Unfabled(full)

The block was riddled with vehicles. The whole city was a war zone that seemed to have set each block with a new battle ground. I could only imagine the chaos that went on here Alex thought as he scanned the area for a way through the barricade of vehicles. He found a small path over between two cars and climbed over, dropping down on the other side. He looked down at his watch. Only five hours before the pick up comes, he had to work fast.
His destination was a few blocks down to a two story apartment building where his contact would be. All i have to do is escort him back to pick up zone and job done he thought, easy enough. He could hear a few moans from down the street and saw that a small group of walkers were roaming around to his right a hundred feet away. He would be away by the time they got around enough vehicles to get to him so he did not have to use his rifle. He continued on and thirty minutes since his mission began he made it to his destination.

Not so much of a building he thought as he raised his rifle and opened the shattered door open and slid inside. The light from the top of his rifle was the beam of hope for him to find his way to the stairs to the second floor. Just as it looked out in the streets outside inside looked as if a turf war happened there a few hours ago. He walks over small objects on the floor to reduce as much noise as possible. Who knew what was waiting in the shadows to take a chunk off his face. The smell of the dead was the first detector that there was a walker near by he thought. He wasn't wrong either because there were two zombies, one at the bottom of the stairs and a second one a few steps above. He aimed his rifle at the nearest ones head to see that it was a woman or what was left of one. the left side of her cheek was completely torn off exposing her jaw. She looked up at him and moaned in excitement as she began her slow attack towards her prey.

He knew the only way to continue on this mission was through these two flesh eaters that were blocking his ascend up the flight of stairs. He knew he couldn't use his knife because that would risk an attack from the second one who has now noticed him as well. So, he thought the rifle is the only way. He took in a deep breath he wanted to conserve as much ammo as possible and fired one shot which roared out of the barrel of his rifle and tearing into the right eye of the undead woman and flying out the other side of her skull. She moaned for the last time before hitting the floor with a loud thump. The second one has gotten close enough that Alex saw it was a large, bald man who was missing most of his belly. With his intestines oozing out, the undead stepped over the dead assailant and reached out his hands forcing himself to get a chunk out of Alex as fast as possible. Alex had no time to lose. He pointed the rifle towards the males head which was now only a few feet away and fired two rounds into its skull which sent him flying back and landing hard on the ground with blood oozing out.

Alex loosen up his grip from the rifle and knew that there would be more because of the disturbance he created. He began his ascend up the flight of stairs and could already hear the banging on the front door behind him. No time to look he thought as he made it up the flight of stairs and in the middle of a long hallway that was painted in a grass green color. The hallway was heading in two directions to the left and right of him. His room was at the end of the hallway to his right. Once outside the door he placed his ear to hear if there were any movement inside before opening it slowly and peaking inside to see that the room had a untidy bed in the middle and a window that had a view outside towards the street where the undead were trying to get in. There was no one inside so Alex walked in and closed the door behind him. He turned around and saw that there was a bathroom in the back corner which door was closed shut. a small light was flooding out the crack of the door and he creep over to investigate. With one hand on his rifle he used the other to turn the door nob and slightly open it before using the tip of his rifle to push it open the rest of the way.

The tile was covered in old blood. The source of it was from a man who was completely naked. His bottom half was in side the tub and the upper half was lying face first. Killed himself? Thought Alex as he looked up at the sink mirror which contained a message stating "I'm sorry." in blood. "Well this is just Great!" He said before walking back out into the main room and sitting down at the end of the bed placing his rifle at his side. He placed his hands on his head and rub the back of his neck before noticing the file that was sitting on the desk in front of him. He reached for it and began to read it. "This is it....this is his report." Perfect, he thought. Maybe this mission wasn't a failure after all.

The sound of broken glass was heard from the first story of the building. He knew that it wouldn't be long before they made their way to him. He had to think fast. He leaped up on his feet and stashed the report away before lifting up his rifle. "Time to go." He said as he reached the door leading him into the long and narrow hallway again. Cant go back the way I came he thought as his mind stated to race for another way out. There has to be an escape route out of here he thought as he moved quickly down the unlit hallway. The sounds of the undead were reaching nearer.

