@spoopily Character two accepted! Awesome race

@CrimsonMaiden Accepted as well :) Love it so pretty and cute

@Demonesqu Sure xD The link in the character section is to the post itself, so any changes won't do any wrong to the link

Also, I expect the IC to be up either tomorrow or latest wednesday. I am pondering about the possibility of multiple arcs that can be simultaneous or overlapping. The reason is so far there are much more players than I had expected(which is awesome), so I will have to figure that out

The first arc will definitely be everyone together doing something so we can all get used to our characters and each other xD

Still accepting?

I've got an idea for a gunner-type tech specialist.

Yup, feel free to post your character when it is ready :bouncy:

No problem, the role play will be in the style that anyone even later on will be able to join too

I am thinking I will probably play the Varia officers and clients that come in, so I probably won't have my own "character" character in case anyone was wondering why I hadn't posted mine xD

And I will probably "be" the dungeon and/or boss during missions/quests

I have edited the needed Skills to Sophia! I am so ready for this RP @_@

@Kalista Ah, thank you! :)
I can't wait for the IC thread to start and to get to know the other beastly characters here~!

@Mistress Accepted! Just a minor thing, but I assume she is human? I figure sorceress could be more like combat style or describing what sort of human she is, but if you meant a sorceress race, that is fine too, but would be nice to have some info on it :)

Thanks!
I added some info on her race.
I hope that helps!

Here we are, the gun-slinging, magical-tech specialist.

Hopefully I didn't go too nuts with all the gadgets he has and how they work. I wanted to try something different as we already have a bunch of swordsmen and casters it seems. :L

Feedback is welcomed! I'm serious! Tell me what you think :D

Edit: Added a little tid-bit about this ether stuff he uses.

Name:
Kendric Silvers

Gender:
Male

Age:
27
Race:
Human

Appearance:
78o1W.jpg

*Pictured with "Eagle Eye" goggles and MagiGauss.

Personality:
Cool, calm and calculating; three words that Kendric uses to describe himself. Dedicated and extremely results oriented, and as such if he is tasked with something he will see it through to an end. However, he is equally as serious. When there's a job to be done, Kendric is all "no nonsense, no games." He is notoriously meticulous when it comes to preparation and exploration. Whenever there's a job, he makes it his duty to ensure that his entire team has the proper supplies, and this often includes a check list of "necessities" of near obscene length. He has a bad habit of trying to micro-manage people. When exploring, he forces "encourages" his team to exercise the utmost caution while maintaining the highest level of efficiency, even if his team would rather do things another way. He never takes any action without first assessing the risk vs reward.

Remaining ever calm under pressure, Kendric believes himself to be a great leader and as such he always tries to take control of the situation. He really dislikes it when people second guess his judgement or disobey his commands. Even with a few short comeings, Kendric is as reliable and dependable as they come. If a comrade falls victim to a trap or monster he failed to notice, he believes it to be folly on his own part. Whether he's keeping an ever vigilant eye out for traps, telling allies where to hit a monster where it really hurts, Kendric makes it his number one goal to be an asset to any team.

Most of his free time is spent studying old texts, geography and basically anything else that will aid in dungeon exploration. He also frequently spends time trying to create new tools and gadgets to further that will save someone's life down the line. He doesn't have much of a sense of humor and he has a bad habit of over analyzing people. While a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, he does loosen up eventually. He is a firm believer that magic under the application of science is soon to outdate "primitive spell casting".

Edit: He despises bounty hunting or clients who wish vengeance. When asked to take such a job he'll reply with "I'm a member of Varia, not a mercenary."

History:
Kendric has always been an overachiever. Growing up in Aristos, he's always had access to some of the finest education, and he has always taken advantage of that fact. Since an early age, Kendric has dedicated himself entirely to his education determined to be the best he could be. All his effort was always shown in the results of whatever exam he had. If there was something he didn't understand, he learned it.

He didn't have a whole lot of friends growing up, not that he minded at all. As time passed, he always strode to be the best of the best. He was easily able to get into all the best schools on grades and merit alone. He graduated from the best school in Aristos, double majoring in technology and magical studies. The majority of his studies revolved around the application of crystal ether being used as an energy source. After a little over a year's wprth of arduous labor, Kendric was able to harvest the fruit of his diligence. He not only was able to improve existing methods for using ether, but he found that he could "program" pieces of crystal ether.

