Chase had only actually taken two more muffins from the pile, though the way they were stacked on his plate it may have looked like more. He wasn’t even sure he’d eat the two he had. If he didn’t, though, he suspected he could get away with smuggling them out in a napkin or something. No need for good muffins to go to waste, right?

And with how much food was out, and the number of patients coming to eat, he suspected there might be a little waste when all was said and done.

The salmon flaked nicely as he picked bits of it apart with his fork and popped them in his mouth. Ooo, it was good. Chase allowed himself another smile, picking up one of the bits of roasted potato and sending it after the bit of salmon. Yup. Really good. Nothing like normal hospital food.

Then again. What did I expect? This entire thing hasn’t been exactly standard hospital.

He watched a couple others come in and start getting their own food, and gave a little inviting wave to anyone who glanced his direction. Then realized, after nomming another bit of potato, he probably ought to get a drink. He glanced over the buffet, eyeing the drinks and trying to decide what looked best from here. Also. Holy shit. I can read things from here. which was impressive in its own right.

He hopped up, this time risking going without his cane- he wasn’t going far, after all. He had to put a hand on one of the tables a couple of times, but got to the bit of the tables with the drinks and grabbed a bottle of water and made his way back to his seat. About the same time that he was settling back into his seat, a woman with a cane. He blinked, tilting his head to the side for a moment as if he hadn’t expected to be asked.

”Uh. Yeah. Feel free. Not like I have a monopoly on the table,” he smiled, ”My name’s Chase. But, don’t expect me to be too talkative with all this stuff sitting in front of me.” He motioned slightly to the still-mound of food before him.

Just because he was hungry didn’t mean he ate that quick. A couple bits of asparagus made their way into his mouth, followed by a swallow from the large bottle of water he’d grabbed a moment ago.

He and the rest of the group of patients arrived at a cafeteria setting absolutely filled with food. Blueberry muffins, coffee, mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus--there were even some dishes that he couldn't name! But most of all...There was meat. Oh god, there was meat! For the majority of his life, Desmond had been a vegetarian. When he'd lived with his grandma, they'd have roast or fried chicken every Tuesday and Sunday, but with his mom, they had no meat at all. Some doctor or some health forum had told her that a vegetarian diet was best for cancer patients. Desmond had been too weak-spirited to fight her on the diet and had settled into salads and foods that looked like meat but tasted like lies. Even when he'd gotten healthier, his mom had insisted on the diet so he'd never indulged in juicy, savory, luscious....Meat. A bit of wet in the corner of his mouth caused Desmond to jolt to attention. Geez was he really drooling? He needed to get it together--and pile a plate high with everything that looked like meat.

The man on the intercom was just background music to Desmond on his quest for meat, until one line stuck out to him and he paused. Cured. Cured? "So we are cured?!" He echoed and his query was answered when the intercom guy--Dr. Sawyer encouraged them to enjoy their new lives. To say Desmond was thrilled was an understatement. So waking up not deaf wasn't a fluke! And--He didn't have cancer anymore or emphysema! For the first time since he was six, Desmond was healthy! He wanted to scream from the rooftops! But as there were no rooftops to be found, he settled for pigging out.

Steak, grilled shrimp, kebabs, chicken with some type of brown sauce, mozzarella sticks--Desmond's plate was covered in food and though he initially planned to ignore the veggies, a wave of nostalgia forced him to make a small plate of salad.

"Now to sit..." He looked around the room. He didn't want to sit alone but he didn't know any of these people. He saw two people already sitting together, and approached them. Taking a seat, he beamed at them. "Hey, I'm Desmond." He said cheerfully before tearing into his food. "Oh my god, this is so good!" He groaned as he sunk his teeth into the steak.

Gerry’s question was answered almost immediately, followed by Alice’s confirmation. He always seemed to need another person to confirm he heard right even when he heard it clearly. He wasn’t sure why, he just did. Instinctively he followed her as she mentioned her intentions.

The breadth of variety took him by surprise, it seemed they had a bit of everything one could imagine. He eyed the heartier pieces of meats, starches, and fruits. Before helping himself he quickly scanned along the table, everyone else was helping themselves, so he did too. He added small servings at first thinking to avoid looking gluttonous but his hesitation was largely misplaced and his reticence faded at the sight of everyone else and their apparently similar hunger. Scooping a generous portion mashed potatoes and corn onto his plate he let the pile flow over steaks and bacon strips with a small bowl of gravy. He’d never had so much food before, not that he was wanting, he just wasn’t allowed. Mother said he had a constant weight problem.

