Putting together a big science fantasy idea. This was mostly Inspired by media like Final Fantasy series, FireFly, the Broken Empire series, Star Wars, Borderlands, and Hyper Light Drifter...

The Setting!

The world is basically built upon a science fiction world's destruction. The roleplay would be an adventurous one with action, exploration, survival, and archaeology...

It's suggested that a great war happened several centuries ago... 'Why?'- and 'between who?'- are a bit of a mystery.

Most try to get on with their meager existence and don’t have luxuries of worrying about the ‘why’s and ‘if’s.The ones that ‘do’ care are generally the historians, ‘sorcerers’, and other intellectuals living closer into the kingdoms that have the luxury of free time.

A majority of people live in less than favorable conditions- agrarian cultures surrounding kingdoms built by themselves with less than favorable tech. The lucky live within walls of small kingdoms scattered few and far between, and the less than fortunate live in the wastes and wilderness- scavenging for their living.

What remains of the ruins of the ancient civilizations are now just part of the topography- old skyscraper structures, temples, and what appear to have been war machines or giant mechanical constructs poke up from the ground. All covered in trees or recovered greenery, and decades of dirt.

Everything else is vast wasteland and wilderness. People don't often go out, because the ones that do- aren't normally seen again. Especially at night. The areas between kingdoms are generally lawless areas that you do not go in unprepared- for fear of imminent death. If you don't get lost, starve or dehydrate... Frightful beasts, and highwaymen tribes roam the wilderness and wastes.

Where do the player Characters come in?

'Nomads', 'Wanderers', 'Drifters', 'Mercenaries' and 'Scavengers'. They are the ones that search for relics, and ancient bits of technology... Scouting out ruins for valuable resources... mercenaries protecting caravans from kingdom to kingdom...

These adventurers take up the life of selling information, technology, relics, and other scavenged goods for a living. Learning, and even sometimes coveting their findings. Most of them live in the vast areas between known civilizations.

The story would start in a central 'city', where nomads gather for necessary trades, etc... And overheard a crier in the market- asking for able bodied folks to uncover truth to a rumor found by the Librarian Society (A sorcerer's society of historians and other intellectuals. Well known for their technological discoveries). That there would be something found within specified monoliths found around the world- keys that would unlock the mysteries of the past- and bring the world back to prosperity.

Magic is a thing! Despite how rare it is to see harnessed by a person, it's an integral part of society's architecture, engineering, and infrastructure.

I'm going to leave personal abilities up to the player for the most part. But-
Two types of magic- one is more sorcerer like: natural ability. These are incredibly rare. They are the people who can use magic without catalysts. Healers, ESPers, elemental mages...

There is also crystal-based magic- harnessed in technology, and arcane study. Magic is 'cast' through crystals as a catalyst, but requires a large amount of focus, and study to use properly. Some study them like engineers- building technologies powered by these crystals- like firearms, blaster weapons, automatons, machines... others study them for personal use, unlocking powerful abilities {elemental magic, kinetic magic, etc] and information.

Crystal based magic is also used as generators for power in cities and other technology requiring it.

Most 'technology' is a mix between medieval and futuristic. Depending on tech levels available of the areas- some could be less advanced than others.

It is common to see people wearing non-synthetic clothes, and armors... metal and wood tools, etc. Beasts of burden (even the fantasy kind!), draft animals, cut stone, wood, and thatch architecture.

There also exists some fun technologies- computer systems, security systems, elevators, lights....

also: hoverbikes, flying machines (Few and far in between)

"Blasters", or Energy weapons (pistols, rifles that fire plasma bolts. powered by rechargeable or disposable crystals. Automatic fire is available to some).
++ There 'are' ballistic weaponry- however they are usually seen as inefficient. Also incredibly rare and expensive to keep up on.

"hard-light" weaponry-[spoili] (phase shifted hard Light- or ‘solid light’. The hilt of the weapon holds a nearly lost technology to emit a beam of light in a predetermined shape- and then solidify. Appearing like crystal, or glass that has a very soft glow of whatever color the blade happens to be.These weapons are near indestructible, don’t lose their edge, and have a very strong cutting power. The beam of light can be deactivated, dissipating the blade. This frees up the wielder from having to wear a scabbard, and deal with the ‘weight’ of a steel weapon). The crystal within the weapon needs to be changed or charged periodically to keep working.[/spoili].

These are only examples of some techs.

The races of this world are vast- however there's a human majority. It's surmised that they were the majority indigenous species on the continent.

Other races are all humanoid for the most part...

Well, let me know what you think!

Hey~hey~!!

Interested^^

Ill leave the world building to the brain headed folks :3 I just wanna play a charrie bruh!!

But! This is what matters to the Boo Girlie! Regular rundown: what is posting level, post frequency, max. number of RPers, can we play multi charries, is there dice/stats use?