There was no back door or exit, just a window with a view of the neighborhood mall not more than a block. Alex had two options at the moment. The first was to hold his ground and go out the way he came in, which opened to the possibility of being eaten alive or losing a lot of his ammunition. the second was simple, jump out the second story window. Either option was to risky and he did not have enough time to sit and weigh them both out. "..I am going to hate this." He announced before leaping out the second story window.

The fall did not kill him but it did a number on his left leg as he hit the concrete ground. He groaned in pain like some flesh eater and scooped up his rifle from the ground. He searched around to see that there were more packs of walkers heading towards the sound of the disturbance. He would have to mend to his wounds later, now he had to find a place to lay low. The mall. He began his slow path through the empty parking lot. This mission was getting worse step by step.

Jack rased his sword curseing to himself as he saw six other people two with guns. He quickly looked for a hideing spot. 'the isles' he thought, he ran to one, his soft lether boots muffling his steps. Hopping they didn't see him though he know they heard the door singnel so he kepted his sword at the ready and his head down

Jacklyn's head spun around at the sound of the grocery store's bell chiming as someone entered the threshold. She gave her brother a look of warning, slipping the retractable blade from her back pocket as she cautiously made her way to the entrance of the shop, eyes darting from one side to the other. If it was a soldier, then he wouldn't be hiding, instead waving his gun at them and demanding they go with them. One of the dead? Possibly. She rounded a corner, knowing that whatever it was would not simply stand by the front door, waiting to be killed, and would most likely be on the move. Before continuing on to the next isle, each time she would stop just out of sight, peeping around the corner so that she might spot whatever it was without the being seeing herself. If that isle was clear, she would continue on to the next, following a pattern until she would come across whoever, or whatever, had entered the store with them.

After introducing themselves the doorbell of the entrance chimed and Chris whipped his rifle up in the direction of it. He could barely make out shuffling footsteps. It couldn't have been the military as they would have made their presence known, and it seemed to move a bit faster than an infected. Jacklyn stalked past him wit

Jack used the tip of his sword as a mirror at the bottom corner of the isle. He saw a hazy figure slowly approaching stoping now and then, the person was to close, about 2 isles away, he pulled his sword back. He hade to think of some thing 'A bluff' he didn't have time for any thing else "stop!"Jack yelled "I have a grenade I stol for a dead solder. The pin is pulled but I still hold the clip and if you continue ANY further I will release it." He waited for a respons and kept his sword ready

Alex was not new to the concept of death or war. His first tour was when he was nineteen. Now at the age of twenty-six he was a well hardened "veteran." Still with everything he has gone through it could not compare to the realization of the dead getting back up. He had nightmares before of the acts of war he had committed over the years. The dead rising up to bring vengeance and revenge to him. Now seeing it happen for the first time would take a toll on his mind. It would break, if he had time to think about the irony of it all. The clear solution was to survive, he would be allowed to lose his mind after.

The groans were getting louder and more violent as he continued stumbling towards the mall. His foot was dragging him and he knew it. It was one of those possibilities but he had to choose it than the alternative. He made it to a near by car not far from the entrance of the mall. He placed all his weight on the side of the car to get it off his left foot. He looked back to see the group of zombies being entertained with the scene Alex left behind. At least they are stupid he thought as he turned his attention back to his destination. After a few moments of surveying the area around the entrance he began his move forward.

The decision was weak and stupid but it was the only one left. There was fair ground between him and the entrance of the mall where anyone could have set up an ambush. He was instructed by his superiors that statistically there were survivors still in the area. That meant small families or factions and not enough resources. In essence it was no different to other combat situations he had trained for years. He had seen a lot of stupid decisions that caused close friends die in a blink of the eye. This one though was the only option he had out in front of him. The problem was the wait, either he would be shot down by some sniper or make it to the glass entrance. either way it was a waiting game and his mind was already anticipating. Maybe I am losing it he thought as he dragged his bruised leg over to his destination.

