It is said that brevity is the soul of wit. There is, without a doubt, a time and place for long paragraphs filled with wondrous descriptions. Other times, however, less is more. What can you create from the prompt using only two sentences?

Rust

He had thought his heart cold and rusted with disuse, unable to care any longer.

But as he picked up the water drenched kitten from under the soggy cardboard box, he felt a flicker within, a heat of pain and compassion, and anger for the sake of the little one.
 
Brown and old like the being working on it, the ship had been rendered useless in its current state. The engine made the worst sound as the cogs within grinded against each other and the once silver ship had been reduced to a mere rustbucket.
 
She pushed the rusted old garage door up and stepped inside, seeing the stacks of boxed and odds and ends of furniture that went unsold at the estate sale. She moved along the path the movers had left, running her hands lovingly over the boxes as tears slipped down her cheeks, "Goodbye Mom."
 
The betrayal had removed the rust from his emotional cogs, leaving them free to turn. As he fell forward, the blade of his long time friend still plunged deep within his chest, he could not stop the emotions that boiled over like the blood from his fatal wound.

He walks slowly, trudging among the barren wastes and his once majestic castles of rust, his hands on the verge of tearing apart themselves in their delirious shaking, a crown of ashen gold laid atop his head, a burden on his soul in the form of a phrase.

" What have I become?"

Red, like liquid rust stained the hardwood floor, seeping deep into the cracks and under the floorboards, splattered across the curtains and white washed walls.

Some days, it was just hard to balance the life between artist... and mother of a toddler.
 
Rusted were the hinges of his joints, crusted over with wear and time like his home. A tile of the roof fell in and the oldest living AI held his hand to the sky, it was time to go back.

It had happened to her best friends, it had happened to her mother and her father, but she never expected it to happen to him, especially when she had gotten the new rust-free metal that all the new robots had gotten. Turns out, it was a lie and just like the rest of the robots of the world, she rusted the next time it rained.
 
His eyes were rusted over with age, and his ears no longer worked like they should, but still he remained kind and soft-spoken. The kids in his neighborhood called him the Candyman, after all, so he supposed he had a good reputation.
 
When he found it, it had been covered in rust and completely unrecognizable as the amazing thing that it was, but with much patience, coca-cola, and a wire brush, he managed to make the thing shine like a diamond.

The kitchen knife sat on his counter, gleaming, as he picked it up to admire it in the light, glad to have given it a home.