Gerry walk after Alice holding two plates of food his demeanor lighter if still reserved. Sitting next to her Gerry unfolded a napkin and placed it on his lap before digging in. With wild abandon he cut pieces that were definitely two bites instead of one, mixed his corn and mashed potatoes, and dipped his bacon in the gravy. He was verging on the edge of lunacy but his mother wasn’t here and he doubted anyone here knew he shouldn’t do that. Still he had occasional moments where he worried his mother was on site and only steps away from witnessing what he’d done. Those brief moments of pure ice were stayed by the logic that if she were around then not even armed security might stop her so she couldn't possibly be around. He chuckled inwardly before sighing heavily then dabbing the sweat from his brow.

Finishing the food in his mouth and made a long display of cleaning his face before he cleared his throat then cleared it again and finally leaning toward Alice and speaking low enough to hopefully only be heard between themselves.

D-Do you think we’re on a space ship? The windows have light coming from them but it’s night outside. Mm...my mother never allowed me to go. S-She says there’s nothing but space junk, scavengers, and pirates there…”, he let the air hang for a moment, thinking over what he said before adding hurriedly “N-N-Not that I believe...I don’t believe that...but I’m not allowed to argue.

That had taken longer than he intended and he felt that depleted feeling again. He stared at his plate as if deciding what to eat next, but really he was just steadying himself until his breath came back and in case she might laugh. Mechanically he cut his steak into pieces, he wasn’t as hungry as before but it made him not seem weird which would definitely have her laughing at him.

Alice didn't take long to fill a good section of the table with the foods and beverages she desired. The further she went along, the hungrier she felt. Honestly, she couldn't remember the last time she had such a huge appetite. That time felt like so long ago. When she was terminally ill, it was extremely difficult getting her to eat, even with the cannabis treatments she was on. In her mind, there wasn't a point to any of her efforts. Not when her life was reduced to just a few more years.

Now was different, though. Blessedly different.

Rather quickly, she claimed the seat closest to her newest friend (hopefully) named Gerry. Once she did, she sighed with relief, already feeling better about no longer standing out in the open. Just enough space was left between her and Gerry to show a respect of personal space. She brought all her foods closer together, too, so there was more room at the table not just for Gerry, but anyone else who might want to sit with them.

Now, she could eat. So that her coffee could have time to cool, she started out by sipping spoonfuls of her chicken noodle soup. After, of course, tossing a handful of oyster crackers into it. The brunette sighed with content by the time she was halfway through the bowl of liquid comfort. Her stomach was feeling more soothed already.
Next, Alice pulled a glass of water in close so she could squeeze some lemon juice into it. During that, she listened closely to the meek voice of the man nearby her. She had to keep her focus on the water more to hide the fact she was half-smiling like an idiot. The man was adorable, for lack of a better word. There had to be a serious reason behind it, she was sure, but that didn't make his presentation any less endearing to her. "Hmm," she hummed thoughtfully, setting down the wedge. Immediately after, she lifted her drink to her lips to hide the sheepish look on her face. A quick break was taken before she finished the whole thing off. Sighing at the end, the cup was set down and she returned her right hand to the spoon in her soup bowl. The other hand reached for one of two tacos she had brought to the table so she could set it beside the soup bowl, where the plate beneath it had some available room. As much as she wanted to get into that, she instead turned her head to set her dark sights onto Gerry. "I uh...think that's exactly where we are," she answered calmly, although it was more of a thick layered disguise to hide how nervous she actually was. The idea of being in outer space absolutely terrified her. "Fortunately, I think we're safe here. This thing we're traveling on seems like a pretty high-end deal-i-o." She nodded with assurance, for herself as much as him.

Sitting up straighter, she continued to look at him with growing curiosity. A few more spoonfuls of her noodle soup were devoured throughout the contemplative moment. Somewhere along the way, too, she found herself dipping a piece of garlic bread into the broth. "Scavengers and space pirates, though... That would be interesting to see," she thought aloud, getting a look in her eye that would suggest she was lost in imagination. For just half a moment, she had a colorful adventure in space with swarthy pirates. Blinking back to reality, she realized how insane of an idea that was. "Although, they...probably aren't anything like the ones I read about in my books, huh?" She finished that question with a full, warm smile, and a small shoulder shrug. A soft chuckle could be heard in her throat, too, before she turned her attention to the broth-soaked bread in her hand. The smile on her face widened as she took bite after bite of it, finishing it down to a piece of crust before she reached for her cup of extra sugary coffee. As she lifted it to her lips, she made glances around the room, noticing that the other patients were getting settled in too. Much like her, and Gerry, most of them were super distracted by their meals. She wasn't at all surprised. Everyone woke up from a long, life-changing nap, after all.

