Through the Tests of Time [C L O S E D]

Rachael

Waking up to another routine day that undoubtedly would only incur monotonous and taxing work until she was able to get back in bed to restart the day all over again, Rachael could feel her youth being drained away. It was summer and yet she wasn't embarking on some exuberant and life-changing journey that she could gush about once she was back in school like most of her peers. No, she was just working to make a living so she could have some form of income. However, she was growing weary and restless, as the restaurant was short staffed so this week she only had one day off.

Thankfully, that day was tomorrow on a Saturday, and she'd find out about next week when she went in and got the new schedule. She could only hope the upcoming cycle would find her to be a bit more free to at least go out and drive around mindlessly or just indulge in herself a bit. Well, she supposed she could daydream about a more exciting life some other time. If she didn't leave now, she'd be late for work, and she wanted to get it over and done with as soon as possible so she could meet up with Anastasia later.

The two had been planning to do some exploring of their own. Rumor has it that there was some old run down building on the outskirts of town filled with old books and possibly some primordial tome that had been cursed. She was excited to go dig around in there, just seven more hours and she and Anna would be sticking their noses into places they didn't belong.
----------------
The minute the words 'Delivered' could be seen under her sent message telling Anna to be ready, Rachael had started her car and was on her way. Music blasting and a mischievous glint in her eye, one might say she even looked dangerous in that moment. Work had been long and uneventful, but the minute she put her foot on the gas pedal, she knew that tonight was going to be big. Even the streetlights seemed to be working in her favor- every single one immediately turning green before she even started to slow down. Was it her lucky day? Hadn't felt like it, but there was something in the air that sent electricity through her veins.

"Maybe I should slow down before I get pulled over." She chuckled nervously, glancing at the climbing dial of the speedometer. Alright, so maybe there was a bit too much energy coursing through her to be considered healthy, but Rachael felt as though she could excuse her reckless behavior. First night off in about seven days and she had hopes of discovering some ancient evil, of course she'd be a touch more giddy than usual.

Rolling to a stop in front of her destination, Rachael had to resist the urge to honk as they did in those cheesy teen flicks whenever they would pick up their friends on the way to a party. She just hoped Anna didn't back out and would try to enjoy herself tonight. The both of them needed it badly.

Nuriko

It had started as a fairly odd day for Nuriko. Typically he'd lounge around, tending to himself and walking around the palace to see what sort trouble he could stir up, but today he had felt a bit on edge. It seemed as if no one else was in the same situation though, unless they were just really good at hiding it. Then again he had only seen Hotohori and Tamahome as of yet, so it couldn't really be considered an indicative sample, but he just couldn't shake his uneasiness. It wasn't exactly a bad feeling, per say, but it was intense enough that he could feel his heart squeeze in his chest, which was in no way normal for him.

For someone as insightful as him, he figured he would be able to easily uncover what exactly was eating at him, but nothing ever came to mind. Even after going out to browse the markets and buying himself a few new trinkets, his mood hadn't been stabilized. Despite the enigmatic circumstance that shrouded his anxiousness, Nuriko couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity- as if he's been through this before. Now that he thought about it, he did remember being somewhat antsy the day he had met Miaka, but even then it hadn't been as overwhelming as it was now.

He wanted to reach out to someone, but when he relented to the Emperor after being asked about his behavior, he had written it off as if he was just being paranoid. Sure, maybe he had been initially, but this had been going on for much longer than any of his usual episodes. There had to be a reason. Maybe it was an omen of some sort. Nuriko wasn't really sure, but it seemed that as the hours ticked by, the pounding of his heart would resound in his ears at an increasing volume; it was as if it was all leading up to some big event. Well, this couldn't be good... Right?
