    Since the beginning of time
    , stories of the creatures who go bump in the night have haunted the weary and restless.

    It started as explanations for the inexplicable, things our primitive knowledge of the world couldn't yet interpret. These cautionary tales were meant to warn us of the dangers lurking out of sight, reminders that there is more to this world than we know.

    Over time, these stories became local folklore, legends passed down from generations over campfires. As we came to understand the world, our rational and scientific minds scoffed at the idea of these beings' existence.


    But what do we really know about
    what's hiding in the shadows?
  • THE PLOT





    Set in Sarasota, Florida, What We Do In The Shadows follows the lives of a group of misfit vampires and their familiars as they try to navigate the modern human world. In order to ascend into greatness as vampires, they have been tasked to take over the "new world" by vassalizing the human race.

    With the pressure to succeed ever increasing, our group is finding the task harder than anticipated. Between domestic disputes, other supernatural creatures' interference, and the struggles of understanding this digital age, nothing seems to go as planned.​
  • THE LORE

    Appearance:
    • Vampires typically have a very similar appearance to normal humans, with the only outward signs of vampirism being pale skin, though some appear distorted and demonic.
    • Vampires most commonly have two fangs in place of normal human canine teeth, though some have mouths filled entirely with sharp teeth. When angry, they may reveal their true form, which often resembles a bestial version of their normal appearance with yellow irises and red sclera. They often hiss when agitated or threatened.
    Reflection: Vampires do not have reflections, but will be visible in photographs and on film.

    Body: Vampires show no normal human vital signs, such as heartbeat or breathing and their skin is cold to the touch

    Blood:
    • Even though they aren't alive, they still require sustenance and must drink human blood to both nourish themselves and help them retain a youthful body; if they go too long without drinking blood they will start to become decrepit in appearance.
    • Vampires typically prefer to drink the blood of virgins, as it often has a more appealing taste, though some vampires seem not to distinguish and only drink virgin blood because they believe it is cool.
    • Drinking the blood of humans under the influence of alcohol or drugs may cause the vampire to also become intoxicated.
    • Vampires can also consume the blood of animals, but this has less nutritional value.
    Sleep: As vampires are harmed by sunlight they will typically sleep during daylight hours. Most vampires will sleep horizontally or vertically in coffins, but some will prefer to sleep hanging upside-down like a bat.

    Creation:
    • A human becomes a vampire if they have their blood drained and then in turn drink the blood of a vampire. The start of the process is signaled by a brief flash of yellow in the irises of the eyes
    • The process of transforming into a vampire is extremely uncomfortable, beginning with flu-like symptoms which include clammy skin, fever, chills, and heavy vomiting. They may also bleed from their eyes.
    • The transforming human body eventually stops showing normal human vital signs and they become physically dead. They will begin exhibiting signs of vampirism, such as developing their fangs, paling of skin, distortion, and fading of their reflections, and they will often begin involuntarily levitating. They begin to show an aversion to religious imagery and will begin to develop sensitivity to sunlight.
    • This is accompanied by an increasing hunger for human blood, with the first consumption of human blood marking the end of the transformation
    Weaknesses:
    • Religious imagery will harm or frighten them; prolonged exposure will cause them to burn and bleed from the eyes, even references as small as crossed fingers can repel them, and their mouths will catch fire if they try to say religious phrases sincerely.
    • They burn in sunlight, with even small amounts of exposure causing them to start smoking.
    • Contact with salt, garlic, silver, or holy water will also cause them to burn.
    • A vampire can be instantly killed by a wooden stake through the heart, and decapitation.
    • They are incapable of eating human food and will projectile vomit forcefully if they consume even a small amount; this will be even worse if the food contains garlic.
    • Vampires are also physically incapable of entering new buildings unless someone invites them in.
    • Vampires who experience traumatic events may have their powers weakened. Traumatic events can also cause vampires to briefly age rapidly. Vampire bats are actually vampires who have experienced an intense humiliation, such as hosting a bad orgy, and have permanently turned into bats, incapable of flying as high as vampires in their normal bat forms
    Vampire society:
    • Vampires are expected to follow the vampire code, which forbids crimes such as killing other vampires or turning babies into vampires.
    • Vampires typically keep themselves secret from humans out of fear of being targeted by vampire hunters.
    • They generally dislike werewolves, but this is often merely due to prejudice.
    Vampiric Council: The most significant governing body of vampires is the Vampiric Council, an international organization who put vampire criminals on trial and punish them if they are found guilty, sometimes by imprisonment or death.

    Communication: Although vampires are capable of using modern technology, they traditionally communicate over long distances by using ravens as messengers

    Titles: Vampires often give themselves or receive titles after their first names, such as Vladislav the Poker, Nandor the Relentless, and Vasilika the Defiler.

    Psychic vampires:
    • Psychic vampires are the most common type of vampire. They have the ability to drain a victim of their energy, rather than blood, through conversation or certain acts.
    • They are notably the only kind of vampire that can drain another vampire of their energy, or gain energy from victims electronically via the internet.
    • They are able to exist in sunlight without issue, have reflections, and live a more ordinary experience than traditional vampires, although their eyes may glow lilac-blue while feeding.
    • They are not harmed by religious imagery or connotations.
    • They are incapable of flight but may hover during periods of intense power.
    • Psychic vampires are capable of shapeshifting into animals, but this is rarely put into practice.
    Familiars:
    • Unlike most humans, familiars are aware of the existence of vampires and choose to act as servants for their vampire master(s), in the hope that they will eventually be turned into a vampire themselves as a reward.
    • Many familiars will carry out tasks that can be difficult for vampires to do, such as covering up sunlight in their homes, helping them travel to distant places by shipping them, finding other humans for vampires to eat, and hiding the evidence of victims.
    • Due to the sociopathic nature of many vampires, it is common for familiars to be exploited, with their masters often overworking them, abandoning them, setting them dangerous tasks, and/or deliberately putting off turning them into a vampire.
    • Seeing elderly familiars who have served for years is very common.
    • Although familiars are subservient, some vampire masters will hypnotize them occasionally to avoid conflict.
    • Familiars will often network in social gatherings, although many will use it as an opportunity for complaining, and "sad hook-ups".
    • Some vampires may adopt animals instead and consider them familiars.
  • THE CHARACTERS
    In this group, there are three types of characters that the players can choose: Vampires, Energy Vampires, and Human Familiars. There is a character limit of two, and each player is only allowed to play one human. Furthermore, the group has a limit of two energy vampire spots.

    An important note about energy vampires is that they have reduced powers, and are much more limited in how much they are able to use them. For the most part, their ability to blend in with normal human society means that they are less powerful in the traditional vampiric sense. Please keep this in mind when thinking about choosing this option.

    Powers: With this roleplay being quite whimsical, supernatural powers are allowed to be played loosely. For example, deus ex machina is absolutely plausible in most situations. However, things such as Godmodding and Over Powered characters are still against the rules. Each vampire character is allowed to play with a variety of common powers. Players can pick one unique power per vampire character.