When they all began to eat a smile ran over Dr. Sawyer's face. He himself grabbed a plate and gestured to some of the staff to come over and grab something. They were hesitant but the good doctor was insistent. After all, what harm was some food going to do to them?

Moments pass by as everyone gets their fill, and conversations ensue further. Food workers come in and take the plates and silverware, and just as they leave...

The whole ship shakes as if something jarred it.

Dr. Sawyer stands up before is jars again, knocking people to the floor.

"What is this?!" Someone calls out.

Just as the loud, red alarms come on, you feel you body start to change.

Chase gave Desmond a little wave- talking at the moment would have been rude. Once he had managed to swallow down his current mouthful, he spoke.

”I’m Chase,” he introduced himself, taking a glance over Desmond’s plate and licking his lips a little when he saw mozzarella sticks, ”I know, right? Where’d you see the mozz sticks? Not quite as good as blueberry muffins, but melty cheese is one of those things I get weak over.” He flashed a smile.

His gaze flicked up from his food for a moment, to catch some of the staff grabbing their own food. That brought another little smile in its wake.

I’m glad he values his staff enough to invite them to get in on this too. There’s way too much food for just us to eat…

The ship shaking drew Chase out of his own head and he grabbed the edge of his plate to keep it from sliding off the table. It was something he could control, and so, making sure it stayed off the floor seemed like a good response. It took a moment for him to register that it wasn’t just his balance being fuckered up again, that the entire ship had shaken. The next time sending people to the ground confirmed it, and he found himself glad he was sitting.

Then he flinched. The alarms were piercing, near stabbing into his eardrums and he snapped his eyes closed.

”Ow,” he grumbled out, nudging his plate to the side to thump his head lightly on the table. It was so loud. It didn’t help that a dull ache had rather abruptly settled deep in his bones, it ached in a way he hadn’t ever experienced before. It definitely wasn’t a muscle thing, and it was distracting enough to pull his mind away from the alarms and the ship’s movements.

The infuriating itch on his left ankle didn’t help either.

Chase’s hand slipped off the table, nudging the hem of his pant leg up and he itched at his ankle for several moments, until he felt a bit of skin- it felt more like a scab, really, flake away, caught somewhat infuriatingly under his fingernails. When had he gotten injured there? He brought his hand away, glancing at his hand. Not a scab. Just… skin, it looked kind of like a callus. He flicked it from his finger onto the floor- what else was he really suppose to do with it? Then brought his hand back down to brush over his ankle, making sure he wasn’t… bleeding.

That. That, uh. Doesn’t feel like blood. Or ankle skin.

Chase slid out of his chair, putting his butt on the floor and lifting the edge of his pants to get a better look.

Most definitely not normal ankle skin, or blood.

He had an extra nipple.

On his ankle.

What the hell.

And so, through the alarms and the ensuing pandemonium, Chase Dreiser found himself sitting on the floor staring at a rather sudden extra nipple that had appeared on his ankle, and questioning what the hell exactly was going on.

Kira feasted on the rich foods she'd piled on her plate, at one point even getting more mashed potatoes. She barely noticed anything happening around her, thinking purely with her stomach and even uncharacteristically ignoring her fellow patients. Finally, though, after most others had finished eating, she set her fork down and leaned back a bit with a satisfied, heavy sigh.

Her blue eyes traveled to her companions, and she moved to speak as she started to stand. The words on the tip of her tongue, however, would soon be lost to eternity.

The ship shook and bucked, as if a seizure had taken hold of it. Her body, already unused to being able to move, collapsed to the floor. Just as she started standing up again, it shook again and she yelped. As she smacked into the floor once more, her hearing aids fell out and her ears were seized by a cramping, trembling pain.

Everything went quiet, the only sounds accompanying her a dull blend of roaring klaxons and terrified shouts.

Kira scrambled to grab her aids again, to hear what was going on. She brushed her short brown hair away from her face and moved to push one into her ear, only to find that it didn't fit anymore. The woman scowled and tried the other one, only to find the same results.