And like level with me here: is there gunna be like massive amounts of textbooks equivalent lore required reading to join up in this RP and make a charrie app cuz ughs! Boo sooooo allergic to Homework >:[

Hi @Boo Girlie BoomBoom

Yeah i'm planning on making everything shortened, i'm just trying to figure out a way to summarize it well enough to keep it in the realm of what I envisioned, as well as allowing it to be more free-flowing and creative for the players xD. It's a lot of text to read here now, but the next time you look it'll probably be greatly shortened :P

I'm looking for intermediate posting level (give or take), and posting at least once a week (with flexibilities ofc). I'd like one character per writer. maybe 4-5 maximum writers.

Hello! This sounds really cool, I'd like to join up :)

I'll drop a line of intereSt. Mostly to see what inspiration strikes me. Expect a close combat specialist, or a gunslinger more than likely.

I may also experiment with a non human race. Something that may suggest more of a mutation or a branching off. Likely related to height or physical build. With a correlation to lower or average intelligence as a tradeoff for brutish size and ability. For a close combat specialist.

Or vice versa someone with very quick abilities to process and act. Relying on dexterity and quick thinking to survive. Trading away physical hardiness. In the case of a gunslinger.

I expect low tech is more common. Firearms, both ballistic and laser ate among the forefront of the common man arsenal. Along with augmented melee weapons. However I expect higher levels of tech exist out in the world.

@Bismarck
yup. Low tech is pretty much the mainstream. As far as weapons go, most people in the wastes likely carry a steel spear, or conventional melee weapon. At best- a chargeable blaster pistol or rifle, too.

Maybe have a 'mount' of some sort depending on their normal territory that they live (horse, camel, giant lizard, chocobo :P). Or if they generally do 'long haul' kinda scavenging.

If you're thinking for your character ideas- Characters may have a high tech item or two, but they'd probably have a good story on how they got whatever it is they had. Most wanderers who have tech also know how to service their tech- as the harsh conditions shorten the lifespan of both the user- and their equipment without proper care. Another reason why lower tech would be more mainstream in the wastes/wilderness.

For instance, I'm going to be piloting a character. They are going to have a hard- light sword, and a blaster pistol that's chargeable (can fire a certain amount of shots before needing to 'cool' for several seconds). They have the pistol because they were fortunate enough to afford a cheap weapon after a few successful scavenges while younger. The hard-light blade is a relic they found in a peculiar ruin, and after figuring out it was an advanced weapon- decided it would be put to good use- rather than selling it or trading it for high value. They also have a companion in the form of a 'Strider'- a large flightless bird used much the same way a horse or mule would. It allows him to travel quicker, and also carry a little more than he would by just wearing a large pack or something... shameless theft of the 'chocobo' design.. lol

Certainly neat. I guess I should ask, while firearms are viewed as "not-effective", where do they stand in the level of how common they are, and how far along they were able to progress. I ask, since if I were to approach that idea of a brutish CQC character, I can envision a large blade, or warhammer. Along with firearms might be easier for him to understand and use, over high-tech items like laser pistols and what not. Not an entirely important question, as it only has a small impact, but one that's still relevant on the character design.

Sure. I mean if your character is going to be a melee fighter, they could still have a ranged weapon. Survival at any cost. Big guys are bigger targets after all.

Ballistic weapons would be considered less efficient, only because they require bullet ammuniton. Which means more weight, space taken up. Still effective, but less accurate. As far as asthetics, this is a sci fantasy, so it need not (and likely wouldn't be) real world model weapons. Probably nothing fancy looking... But I'd imagine a wide variety would be available. Semi automatic and single fire would be more abundant due to rarity of ammunition. I'm not trying to put too many constraints to allow some imagination on the writers part.

If I don't get another interested party in a few days, would you three be okay if I kicked off the OOC discussion/character submits?

That sounds good to me!

Oh well just tag me if a sign up thread goes up.

My motive for expressing interest is very shallow;

I want one.

Also, to what degree does artificial intelligence exist? If it does.
Yo! Glad you're interested. Hoverbikes inddeed >:). But hopefully you're actually interested in the RP, as well.

AI 'can' exist. Didn't actually think about that. I'd say it doesn't exist "anymore" in the form of cybernetics or droids/robotics. However AI computer systems can still be found deep within ruins. Only saying this because AI has some fun stuff in the world's background- and why it doesn't exist in the capacity anymore.

that said, if you're still interested- i'll get working on an ooc!

Eeeeeeee just wanna say this sounds amazingggg <3333 and mostly want in because magical cowboys are irresistible :D

Will genetic modifications like pseudo-lycanthropy be permissable??

@Chuuchi
Hop on over to the ooc. Let me know if you have questions, I'm happy to answer any/all!