    Common Powers:
    • Immortality: The power to never die unless dictated by a specific species' weakness.
      Limit: As vampires, they have species-specific ways that would kill them such as sunlight, a stake through the heart, and decapitation. All other manners of other traumatic injuries however wouldn't be effective.
    • Agelessness: The power to stay young forever. Users of this ability never age, and as a result, and never suffer the ravages of aging.
      Limit: With the consumption of blood keeping them appearing young, if a vampire has gone without fulfilling the urge to feed, they often will start to take on an older and more worn-out appearance. Furthermore, if a vampire experiences a traumatic experience, the stress can cause them to age rapidly.
    • Levitation: Users can cause oneself/subjects/objects to hover/float in the air unassisted, allowing the user to bend the will of gravity and prevent their bodies from making contact with the ground below.
      Limit: When using this power, if the vampire is not completely focused they can often lose control of their balance or float uncontrollably. Levitating can be difficult to maneuver, and it is not uncommon to see them bumping into things or hitting their heads on the ceilings
    • Flight: Users can fly or otherwise move through the air with ease.
      Limit: This power is limited to when they transform into their bat form or any other flying animal they are able to replicate. When in use they are bound to the same limitations of that animal they are transformed into. For example, a bat can only fly up to speeds of 60 miles per hour and up to a distance of 100 miles in a single night.
    • Hypnosis: The user can affect or directly influence other people's minds to their commands.
      Limit: To perform this requires intense concentration. People who are either strong-willed or extremely ignorant have a harder time being controlled. The subject can resist this if the request is outside their area of knowledge, something extremely outside of their normal character, or physically impossible to achieve. Hypnosis also requires vocal and/or somatic gestures, which must be perceived by the one receiving hypnosis.
    • Transformation: The power to turn into bat or feline form, as well as simply taking on features of these animals, such as wings or larger fangs.
      Limit: This power is limited to sorely bats and felines. When using this ability, the person is restricted by the laws of nature for that animal, meaning that they are only able to go as fast, or as far as that species. This also applies to things such as sight or smell while in the animal form.
    • Teleportation: The ability to move instantaneously from one location to another without physically occupying the space in between.
      Limit: This power has a limit of 15 feet that the user can teleport within.
    • Telekinesis: The power to move, manipulate, or otherwise interact with objects/matter with one's mind.
      Limit: When in use, this power has a range of about 50 feet and a maximum weight of 300 pounds. Somatic gestures are required to manipulate objects. This power is voided if the object is of religious backgrounds such as a cross or a priest.
    • Regenerative healing factor: The ability to heal rapidly from any physical injury.
      Limit: This power relies heavily on the consumption of blood to work. Users who have not drunken recently will have a slower effect. As vampires, damage done by species-specific incidences, such as burns from sunlight, heal at a slower rate unless a substantial amount of blood is consumed immediately after. Pain from injuries can still be felt.
    Unique Powers:
    • Transform into a wider than normal variety of animals.
      Limit: When using this ability, the person is restricted by the laws of nature for that animal, meaning that they are only able to go as fast, or as far as that species. Furthermore, the user can only spend up to an hour in their animal form before it begins to wear them down significantly, at which point they would need to replenish themselves with blood. If the user is not fully focused or unpracticed, they can botch the transformation with strange characteristics.
    • Control and communicate with animals: The power to control and to talk to animal life forms.
      Limit: This power has a range of 30 feet, along with a max influence of 10 animals at a time. Furthermore, depending on what the user commanded, it is possible for the animals to want revenge when they regain their free will.
    • Invisibility: The power to render oneself unseen to the naked eye.
      Limit: Users of this power are required to be naked in order for them to move around undetected. Although the user is unable to see, their physical body still remains. This means that they can still be sensed through smell, or sound, along with their outline being visible in the rain. Furthermore, it takes great concentration to remain invisible, and can only last up to an hour before it becomes extremely draining for the user.
    • Elemental Manipulation: User can create, shape, and manipulate the basic elements of nature and the rudimentary, simplest, or essential parts/principles of which nature consists (ex. pyrokinesis). The four principal, basic elements are Earth, Water, Air, and Fire.
      Limit: The users of this power are only able to manipulate one of the four basic elements. As such, the user is limited to elements that are near to them. For example, if they are flying they cannot randomly spawn earth around them. Users of this ability have a range of 100 feet.
    • Wall Crawling: The power to fasten onto and climb vertical and horizontal surfaces without falling.
      Limit: Anything that covers the user's hands or feet will nullify this power. Furthermore, surfaces that are completely smooth are unable to be climbed.
    • Telepathy: Users can read or sense another person's thoughts, communicate with them mentally, or affect, and otherwise interact with their mind, consciousness, and thoughts.
      Limit: This power does not work on mindless beings such as corpses or zombies. The more intense of thought, the louder it becomes. This power has a range of 30 feet, along with a maximum influence of 10 beings at a time. Telepathy often causes the user excruciating headaches.
    • Empathetic Manipulation: Users can sense and manipulate the emotions, including feelings, moods, and their effects, whether by increasing, decreasing, causing, or otherwise channeling emotions.
      Limits: The more intense the emotion, the harder it is for the user to control while keeping themselves focused. This power has a range of 30 feet, along with a maximum influence of 10 beings at a time. All of this can often cause the user excruciating headaches. Similar to hypnosis, the user cannot make the subject experience emotions that aren't already somewhere within their psyche.
    • Psychometry: Obtaining historical memories or sensations concerning beings and objects they observe.
      Limits: In order for this power to work, the user must be able to touch the being or object to observe the memories. Furthermore, this power leaves them vulnerable while they are observing as they are not focused on their surroundings. The user isn't always able to dictate what they receive. If the user is wearing gloves, the power becomes void. Intense memories can often make the user ill.
    • Darkness Manipulation: User can shape and manipulate darkness and shadows.
      Limits: The user of this power is not able to create darkness itself, and is limited to manipulating already existing sources. This power has a range of 50 feet.
    • Blood Manipulation: Users can shape and manipulate the blood of others.
      Limit: This power has a range of 50 feet. The users of this power are unable to create blood, being limited to manipulating only from already existing sources. As vampires have no bodily functions, they are unable to produce their own blood to manipulate. However, if another vampire has recently consumed blood, that is an acceptable source.

  • THE SETTING



    The story takes place in the suburbs of Sarasota Florida, where the characters share a house together. The house, which was built in the mid-1800s, is a sizable dilapidated Victorian estate with three floors, along with a dormer attic. The bottom floor is considered the "common area" with a large but mostly unused U-shaped kitchen with an island tabletop. In the corner is a breakfast nook, though in this house it would be considered the "midnight" nook. This leads into the grand dining hall where a long bloodied table sits in the center. On the other side of the house is the living room which features a stone traditional open-hearth fireplace, and the study which is covered with antique books, along with a desk and a few recliners.

    The next two floors are all personal living space, with each tenant getting their own room and conjoined bathroom. The familiars are kept either in the two rooms under the stairs, or in the attic. As sunlight can be an issue, the windows have plywood nailed to the frames outside as faux hurricane protection, while the inside has news papers pasted to the glass. The blinds are always kept closed.​

    History: In this roleplay, there is a heavy historic element. Although players are given free rein to insert their characters in whatever historic context they please, remember to respect the events and communities that are involved. Some history can be gruesome and unpleasant, so be sensitive to how others might perceive these aspects. In the event that your post contains possibly triggering content, please use a Content Warning and place it within a spoiler.

    Furthermore, although players don't need to be expert historians, some research about their character's background would be helpful. Please make sure your characters' backstories are at least somewhat accurate to real-world historical events and contexts.