With a quick peak inside he found that a few of the lights were still working. That meant that the power was still on some how in the mall. It could mean there may be a home for the living inside. He knew he could take out a few but if there were a party he would be picked off easily. This mission wasn't for any conflict. This mission was just to quietly move in and move out. The information he now possessed was to valuable to linger. He took another look at his watch to see he still had time. The pick up was not far from his position but his chances of arriving there were slim unless he could mend to his injuries. The door was locked of course and he had to time to try and find another entrance. He took the butt of his rifle and made a small hole through the glass door for him to step through.

The air was damp and sickening. The smell of rotting flesh was present. He could see a few lifeless bodies near a giant fountain. A fountain that may have been beautiful in its design but now was a host of the dead. Blood filled its pool. With his rifle at hand, Alex moved forward to get a better look at his surroundings. He could not hear anything and from the looks of it he was in the clear. He placed his rifle down and pulled out his travel med-kit. It wouldn't be long til he was finishing cleaning up his wound and bandaging it up. Now just to rest a little Alex thought as he placed his head back on the side of the interior wall. It was faint at first but he could hear it later. The sounds of more groans. His rest would have to wait because he may have stumbled upon something worse than the outside environment.

Phoenix snapped her head in the direction of the bell signaling another arrival at the entrance as shs lifted her gun at the ready. She made no sign to hunt for this sudden person...or thing. Instead, choosing to stay with the child and not bring her into harms way unless there were no options but to do so. It was safer to stay put and allow someone else to find out what it was.

Slowly Jacklyn made the first move to leave the others and went, surprising Phoenix with her quick decision to go without asking for another to go with for back up. The dark her woman couldn't decide if that was a good move or not but knowing if need the twin would have help.

"Nikka, I need yoi to be quiet okay." Phoenix said calmly to her sister. The four year girl's response was a nod of her head.

Situation? Two people at entrances to the mall. One is a man threatening to release a grenade in an isle and the other may or may not still be alive. Rose was impulsive. This is a game and her life isn't really in danger. She has a mission and she's going to live to see it through. Just like a video game. Without really thinking about her own life, Rose set down her skateboard and raced toward Jacklyn and the man who probably really doesn't have a grenade.
Just like those kids she used to play with on the Xbox, he's lying to keep enemies away. Probably.
In her state of preteen denial, she thought that if she died, she'd get another life. So she flashed past Jacklyn and Phoenix and hopped up on her board so she'd land with a loud slam and squeak in front of the stranger man in the isle. No grenade. She knew it.
"I know that trick. Don't you know Honesty's the best policy?Relax, No zombies around. We're clear." Rose winked and snapped her head to the left. Around the corner was the fountain and from that direction came loud groans from outside. "Crap. Nevermind."

It seemed there was no peace for the living and Alex knew this well. His training had pushed him harder than most. His superiors gave him a small chance of survival but he laughed at his odds. He enjoyed the rush from the mission but this one was worth the risk. It was worth the risk of thousands if this nightmare could end. His choice of a career took him many places but not once was it in his countries backyard. When the crisis happened he was on leave for two weeks. He saw it happen to the small town he grew up in as his neighbors and friends were eating one another. Ever since he survived that he was picked up by the remaining military force and was brought in for briefing.

This mission was given to others, Alex thought. None survived. He didn't want to be another statistic. He was going to get out of here one way or the other. He reached into his front pouch and pulled out a pack of smokes. Lit one and inhaled deeply as his whole body became comfortable. The nicotine helped his pain in his foot as well. It would heal soon but he had to stay off it for a little to speed it up. He took another puff before the sound of groans were echoing through the mall. He picked up his rifle after tossing away his smoke. "Guess cigarette break is over." He said before using the butt of his rifle to help hoist himself off the ground.

