everything's Eventual was probably one of my favorites. Skeleton Crew was another favorite and the Eyes of the Dragon was fantastic because it's a further departure from his typical, while still holding his flair.

Well, I don't watch a lot of movies, but there's one that comes up as an immediate example. It's already mentioned above... Yep.

Avatar - The Last Airbender (M Night Shyamalan)

There were so many things dear ole' Shyamalan got wrong right from the get go. And the source material's already so well fleshed out too. I suppose he wanted to get creative or something... But seriously, for a movie with audience appeal stemming largely from an established fanbase of the original cartoon (or some might argue anime)... He shouldn't have disrespected the series in the way that he did. From mispronouncing the character's names, to ruining some character personalities (Sokka is the case in point); he was already setting himself up for a massive fall.

That, alongside his horrendous choices of child actors, excessive narration, over-usage of slow-motion... Also, that blasted 3D bullshit, as it turns out, 3D was barely even used! That said, the CGI for some scenes were ridiculous as well. A vivid example I recall is the earth benders breaking out of their imprisonment. In the original, because they were EARTH BENDERS, they were imprisoned on some ship away from any source of earth. Due to that, they were unable to resist or break out of their captivity. In the movie, for crying out loud, they were pretty much kept in a village-like place, I think? Goodness gracious, they had an abundance of earth to use but they didn't. And when Aang rallied (which itself is a change; the original had Katara rallying the prisoners) the prisoners, what did they do to fight against their captors? The bended earth, yes, but WTF MAN

tumblr_m84rf5qlsz1rp12dbo1_500.gif

WTF IS THIS SHIT. THERE'S LIKE 6 OF THEM AND ALL THEY MANAGED TO BEND WAS WHAT?

The earth benders in the original series could dig tunnels and lift much heavier boulders... And all it took was just one!

The laughter in that theatre though. Sigh.

So yes. Put very mildly, this movie was a colossal fuck up. I don't think any other movies will come close to this to me though, largely due to the fact I really liked the original series. Then someone just had to go in and shit all over it. THE PAIN. IT'S REAL!

Taken from my head directly.

That was 'This is the End' which is totally an awesome movie. <3

World's End had Simon Pegg in it, and was pretty damn funny, although I preferred him in Hot Fuzz more.

Agreed with you and @Hellis, This is the End was hilarious.

"The power of Christ compels you!"
"Oh does it? Does it really, Jay?" gets me every damn time.

That and the argument over the porn mag.

Anyone else have a movie they think would have been better left unmade?
*raises hand*

Haven't read the thread, so if anyone has already said "BATTLEFIELD EARTH", I apologize. Only movie I've never been able to watch... even bits of it make me... uggg.

LOL! My husband is the same way. He was extremely disappointed with it.

"Disappointed" is a serious understatement, given how good the book is and how awesome the movie could have been, if it hadn't ignored the book almost completely. Yes, big, thick book... but then, all you have to do is look at the "Hobbit" and "LoTR" movies to see what I mean. It CAN be done.

As an advance warning, this post will be primarily composed of me disagreeing others' choices. This is not to say that these individuals are wrong. Instead, it is merely to show that the film is not universally considered bad.

In reality, there are a number of films that I have personally enjoyed—and not on a so-bad-that-it's-good level—that were of low quality. I guess you could say I have low standards. Just ask @Herzinth.

Final Fantasy:Spirits Within
I've never played any of the games, but that doesn't really matter, seeing as the movie is entirely auto-sufficient and has little to do with the game series itself beyond a couple thematic links of an abstract layer.

That said, I loved the movie.

I watched it a lot when I was a wee little kid, and loved every bit of it. Since then, it has remained in my heart nostalgically. Admittedly, I haven't seen it for a very long time, so now that I'm mature, I might as well give it another go. Maybe it does suck, and I never realized.

I doubt it, though. I shall return with my final judgement.
Golden Compass.
I kinda liked it. Not familiar with the source material.

Wobbly C, from what I remember.
Totally agree. Sucked so bad.

I hadn't even watched the animated series, so no nostalgia clouding my vision. It was just horrible.

A strong F.

Agreed. My family was watching expecting some great fantasy epic, but man was it horrible. Became a running joke in the family though.

Like, who names themselves Farmer?

Weak F.
Also agreed. However, in this case, I did read the books. I often wonder if it would be so bad if I didn't know how atrociously its attempts at adaptation were.
The Little Mermaid
I loved this movie as a child. It was my toted favourite movie up until I was at least thirteen.

However, this is another case of a film I haven't seen for a very, very long time, because we lost the VHS when I was a kid. Still willing to bet it was a good film, and she'll always be my favourite Disney princess, lurking in the nostalgic cavities of my heart brain.
Romeo & Juliet film
There was at least one I liked. The 1968 one. Wasn't great, but enjoyable nevertheless.

C+.
Space Odyssey
I slept through that movie. Apparently, I was awake just long enough to get the boring intro out of the way, and then woke up again for the credits, while missing absolutely everything of interest. Although... Aren't there two of them?

And finally, list of not-so-memorable movies that I still enjoyed, but can't accurately judge without re-watching:
Gladiator
Snow White and the Huntsman
The Lion King 2
Anything that has Michael Cera's weasel like visage

Also agreed. However, in this case, I did read the books. I often wonder if it would be so bad if I didn't know how atrociously its attempts at adaptation were.
And here I thought it would've been better if I actually did read the book.

Yeah, I thought this too for a while. Like maybe if I held off on reading the book until I's seen the film, it wouldn't have seemed like such a load of crap.

I also forgot to mention a big one to me;

Star Trek: The Motionless Picture. I mean what the hell?! What is that shit man? All the rest of the films I loved...but the frst one? Graw.

Step 1: Realize it's a lot of sex metaphors and the end unveiling is literally a robot trying to figure itself out sexually.
Step 2: Oh my god Spock flew into a robot's space vagina.
Step 3: Oh my god this film is hilarious.

Oh I'm aware of that but I found it to be a lot of build up rather than actual movie. It did have it's funny moments yes...but I felt that it was too long and dull to be named as a movie. It'd have done better as an episode.

How-dare-you-say-that.gif

I love the mist (that ending) But say what? Cloverfield?

I don't watch a lot of movies, but the one that made me rage was the 90s Disney Three Musketeers. If you read the books you'll understand.

Also any movie with a useless love interst subplot, like Inspector Gadget. WHY WAS THERE A LOVE INTEREST, WHY!

Escape from L.A.

Maybe just because of the contrast to its predecessor, but it seemed to hokey, even for an 1980's action film. That and the only movie I ever walked out of a theatre for was "Across the Universe" sadly enough. I enjoy a good musical, but what they tried to do with the visuals was like a bad acid trip laced with out-of-context obscure imagery. The music and story otherwise were fine upon a second watching, but the director apparently had some disagreements with the CG department on sepia.

Saying a movie having to much build up and being to long... I am sorry, should we stick you infront of a Baymovie? :D
But wasn't Transformers 4 over 3 hours long? D:

That's pretty standard for Beatles related movies, because Yellow Submarine is pretty much what I imagine taking LSD is like.

That said, they're pretty miserable to watch if you aren't in the mood for something that makes less sense than Ozzy Osborn trying to speak.