Strengths
Realistic: When dealing with what most would consider stressful or high-pressure situations, Zeph is able to respond in a calm and clear-headed manner. Many times, he can seem as if he is detached because he doesn't let emotions cloud his judgment, however, this only helps him make quick and decisive decisions. He has no delusions about what he is able to accomplish as a medic, which keeps him from having any false hopes or creating any fallacies.​
Brilliant: Even as a child Zeph always stood out among his peers. Although he always led people to believe that it came naturally, he had to work hard to gain the amount of knowledge that he possesses. While at work he is meticulous, almost to the level of obsessive. He is dedicated to his job and performing his duties to the best of his ability. This has led him to be one of the most skilled doctors from his medical school. He is ambitious in his goal to be the best and never stops in his pursuit to reach it.​
Charismatic: Even though Zeph isn't naturally charming, he will often make an effort to act overly friendly and approachable. As a doctor he has found that it is easier to work when people like him, finding that patients believe him to be more trustworthy. Although he doesn't consider this to be his true personality, viewing it as a type of act, he can't deny that he can easily flip a switch in his mind. He will sometimes use this as a persuasion tactic when he is trying to convince someone of something. Many believe him to be sweet and innocent when they first meet, which helps him get his way. However his antisocial personality comes more naturally, and acting this way is much more draining for him. People are usually surprised when he finally drops the act after a while.​

Weaknesses
Idiosyncratic: Most would describe Zeph as strange, and not like any type of doctor they have met before. Although he would state that his true nature is asocial, that would not be the truth. For the most part, Zeph's real personality is quite neurotic. He is known to be erratic, bouncing between trying to act friendly, and to this intense whimsical state. Only when there is a literal danger to someone's life, does he ever get honestly serious. Normally he is spontaneous with his actions since he is often looking for some type of entertainment from people. He enjoys messing with people to see different kinds of reactions, that are part of his curious nature. Talking to people who annoy him, he is frequently sarcastic, and generally not taking things seriously, especially if someone is acting like a child.​

Dissident: When it comes to following the rules, Zeph leaves much to be desired. He doesn't do too well with taking orders and can tend to be a spoiled brat. He has a rebellious nature that drives him to do the reverse of things, whether that is rules, laws, or societal standards. He prefers to go opposite of the grain, and his stubborn nature causes him to plant his feet and hold firm. It is clear that he has his own opinions about things, and is unwilling to relent to others. He is often reluctant to accept help, preferring to figure things out on his own than admit that he doesn't know something.​

Hedonistic: Almost everything that Zeph does is based on his constant search for enjoyment. He is extremely intelligent, however, that often means he is left feeling bored. To keep himself amused he likes to tease and harass the people he is close to. As a true sadist, sometimes that is as simple as making someone flustered, and other times that means playing with someone's body until they beg for release. Although he is highly motivated by pleasure, he has a strict policy about sleeping with people. He has no issue messing around with a mostly willing victim, though his favorite is corrupting those who claim to be pure, he never goes all the way. In fact, even though most would call him a whore for the activities he engages in, he has only ever had sex with one other person due to his commitment issues. When playing with others, he will always be clear that it is just a casual fling until he gets bored. He is very perverted, kinky, and sadistic which he loves to use to his advantage when playing with his toys, which is what he always calls the people he has chosen to bully. Even though he won't promise to be monogamous, liking to have multiple people to tease, he is highly possessive of his toys.​

However, not everything he does for enjoyment is based around sex. He also loves to play mind games with people, his favorite is taking advantage of the fact that most people are nervous about medical things. Though he also likes to do experiments and test his theories of unsuspecting people. With his two conflicting personalities, he will often act like a saint in front of one person, but the moment they turn their back he will tease another. He finds it hilarious to see the different expressions that people make when he says perverted things or drops his act.​

Pretentious: There is no doubt that Zeph is a great doctor and a strong vampire, and the man is well aware of that fact. He is confident in his abilities both medical and powers to be able to handle anything life may throw at him. He has worked hard and believes that he deserves all the praise possible. Sometimes this takes the form of overconfidence, though if you ask him he deserves the right to gloat. However deep down, since he has never received any praise from his family, he supplements it with his own boasting.​

Vasil: The thorn in his side. His darling rose. It's so strange, how the man has become his world when they couldn't even stand to be in the same room together once upon a time. After being married over a century, and knowing each other for over two, simply calling the man his husband doesn't quite convey enough. Without Vasil, surely Zeph would have been lost in the darkness of never-ending life.

Antoni: It's difficult to put into words the sort of relationship that Zeph and Toni have together. Both being equally daring and voyeuristic has led to some lascivious times. Though, nothing is ever truly acknowledged. Rather, everything consists of smirks and glances.

Judy: A little baby bird he picked off the street, fallen from the safety of its nest into the world of depravity. Zeph tends to dote on him, finding him too weak and innocent to take care of himself. Though, eventually, he hopes to see Judy come out of his shell and truly experience all that life can offer.

Danny: Zeph instantly found Danny intriguing. His false confidence and overt bravado make it extremely entertaining to tease the little human. As a familiar, he has been one of most interesting to date.

Rose: One of Zeph's favorite additions to the house. She is a calming feminine force among these heathens and barbarians. Plus, it helps that Rose has impeccable taste in clothes. She is Zeph's go-to when he needs to blow off some smoke, literally. They can talk for hours about plants, and often spend time together in the garden.

Vy: Another little bird that Zeph likes to spoil. She has an equally terrible family, though has somehow managed to maintain a warm disposition. Zeph also wants to see her grow stronger, and take revenge on those who have wronged her.​

Biography


Biography
  • Zeph was born as the first son and heir to his father's title as duke. He was born into lavish wealth, with every need and desire taken care of.
  • Growing up, he spent his summers in his father's family villa in the country. While the rest of the year was spent in the city at his family's large estate. He had many personal tutors, who taught him everything he would need to know to become a great duke one day.
  • Even as a child, Zeph was quite a handful. He often skipped lessons to explore the estate, and later the city. Among his immediate family and most trusted staff, he had a reputation to be eccentric. Having interests that lay beyond the strict social norms of the time period.
  • As he got older, he started to attend galas and balls with his parents, exposing him to the french politics he would soon be a part of. Although he found them boring, this was where he eventually met Laurent.
  • The man was ten years his senior and had an exhilarating aura that seemed to draw Zeph in. They quickly became friends and spent lots of time together. He was the only person in Zeph's social circle that he felt truly understood him and accepted his quirks. It's no surprise that he quickly developed a crush.
  • After a while, to Zeph's surprise, Laurent confessed that he also had feelings for him. It was a shock, but the young Zeph felt a wave of emotions he had never experienced before. He agreed to start dating, despite knowing the consequences of such a scandal this would cause if it ever got out to the public.
  • While their relationship grew closer, Zeph fell even more madly in love. Laurent became his entire world. His first love, his first kiss, and eventually his first partner in bed. However, it wasn't meant to last.
  • It turned out that for Laurent, this was all part of a political power scheme and Zeph was merely a pawn. He revealed to the world Zephs homosexual nature to embarrass his family and gaining favor among their rivals.
  • This led to Zeph being disowned, losing his inheritance and title, and being exiled. His family sent him away to a small island in the french countryside, where no one would know who he was. This absolutely destroyed Zeph, sending him into a depressive and destructive spiral.
  • Although Zeph wanted revenge he knew in his current state he would be unable to achieve it. This was when, as luck would have it, he met Alexei. The man heard about Zeph's plans to overthrow the monarchy, and offered his assistance. Thus, Zeph became a Vampire.
  • With this newfound power, he was able to aid in the french revolt. Destroying the system which denied him his right, and crushed his heart. His family fled, but he was able to watch as Laurent was sent to the guillotine.
  • Once everything was over, Zeph had thought that he would feel better. However, he felt just as empty as he had when he was in his youth. He was alone again,
  • As he faced eternity alone, Zeph wandered the world looking for distractions. He met lots of people, though none of them ever ignited the spark within him. As decades went on, Zeph often ran into Vasil, and they would always fight or ruin each other's plans. The man was a headache. Yet, seemed to be the only constant in his undead life.
  • Eventually, the pair started to grow close, with Vasil bringing him flowers from all the exotic places he had been. Each coming to understand that Alexei was the true enemy. And so, after nearly a century of resisting fate, they got married.
  • For a while, they caused chaos together, starting wars, revolutions, and disasters wherever they went. But, even that grew boring after a while. So, they felt like they needed a change of pace, and bought a house in the new world. Starting a new adventure with new people.
Vampiric Transformation
  • Unlike many, Zeph was a willing participant in his transformation. Alexei had searched for him and gave him the choice, which Zeph confidently accepted. Although one might think drinking human blood and killing someone might way on a conscious, Zeph was unaffected, his mind clouded with revenge
  • The process was scary, yet Zeph was never actually afraid. He was in such a horrible pit of depression, that he didn't care what happened to him.
  • As the transformation process was complete, Alexei took it upon himself to teach Zeph all about being a Vampire. It didn't take long for him to start growing stronger. And soon, he had his revenge.
  • Afterward, soon found out, he was once again used. His Sire had only turned him, so that Zeph would be able to incite the revolution, thus hurting his enemy, Vasil.