She reached up and felt her ears, then blinked several times as she found just how big they had become. "What the hell?" Kira backpedaled, stumbling up to her feet and clutching at them. In doing so, she blocked more of her hearing, however, and ended up dulling the sound of the screaming sirens and any spoken words further.

The woman was too busy panicking about how her ears had suddenly grown to double their normal size to even attempt to pay attention to the happenings around her. Was it even possible to get hearing aids this big? Was this a nightmare?

Would she be able to hear fully ever again?

With a smile Naomi looked around the cafeteria. Had all of these people undergone the same treatment as her? She observed some of them as she dug into her steak. Some of them were talking, others just sitting and eating quietly like her. Her gaze wandered over to the staff members getting plates food of their own. There were more of them than she expected, and Naomi wondered how many of them were actually doctors. Surly, not all of them.

After finishing her steak, Naomi reached for her cup of coffee, which had cooled a bit by then. Good thing too, because just as she pulled the cup to her lips the ship gave a violent shake. Warm coffee spilled over the edge of the cup and splattered against Naomi's pajama-scrub-outfit-thing. She quickly moved to set down her cup, and instinctively gripped onto her table.

Moments later the ship was jarred again, and Naomi's hands- wet from her spilled coffee- slipped. She was sent tumbling to the ground, where she laid until she was confident the ship wouldn't shake again. She blinked a few times, the blaring sound of the alarm almost deafening to the young girl. Carefully, Naomi used her chair to lift herself from the ground.

Once she was on her feet Naomi again looked around the room. It was so crazy to her how quickly things had changed. The florescent lighting had been replaced with a flashing red, and the peaceful atmosphere was completely gone. Naomi moved her hair from her face, and as she pulled her hand back down she noticed a chunk of hair caught between her fingers.

"What the..." She said out loud, though she couldn't even hear herself over the alarm. She squinted to examining the hair in her right hand, before slowly reaching up to her head with the other. She gently gripped some hair at her scalp and lightly pulled. Again, when she looked at her hand she had a chunk of her hair in her slim fingers.

Naomi's eyes widened, and with now shaky hands she kept touching her hair, each time pulling another chunk out. "No, no, no, no," She began to say as she continued, her tone becoming more and more panicked each time she repeated the same word. In a matter of minutes she had a pile of her own hair at her feet. She fell to her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks, as she desperately grabbed at the pile of her soft black hair. What have they done to me!?

CARTER REID
Location: JCMilan1012 - Cafeteria

Patience certainly wasn’t Carter’s strong suit so when he had managed to make it five minutes watching the others eat it was no surprise that he gave into the idea of protesting against his stomach. What the hell was he afraid of? Up until the program he had resigned to the fact that he was ultimately going to die young and way before he was remotely ready for it. He had been utterly terrified of the thought and now he stood with a second release on life and he was so afraid of losing it that he was hesitating over something as small as food with no real evidence of tampering in the first place. Pushing the chair out from the table he inwardly scolded himself as he walked over to the tables of food, his eyes scanning over the plethora of offerings which all seemed as inviting as the other.

He took a plate from the stack of dishes at one end, slowly walking along and plucking pieces here and there. A piece of pork and some crackle, tiny Yorkshire puddings which reminded him winter dinners at Heath’s family home in Cracknell. He found some apple sauce and was in the process of placing a dob onto the side of his plate when he noticed a Doctor out of the corner of his eye along with several staff members who filed along to take plates of food. It set a level of confidence within that he had been silly thinking about the food and turned back, picking up a roll and some gravy before heading back to build himself a roast pork roll before practically inhaling the lot out of hunger. The noises of satisfaction from the other patients had been well warranted as Carter sighed contently once he had finished his meal and sat back to contemplate the gravity of the situation. All of these people were in the same position as he, they all had some ailment which had meant they were on their way out and now all of them with full bellies were looking at a new and undoubtedly long future ahead of them.

Just as he contemplated getting up to search for a drink the ship jolted and shook around them before settling as his breath hitched in surprise. Without much further warning the same motion occurred seconds later which saw multiple persons fall as Carter held onto the table for support and his chair rattled with the motion. Did a spacecraft experience turbulence like planes? He had opened his mouth to ask if the person on the floor near to him was okay but he found his voice obscured by the blaring alarm. Amid the noise of the alarms he felt a small tingle through his limbs, something not at all right. Pushing his chair back from the table he lifted his arms up as he felt the strange sensations over his form, his eyes widening as his skin complexion began to change. Normally olive in tone, his skin appeared to seem somewhat yellow, as though he had jaundice.

