The first post two paragraphs will explain the setting and where everyone can start at. If you're not of the Guild you can make your own entry wherever if that is what you wish. If you are a new recruit than you will be addressed soon by a Senior Hunter about the first mission. Whose a new recruit?

Oh here's the thread hyperlink to the Story: https://www.iwakuroleplay.com/threads/welcome-to-the-guild.33240/

I'm assuming that both Piper and Myself's character's are -new recruits-, though given that we're both nobility from across the sea, we'd likely be seen as something closer to liaisons than 'recruits'. I assume the Senior Hunter will address us anyway?
As well, the goal is for everybody to end up in the same place, da?

Yeapers, I don't like assuming things so I ask.

If you guys want to post your characters coming into the Mess Hall, what they think of the place and whatever you can. The Senior Hunter won't be introduced yet.

Eirioch and Brigit are seated at the table, near the head. Being honoured guests from the North and what not.

Okay once Gicofokami posts the Senior Hunter will come and talk.

Shouldn't Vexor post as well?

So, if this is still accepting newcomers, I'd like to be inquisitive for a bit. I read through the Interest check, and have some questions. The world's lore is rather well understood to me, except...

Are there people who try and tame lesser Shadow Beasts or greater wild creatures for either personal gain or city defense? Are there people who have pursued this as a science of sorts? Any pioneers? Is it an unspeakable task? Is it a knowingly fruitless task? Are there living specialists?

I would be interested in playing a Beastmaster-type character, who would either be a Worg packleader, if it's possible to tame Shadow Beasts, or just your run-of-the-mill Beastmaster, hunting with bears, wolves, horses, etc

I think that from what I understand - The Shadow Beasts are more like devils, they can't be tamed in the ways that animals can be, they're more like malevolent spirits that most people naturally despise. I'm not the GM, but thats the impression I got.

I understand they're rather demonized, but I'm wondering if that's just from human perspective, or true lore.

Actually Sir Basil pretty much has it down to a "t". The lore is what humans have been able to observe of the creatures without getting themselves killed in the process. In this storyline, new information will be explored.

And how about taming wild creatures and monsters of a lesser caliber than Shadow Beasts? Is Taming a science? A life skill?

The other monsters are Shadow Beasts but other mundane critters is doable. And I believe it would be a skill.

To clarify what I meant by monsters; I meant like Orcs, Goblins, Giant Spiders, Serpents, Giganton (plural of Gigas, I believe), etc, outside the realm of common beasts like ursas, equines, and the like, and also outside the realm of Shadow Monsters.

I think its less traditional "high fantasy" than that. I believe the GM means; wolves, foxes, dogs, hawks. That sort of thing could be trained.

No. There are Shadow Beasts and Mundane critters like a dog and tiger. The list I have for Shadow Beasts isn't even all of them. I will make new ones throughout the story that will be added in. I will also include weakness for them too so killing them will be fun.
I hope that was helpful.

That settles that, then. I'll have my Beastmaster type character up in a few.