Zeph: When Judy was in the height of trying to discover whether he had been lied to his entire life, Zeph was the one who appeared in the midst of that struggle to show him a world he never would have thought existed. Judy feels immense respect and loyalty to the man, bordering on a hero complex, and would do just about anything he asked for. Even though all of Zeph's teasing and faults, Judy would never say even a single bad word about him.

Vasil: Ever since Judy was brought to the house, Vasil has never been friendly towards him. Judy often receives cold stares or is ignored completely. He doesn't know the reason for this treatment but is committed to winning the man over through hard work.

Antoni: Although Judy was brought to the house by Zeph, his main job has been helping translate for Antoni. He isn't technically the man's familiar, though he also doesn't really know what sort of relationship they might have as it isn't like he could ask him. Even so, Judy takes his job seriously and does the best that he can to help.

Danny: As soon as Judy moved in, he quickly became friends with Danny. Judy has always looked up to the other, as he seems so outgoing and well-liked, possessing qualities that he lacks. For Judy, this is his first real friend, and he tries to go out of his way to show his appreciation to Danny.

Vy: It often feels as if Vy and Judy are twin souls, they have similar histories and are both soft-spoken. This is probably why they get along so well. Although Judy has a hard time socializing, he always feels safe when he is around Vy.

Biography
  • Judy was born as the third son of a deeply religious family. His father is a minister. When he was born with bright red hair, his parents thought he was the son of the devil, thus giving him the name Judas.
  • Growing up, Judy was often mistreated by his family. They lived on a small homestead, where they were homeschooled by his mother. The only time they left home was to go to church. The town they lived in was small, and also very religious, so he was often treated as an outcast by the members of the congregation.
  • As he got older, Judy began questioning the religious teachings he had grown up with. Although he wanted to believe that all the hardships he had endured were all part of God's plan, he also rejected the idea of worshiping an entirety that could be so cruel. So, he set out trying to discover if God was real.
  • Judy knew that it would most likely be impossible to get any definitive information about God's existence, so his plan was to try and prove if anything supernatural existed. He hypothesized that if he could prove that ghosts or demons existed, then surely God did as well. This is when he started researching information about the occult, buying demonic summoning books, and cursed or haunted items.
  • This search is what led him to a witch's den. Unbeknownst to him, he had walked into a shop thinking he would be able to find some new material to investigate, when in reality he was about to be attacked and used to make a witches brew. However, right before his fate was sealed, Zeph happened to see what was happening and save him.
  • After that, Zeph took an interest in Judy, and brought him back to the vampire house. Judy was in awe that such beings existed, and wanted to learn more, so he agreed to work as a familiar.

Why do you want to live in a vampire house?
I want to be able to serve my master and be available at any time of the day. Plus, I think it would be exciting to live among supernatural creatures. It's an experience most people don't get the chance at.

I'd like to think I am pretty considerate of others, and I'm also receptive to hearing any issues that someone might have with me. I really just want to get along with everyone.

My family had a small farm, so I've been around a lot of animals growing up. However, since moving out I have not owned any pets for myself.

APPEARANCE | Once considered a man of stature and grace, to the contemporary eye, Vasili is only marginally greater than average in appearance, standing at 5'10, taut and firm. What elevates his presence is his demeanor-- he's always straight-backed, his chin raised, arms firm against his sides. His pale skin belies a hint of something once more olive-toned, and his face is stoic, square, and defined. His head shaved, ears sticking up into something near-pointed, the chiselled features of Vasil's face are sharp. His nose has a slight bump in the middle, his eyes are set deep into their sockets, bearing irises near-black, and his brow and cheeks are prominent and low. It's difficult to find expression in Vasilii's face-- even before centuries of immortality wore away his care and warmth he was a stoic creature.

Vasil's wardrobe is born of practicality over fashion, consisting almost completely of black garments. Living so long has detached him from any sense or care for contemporary fashion, causing him to easily mix 19th-century waistcoats with 2000s bootcut jeans or long caftans with parachute pants. Vasil's cardinal sin, however, is his fascination with the so-called "garbage store"-- he adores thrift shopping, and frequently brings home the strangest and ugliest of his finds. As long as he can easily work in the garden, or dust the light fixtures, or tend to his chickens, Vasil is just as likely to be found in a tunic and trousers as he is a baggy novelty sweatshirt and cargo pants. As long as its shade is dark, Vasil will wear it.

PERSONALITY | Vasil has no particular interest in modernity or the fleeting trends of contemporary time. He does not understand fashion. He does not understand technology. Vasily does not care about the current brand of masculinity, about celebrity or news. His insistence that the only constant is change and that everything will one day pass and die has resulted in complete indifference and ignorance toward human culture and, frankly, humankind. Though he holds a mild fascination for some modern conveniences-- grocery stores and thrift shops, most notably-- all other novelties are nothing more than a bother.

The benefit of Vasily's indifference to modern culture is that he's far more attuned to both the natural world and the intrinsic state of human nature. He knows how to commune with animals, how to tend to testy crops. He knows human body language, can smell fear, can foresee the shape of history not with supernatural ability, but with centuries of hindsight. But that doesn't mean he likes people. If anything, it makes their relative ignorance even more repulsive.


BIOGRAPHY | Born during the tail end of The Republic of Novgorod's existence, a place that now exists as a part of modern-day Russia, Vasil's upbringing was that of a peasant farmer, though one of far more intellect and privilege than one might expect of a man born during the European medieval period. Novgorod's system of democracy and prosperity were a benefit to him, and though in humanity he was vastly uneducated by modern standard, Vasil had one thing a man of any era would be envious of-- exceptional intuition. He was a fast learner, a man of wit and will, and his ability to pick things up quickly rapidly resulted in the meek farm boy's transformation into a wiry mercenary.

Finding himself moving from conflict to conflict in the encroaching fall of the Republic to the hands of Ivan the Great, Vasil was fighting in the Battle of Shelon River when his luck ran out. Sustaining a life-threatening wound, an incredible slash that only barely missed his vital organs but sufficiently bled him to numbness, he didn't have a choice to become a vampire-- at the time, he believed eternal life to be the superior choice to no life at all. But, in the immediate aftermath of his transformation, he swiftly realized his decision had been the wrong one.

Vasil was a ghost in the fall of his home. He haunted the fields for a long time, saw places in the republic he had never had the fortune of witnessing before, with the misfortune of knowing it was all after its fall. He wished he could get some revenge on the Russian men that had cut him down and taken his homeland, but he had no idea of how to accomplish his goals-- not with the fight already lost. But he had his newfound power, a reborn of the night, and he realized that he would have to find a way to use it.

For the first decade of his immortality, Vasil wormed his way into Russian courts, killing the right people to form both connections with the powerful and to pose himself as one. He had a fully-fledged plan to overthrow the entire Russian monarchy by the time he was finally caught, ratted out by the very man that had turned him, causing an immediate need to flee.

But once he had established himself as some old Novgorodian aristocrat, no country left to insist otherwise, Vasil had a far easier time instating himself in other courts, first as a refugee in places sympathetic to his loathing of Russia's rule, then beyond, every one or two decades seeking a new home when his agelessness and oddities became too suspicious. If he was going to live everlasting life, forced to bleed people dry and wander the world for eternity, at the very least he was going to do it in style and comfort. Plus, all those days lazing and gossiping gave him plenty of time to come up with newer, better plans-- plans to thwart his sire himself.