One of his earliest projects with this newfound knowledge was something he called the Ether Zeitgeist Display or "EZ-display". The EZ-Display was just a chunk of crystal ether that he programmed to display a holographic, interactive interface. This EZ-Display was not only capable of displaying information, but storing it and recording it as well. This gave birth to the "EZ-Map", a device which in theory would automatically gather, store and display geographical and topographical data on the surrounding environment. Funding however, was a problem for Kendric.

He sent his idea to Varia, hoping to perhaps sell the idea once it was finished. The people in Varia that Kendric talked to showed great interest. Fueled by his own interest in exploring, recording and learning new things, Kendric himself eventually joined Varia. His mapping tool is still a work in progress. With a keen eye for detail, Kendric is always ready to go try someplace new. He has an unyielding desire to make himself part of the history books.

Category:
Dungeon Raider* / Cartographer

(I'm really not sure if dungeon raider fits him. He's working in Varia to fund his research but at the same time he's also actively expanding his own horizons and of course field testing whatever he may make...)

Role:
Technician, marksmen, field expert.

Combat Style:
Weak-point exploiter and enemy analyzer. Kendric doesn't do well on his own, -at all-. He only wears lightweight armor so more often than not he needs to rely on somebody else to draw aggro while he fires upon foes from a safer distance. Due to the nature of being restricted by power limits, he has to make every shot count and his weapon does minimal damage if it fails to hit a weak point.

Equipment:

Ether Energy Generator (E.E.G.): What seems to be a small, insignificant, shining blue charm he wears on his belt or stows in his back pack is actually his biggest asset. A small lump of crystal known as ether is no bigger than a baseball, this little trinket generates power to all of Kendric's gadgets. While it does replenish itself using energy from the environment, it does so slowly. Kendric must take caution monitoring his power consumption, for without its energy supply, none of his equipment will function. This device also can also be used to power other necessities such as flashlights, cameras, water purification systems and ect. The ether absorbs magic energy. Kendric is unaware of it, but that causes the EEG to reduce income magic damage by a small degree.

Modified MagiGauss Type MkIII: The MagiGauss is a staple in the latest of magical weaponry. It uses a rechargeable ether cartridge rather than bullet clips to fire off a myriad of different types of rounds. Despite its seemingly small caliber, it can pack quite a wallop! When the cartridge runs out, it absorbs energy from the E.E.G. It is incredibly versatile.

"Eagle Eyes" Goggles: Special goggles he designed to gather, record and display information from dungeons and whatever may lay within them. Equipped with nightvision, X-ray and thermal displays. They are frequently used to pinpoint weaknesses in creatures and structures.

Proto-type "EZ-map": The device that earned him his place in Varia. The EZ-Map is a mapping device with both manual and automatic settings. When set to auto mode, it records and displays information on the surroundings via a holographic interface with no input from the user. Unfortunately the automatic setting is incomplete and buggy with enough mapping errors to make it considered a liability. Manual mode works fine however. This is bundled with his ether energy generator.

Communication Device: Kendric carries with him a two small headsets that allow him to communicate with others over long distances.

Kendric is always trying to make new things so I'll probably add more as he develops more devices :3

Skills:
  • Full Analysis: Kendric uses his "Eagle Eyes" to scan a creature or structure for weaknesses. If the creature is a new species or the structure is of unknown material, this process takes longer. This also helps him spot traps and analyze enemy movements to increase his accuracy or overall ability to evade the target.
  • MagiGauss Rounds: Kendric modded his MagiGauss to fire three types of rounds and add three different elements to them. It should be noted that the weapon isn't excessively strong and relies on hitting a weakness to do any significant damage to larger foes. It should also be noted while the ammo fired is physical in nature despite being created from ether. Due to a limited power/ammo supply, Kendric needs to make every shot count.
  • Standard Shot: Basic shot. Highest rate of fire with low energy expenditure.
  • Force Shot: Short ranged, low damage concussive shots. These have huge stopping power along and come with the ability to stun foes. Medium rate of fire with medium energy expenditure. Has a shot-gun like spread.
  • Armor Piercing Shot: These are Kendric's only means of dealing with armored foes. Armor piercers are -extremely- loud and almost always draw the target's attention to Kendric. These have heavy recoil and expend far more energy to create than standard and force shots. AP shots also require a small amount of time to charge. Ignores resistances of all types to deal physical damage.
    • Elec Rounds: One of the MagiGauss's three types of elemental shots. By adding an electrical property, bullets do additional damage to foes vulnerable to electricity. Added effect of paralysis.
    • Flame Rounds: One of the MagiGauss's three types of elemental shots. By adding a flaming property, bullets do additional damage to foes vulnerable to fire. Added effect of setting targets ablaze.
    • Frost Rounds: One of the MagiGauss's three types of elemental shots. By adding a freezing property, bullets do additional damage to foes vulnerable to ice. Added effect of freezing.
  • Maximize Output: Kendric is able to increase/decrease the E.E.G.'s energy output to any of his devices thusly increasing or decreasing their effectiveness. For example, he can divert power from all his other devices to powering his weapon, but in doing so all other devices linked to the E.E.G. will cease functionality until power is restored.
Note: If it isn't clear, Kendric's main gimmick is that he needs to hit a weak point / elemental weakness. This mainly applies to larger monsters, his weapon can handle the small fries fairly easily.

