Unable to start PM convos, prompts me to select a "destination forum"

Whenever I try to start a PM conversation, I receive a popup window prompting me to "select a destination forum." It doesn't actually let me select anything or type anything into this box. This happens both when I try to start the conversation from my own inbox and from the profile of the person I'm trying to PM. I'm using Chrome and didn't do anything to my settings except turn midnight mode off because it was hurting my eyes.

Hey there! You'll need to create a category to sort your PMs into before sending any messages. This resource[/i] explains how that works and gives some more info on filtering options.
