Ellen lowered her weapon as Jack moved in front of her shot. He'd done it purposefully, knowing there would be no other way to get her to comply. He looked Claire in the eyes, seeing the fear deeply lodged in her brittle glare. His eyes shot up to Emil.
"Follow me," he said decisively. Turning on his heel, he headed back into the camp and Ellen followed closely behind. Once inside, the gates were shut behind the group. The camp wasn't as bustling as one might expect from the impressive outer defences but it was well stocked and supplied. To the left a vehicle pool could be seen and straight ahead a large command tower.
"Jack, are you going to be okay?" Ellen asked, stopping in her tracks. The man craned his head to look at her, a reassuring smile on his lips.
"I'll be fine. Get yourself to your watchtower duty..." he instructed firmly. Ellen nodded before disappearing off to fulfill her tasks. After continuing onward, Jack halted outside a large tent with a medical symbol above the entrance.
"Here we are," he declared, gesturing for the two to enter. As they headed inside, he swiftly followed behind. "Alexis! We've got a little girl, blood-splattered face... she needs immediate screening. If she's infected..."
"You should rest, don't overwork yourself. Your body needs time to heal." Those were the words Evie didn't want to hear. Even though she thought she was super-girl, she was still undeniably human. She scratched at her forehead, the frustration at being physically and mentally brittle irritating her to the point she could feel her skin crawl. Evie stared at the cloth roof of the tent, wondering how long she would be laid up for. Hopefully, Maddie would come visit and they could play cards or simply talk - anything to pass the time. She sighed deeply, turning her head to look at Alexis who seemed less than enthused to have to be treating her. In fact, Alexis was wholly focused on her swollen stomach.
"You okay, Alexis?" Evie asked sweetly, a look of concern on her brow. Before the woman could even respond, however, the flap of the tent flung upwards as Jack and two strangers stormed in.
"Alexis! We've got a little girl, blood-splattered face... she needs immediate screening. If she's infected..." Jack announced. Evie sat up her in bed once more, pulling the IV from her arm and dabbing the wound with some cotton wool from the side. She swung her legs around and sat upright, her feet swinging off the side of the bed.
"Is that what the gunshot was about?" Evie queried. Jack merely nodded in response before diverting his whole attention back to Alexis.