The entrance he had made was easy enough for those walkers to get through so he began looking around for things to barricade himself inside. He would find another escape later. There was a large wooden bench not far from the entrance. Alex dragged the bench over to the entrance he recently made and placed it over just in time as a fleshy hand stretched out to grab him. Alex fell back at the sudden surprise but realized that the one would not be able to make it through alone. Through the glass window, Alex could see a few other undead stumble towards his direction. He was on a timer now. He knew that barricade or even the glass door wouldn't hold for long.

He did what he could with the barricading of the front entrance and spun around at the sound of speech inside the mall. With rifle in hand he realized they didn't know of his whereabouts or they would have been there by now. No, he still had the upper hand. He would have to find away through the mall, passed the zombies and the living. Stealth would have to be his friend again as he surveyed his surroundings before pushing forward towards the voices he heard. He turned off his light that was mounted on his rifle, helping him not give away his position. It was also wrong because it would make it harder for him to see as well. Alex assumed that he wouldn't have to worry that much about the dead that were walking outside. It was inside with the living that was his priority.

As he turned down the corner he heard the entrance window crack some. Always rushed along, he thought as he pushed on. The voices were becoming louder and easier for him to locate but he would not interact. No, he wasn't there to make friends or enemies. He needed to find a way out and fast as he noticed the time on his watch. He stayed in the shadows as he saw a young woman ahead talking to a man near an aisle. Alex must have stumbled along a food store of sorts. It seemed as though the two didn't know one another and the only other way around was through the store itself. Alex breathed deeply and pressed on, having his back against the wall. He was in range distance to place well shots on the citizens in front of him. He aimed down his rifle at the woman who had just finished speaking.

"I am looking for a way out of this place. I mean no harm but i will use force if needed." He continued to stay in the shadows of the unlit hallway hoping they couldn't see him at all. He repeated again this time adding an important fact he left out. "We do not have enough time here, get the hell out of my way because shortly this place will be over ran with those creatures!"

Jacklyn froze as a voice announced its having a grenade, pulled and at the ready should she come any closer. So she stopped. Why risk it if there was even so much as the slightest of chances that the male voice could be telling the truth, although, honestly, it did sound rather ridiculous. A man saw a soldier, took a grenade, opened it but stopped the pressurized gas from leaking, just so that he could run into the grocery store and threaten to throw it in their faces if they didn't go away. Ridiculous, but still...

The sudden whirring of wheels spinning against the ground behind her, made Jacklyn look up in time to see Roxse zip two isles ahead of her, coming to a quick halt beside where she assumed the male was in hiding, calling him out on his lie. Her heart rate picked up in fear for the younger girl, for who was to say that this stranger didn't carry a gun or would simply shoot her? Even if his lies suggested he was unarmed or at the very least, unwilling to fight.

A new voice was then heard, coming from the same isle but on the opposite side, announcing that he did not want to use force, but he would if he had to. Force meant death, meaning either guns or numbers, and hearing as how he was the only voice, Jacklyn assumed guns. She looked back in the direction of the others, even though they could no longer see her or the danger from around the bend of the shelves and racks that were laden with supplies. However, that also meant that this other male was blind to her own presence, unless he could see through metal, which she highly doubted, more so than the doubt of the first man having a grenade.

With this mindset of still being unseen thanks to the goods and design of the store, she slowly backed away from the isle, slipped through the next one so that she would come out at the area where the newcomers backs were facing towards. With a dry swallow that left a lump in her throat, she slipped off her shoes for the guaranteed silence of her socks, walking on the balls of her feet as she snuck up on the back of the man who, she realised, truly did have a gun. She pointed her knife at him, for all the good her puny blade would do against a bullet, and announced herself from only a foot away. If he turned around to shoot her, at least that would give the two a chance to run, and alert the others to danger. If he didn't, she would stab him or at least attempt to hold him as some kind of hostage. "Noise draws them towards you, so I would shut up if I were you and simply leave. Making a scene by aiming your gun at a kid," she looked up at Roxse, "no offence, will not get you out of here and finding an exit any faster," the red haired twin said darkly in a manner much more confident than she felt, adrenaline pumping through her in honest fear of this man.