Ether notes:
Ether is a relatively rare mineral compound that only forms in areas laden with magic. Ether is used as a magical fuel source, but only the most pure ether crystals are useable. There are far more efficient power sources available due to both the rarity and difficulty that comes from extracting energy from the crystals, but recent findings have been uncovering more uses for them. The most recent discovery is the fact that high grade ether crystals can absorb magic as well as convert magical energies to a different form. It was recently discovered that they can be "programmed" by way of rudimentary spells. The purest ether is sky blue colored, but lower grade crystals can take any number of colors and shades. Ether is found world wide and is frequently found in ruins.

That is cool! Maybe you can make an Ether-powered amplifier for my lute?

@Bard

He might, but the need for funding and materials are his primary barriers when it comes to developing whatever he wants. As a result of that, he typically will try to develop things he can market or aid in dungeon exploration.

Honestly, he sounds like the perfect victim for Nylau to antagonize xD
I seriously can't wait to see how she clashes/gets along with the others, haha!

Hehe, clashing was part of the idea yes.

He's a real stickler when it comes to small stuff and will likely be the first one to say something like "I told you so" if you're not prepared. :L

@Relish Accepted :) Awesome char I like the ether concept, if you don't mind and want to, the miscellaneous information section can always store information like that so if you wanted to write up a short information guide to ether, that is welcome.

@Bard Also about your legendary bard string lore, if you wanted to write some information on that I can put it in miscellaneous as well xD

And for the unique races I will also add them to miscellaneous, this way if anyone were to ever want a quick reference to something, you can find it there, of course, the person who wrote the respective things get their respective credit

@Kalista

I'd be more than happy to write up a more detailed bit about ether. It won't be too much though.

Now, shall we all discuss how our characters will know each other and rooming situations?

That will be important, but before we get into that, there is one thing I want to take a survey on:

Do you prefer:

A. Your character signs up at the mission board, once its full those characters start the mission

This means it will be sort of messy, but I would have everyone clearly label before each post the name of the mission, so people can quickly locate the immediate posts relevant to their mission. This means people might be at HQ while others are out doing missions, etc. This also means smaller teams, less extravagant missions are possible along with bigger ones. This also means if everyone in your mission is there, posting can go faster, the downside is, making sure all the time lines match up in the end.

B. The role play has major arcs where everyone is either doing something at HQ or everyone is on a mission

Much more organized, maybe the teams are bigger if not one big team(depending on role play population), each mission will be extravagant. This means the role play will be at a slower speed since we want to keep it fairly turn-based(understandable for quicker posting during conversations that aren't a significant plot changer)

C. Both lmao, some sort of hybrid, such as small missions and then major arc, then more small missions, then major arc, etc

The main reason I ask is that there is already much more than I had thought would join(which is awesome), which means that we actually have the option of A

edit: you can also pm me this if you wish

Why not both?

Smaller team based missions between major arcs. After being reviewed, missions are posted on the board. If the mission is considered urgent enough (major arcs) then we can do something special for those rare occasions.

For the major arcs, we could split the large group in to teams of 3 or 4 to cover more ground if having a single gigantic group is a concern. And for smaller missions can be lead by someone else so you're not super overwhelmed. I certainly have a few nifty ideas for smaller missions...
