Genres
High fantasy is my personal favorite, followed closely by modern fantasy and post-apocalyptic, but I can happily play in any genre if the plot is good enough.
Fog had settled in over Chestein's streets, filling the city with a quiet, damp stillness. The tops of buildings had become hazy in the distance, about to be consumed and lost forever into vacant nothingness.

Even though he knew that the sun would rise soon, burning away the haziness to reveal the city in all its splendor, Cedric couldn't help but lower his head, tugging the edges of his cowl up a little further around his neck.

There were eyes on him.

Eyes in the shadows. Disembodied, bloodshot eyes, swiveling with every step he took. And he knew. He knew if he tried to look at them, they'd blink and vanish, but the moment he turned his head, they'd be back.

They were always, always watching him.

He had learned that the only possibility was to just ignore them. Pretend they didn't exist. Because the more he acknowledged their existence, the more they would circle around him, taunt him, mock him. Try to ruin his life.

The fog seemed like it was going to suffocate him. He wanted the sun to rise. Wanted to banish it from the city, so that at least it wouldn't threaten to swallow him up alongside everything else in this city. But he was not the sun. He was nothing but a sad, dark-haired shadow that lurked in this city, trying to pass unnoticed under the endless eyes that traced his passage.

And then he felt it. Almost like a faint breeze on a hot summer day, something seemed to trace its way through the air, brushing across his face. For a moment, all the tension that filled him seemed to vanish. The eyes lowered their gaze, seeming placated.

For one moment, there was peace.

Cedric turned slowly in the direction of that silent sweet air, feeling as though something had turned his body rigid.

What met his gaze was a woman.

She was dressed like a nurse, simple grey sleeves, a white apron that covered her front. Her hair was topped by a simple white hat. She walked down the street slowly but gracefully. Cedric couldn't take his eyes off her.

You want her?

No. He didn't just want her. He needed her.

You think you deserve her?

Deserve? Deserve had nothing to do with it. He simply needed her. Needed that faint sensation that swept from her body, that softened the painful, numbing, burning, crushing feeling that always consumed his mind. Needed her, so that the eyes would stop watching him, so that the fingers would stop creeping across his skin.

Hahahahaha.

So that the voice would fall silent, if but for a few minutes.

Slinking backwards into the darkness, Cedric's eyes never wavered from the nurse's silhouette. In the shadow of the early morning fog, everything was kept secret, everything was swallowed up.

He would take her too. The moment she dared to wander away from the light of the alley, and stepped into the shadows.