His movements began to follow a pattern, following his sire's trail wherever it led, establishing himself in whatever courts necessary to gain the leverage he needed. While trying to get in the way of whatever odd plans Alexei had, he simultaneously attempted to thwart him in bringing new vampires into the fold. Frequently they found themselves in rivalry, an endless cycle of getting one another kicked out of aristocracy or hunted in the streets. Vasil thoroughly believed himself to be the one with the upper hand for well over a century-- until he moved to France.

The French Revolution had been his fault, really. He had gotten too close to its aristocracy, to its patrons, to its gold. Alexei knew that Vasil liked France, knew he had a near-impenetrable stronghold there. So, under his nose, he sought out the disgraced son of an important Duke, whispered words of revolution in his ear, and turned him to grant him the immense power necessary to thwart Vasil.

It didn't take long for Alexei Borgov's role of rival to be replaced by this once-duke, Zephaniah Blanchet. After a few years of living with the ageing artist and once-friend Francisco Goya, Vasil became obsessed with getting his revenge not just on Alexei, but on Zephaniah. So he chased him from country to country, leaving destruction and political turmoil in the wake of their battles, until, almost on whim, in a pause of clarity, they finally talked. Reconciled what had happened to them, their fates intertwined-- and realized that Alexei was the real threat. They parted ways, but almost as soon as he had moved on, he realized his obsession hadn't stopped-- he was in love.

But Vasil continued his travels, brought tokens to Zeph in some half-apology as he continued exploring the world, trying to find some new tool to use against Alexei. Vasil shared his plans with time, insisted that Zeph needed to do something, too, and not long after they finally married did they agree their mission was best carried out as a pair.

So they travelled, this time together. Started revolutions. Destroyed governments. Caused fractures and splits and chaos. And they were in love. Not just with one another, but with the destruction, the catastrophe left in their wake. But the court-hopping did get old, eventually. They needed something new, something fresh.

And so, they moved to the new world, and ever since, they have stayed.

    Danny is a reedy young man with a thin layer of muscle. He has tussled and brushed back brown hair, as well as lightly tanned skin. His eyes are regular muddy brown, but he wears hazel contacts to seem more "unique". His wardrobe consists of leather jackets of various colors (mostly black), tracksuits, regular suits, and the occasional t-shirt and jeans combo. The t-shirts/jeans are reserved for when he feels like shit and doesn't want to put any effort into his fashion.

  • Personality
    The one thing you have to know about Danny is that he's a pretender who's afraid to acknowledge his own true self. He loves to give the impression that he's an aloof yet complicated guy with a dark and mysterious past. Truthfully, he's a huge dork and an even bigger nerd. He can tell you anything about any superhero or anime character within five minutes. He likes to debate whether Goku would beat Almight in a boxing ring. He gets nervous and flustered easily, and his palms always get sweaty (mom's spaghetti). He recites lines from vines and loves applying songs from musicals to everyday situations. He's clumsy, especially when he's trying to look cool for somebody.

    Biography
    • He was born in Cardiff, Wales, and adopted by two college professors. Instead of sending him to public school, his parents homeschooled him from Year 1 to Year 9, and only let him go to high school because he begged them. He didn't get along with most people in school because they'd known each other since Year 1, so friend groups had already been established. And because he was homeschooled he often knew the material already and so was deemed a massive fucking nerd. His interests in musicals, anime, and comics certainly didn't help his situation.
      [*]His parents got divorced and he and his mom moved to Pensacola, Florida where her ailing mother (and Danny's grandma) lived. Taking a lesson from the way he was treated at his old high school, Danny decided to change his persona. He told the other students to call him Danny, he started wearing black (not goth black, just regular black), and slacking off in school. He hung out with the "bad kids" for half a quarter until they tried to get him to smoke, and his good upbringing wouldn't allow him to partake. But, his efforts to seem mysterious, coupled with his thick Welsh accent, resulted in him being labeled as a "bad boy".
      [*]Despite trying to cement his reputation as a bad boy, Danny spent most of his free time with his grandma, Bronwen. Even though she was suffering from bouts of dementia, when she was lucid, she would tell him the wildest stories. One frequently told stories was of the time she met a creature only thought to exist in fantasy: a vampire. She told him about an old paramour back in Wales who was one of these mythical creatures and that he wanted her to be his familiar, but she did not want to be cursed with eternal life so they parted ways. After that, Danny made it his mission to find a vampire and become their familiar in hopes of receiving eternal life and becoming the ultimate badass.
      [*]When he graduated from high school, he decided that instead of going away to college, he would go to nightclubs, alleys, and bars in hopes of finding a vampire. And of course, increasing his cool boy credentials. He would often sit at the bar, nursing a disgusting glass of whiskey (the drink of badasses) and wait for someone anyone remotely vampire-like to appear.
      [*]He met Zephaniah at a bar while pretending to be broody and badass and became his familiar, under the condition that he would eventually be turned into a vampire for his loyal service. So far, that has not happened. But he's confident Zephaniah wouldn't lie to him.

    Jennie is a fairly tall and muscular man. Standing at 6'5", he tends to tower over others and his modest muscles only add to that. He has dark brown hair which he loves to groom. He has a light distribution of facial hair, thick dark eyebrows, and a sharp jawline. He prefers to wear suits most of the time, but when he's interacting with his goat Tymon, he wears angora sweaters that he knits himself. He doesn't care for piercings or tattoos, so he has none.

  • Personality
    Jennie is very straightforward and stoic. His life as a puritan though short had a strong impact on him. He's a minimalist through and through and doesn't like excess or clutter. He is incredibly judgemental when dealing with people who he deems wasteful. Even as a non-religious man, he can get pretty preachy when he disapproves of something. But even though he's immortal, he gets attached easily and doesn't like being alone. He hates parting ways with the people he cares about and it's happened so many times now that he'll do just about anything to keep his current clan.

    Contradicting his usual rigidity, Jennie gets animated and gushy when interacting with Tymon. He extends this warmth to all the animals in the house, but his voice goes up a few extra octaves when he's talking to his beloved goat. He's very sensitive when it comes to acting on behalf of his goat, especially when people on Etsy leave bad reviews after buying something made from Tymon's luxurious grade-A hair. He also tends to be pretty ornery and meticulous with his familiars, sometimes going as far as making them change clothes because they look frumpy.

    Biography
    • He was born March 11th, 1692 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was the second son of Creedence and Obedience Black, two stern parents. The entire society was stern and suspicious of anything unorthodox or remotely abnormal and Jennie hated it. He understood the need for modesty and humility, but he didn't understand the religious aspect. He had a lot of questions but of course, that wasn't tolerated. So when he turned 16, the age of maturity in Puritan society, he left the colony, hitching a ride on a trader's wagon.
    • He never settled in a new place and instead became a trader's apprentice. He would travel with his master to settlements all through the colonies for six years. At some point, his master expanded his trade routes to the coastlines and soon Jennie found himself regularly consorting with pirates. His master warned him against it but Jennie was drawn to the camaraderie that he saw amongst the pirates...and one particular pirate.
    • Jennie and Captain Leonidas Howell got along famously. Their interactions extended past the amicable greetings that pirates and traders exchanged. The two men treated each other like old friends despite not having known each other long. When Leonidas' ship was due to cast off, he invited Jennie along. Of course, he said yes. It turned out that the captain got along with Jennie so well because Jennie was his favorite type of food: Naive, impressionable, straight-laced young man. Jennie served as the captain's food for two years before he turned him. Leonidas taught Jennie how to be a vampire, but as soon as they got to the next port Jennie took off.
    • He lived in France for a while, making a living as a goat farmer in the country. He moved around France for as long as he could before people started getting suspicious. He repeated this lifestyle all over Europe until 1922 when he took a boat back to the Americas.
    • He settled in Florida in a house owned by fellow vampires, Vasilii the Vulture and Duke Zephaniah Blanchet. He's lived there ever since.

    Leonidas Howell - Alive - Bad terms - "I hope he's dead. Or better yet, trapped in his ship thousand of leagues underwater."