“What the hell!”
he yelled as he pulled his shirt upward to see the skin of his torso with the same yellowish glow. What on earth was wrong with him now? He released the material of his shirt as he looked around, spotting a woman in panic as she pulled clumps of her hair from her head in handfuls. Whirling around to eyeball the Doctor he had seen earlier, his brow furrowed as his expression grew dark. Pointing him out with little hesitation Carter growled “YOU! What the hell have you done to us!?”

Mealtime was pleasant for a good while. Little by little, Alice made her way through her assortment of food. During the mini feast, she let her mind get taken away by what random fantasies and anxious thoughts came up. That's what tended to happen when she had company as quiet as she was. Not that she minded. Silence could be comforting in its own way. Especially when she had no idea what to talk about.

That comfort was about to meet a painfully abrupt end, however...

Since the empty dishes got cleared away, Alice was left with her halfway gone cup of coffee, and her slice of cake. With her sights on the cake, she brought her cup to her lips, intending to take her time finishing that off until the ship was jostled. It shook roughly enough to make her freeze in place, except for her eyes, which were darting in every direction manageable. Frantically, she searched for any sign of what caused the ship to rattle, but then she was shaken a second time. DANGER! MOTHERFUCKING DANGER, she screamed in her mind. This instance, everything shook hard enough to throw the brunette out of her seat, her coffee flying out her hands to who knows where. She yelped prior to landing, with a whimper to follow as she fell on her arm. The pain of that mingled with her anxiety sent her on a trip to Dizzyville. The world around her was spinning and people were crying out in fear for what was happening. It was madness; it was a nightmare come to life.

"Ow..." Alice snapped out of her dizzy state as an emergency alarm screamed into her ear. Although a frightening sound, it alerted her enough to get her into action. With a sickly groan, she pushed against the floor with both hands, learning along the way that her arm was bruised but, thankfully, not broken. That was the only piece of good news her brain had for her, though. It was easily dominated by the many pieces of bad news she picked up from the cafeteria conundrum. Alice sat upright, unsure of what to make of the scenes ahead of her. There were unconscious employees, broken dishes, overturned chairs, panicking medical patients such as herself... "Oh CRAP w-w-www--! ... W-What is--!?" Incomplete words came out in dramatic, heavy exhales. She sounded on the verge of hyperventilating. Between that infernal alarm buzzing and the puzzling events transpiring around her, it felt impossible to stay calm, let alone form a complete sentence.

In her apprehensive state, Alice scrambled to get underneath the nearest table. She crouched down low to the floor like a timid puppy, her right hand rubbing over the sore spot of her left arm while heavy, shaking breaths fell from her lips. Tears streaked down from each eye while she hesitantly observed the chaos from beneath the table.

At least, until something else got her attention. Something...unusual. Something that just...did not feel right. Something in her...feet?

"H-Huh?" Sudden discomfort built up in her toes, specifically. Each individual one had annoying tingly sensations at the tips. Additionally, her disposable shoes felt increasingly smaller. Alice wished that was where the weirdness ended, but it wasn't. In her chest and her throat, changes were happening as well. With each deep breath she took, she noticed her lungs felt...different, in some way. Different as in... Stronger, maybe? Alice already did have impressive lung strength from being a singer, and being a marijuana smoker, but gods she didn't know it could reach a new level like this. What she did know was that her heavy breathing was coming out harder than it normally would. Hard enough that when she placed her hands over her trembling lips, she could literally blow them off if she didn't press more firmly. Well, that was new... "Whatthefuck," the sobbing woman hissed through her teeth, hesitantly lowering her hands from her face. There would be no hiding behind them right now, evidently.

