The setting is modern day Tokyo; where during the day the city seems more or less peaceful, but during the night it's teeming with violence and crime, practically ruled by the Yakuza. To make matters worse: there are some among the ranks of the immense gang with special abilities who choose to abuse them for personal gain. Standard police forces are either incapable of capturing the gangsters, too afraid of them to make the attempt, or, in rare cases, some officials are bribed or personally threatened to back off. Many people aware of the danger are too fearful to go out after dark to even stop at a convenience store or vending machine, and those working at night fear for their lives and well-being. Despite all of this, there is still a select few people who feel incapable of idly watching the chaos. This is a story of one such person, a young man with special abilities of his own and a mastery of various styles of kung-fu, and the people he comes to meet and the trials he will face in the near future as he struggles to keep his true identity as a vigilante crime fighter secret.

This is a small, anime-inspired group RP with a direct focus on a few major characters, my own being a direct center point. As described above, it is set in modern Tokyo, but in a somewhat alternate reality where the only major difference is that a select few people are born with special abilities and powers that no one else has. That being said, it's not exactly impossible for some people to be born with similar abilities to another (there are only so many different kinds), but typically, it should not be very common for a person to be born with such a gift. Within the setting of the RP there are many criminals, normal and super powered alike, committing crimes and the like against innocent people; happening more frequently at night but still occasionally during the day. The local police do their best, but due to the influence of the Yakuza as well as the ability of many of the gangsters themselves they have been having a hard time. This has led a very select few people of able body to take up becoming vigilante heroes during their spare time, the first one to appear having been my own character.

This is where approved characters post following the story of An Ling/Hien and his interactions with the various people (civilian, hero, and criminal alike) in the city of Tokyo. Posting is done in a semi-episodic manner, divided by individual scenes similar to plays or anime with multiple mini-sodes per episode (think anime like Nichijou and the like) and posts are typically to be made in an established order. The primary posting order follows this key:
  1. Hien/An Ling/Li Fu (me) + any NPCs I'm in control of for the scene
  2. Any main PCs other member are in control of and are involved in the scene
  3. Any NPCs others are in control of for the scene
Certain scenes may have PCs and NPCs alternating places or players who are controlling both using them both in the same post, but before all else I will post opener posts for each new scene.

The posting order for the current active scene is as follows:
  1. Hien + gang thug NPCs
  2. Aya Mitsuba

Setting

It was late one Friday night in the city of Tokyo. The city was bustling and illuminated, and there was a crisp breeze blowing in the spring air. Everywhere one looked there was something happening; from couples walking into love hotels together to salary workers boarding trains home and even gamblers making it big at the slot machines. All the activity was not obvious, either, for even in the shadows there were many things happening; from shady croupiers and game hosts rigging a game against gamblers to that one guy waiting in a dark alley to mug the richest looking sucker he can find. Truly this city is teeming with activity both honest and mischievous. Despite all this, there were still some who stood out among the crowd.

~Hien~

Hien was crouched down on the roof of a hotel somewhat between the residential district and the more bustling areas of the city, because if there was one thing he had learned from years of fighting off crime it was that it was almost guaranteed that he'd find more cases of bold crime in areas where there were less witnesses to be had. He had been moving around that night, but as it had only gotten dark roughly an hour previously there wasn't much crime happening yet, so all he could do was keep moving around and keep an eye and ear trained for anything unusual.

It was then that he noticed a group of rowdy men that looked as if they were gangsters. He hadn't seen them do anything yet, but he decided to follow them just in case, so he stood up and began leaping from roof to roof in the direction they were headed. As he followed them, he watched their body language closely and could tell that they weren't drunk, but very confident in themselves which led him to assume that they were most definitely armed. Just as he was hoping that they wouldn't happen upon anyone, they seemed to notice something that caught their attention. When Hien looked ahead of them he saw a girl walking down the street in the same direction as them by herself. Hien's hand reflexively came to rest on his face and he gave a sigh as he hoped to goodness that they wouldn't overstep their bounds and force his hand, or possibly terrify the girl. Why do people in this city have to be like this?

Aya Mitsuba

It was hardly a time for someone like Aya to be out. A 16 year old in the city at night was only asking for trouble, especially for a young lady. But for her, who would normally be in bed about now, there was a reason to be about. Namely, her powers. Faster than others. Stronger than others. And the ability to slice anything she could get her hands on. She was different. That much was obvious. The question then, was what should she do with them? When she thought about it, it wasn't like they did much for her in everyday life. They kept her physical health good perhaps, but in terms of schooling and socializing they were next to useless. It wasn't like she could just slash something apart or transform in front of other people.

A sigh escaped her. She'd heard being alone could help her figure things out, and think better. But between class duties and responsibilities at home, it was impossible during the day. Therefore, after lights out, she'd sneaked out to take a walk around the city. So far it had proved remarkably unsuccessful. The only things she'd gained were a bit of exercise and a tired mind. With another long sigh, she continued her pointless venture through the city. It really was getting dark now. And besides, she was getting a weird feeling about her surroundings...