    Vampiric Transformation
    • Captain Leonidas never intended to turn Jennie. He actually planned to throw the man overboard when he got tired of him or abandon him at the next port. However, Leonidas soon realized that he'd developed feelings for Jennie and wanted to keep him around. He could have turned him into a pirate, but he got jealous when he saw Jennie laughing or even talking with the other members of the crew, so he often kept him locked in his quarters. By this time, Jennie knew that Leonidas wasn't the friend he thought he was, and that he wasn't even human. That knowledge terrified him, but he couldn't escape and he wasn't desperate enough to jump overboard. He realized that Leonidas had a soft spot for him, so he worked on endearing himself to the man, just in case.
    • The ship arrived at a popular pirate port and the entire crew including Leonidas went to have fun at a local tavern. Leonidas locked Jennie up in his cabin for the entire time. He came back drunk and ravenous. He only meant to take a few sips, but he lost control and drained Jennie completely. He panicked and forced Jennie to drink his blood, thus turning him into a vampire. He taught Jennie all about his new inhumanity, then informed him that the two of them would find a meal together at the next port on the coast of France. Horrified that he would have to do the same thing that was done to him to an unsuspecting person, Jennie made plans to run away. When they arrived at the port, Jennie suggested that they split up and try to find two meals instead of one so they could have options. Leonidas believed him and let him out of his sight, and Jennie high tailed it out of town.
    • Jennie hated being a vampire at first because he hated preying on unsuspecting people and using them as portable caprisuns. However, after encountering a vampire in the country, he realized that he was mimicking Leonidas' behavior and that he didn't have to. The vampire, Flavia Decimus was old, having been turned over thousands of years ago. She taught Jennie everything that Leonidas failed to like how he could drink from animals instead of people, and that he had powers. After they parted, Jennie used his powers to force large animals to approach him so he could drink from them. Eventually, after moving back to the United States, he started drinking from humans again but found it difficult because he'd developed a preference for bald people.

    In order to speak to the animals, he has to make their respective sounds (growls, cries, barks, etc.), and sometimes when he wants to switch back to human speak, he has a bit of trouble. One time he spoke to a dog for twenty minutes and afterward he tried to chase his own tail.

    Controlling animals is much harder than speaking to them, mainly because they're usually pissed when they get back in control. More than a few animals have turned on Jennie because he made them do something shitty.

    History:
    Bianka was born in India in 1906 as the daughter of a street physician and a shopkeeper. She was kidnapped at age 12 by a twisted psychic vampire who was a street entrepreneur. Her uncanny beauty turned his thoughts towards profiting off her so they can gain fortune - and more souls to steal. He offered her a new life if she served him for life. Hoping to return to her family, Bianka accepted to become his familiar.

    Her sire taught her about everything as they traveled. He drilled her on poise, speech, languages, science, world history, and world politics, as well as art, photography, dance, music. He wanted her to be well-rounded - a power that heightens her already powerful features. When she was 15, he began promoting her as a model, hoping her natural looks would instantly gain attention. Some would ignore her age, but rarely anyone would ask because, at 15, Bianka already carried herself as if she was 19 - 20 years old.

    Eventually, after her sire gained the success he wanted, and Bianka reached 20 years old, he turned her - as promised. Truly, after so many years with her sire, traveling the world, Bianka realized if she stayed with her family, she would have been married off at 14 and had 8 children by now. Becoming one of the hottest models in Europe was better than anything she could imagine. But the cost of such success and fame for an Indian woman was far more than she cared for. And worse, the life of a Psychic vampire wasn't exactly how her Sire told her, but it was better than death.

    Throughout her travels, she ended up being separated from her sire. She returned to India and jumped into volunteer work. She began working for a women's welfare group in Champaran, Bihar where Kasturba Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's wife, happens to be teaching. The call to fight against British rule caught her interest, so Bianka followed Kasturba and her entourage. Kasturba was like a mother to her and the other women within the rebellion. Bianca became one of her assistance, aiding her as she supported her husband in the race for peace. With Gandhi, she was in and out of jail but always side by side with the movement promoting freedom. The Gandhis' were like family, but when Kasturba passed in 1944, Bianka lost interest in fighting for freedom and wanted to leave India for good. The passions of rebellion were worth staying, but without her mentor, Kasturba, she lost the passion to stay.

    After a while, Bianka decided to attend college in India, and there she met Qarin Kunal (who was going by Max at the time) and his group of friends. Qarin was someone she actually knew quite well, but he did not know her. She recalled in her past with the Gandhis that he was their fourth generation great-grandson from their second son. She even recalled a time or two, meeting the man as a child, then a young teen. Feeling a connection with him then and now, she decided to befriend him and eventually explain a few things to him about who she is, and what she wanted him to become. Of course, he didn't believe her at first, but deep down... he knew she wasn't lying. Those eyes - no one was dumb enough to forget those gems, right? Eventually, he trusted her enough to learn more about her. And soon, a friendship - and a contract - was created.

    Bianka stuck with Qarin and his friends after college. Since they had dibs on a local nightclub, she was in pure paradise - the nightly excitement generated there was her daily dose of pure energy. And when they began to perform there, Bianka knew she had a goldmine waiting for her to excavate. So, her proposal - she assists the guys with various promotions, marketing, accounting, legal, and any other business needs - as their manager. And all she wanted was to stay close to Qarin. With her aid, she helped Khoj Arth grow into one of the hottest nightclub alternate rock bands in India.

    She stayed with the group through their ups and downs. When they eventually moved to America, they landed in Florida, of all places. It wasn't ideal for Bianka, but it was the group's choice. Besides, if they didn't move there, she would never have met her new group of friends. Nitesh and his wife live in the living quarters above their new nightclub, while Bianca and Qarin reside in the vampire's residence she happened upon while searching for a more private place for them.

    Other:
    Bianka loves anything of beauty and quality - from fine furniture, jewelry, food, clothes, anything. She prefers to surround herself with a few beautiful things worthy of quality, then tons of little trinkets of no necessary value or quality. One hundred years of living taught her that quality lasts longer than quantity.

    Her older journal... about 200 of them... and others have been read by only one person - Qarin. He's used many of her lines as inspiration for a lot of their band's music, as well as many of his solo songs. Her newest volumes are from her experiences in America and Florida, which she used to explain her thoughts to her housemates.

    She has an emotional support animal - a black coon Maine cat named Kejav. He is her familiar as well - and a friend to Qarin.

    In Jaipur, India as Qarin Onkar Nehru-Gandhi, Max was born within one of the most powerful political families known. He was raised to excel and stand above all others as one who may, one day, follow in his father's footsteps. Max naturally absorbed political principles, but later, just as naturally, grew repulsed by the patterns of that arena. His father became frustrated by his only son's hardheadedness and lack of loyalty in refusing to follow the well-planned paths he'd plotted for him. Max received daily beatings, hoping such raw discipline would break him out of falling short of perfection.

    Max obeyed, followed along to avoid the attacks. Soon to avoid being touched by anyone he isolating himself from his personal studies and drugs; anything to hide from his father and the pains of seeing his mother's disappointment. At the age of 13, as soon as he graduated from school and packed up to start his studies and training in the military academy, Max went awol. He joined a bunch of other young boys who were forced to join the academy, and they found their way to Delhi to find jobs and create a life of their own.

    One of his new brothers found a club looking for workers. They were all hired there, which gave them a place to work, and the owners allowed them to live in the apartments upstairs. They lived and worked there for several years, making enough to start secondary school with financial aid. All of them soon started college around the ages of 18 – 20.