At the new voice threatening harm, Phoenix felt a shiver down her back. In complete fear for the younger ones of the small group in the grocery department. Yet, in all honesty, the majority of that fear had to do with her sister being in possible danger by this man. Even if the man decided not to cause forceful inflict, and potentially a fight-someone would be bound to get injuried- than there were the undead who apparenly would be brusting in any minute.

With that thoughy in mind, Phoenix cursed under her breath. There would be no time for this ridiculous of threats or anything else for that matter. It was time to move on with or without supplies. Not an appealing idea to leave with little food, water, and whatnots but she rather not risk staying in an unsafe place for any lentgh of time.

"C'mon Nikki. We gotta move." She whispered as she bent down to lift the small child into her arms, carefully maneuvering the gun to do so. Nikita's eyes welled with tears. Her bottom lip trembled, though she stayed quiet.

The situation had changed drastically. When Alex was aware of the female that stood behind him it was to late. How the hell did she sneak up on me? He thought as he heard out what she had to say. She didn't attack him so he knew she was either new to the concept of war or was stupid. I would have taken the advantage myself and move forward and take myself out if I were in her position but he wasn't in her position. For a moment Alex weighed out his options.

He could try his luck and fight off the situation. That meant taking out his unseen stalker behind him and then regaining control of the people in front. He didn't even know if this female was even armed. He assumed she had a weapon or was completely insane. It didn't matter because he would have to gain his attention back to the people in front. He didn't know if they had any fire power as well. He also had to add in his injury as well into the equation. He had no idea who this female was beside him and the smart thing was not to swim in the water when your not sure if there were sharks lurking underneath.

He would have to go with his second option which seemed smart. He knew he could fight out of this predicament but was sure a diplomatic way could get him the same results. Which meant he would be able to save some ammo for the "real" threat. He raised the hand that was on the trigger of his rifle as a white flag before slowly standing up. Letting the rifle fall to his side he turned around to face his attacker. He smirked and thought, should have gone with the first plan. His mind should have sparked when she spoke of keeping quiet. Anyone with any military insight would have slain Alex in a heart beat to make sure there wasn't a sound at all. This also added that maybe this "group" wasn't really a group at all. If they were strangers he would have a much more difficult time because that meant they were out for one owns interest. I should have shot her.

"Listen sweetheart, I don't know who you are..and I really do not care. Now if you could please just let me know if there is a back door through this way and I can slip out of this nightmare of a mall." He said smoothly.

(just to save time my character looks some what like my profile pic)

Jack heard something slam on the floor and and what sounded like a skateboard, he was confused but perpared to run through any one who threatened his life. the noise got closer and then a kid no older than 14 apeared on the skateboard, Jack immediately loosened up "A kid?" He said, she turned back to the othersafter talking with him and said "Relax, No zombies around. We're clear." Jack stood ashamed that he veary well could have just theatened a family trying to survive too. Jack was about to say something when he herd another to his left and he wiped to his left sword at the ready. The voice said "I am looking for a way out of this place. I mean no harm but i will use force if needed." then repeat it but adding "We do not have enough time here, get the hell out of my way because shortly this place will be over ran with those creatures!" After a second he heared nothingthen. He saw a fliker of movment as a hand whent up as an unseen person apeared to have the uper hand, wether that was good or bad he was soon to find out