~Hien~

The group of roughly 5 men hastened their pace, and Hien dropped down into an alleyway from the rooftops. After they were just far enough that they wouldn't notice him but he would still be able to pick up on their voices he walked quietly out of the alley and followed them at a distance.

As the gangsters began to approach the girl, the biggest one of them called out to the girl. "Hey there, Missy! What's a pretty young girl like you doing wandering around town by yerself?" It was at this point that they had totally caught up with her, and they somewhat herded around her with cocky and lustful looks on their faces and they walked with her. "Why don't you spend some time with us? We'll definitely show you a good time, I can personally guarantee that." This guy was definitely the most menacing and confident of the group, and he wrapped his arm around the girl's shoulders when he spoke to her.

Hien couldn't help but feel somewhat disgusted as he clicked his tongue quietly enough that they didn't notice him. Am I really hearing this? I'd better step in soon before things get ugly. With that he sped up just enough that he could start closing the gap between them at a pace that would go unnoticed.

"Hm?" Aya looked around at the gang of five beginning to circle her. It was obvious from their expressions they were up to no good. These were the kind of people she never saw. Not because she'd never seen anyone like them before, but because she always looked past them, not paying them any mind. Here, however, she had no choice but to look them in the face. And what ugly faces they were. Aya couldn't help but visibly wince as the man wrapped his arm around her shoulders. What the hell was he doing? Who did he think he was?

"Get your dirty hands off me," she huffed, shoving the man with strength one might not have expected from her lithe frame. "Sorry, but I run a tight schedule. I don't have time for good-for-nothing punks like you." It came to mind that her words were rather confrontational, but that was just how she was. That only left the question of should she fight, or not? Obviously if they came onto her even more forcibly she'd have to, but she wasn't sure if she could avoid carving them up in doing so.

Dammit...coming out here really was a mistake.

Aya swore to herself, not liking where this was going. Her cold expression seemed to dip a bit, tainted with confusion and hesitation.

~Hien~

As he watched, Hien seemed to find some relief as the girl shrugged the leader off. Good, it seems she didn't come looking for this. Still though, such actions won't exactly end peacefully... And just as he thought this, the men acted just as he knew they would: "Oi oi oi, don't be so rash. I think it's in your best interest to not go against us little missy; you may regret it..." When the leader had spoken up, the rest of the group began cackling and closing in, and the leader himself began reaching towards her again with a ferocious expression of hunger adorning his face.

I won't let you! Hien charged in and grabbed the man by the wrist just before he grabbed the girl. "I believe the girl was clear that she is not interested in your company," he said with a serious glare at the man, who despite having been taken by surprise was glaring directly back. "Boy, do ya know who you're messin' with? I got connections in the Yakuza, so you'd betta LAY OFF!" The man swung his right fist over his left arm that was held in place by Hien as an attempt to sucker punch him, but Hien only expected such an action; he easily caught the man's fist and used his own momentum to flip him off his feet and onto his back, knocking the wind out of him. He then placed his foot on top of the man's chest to hold him down; "All the more reason. Yakuza making attempts to traffic an underage girl? Even I didn't think your kind were that low."

The other four gangsters all charged in at him with knives and brass knuckles in hand, but this only made Hien chuckle slightly. He swiftly rolled over the leader and his leg as it swung down to kick the knife out of the hand of the gangster in front of him before pushing off and bringing his other leg out to kick him in the face. As soon as he landed one of them with the brass knuckles swung at him, but he managed to block the strike and redirect him into one of the other men before kicking the two of them down to the ground. The last one, in a desperate attempt, ran straight at him about to thrust his knife forward, but Hien merely ducked down with his leg extended forward to catch the man off his balance and shifted his position towards that same leg as he pushed in a circular motion to flip the man onto the ground and stand back up on the other side of him, dusting his hands off.

Aya Mitsuba

Out of panic, Aya was about to lash out with her own power, but before she could do any more than raise her arm a man she didn't recognize launched out of the blue and spoke up for her. Her eyes widened when the man that tried to hit on her revealed his connections. Good thing she hadn't been the one to hit him. Who knew how that would pan out.

Very badly, she thought.

The man who'd suddenly arrived on the scene took the gangsters out swiftly and gracefully. Martial arts? She'd had practice, but something like that was far from her level.

"Who are you?" Aya called out to Hien, a serious questioning look in her eyes.

~Hien~

After dusting off his hands, Hien heard a voice nearby ask; "Who are you?" Looking over, he saw that the girl whom he had saved was staring intently at him. Feeling a slight amount of pressure from her gaze, he cleared his throat and responded delicately yet firmly; "Please be at ease; I'm simply a normal citizen who can't stand the sight of others being wronged." He softened his stance some and rested one hand on his hip with the other resting at his side to show that he held no ill intention, then continued; "Anyways, it's fairly late out for someone your age to be wandering around. Would you allow me to escort you at least partway to your home so you don't wind up in trouble again?" He needed to get back to his patrol, yes, but the fact of the matter was that the girl was in a somewhat sketchy part of town and it would bug him if she didn't have some protection at least until they had reached a safer area.