    During Max's 2nd​ year in college, he met a young woman, Bianka Alling, who seemed to know more about him and his family than he did. Her mysteriously striking features and knowing presence were familiar, like an old dream, and took control of him. He couldn't figure out why. Max was hooked but realized that Bianka was far out of his league. She was wise beyond her years, intelligent about topics he had no clue about, and just carried herself three steps above him. Max never understood why her presence around him had such an impact on his life. It was as if he'd found the only friend he's ever needed – which seriously caused strife between him and his best friend Nitesh. But even Nitesh could not get over the refreshing peace and relaxation he felt around her. Besides, Bianka became a major aid for the guys when dealing with situations they were unfamiliar with.

    One night, after cleaning up, Max decided to play with one of the guitars – and the others joined in, picking up random instruments they knew how to play. Not knowing one of the owners was close by they began to play several songs. Max and one of his older play-brother, Nitesh, began to sing. That is how Khoj Arth was born.



    They started to perform in the club as Khoj Arth (Find Meaning) with Max and Nitesh as lead and backup vocals. Bianka assisted the group by adding her vocals from time to time, but mostly proving her worth to the guys by becoming their manager, quickly overthrowing the club owners who attempted to manage the band to cheat them out of their potential. Through Bianka, they were able to maintain their respect and living arrangements with the club owners, while building and promoting their little group. Through Bianka's creativity in promotions, she helped both the band and the club to become the hottest thing ever in India.

    Eventually, they landed a record deal and began tours throughout Asia and soon Europe. It was a dream-come-true for them all until their fame gave way to their location and their parents found them.



    Luckily, ten years had passed. They were all of-age with similar stories of parental abuse. Bianka's quick legal thinking gave the parents a way out of jail time by them settling on leaving their famous sons alone. If they left them to their own lives, the truth to their upbringing would not leak to the press or authorities to ruin their political careers. So, all the parents agreed to the arrangement – all except for Max's father. With his political reputation now tarnished with Max's stories of abuse, his father was determined to erase his disrespectful son's lies by any means necessary. His father's desperate need to eliminate his son caused the band to break up after seven years. Death threats towards their families forced this. So, knowing he was the cause, Max chose to leave the band much to his play brothers' disbelief and frustration. Nitesh and Bianka left with him, for they didn't want Max to hide alone.

    Together, they made their way to England to live with Nitesh's English girlfriend's family until they were able to make their way. Max changed his name and returned to college, graduating quickly with music and production degrees, and Nitesh studied business management and Cyber Security. Bianka entered college as well to graduate two years earlier than the guys with a business and accounting degree. With a loyal fandom calling out for more KA, the group decided to return to the stage. Nitesh talked Max and Bianka into traveling to America with him and his girlfriend, Melissa, knowing they could bring back the return on KA – this time, with an updated sound. Nitesh's plans returned the rest of the band – most of the members were already living in America. They reconnected and began Above Beyond, touring for a while until other personal issues caused the band to separate once more. Friendships remain.

    Max, Bianka, Nitesh, and Melissa (now married), and two other members of the original band worked together to help promote Max as a solo artist, but Max preferred just to produce and write music for his brothers and allowed them to take the spotlight. Therefore, the members worked together on a new project – coffeehouses. They created Above Beyond Brewhouse in Sarasota, Florida, which brews and sells an assortment of American, English, and Indian brewed beverages – alcohol and non-alcoholic.

She wishes to see her son again but fears what might happen to her if she attempts to divorce her husband and flee to America. This is what fuels Max's depression. He's created a name for himself hoping to help his mother escape his father and the political world.

    He takes great care of his appearance for someone who frequently turns and stays invisible. He exercises frequently for the upkeep of his muscles - which are entirely for show, it's not like he needs them on top of his vampiric strength. He also frequents the beauty salon down the street, to get his nails done and to get his eyerbows threaded.

    First and foremost, it should be known that Antonio is, for all intents and purposes, mute. He technically can speak just fine, but he chooses not to - not that any of his acquaintances would know this as he hasn't spoken in centuries.

    He does know sign language, although he doesn't bother to use it all that often unless he absolutely needs to. Most of the time he makes himself known just fine with gestures, and expression, and looks. And when he isn't capable of getting his message across, he usually doesn't care all that much, unless the topic is extremely important.

    He's sort of a loner, in the sense he doesn't really care for the presence of other people, or creatures, or beings. Or rather, he he might tolerate their presence but doesn't care much to communicate or connect with them in any normally-meaningful way. He's not a social person, and if he were to spend time with anybody, he'd much rather exist in the same room, quietly.

    People are often too loud, too talkative, and too annoying for him. It takes a long time to get close to him, because of this, and those that are close to him are among a very small, chosen few.

    Antonio is capable of turning himself invisible. This requires a great amount of concentration, but he's gotten quite good at it - capable of remaining unseen to the naked eye for up to an hour before needing to rest.

    He cannot stay invisible for longer than an hour, and while invisible, others can still hear, smell, and touch him. He also needs to be completely naked.

    As a vampire, he can still be killed by sunlight, a stake through the heart, and decapitation. He needs to continue to consume blood in order to retain his youthfulness.

    Levitation requires a great amount of concentration, and even then can be difficult to control, especially in smaller spaces, and he also has a horrible habit of getting trapped in bat form.

    As he is mute, he is incapable of performing hypnosis.

    history.

    Born in Braga, Portugal, in 1518, Antonio was born to a Portuguese nobleman. His mother was ill with the mumps at the time of his birth, and died shortly after.

    Not long into his childhood, it was clear that Antonio was "deaf and dumb". Initially, his father was not very accepting of this, often beating him when he didn't hear what he had said, or couldn't respond back. But eventually, he grew used to it, and together they found ways to communicate.

    For the most part, his father kept him sequestered away from high society; partly to avoid the embarrassment, and partly to shield his only son from the scorn. Once he had learned to read, Toni spent most of his time in their library. It was a very lonely existence, but Toni didn't mind.

    It wasn't till he was twenty-five that anything exciting happened in Toni's life. His father was out late, drinking at the nearest pub, but he came back much later than Toni would have expected. He was disoriented and seemed sick, so Toni helped him to bed. When Toni woke the next morning, his father was dead.

    Toni barely had time to grieve before his father suddenly sat up then began levitating. He'd never admit it, but he pissed himself a little bit. And that was how they realized his father had been turned into a vampire.

    It was his father who eventually turned him as well, nearly a year after his own turning. They had a lot of reasons for it, one of them being that Toni's father theorized that it might fix Toni's hearing. And it did! Although suddenly being able to hear, and hear extremely well was extremely overwhelming.

    For a long time, around a century, Toni and his father continued to live together, until Toni decided to set out on his own. He traveled across much of Europe, before settling down in England for another century, and eventually catching a boat to the Americas.

Appearance

Avicus stands at an intimidating height of 6'4. He sports dark decently filled in brown tripped beard along with dark brown slicked back hair. Avicus also has grey eyes. Not only is Avicus slim, but he's also incredibly toned due to his appearance from when he was turned. Nothing much has changed since then, as he has decided to keep his appearance identical in remembrance of his past. Avicus has a fairly standard style, opting for things such as a henly and jeans, though he has been known to dress up when the occasion calls for it. Avicus' job is a gardener, so when he is working he opts for jeans and a solid colored short sleeve shirt.

Personality

Avicus' personality is something that isn't easy to put into words. Due to his past, it's made him quite humble in stark contrast to the zealot he once was. After years of traveling the world and the reality shift that came with becoming a vampire, he has put his religious past behind him although he still does hold some resentment for those in religious communities. Avicus, before becoming a vampire, would fight and kill in the name of Christianity but as the times have changed, so has he. Avicus now is extremely laid back and collected, often appearing as stoic. In times of distress he does very well and can keep his head, a skill that mostly rears it's head when he is feeding. When dealing with others, he opts to hide his emotions physically, something stemming from his calm demeanor. He enjoys being around people, but it's also a cause of concern for him as he enjoys control, something interacting with other vampires doesn't allow for.