Rose's head snapped to her left at the increasing volume of groans around the corner. In the meager shadows, Rose could narrow her eyes and spot the next guy threatening to hurt them and then Jacklyn coming up behind them. Her big blue eyes widened like dinner plates until their exchange began. Where the heck is her twin when you need him?!
""Noise draws them towards you, so I would shut up if I were you and simply leave. Making a scene by aiming your gun at a kid," she looked up at Rose then and she pouted, annoyed. "No offence, will not get you out of here and finding an exit any faster,"
Rose wanted to intervene, like any good gamer, but the man stood in slight surrender before she could react. "Listen sweetheart, I don't know who you are..and I really do not care. Now if you could please just let me know if there is a back door through this way and I can slip out of this nightmare of a mall."
Rude, she thought. But again, she couldn't call him out on it, because the man in front of her, the one bluffing about the grenade, had noticed Jacklyn and that other guy with the gun. When's she gonna get a gun?! Not fair!
The groans and quick steps echoed behind Jacklyn so Rose acted fast and spoke up loud. "Dude, you came in through the back door. And the front is a big open parking lot. That spells more zombies. But hey I KNOW A SHORTCUT TO THE SEWER TUNNELS IN THE STAIRWELL! EVERYONE FOLLOW ME IF YOU WANT TO LIVE!!" Rose cupped her hands around her mouth, hoping to reach everyone's ears even if the dead were too stupid to understand where she was leading the living.
With that, Rose sped off, kicking her right foot to the ground to get her moving. She turned sharply in front of Jacklyn and Mr. Rude and Stoic, smirking at them before propelling herself further down the hallway on the right to the back of the mall. She only knew of the tunnels because that was the best place to practice her skateboarding when her strict pair of parents restricted her from going to the skating rink. Rose grabbed a baseball bat from a basket where they were being sold on her way to the entrance to the sewers, looking back for a second to check for survivors who decided to follow her at a run. Her short, ebony locks would have impaired her vision, but the hat held securely to her head and kept them out of the way.

Jacklyn's mouth hung slightly agape at this man's term of sarcastic endearment, a look of disbelief arching one of her brows in silent askance. Did he seriously just call her 'sweetheart'? Television, books, movies and all other forms of entertainment helped her to classify this kind of guy and, being within that class, she knew that any attempts to make him not call her the term would only lead to a similarity irksome name. At his request, she allowed an expression that was the perfect double of his -the cool calmness of his eyes that held the slightest traces of contempt, the small smirk of confidence and the gentle, upward tilt of his chin that showed his higher ranking of authority- to swallow her previous look of disbelief. Years of practice that came with copying Leon, her parents, friends, enemies, teachers, neighbours, bullies and even the odd crook or cop, left her quite able bodied at getting under the skin of those around her, then wearing it herself. Even her voice took on the air of being the better person, well contained sarcasm hidden beneath every word she spoke. "Look here, stud. As much as I would love to show you the door so that I might kick your arse out of here, I'm afraid I can't do that. There are real soldiers out there who are rounding people up in order to take them to some god-forsaken campground and, frankly, your escape wouldn't be worth the rest of our capture," she answered just as smoothly, the same little smirk playing over her lips.

as Jack listened to the kid talk about the sewer tunnels and then speed away on the skateborad he came to the conclusion that she knew more about the mallo then he did and he still needed a bow so he yelled after kid knowing it was to late to be quite by the sounds of groans not to far away and hoped the kid would help him even after what he did "Hey were can i find a bow!" He remembered losing his bow and quiver full of arrows when he whent to investigate a house and found it empty. He was tiered from a long days travile so he set his stuff in the livingroom and took his bow and arrows with him to the kitchin to look for canned goods and set his bow and arrows down got some food and accidently left the bow and arrows. when he sat down to eat and heard some undead in the bacement and decided to leave and accidently left the items now needed

Alex took a deep breath. It was needed. His foot was still aching with pain and the medication was beginning to wear off. He thought he would be able to have some more time to rest before putting stress on that foot again. He would have to rough it out just a little more before he could rest again.

This may work in his advantage. None of these people seem to know one another and there seemed to be no leader Alex thought. These people were amateurs.
He answered logically. "If you know a way out, lead the way."

Alex turned his attention back to the woman with a blade. He didn't forget her, even though he should have. "We don't have to like one another but I wasn't always the likeable one." He spoke and rose up from his perched position. Walking off from the earlier situation with his would be attacker. "If your still up to it, we can fight it out later."

His mission called to get the information back by any means necessary. He just didn't think he would have help from civilians. He walked by the child who claim to know a way out. "Let's go. But don't think I'm here to watch you." He looked down at his watch, time was winding down.

In the back of his mind he would ditch the group at the earliest possibility. Besides, he thought. If there were any creatures below he would do well in numbers. He shrugged, better them than me.