"Oooh nononono," she exhaled in panic, dropping to sit on her ass with her legs straightened out. Reaching across, her shaking digits went to remove the coverings on her feet, one eye staying closed the whole time while the other was just half open. Needless to say, Alice was scared to see what awaited her. Unfortunately, it was not good. Right when her eyes opened to focus on her toes, she was jolted by dread and confusion. "WHAAAAAAAA!?" With her shriek of horror came a violent body spazz that made it look like her upper half wanted to escape from her lower half. Her feet were kept at a distance while her arms flailed to the opposite direction, knocking at the bottom of the table as they did. At the same time, she watched the unexpected results of her unintentionally loud yell. A yell so loud that the chair across from her went flying to another part of the cafeteria. It was carried over by soundwaves that punched through the air in a straight line until she clicked her jaw shut. The woman's brown eyes widened as far as her face would allow. And once the chair crashed to the floor, the loud impact made her shrink down while she threw both hands over her mouth and sobbed harder. Thank goodness no one got hurt or else she would feel ten times worse. With that in mind, her fingers pressed against her skin tightly for fear of releasing another blast, because what if she wasn't so lucky next time?

Alice stared in disbelief for a few seconds before returning her widened gaze to her feet. There, her toenails were growing before her very eyes! On top of that, they already reached a fairly ridiculous length. They might as well be human talons with the way they were looking.

Sniffling loudly, she brought her knees up to tuck them against her body. When she looked away from her feet, she didn't like the alternative sights much better. Everything was a total catastrophe and everyone was changing in some strange way. Keeping her hands firmly over her mouth, her tear-filled eyes searched for any clue for what in the world was happening. So far, this was making absolutely zero sense, on top of the possibility that they were in some kind of danger. It was just her luck that disaster would strike just after she told someone they would be safe... Idiotface.

Gerry prodded at his meal and as Alice considered the idea of pirates. She seemed to genuinely consider the idea rather than mock him, her added reassurance made him ease his shoulder slightly. He didn’t suppose they would be as fantastic as that, maybe not at all. Although he had never honestly seen a picture of a pirate that he could recall and scarcely an incident he could remember from the news. Then again mother was very strict about his news intake. Mostly trash, she would insist. How would she know unless she watched it herself? Gerry lingered on his thoughts a moment longer before remembering she had asked a question and snapped back. His thought train had halted so abruptly he could only manage a simple “No.” before clamming up once more.

Alice’s smile let him know he hadn’t flubbed that too badly but he still felt like he needed to excuse himself. Conveniently it seems he had forgotten to grab something to drink so he used that to allow himself an egress. Sliding out of his seat he gave a flash of what he could manage of a smile to Alice and walked back toward the food tables. Shoulders hunched and head down, he bee lined for the beverages. A sudden jolt shifted the floor beneath him and he stumbled forward banging his knee on the floor, branding a hot pain throughout his entire joint.

What the HELL…?!”, Gerry croaked aggressively, baffling himself.

Biting back pain Gerry eased himself to himself up favoring his hurt knee. A second jolt pitched him to the side into the corner of a nearby table. It found him solidly in the ribs and the pain that followed spread out in a flash, followed by a slow burn that blurred the world around him. Somewhere in his head alarms cried out alongside everyone else. He felt his chest tighten and his air draw thinner and thinner. Gerry’s head lolled forward, eyes glazed and expression blank. In the panic and pain he receded into somewhere he felt safer.

As the sirens blared and others scrambled Frank’s eyes came into focus. He felt like shit and he could tell he’d been sober for a good couple of days. He looked at the absolute crapshoot around him grimaced. The hell is this, Gerry?”, he thought. Rising he felt the ache in his knee and ribs which caused him to take stock of those in his immediate vicinity. He wasn’t currently fighting anyone that he knew of but you never know. He spotted a group of people scattered around the entire room, some dressed like him and others dressed like doctors and nurses. He eyed a pretty brunette at the most immediate table crying her eyes out. She wasn’t the only freak out, everyone was losing their god damned minds and… changing.

Frank took it all in and decided he was pissed, he just needed to find what he could be pissed at. Time to find answers.Anyone mind tellin’ me wha’tha hell’s goin’ on?!, he bellowed against the sirens. Turning toward the man in a white coat he saw earlier he pointed at him, Hey doc, whaaa...eh?. Frank brought his arm up to his face and saw his shirt sleeve was tight around his whole arm. The whole shirt, no, all of his clothes were shrinking and starting to stink for some reason. ...the fuck?, Frank muttered. His clothes continued to tighten and the smell slowly got worse until finally stopping, tearing at the seams but still mostly whole. And that smell, like something nasty he had smelled once before but then never again.

Looking around he realized everyone had shrunk, not just his clothes. He didn’t get why it happened but he knew he didn’t like it. Having drummed up a decent anger and nowhere to use it, Frank sat on the floor glumly, though now he easily matched the height of others in their seats. He looked around glumly and spotted the brunette. Uh...Hey babe, you uh… you alright?, he attempted to be gentle but gentle was Gerry’s game and he had run out of ideas already. Frank sighed and waited.