Unfortunately, even though Avicus holds some sort of resentment for religion and those following its Dogma, he still holds some beliefs from his time before he was turned. Avicus still holds hatred for the Seljuk Turks and those of muslim faith, seeing it as a stain on the world due to the atrocities that were caused by Empires it's name. Along with this, Avicus has problems of those not of what once was considered natural genders and sexuality. This acceptance has been relatively new considering Avicus' age and it's something he has yet yielded to. Another major belief affecting Avicus' personality is his love for war and bloodshed. Even after becoming more calm and collected it's something that he still thinks about. This has caused him to still embrace a form of conflict resolution by the name of "Trial by Combat" or a "Judicial Duel". A standard ordeal taking place throughout hundreds of years of Avicus' life it's something that has been ingrained within him, and something he will readily use to resolve any outstanding issues.

Biography
  • Avicus was born of Noble blood on January 19th, 1072 in the now current state of Germany. Since he was a child his parents had trained him as a knight and as Christian, so when the pope announced a Crusade against the Seljuk Turks and Jerusalem he was nigh duty bound to join. He left his family, and joined the Emperor of Byzantine with many of his countrymen.

  • Avicus took part in many battles, but particularly the Siege of Jerusalem. This was perhaps the most important battle of his life, as it's also the same siege during which he was turned by a Seljuk Turk. This was the beginning of his new life, and was a major point in his life that cause him to down his faith in God. He was forced to leave his fellow crusaders for fear of them finding out what he truly was causing him to roam the world as a mercenary.

  • Avicus tried to find solace in battle, and took place in nearly all of the crusades that happened. For a long time it's something that he battled with, especially considered how he would feed on those he would injure in battle causing a hard fought internal conflict with his faith and his natural instincts. It was only after the last Crusade, dubbed "Lord Edward's Crusade" that he finally left Europe and the Middle East to find greener pastures. This, however, was a folly as there was no shortage of conflict no matter the land he found himself within.

  • Avicus arrived in Japan after countless years of fighting and moving East. It wasn't long until he found the Land of the Rising Sun, but also it wasn't long until he found another battle that need fought. Unlike the wars he had frequented before, war in Japan was focused on a power struggle rather than religious differences. Avicus went from Daimyo to Daimyo trying to offer his services. He never stayed employed for long, and was looked down upon by those in the upper places, specifically those in the Samurai Class. He lacked what they had called "Bushido". This lasted longer than Avicus was willing to admit, and it wasn't long until weapons he had never seen before made their way to the battlefield. Understandably, Japan was behind the times when it came to military innovation and most of their wars were still fought with Sword and Bow. Firearms had made their way to the shores of Japan, and so did a tide of bloodshed.

  • Avicus found himself in the employ of a daimyo dubbed the "Fool of Owari", otherwise known as Oda Nobunaga. Nobunaga was a known for using peasants and ronin in places of high status. This enabled Avicus to get a foothold into the hierarchy of the Oda clan, until eventually Nobunaga had officially made him a Samurai. Finally Avicus had not only a title, but land. After continuing his campaign with Nobunaga, it wasn't long until the infamous incident at Honnō-ji Temple had occurred. Akechi had betrayed Nobunaga, killing him along with a retinue of elite guards. Avicus was able to get away cleanly, but it meant that he was considered a ronin. A samurai without a master. After merely 13 days, Hideyoshi, another peasant raised by Nobunaga had taken his revenge. After this Avicus had decided to join up with Hideyoshi and do what he did best. Battle.

  • Avicus followed Hideyoshi for years, until the fateful battle of Sekigahara in 1600. Tokugawa Ieyasu displaced Toyotomi Hideyoshi's son and promptly created the Tokugawa Shogunate. After this point, battles became less commonplace as time went on so Avicus had to find something else to fill his time with. He noticed while he was within the company of Nobunaga and Hideyoshi that they, and all samurai followed something called Bushido. Not only did it deal with a moral code that should be followed, especially in battle, but encompassed even practices such as calligraphy, poetry, and even tea ceremonies. For the next hundred years or so it's something he would frequently practice, although he partook in unsanctioned duels on a common occurrence as well.

  • After it hit the beginning of the next century, specifically 1915 he began to hear about the new world, and what was going on within. He knew that people had made it there and fought over the land but he was too engrossed in his own wars at the time. Now that it's the turn of the century, something in him had changed. Avicus again, succumbed to wanderlust. It was only a few years until he landed in America. Avicus didn't have many skills other than those used in battles, and what he picked up from practicing Bushido. One of those skills he had picked up was taking care of Bonsai trees. It's something that calmed him, and allowed him to craft something unique with his two hands. With this, he began traveling around the U.S. in an attempt to begin his own business. Unfortunately being a vampire meant that he wasn't able to open up during the day, a fatal flaw in most cities but it wasn't the case when he landed in Florida. After a few repeat customers, specifically those of the Vampire variety he began looking at his options when it came to actual housing. It wasn't long until he found the application for a flatting situation in Sarasota, Florida.

  • The only known identity of Avicus' Sire is that he was a Seljuk Turkish Warrior who was stationed within Jerusalem at the time of the first Crusade.
  • Avicus' Sire is dead, by his own hands.
Vampiric Transformation
  • Avicus was forcibly turned during the Siege of Jerusalem in 1099. During the week long siege, Avicus was able to scale the walls to being subterfuge activities such as poisoning water wells. This initially went smoothly, however deep into the night and the middle of his task he was captured by a Seljuk Turk who was ironically also a Vampire. Knowing how much it would torture a Christian Crusader he took it upon himself to turn Avicus.

  • After forcing Avicus to drink the blood of the Turkish Vampire he was sent to the deepest dungeon available in Jerusalem. Days went by, as did his transformation. On July 13th Avicus was officially a newborn Vampire. Before fully escaping, he was confronted by his Sire. His Sire gave him only the basic information, such as what he is and what he has to do to survive from now on. After outlining the basics, and especially emphasizing the intense aversion Avicus will feel towards Christian symbols Avicus did the only thing he understood at the time. Kill heretics.

  • Avicus completed his initial task and returned to the rest of the Crusaders, but he did so while also excusing himself. Avicus was acutely aware of the hunger gnawing at his depths, along with how the rest of his companions and fellow Christians would feel knowing the truth of what he had become. Trying to save both himself and his fellow crusaders he set upon a path of solitude.

Drawbacks
  • Limit: Users of this power are required to be naked in order for them to move around undetected. Although the user is unable to see, their physical body still remains. This means that they can still be sensed through smell, or sound, along with their outline being visible in the rain. Furthermore, it takes great concentration to remain invisible, and can only last up to an hour before it becomes extremely draining for the user.

  • Unfortunately, Avicus has become quite used to using this power whether for actual reasons or just to use it because he has it. Sometimes he will forget he is using it, and as the hour time limit begins to get closer his need for blood is also heightened. This has caused him issues as he almost needs to feed when using this power for more than 45 minutes. Another issue is he isn't always concious of when he stops using invisibility, often causing him to show up randomly around places naked for seemingly no reason.

An attractive, but gloom stricken man. He looks to be in his late twenties, maybe about 5 feet 10 inches. Despite his uncouth and lacklustre character, he is quite an ostentatious person.

His personality is rather shite. He attracts his prey with his pretty face, and feeds on their delicious astonishment to his display as a terrible human being. jOKE is on them. He's not! A human anymore, that is.

Once a happy man. He was a loving husband and a respected math professor at Cambridge. His life was meaningful and he was often called an 'optimist.' A dreamer with stars for eyes. This definitely attracted the attention of his sire - Baylor Atanasius. Eugene was forcibly taken as a pet and transformed to be the soul sucking vampire that he is today. Upon Baylor's death, he had gained some semblance of hope to return to his life and family. However twenty years had already passed and his wife had remarried. In present day, Eugene continues to adjust to his life as a vampire. He tries to have fun, even if he lives without meaning.
