    ABRAXAS, played by @kaleidoscopique

Name: Abraxas (though he goes by many pseudonyms)
    Age: vv old.
Current Human Form: Look at above picture
Demon Form: Full demon form is composed of flame, and not very practical for life on Earth

Powers: fire manipulation, heightening human emotions, immortality, terrible fashion choices. Breaking a deal with him condemns your life to his hands, and your soul to hell for all eternity.

Bio: Abraxas was, in the underworld, considered an oddball. Some of his traits are characteristic to his status as a major demon. He enjoys pitting people against each other and playing on their desires. He's pretty terrifying when he wants to be, and is certainly not above sadism. On the other hand, he always found the whole fire-and-brimstone thing boring, and he doesn't have much use for 'right' and 'wrong'. He's also entirely too undignified and childlike for an ancient immortal being. He is easily bored, and in constant search of new stimulants. He ran away in search of an adventure, and he was slacking off so badly at the the job of torturing the damned that nobody bothered to summon him back home. To be honest, they're enjoying the peace and quiet. After twelve years of travel, he settled in Lyon.

Abraxas runs an exclusive, word-of-mouth-only casino-club-hotel thing in the city's underbelly, which caters to its client's every whim. Many can't remember how long they've been there, and have long ago stopped caring. His staff are bound by an unbreakable contract after falling prey to a bad deal, and he treats them somewhere between circus troop and motley family. While he has little power against a vampire or an old witch, Abraxas has a lot of useful people in his pocket from all stripes of life. He's too caught up in his own little domain (and obsessive hobbies) to take an interest in the outside world unless he has to. Jackson, his hapless human assistant, is charged with the nearly-impossible task of passing him off as human. He's pretty bad at differentiating current trends from, say, the 18th century. He also gets excited about things like revolving doors.

    JACKSON TRIGGS, played by @kaleidoscopique

    Name: Jackson Triggs
    Age: 46
    Role: NPC
Occupation: Former insurance agent, current PA to Abraxas
Bio: Jackson used to see himself with two kids and a white picket fence somewhere in Virginia. He certainly never expected to find himself babysitting a demon. Heck, he didn't even believe in the existence of demons. Then he asked the wrong man for help with his lustreless love life, and didn't follow through on his end of the bargain. Suddenly, he was yanked forcibly into a supernatural underworld. The past five years in Abraxas' company feel like a surreal dream, and while it hasn't all been good, it had certainly been interesting. He is practical, and informative about how humans work, and Abraxas finds his conservatism amusing. When the demon left America, so did Jackson. He'd always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower anyway. Not that he had much of a choice.

    REMY GAUTHRON, played by @kaleidoscopique
    Name: Rémy Gauthron
Age: 275 (youngish for an immortal being, but still old enough that he should be a little more competent)
    Role: NPC

Occupation: Former guardian angel to Katrina, currently eking out odd jobs and attempting to stay under the radar of humans.

Bio: Rémy was cast down to Earth when he failed to prevent Katrina's untimely death. He had always lagged far behind his peers in angelic abilities, and this was the last in a line of botched jobs. He's clumsy, and cowardly, and even though his heart's in the right place, it hasn't been enough. He's desperate to prove himself and be reinstated. At the moment, though, it's taking all his energy simply to avoid ending up in a human trophy cabinet.

  • -Angels, like their underworld counterparts, vary greatly in strength and species. Wings are a common factor. Inherent angelic goodness, however, is a human misconception.

-While demons are charged with overseeing death, angels are responsible for life. They're supposed to keep each other in check, to prevent people from dying before their time, to help the recently-departed with their journey to the afterlife. Lost spirits who remain on Earth are the result of screw-ups.

-Like demons, angels cannot die in the mortal sense, but they can be destroyed by powerful magic.

  • -'Demon' is the collective term for a creature born of the underworld. From hellhounds, to imps, to fire demons (like Abraxas), it encapsulates a broad array of creatures. Each has a clearly-defined role in the underworld hierarchy.

-Death is supposed to be a one-way thing, and so most have never been to Earth; it takes a great deal of determination and creativity to clamber up. However, they can be summoned to the mortal plane with the use of magic, or magicked objects, in combination with their name. Some demons have found a place in human history.

-Demon interactions are regulated by codes and rules as old as time; pacts and bargains and oaths carry great weight.

-Since they are born into the world of the dead, they cannot die, but there are ways to wipe them out of existence.

-Azerath - The first female Volkarian vampire, queen of the undead.

bienvenue à la ville de ténèbres

9438277_img-8439.jpg

Lyon has been around since the Roman Empire, and while their numbers have risen and fallen, it's always been home to a cast of supernatural denizens. Its witch coven is among the oldest in France. In the past, the creatures of the night confined themselves to dark corners and the meeting place between superstition and myth.

Recent changes in the human world have given them more room to breathe. The advent of the internet has made it harder to conceal immortality, and the government officially recognized the existence of the supernatural twelve years back. Since then, France fell into disrepair as witch hunts and fear became foremost in the public mind. The social security net disintegrated, and some factions of supernatural creatures took advantage of the chaos to seek power. At present, the human government is fractured, and while they're nominally still in charge, disorder and squabbling covens rule most of the country. The politicians retreated to Paris, along with most of the army.

Lyon has a human puppet mayor, but power currently lies in the hands of the witches. However, it's all they can do to keep control. Murder and creature trafficking run rampant in the city, bands of armed humans roam the streets at night in search of a fight, and inequality is at an all-time high. This free-for-all attracts people of all stripes who thrive on lawlessness.
