Those Which Lurk

The Tragedy

If the devil existed, these would be his demons, they have existed longer than humans have, they have haunted humans for centuries. However, there a no records of their existence, maybe cause most who have encountered them forget about them when they grow up and those who remembered, well they didn't usually last long.

Over the years, children went to their parents, saying about what creepy things are lurking in their closet, or under their bed. However, no one usually gets hurt cause of them, maybe some therapy later in life. However, it's the people who continue seeing them are the ones in danger.

They only go after those which can see them, as if these people were marked as their prey. Going to others is impossible, those who can't see can never imagine what these things are. Their shape can change from animistic to almost human. Only one things remains common; their black, ink like skin, and white glowing eyes.

The origin of these creatures is unknown, a name hasn't even been given to them. Only one thing can be said for sure about them, they were made to kill, they hunt down without tiring. They will do whatever it takes to get their target. However, when the sun rises they disappear from sight, seeming terrified by it. They return to whatever place they come from. To the place for those which lurk.

The sun set upon the horizon, and as the dusk came to an end and darkness spread across the land, Seers all around could hear howling in the air. They went on their hunt, perpetually hunting these Seers.

Steven Richardson
Steven had actually survived much longer than most did with these things, most would have been dead 5 times over. It was probably because he had been at this for so long that he was quite adept at surviving, but all bullets did was stun them for a moment, it didn't put them down. He hadn't found a real solution yet.

The howling came closer to him and he'd see a group of these creatures ran towards him, white eyes the only light in their ink black bodies, he'd hear claws scratch at the side of his RV, barking and snarling at it. They already had his scent, they knew he was there and they had grown quite tired of being without tearing into him for so many years.

One slammed it's body again the RV shaking it as it's body distorted a bit into an unrecognizable shape before turning back to normal.

Layla McIntyre

Layla heard hissing sounds outside her home, black wavy shapes outside her home and she could hear them moving on the roof. It was a surprising thing, being OK with bringing a child into this kind of life. However, being on 7 years of avoiding these things would mean she'd probably have some kind of experience with not getting killed.

It had seemed holy objects deterred them from going around her but they didn't seem to really have a physical affect on them. Hallowed ground at most made them afraid, they would break apart crosses, and holy water basically fell through them. IT was probably the reason why they avoided Layla during her time in foster care. However, a couple crosses would not stop their hunt now. Sure they would be willing to give up a couple children, her daughter did not seem to have this curse and the creatures left her alone.

Gabriella Cortez
Outside of a restaurant, a group of ink colored... they almost looked like walking corpses stood outside, letting out growls and snarls. They wouldn't go into heavily populated areas, too much of a scene when they attacked. They watched the girl who was walking through the restaurant and taking orders. This was the routine for Gabriella, they would watch her from the window, looking quite pissed off as their prey was so close but so far.

No one else in the restaurant seemed to notice them, this was also normal. Once of the corpses would bang on the window a bit, not breaking it though. No one around even noticed this, it was probably quite stressful for the waitress, but it worked.

Victor Kai
Victor had come a longer way than most seers, sure Steven had survived for a long time but was dropped out of college cause of the late nights. Victor had gone through college and made his way up to even teaching. Few people could make it through school with this type of life and even less could have a job without having it under special situations.

Victor, having spent a late night marking papers would have his attention drawn to a loud noise and if he was to look out the window he'd see a black bull outside, trotting around before it ran towards the wall. The wall shook a bit but held firm, it shook it's head and huffed, it's white eyes seeming locked on him as it seemed to be thinking, figuring out a better way to get to it's prey than charging into a wall.

"Another episode, mommy?" Faith implored, her giant brown eyes glittering with hope and eagerness to watch another episode of Pokemon. "No, baby. It's already way past your bedtime. Go to sleep now, 'kay?" The blond woman chuckled, not waiting for protests as she guided Faith to her bedroom, tucked her in and kissed her forehead. She turned the dial for the light down until the light fixture in the middle of the ceiling only emitted a dim glow. Faith couldn't sleep in complete darkness yet, always worried about the scary shapes that the shadows in her room cast on the walls. When her daughter had first run crying to her about those shadows, Layla's heart had leaped into her throat. She'd been so frightened that the beasts that plagued her, were preying on her daughter, but when she entered the room and found no beast, she almost cried with relief. Her sweet, sweet Faith was just a regular little girl with regular fears.