The sounds of the alarms started to tapper off and started a slow hum of a rhythm.

As the staff tried to garner up some courage, one of them just panicked.
"Oh god, they found us didn't they?! We are all going to d--" His sentence was stopped by the force of a slap that only a doctor could give. "Get ahold of yourself, Preston!" The much scrawnier, blonde security guard held his now reddened cheek. But he was silent. As was the rest of the staff, who now look upon the patients with a cautious and concern batch of looks. They changed. Some drastically, some just a little third nipple action. Either way, they were all starting to focus on Dr. Sawyer and the older gentleman did his best to adjust his coat and put on a new pair of glasses.

"Ahem, ladies and gentleman, while the side effects you are experiencing are unfortunate...I think it might be best if we make out way out of the Northern exit and start to make out way towards the escape pods. There is a lot between here and there, so I suggest we start moving, before the choice is no longer left to us." He gestured to the staff and then to the patients. "Lets go! Chop chop!"

Moments later they were all moving down one of the main hallways to the wing. Emergency crews were running about trying to do what they could. Fires needed to be doused and holes needed to be plugged. The previously pure white was replaced with an almost grumpy red as the main source of manipulated light.

Seattle_Public_Library_4th_floor_2A.jpg

The staff doing their best to comfort the patients, and answer any questions they could. Truth be told, they were all as flabbergasted. They were happy that the conditions were cured but did not see the after effect coming in the slightest. Dr. Sawyer was leading the way to safety in the front as everyone else fell in behind. Swipe after swipe, the man's key card opened the doors to their impending freedom. More explosions and screams could be heard throughout the trip. You get the feeling someone is watching you. Through the cameras. Windows. Perhaps even from within the group.

A small honk sounds off, telling the Doctor that his card would not open the doors to the hangers.
"Hm. I may need to head up to control for an override. I will be back shortly. Stay calm, and I will get you all out of here." With that, he slips through a side door and out of sight.

Kira's heart was thudding in her chest, struggling to escape the prison of her ribs...as if that would help her to calm down. Somehow, though, she ended up glancing up to the doctor as he began to speak, and even as she strained to hear his voice over the dulled chaos, she could see his lips moving. Despite being in a frenzy, she caught the gist of his sentence and began to stand, finally taking her hands from her grown ears and folding her fingers over the now useless hearing aids in her hand.

The woman, eyes locked ahead of her on the back of the doctor's head just in case he were to speak again, didn't even really pay attention to where they were going. All she knew was that the klaxon, still ringing above them, was uncomfortably loud. Kira half wondered how the others were faring with the noise, then shook her head to rid it of the thought. The more she walked, the tenser she got, and she found her eyes straying from the doctor to the cameras lining the impossibly smooth walls. They were following her, it seemed like, and she scowled at them deeply, her shoulders bunching like a threatened animal.

A second later, she jumped and let out a small yelp as a hand clapped down on her shoulder. She whirled, short brown hair pluming out at the movement, and stared for a moment before it registered. The person that had touched her was a nurse, and Kira let out a breath of relief before pulling away.

The nurse asked something, but she didn't catch the lip movement in the pulsing light, and Kira simply shook her head, showing the hearing aids and then turning away. The nurse still walked beside her despite that.

After what seemed like an hour of walking through the red-bathed halls, the group stopped. From her position in the back, Kira stood on her tiptoes and peered over the heads of her fellow patients, squinting to try and make out what the doctor was saying. From what she could tell, though, his card wasn't working.

The woman scowled at that and pushed her way through the crowd, making her way to the terminal. She didn't know exactly why she thought she'd be able to solve the problem, but she did. As she got there, it was as if her hands moved themselves. She reached out and pulled the front of the terminal straight off, discarding the metal and plastic to the side and then peering inside. A tangle of wires and the motherboard greeted her, and she squinted for a few seconds before reaching in and simply pulling a few wires loose.

The doors slid open once she pulled her hand away, revealing the hangar beyond. Kira blinked, her blue eyes clearing, and then jumped back with a startled expression."Did I do that?" she asked, her voice bewildered.

Alice intended to stay perfectly still until it made sense to do otherwise. Minus the anxious shivers that rattled her form, she stayed upright with the top of her head pressing against the bottom of the table. She felt somewhat squished with the way her shoulders had to hunch and her knees had to stay bent, but that was far more favorable than being out there.

