So...my sister is getting married on Friday and I'm going to be flying to Florida on Thursday, attending the wedding Friday and flying back Saturday. (I do realize I'm crazy yes!)

In light of this flurry of travel in my upcoming week....

Do you have a preferred method of travel?

I prefer to fly if it's a long distance so I have more time to enjoy where I am going.

Do you have any travel pet peeves?

I really hate the scanners at the airport, though I do realize why they are necessary.
If I am not going too far and happen to be traveling by car, I can get peeved at people who aren't prepared for the toll booth. I mean really people?? have the money ready.
Also, maybe you all don't have this problem but I always seem to forget something. Either I leave something at home that I need, or leave something where I went...very time.

I prefer trains for domestic travel.

Planes for longer distances.

I hate airplane food and I hate getting the window/middle seat when I'm sitting next to a stranger. I prefer the aisle seat. Easier access to the toilet. That said, airplane toilets are so loud, I don't go to the toilet at all if I can help it.

I don't have many complaints regarding trains. Japan's public transportation system is pretty efficient. The only problem is that most people here absolutely despise human contact and go to great lengths to avoid it. So they move the seats around to avoid having to sit across someone.

Choosing where to sit can be a headache sometimes. It's a whole mental process. I can't count the number of times someone's flipped over the seats right across me, as if I--the person who got there first--don't even get to choose based on my preferences. It's a major pet peeve.

I had no idea that Japanese people were anti social. I've never lived anywhere that commuter trains were available. When I lived in Maryland we took the metro to DC when we wanted to do something to avoid the whole issue of finding parking, but that was a rare treat. I don't think I'd do well there...I tend to talk to everyone I make eye contact with even if it's just a casual hello.

And oh I hear you on the airplane bathroom. I never use it, even if I'm dying I wait to land and rush out to the nearest available. Those things are so loud and so tiny, and also I like with window seat, so I don't like fighting my way past other people to get up.

Someday I'd like to take an Amtrac across the US...but that's a bucket list kind of dream. who knows though.

I'm a city girl, so trains are my go-to when I need to get around locally. I don't drive my car really if I can help it.
  • Perks: no wait-time, no traffic, reliable, efficient, CHEAP
  • Cons: the occasional crazy person screaming obscenities, beggars asking for money, stabbings, etc.
For long-distance trips I usually take a plane, but I've grown to not like doing so. I've considered taking a sleeper train cross-country and exploring the U.S. (like @PoetLore mentioned), but alas, I'm both lazy and bougie. Another time, another life. So for a plane:
  • Perks: It gets me where I need to go quickly. That's really about it.
  • Cons: My ears have been killing me on my last few flights. In addition, flights are EXPENSIVE, omg. Why tho

I just want to reach my destination already. I don't like the travel itself, so whatever will take me the fastest. Though I definitely have a preference over trains and airplanes. Busses and cars can go to hell.

I just despise driving, gives me a major headache and I hate the smell inside cars and busses alike. When there is a driver it really depends on their driving style whether I will get sick or not. So far I have only met one driver that doesn’t make me want to hurl at every turn.

I fly a lot. Less now that I have kids, but especially before I probably spent a good few months out of the year (in total) out of town.

My one and only travel pet peeve is when the person in the seat in front of me on a plane leans their seat ALL the way back.

Like hey, asshole, I may be petite but I like having space too >:[

I absolutely HATE traveling. I hate being in a car, a bus, a train (probably my preferred method, though) and ESPECIALLY PLANES >:[ . A huge chunk of my hatred for traveling has to do with my height. I'm tall enough that I'm uncomfortable no matter what. I do wish I could teleport...

roadtrips !!!! being in the UK beings i don't get to do the fun roadtrip stuff bc we don't have many interesting roadside stuff or fun scenery. So whenever i'm in the US, i find some time to roadtrip!! It's so fun !! Tent camping in the desert or mountains, gas station snacks, randomly stopping at weird museums you find, music singalongs, bonding with ur best friends. Man if I could just roadtrip i would!!

my biggest pet peeve is having LUGGAGE,, if i could go everywhere with a single backpack i would. i hate the space it takes up and loosing stuff,, wack

I love traveling, by any means. Sadly, I have done NONE since my early twenties. O: Can't afford it because of all these adulting.

I did find out the hard way that I have a very specific kind of claustrophobia while on an airplane. O_O I had a middle seat between two very LARGE people and then the person in front of me leaned their seat all the way back, so I was squished into this tiny little place and my flight was gonna be a couple hours long. I was freaking out within minutes and had to ask the attended if there was any other seats empty. Thankfully there was a window seat available. O:

It is expensive now, but I still try to get away at least once a year now. I never did until these last three years and I'm angry with myself now. I'm not sure what I was saving for before, but DUH...

And...oh man do I hear you about the squished thing. I"m not a tiny person myself but For some reason I always seem to get put next to overly large men who are all legs and wide ah a house. Not always overweight just large. I did get upgraded for free once because the guy next to me was falling asleep and slobbering on me. I showed the stewardess and she grabbed me up and escorted me to the nice seat at the front. I sucks though if the flight is totally full and there's nowhere to go...