If only...If only Layla could have been the same instead of being cursed to suffer from this ability to see things no one else could. "Talk about the worst superpower ever." She laughed bitterly to herself, as she strode down the carpeted hallway, briefly peeking into her mother's room where the woman was curled on her bed in an alcoholic stupor. The door creaked when Layla leaned into the room, but her mother didn't even raise her head to acknowledge her, too preoccupied with her depression. The blonde woman felt a feeling of guilt seize her heart, knowing that she was the cause of her mother's grave sadness. If it weren't for Layla, her mom would still have her job, a husband and probably a life that didn't revolve around babysitting her seven-year-old grandchild while her daughter was at work. If Layla had had the resources when she was in high school...She probably wouldn't have had Faith but abortions weren't exactly legal in her state and she'd be risking a lot more if she'd gotten a back alley procedure.

"Damn it, Layla. Now's not the time to think about that crap." She chastised herself, as she went to stand in the middle of her living room. She could hear the creatures trampling on top of the house and she needed to figure out a way to scare them off. She'd bought just about any rosary she could get her hands on and suffered under the judgemental stare of the local church's priest just to get him to bless each and every necklace, then her house. That alone had kept the creatures at bay--or at least waiting across the street--but it seemed like the holy aura had worn off. What the hell was she supposed to do? If she ran outside, they would definitely get her, but if she stayed inside, the same shit would happen! But...If they got her while she was inside, Faith would wake up and witness her mother being torn to pieces and there was a big chance that they'd go after her next.

Layla took a deep breath and ran her hands through her hair before jumping into action. She couldn't stay in the house. Grabbing a more than a couple rosaries, Layla put them all on and hurried to the kitchen where she kept a vase of holy water. Or at least, the water that the priest had told her he blessed. Pouring it in a spray bottle, she misted herself but kept quite a bit just in case. The blond took another deep breath, grabbed her purse, flung open the door and booked it to her car. She could hear the creatures shrieking and snarling after her. She didn't dare look back as she turned the key into the lock and threw herself in the car. She peeled out of the dirt driveway and hoped a police officer wasn't around to see how recklessly she drove out of the trailer park. She had to get to somewhere populated. The creatures didn't dare come near her when she was in a crowd. They always lurked on the fringes of the area, watching and waiting.

While she drove, Layla spotted a frightening but hopeful sight. A bunch of creatures surrounding an RV scratching at it and shaking it as if trying to get to whatever was inside. Layla stared at the RV in awe as she speeded past it. What if...What if there was someone in there? Someone like her who could see the monsters? The prospect of not being alone in this shit storm, caused Layla to do something stupid. Very stupid.

She took a sharp U-turn and made a beeline straight for the RV.

"Hey toots, sweetheart!" Gabriella rolled her eyes, god she was sick of the assholes in here every night. Always the same, some middle age guy who treated her like an idiot while also ogling her all night. She inhaled deeply, before turning to face the customer sitting at the corner table. Yes, another creepy guy who'd order something simple but he'd explain it like he was talking to a three-year-old, all this while keeping his eyes firmly on her breasts.

She put on her best may I help you smile, walking over to stand by his chair "Yes sir? What can I get you?" She wrote down his order, smiling and nodding in response to his words but she had stopped listening as soon as she'd written it down. She'd gotten quite good at tuning people out, dealing with quite a few boisterous customers especially drunk ones had helped her develop this essential skill.

She only wished she could drown out the monsters so easily, unfortunately, she could hear them perfectly well. Every snarl and growl sent a shiver up her spine, it was very hard to maintain her composure when they were making that kind of noise. She had to constantly remind herself where she was to stop herself from jumping every time one of the damned things pounded on the glass. Despite the fact she had to deal with this every night, she still wasn't used to it. She knew the glass would hold, they didn't like to attack while she was with so many people, even still a fearful jumpy part of her expected it to shatter and for them to flood in.

Thankfully she was safe here, for the next few hours at least. The owner was closing up early tonight, unfortunately, so she'd have to find a way to keep out of their reach till sunrise some other way. Trying to focus on her job, she headed over to a young red-headed guy sitting in one of the booths. "Good evening Sir, can I get you anything?" Her smile faltered for a moment as a particularly loud noise came from outside, she wanted to look but she didn't want to draw attention to herself.[/fieldbox]
