Color is a powerful tool in writing. Proper description and hints at the coloring of settings and objects- and yes, even people- can set the scene with emotions that the writer wishes to convey. The proper combinations of colors can warn of impending disaster, show a character slipping into depression, or finish off a happy ending with a nice little bow.

The most common example of color association is black and white- black is often associated with night, darkness...evil, if you will. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, there is white. White is usually shown as being light, hope, and on the side of good.

So what is the purpose of this exercise series?

I want you to take a color that I give you...and twist it. I want you to take the common feeling of a color, weave it into your writing, and then shatter the preconception of what we thought it was. I want you to make an evil color good, and a good color evil. I want love to turn to hatred, and hatred to love.

...I'm sure you get the point.

RULES:
The most important rule to remember is that there are no rules. The only thing you have to do is twist the association!

Post length- anything!

Setting, genre, style- anything!

Wanna write a poem? Sure. One sentence? Sure. A novel will be fine if that's what you wanna do.

Really, the only thing I ask is that you (a: twist the association and (b: tell me if you don't want me to give your writing a review.

Leo sat in the small single engine boat with his rod lazily held in his hand looking out over the calm of the crystal blue waters of the lake that had been his family's vacation home for as long as he could remember. He breathed in a deep breath and drank in the pace and calm of the moment. Oh, how he needed this respite from his chaotic life and the upheaval of the last year. His eyes closed and his head leaned back as his face lifted to the sun allowing it's warmth to sink into his soul. Soon though, the serenity of the still blue waters called his attention back and he lowered his head and smiled at the geese that landed gracefully not far from his boat.

It was at that moment that his peaceful tranquility was abruptly invaded by something beneath the water. large jaws erupted from the water and in one loud snap over half the flock of geese disappeared. He sat up and gripped his pole tightly looking into the water for what could possibly have done such a thing, but saw nothing. He moved to the back of the boat to start up the small engine and get back to shore when a sudden yank on his line caught him off guard and pulled him tot he side violently. The cold of the water struck him as he sank beneath it's beautiful surface. An instant later terror struck his heart as he saw something in the water not far from him. He released the pole and grabbed for the side of the boat fighting to pull himself from the water, but he was too slow and the pain of sharp teeth on his legs was the last thing he felt and the calm of the blue above him the last thing he saw before all went black forever.