The next step would have been to detach herself from reality, for this was more stress than her brain could handle. Just as the colors of the world started blurring together and the background noise became fainter, her attention was grabbed suddenly by an oddly appealing combination of scent and sound. "Hm?" A familiar, yet unfamiliar, voice crawled its way to her mind: “Uh...Hey babe, you uh… you alright?” This had to be Gerry, right? She so far didn't converse with anyone else more than she did with him. Besides that nurse, of course, but this wasn't a female voice. Now if only she understood why he managed to sound unlike himself. There was extra bass to his tone, and the emotions were colored with blue frustration, plus a touch of endearing awkwardness. Even in crisis, Alice was quick to analyze people's tones. That came from growing up around too much abusive yelling. What nagged at her more than this mystery was her question toward the strong, hard-to-ignore odor that traveled from the person speaking from her. An odor that, strangely, reminded her of Limburger cheese and onions mingling their scents with dank marijuana.

With her fingers tightly pressed over her mouth, she hesitantly peeked past the table. Alice wondered why Gerry specifically smell like the lunchtimes she used to spend at her friend's, but also drug dealer's, house on some weekends? That interest was then overpowered by the shock of Gerry's new height. In all likelihood, he didn't hear her loudly mumble his name against the palms on her mouth. It was painfully loud in this room. Still, not so painful that she couldn't witness what sat near her table. All over again, her eyes widened to their fullest so she may take in the impossible sight. So much about him was... Different. Not just physically, either. Something about him wasn't quite the same personality-wise. That timidness from before seemed completely gone now.

Alice didn't take the time to wonder much further than that or to ask him what was going on. She got distracted by the prominent voice of the doctor as he tried to calm people down and direct them to another part of this spacecraft. Even though she wanted to cower back under the table, she knew she had to act. This was a life-or-death emergency! Rigidly, she removed herself from the hiding spot, her hands hesitantly coming from her mouth. The outlines of her fingers were clear on her skin from how hard she pressed into it. Her lips formed a frown as she looked at her toes, the nails still slowly growing to a ridiculous length. Rather than focus on that, she pushed against the floor with her hands and feet so she could rise. With a wobble to her steps, she headed to the exit pointed out by the doctor. The floor felt horribly cold against her feet, but there wasn't time to worry about that.
Along the way, she glanced over to the man she had been dining with only moments ago. There was desperation in her eyes, communicating the words she could not speak: Please, we have to hurry.

When she reached the group, Alice wrapped a set of fingers around each upper arm. Doing so helped her feel more secure, and it simulated a light form of affectionate comfort. Somewhere along the way, a security guard got in step with her. Having spotted her in a hysterical state, he followed a nurse's suggestion to keep an eye on her. He even went so far as to drape his coat over her shoulders. Immediately, she grabbed at the flaps of the jacket to pull it around her more tightly. "Th-Th-Thank you," she managed to whisper, for she was too afraid to speak any louder than that.

With a drained expression on her face, she looked down at the floor and more or less put her brain on auto-pilot. She followed the footsteps of the man walking alongside her but blocked out everything else. The constant kabooms, screams, bright lights, and alarm sounds were chipping away at her sanity little by little.
Alice returned to reality, however, when a concerning buzzing sound got her attention. One that indicated a door would not be opening for them. Worriedly, she watched the doctor while silently hoping they would meet some success. During that, she became increasingly aware of their suspicious surroundings.

...Was someone watching them?

Gulping nervously, she lowered her head, intending to avoid anyone's gazes the best she could. At most, she glanced up enough to see one of the fellow patients moving forward to examine a terminal next to the door. People moved aside to let her pass, including Alice, who stole a look at her as she passed by. She was a lovely looking person, and...she seemed to know exactly what she was doing. Curiosity inspired the anxious woman to lift her head up enough to watch Kira work. She didn't exactly have a front row seat, but she could see enough past a space between the shoulders of a couple people. In no time at all, the brilliant lady got the door open! The sight made her mouth gape for a few seconds until the memory of that crashing cafeteria chair came up, prompting her jaw to click shut. How on Earth did she do that!? Alice might ask if Kira herself wasn't so confused by her actions. All she could do was make slow, affirmative nods, as if to answer both of their questions of did that seriously just happen?

One after another, unexpected surprises kept revealing themselves.