Name: Palomina Riortius
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Birthplace: Campus Gnaeus, Regionem Imperialis Gardeniam (Land of Gnaeus, Imperial State of Gardenia)
Occupation: Beastmaster, Member of the Hunter's Guild
Appearance:Despite coming from one of the most civil and better known families of the mainland, the Riortii, Palomina became a brash woman. When she's not away, she bathes to prevent disease, and dresses in fine leathers with her Guild insignia in plain view when discretion is not an issue. She carries a Riortii signet at all times, whether she's on a hunt, a mission, or in the city. Her hair is often matted and windswept. She does little to control it, save for putting parts into braids, but brings a sturdy comb on hunts. She carries a few tattoos from a tribal village in some other nation, and her bone and stone jewelry, as well as some of her armor is also engraved with culturally relevant patterns. Palomina's eyes are a drab amber, and her left brow is broken by scars of her profession, adding to her hardened look.
Palomina is tall and sinewy for a woman. She is taller than most of the shorter men, standing at an imposing 5' 7", weighing in at 160 lbs in the nude. She carries a weathered greatsword she's been meaning to sharpen for quite some time - she still manages to slay lesser Shadow Beasts easily enough, however, especially with the help of her wild friends. She also carries a steel handaxe, a bone-handled carving dagger, and a pair of hand-made, hand-flighted spears tried and tested personally.
Goal:
Palomina's goal is to advise the world of the uses of wildlife. They are hunted for food, and can be trained to help you. While she does not oppose civic expansion, she urges farmlands be devoted for raising the land's creatures. To her, the most reliable animal, which will fight with a master through thick and thin, with power and grace, is the wolf. She seeks to make the wolf a symbol of loyalty and power or cunning.
Talents:
Palomina's extensive time in the wilderness and with foreign tribes has taught her how to make weapons from bone and stone, and also how to smith. She can easily kill a bear with just her dagger, and then subsequently skin it in record time. She can cook any meat given to her over a spit, and is also a capable herbalist. Finally, she specializes in taming or dominating wild animals, and then guiding them into battle like a small army.
Fears:
Underneath her fearless exterior, Palomina fears age. She is proud of her youth, and of the knowledge and wisdom she has gathered over her life. She also fears being eaten. She is fearless in front of bears, wildcats, wolves, and other beasts which could easily take her for a snack if she wasn't taught to deal with them, but she does not want her body to be some beast's midnight snack - be it a creature or Shadow Beast. Her final fear is the fall of the State. Because of this, she spends most of her time in the Gardeniam Guilds, helping however she can, taking missions whenever they're available to her - part of the reason she hasn't gotten a chance to sharpen her blade.
Personality:
Aligning with her harsh, gruff exterior, Palomina is very touchy and irritable. However, she is also respectful, conscientious, and generous. She can easily hold her tongue to someone who wishes to purchase the services of one of her beasts, so long as they do so without getting angry with her if there is a complication. She can also carry on a neutral, diplomatic, or friendly conversation without verbally gunning someone down. She also regularly donates her rewards to the needy, and is very kind in the company of most children.
However, get on her bad side, and her words can sting for awhile. She is the one person no new person wants in command, simply because she will berate you for the simplest slip up, especially if she has to save your life. However, any smart or learned person wants her to lead a hunt - she knows the world and the target like the color of her eyes.
Secrets:
Palomina isn't one for secrets, but she always dresses very neatly when she visits the family Villa. She would rather avoid the berating lectures she receives from her family when she arrives in hides with a fox following her around - even if the fox would be a hit with the children. She also secretly pays her respects to the gods of her tribal caretakers, but is still an avid follower of the Trinity.
General History:
As a child, Palomina was instructed in militaristic civilization and the like, and about the Shadow Beasts, the foretold "End of Civilization" some idiot mystic from outside the Trinity screamed about. Palomina became highly inquisitive, precocious. She began asking questions and not getting answers. It was maddening - it was this lack of answers that led to her irritable personality, and her leaving home to become a traveler.
At around 11, she finally had become fed up with the unanswered questions and left with a kitchen knife and five days worth of fruit. She soon learned that she couldn't survive on fruit alone, and while she kept eating fruit for hydration, began hunting small animals like rabbits, and eventually made her way North. She was saved from a wolf by an elder tribal hunter from the area she was living in, and adopted part of their culture. They provided her with answers to some of her questions. The tribals did not believe in the Trinity, save for a few, but they all had dealt with enough believers to understand the religion. They spoke about it openly, and without trying to indoctrinate her into their own way of thinking.
She stayed with these peoples for another five years, until she was 16, and finally left them, considered to be a grown woman to them. She headed home and made a small army of animals on the way. She applied for the Hunter's Guild, and pledged animals to sell to other hunters, and after two years, became a well-known huntress and instructor on hunting, taming, and dominating wildlife to assist in battle. She has a well-kept wildlife codex at the Gardeniam HQ, filled with entries on all sorts of wildlife, and a few Shadow Beasts, as well.
