Having taken a seat at his desk, Matthew waited patiently for Ashera's return. Meanwhile, he occupied himself with drinking more alcohol than humanly possible, luckily he wasn't human. Upon Ashera's return, Matthew snickered at the offer as he stood. "You think I want you to clean my mess up?" His question was sarcastic, but his tone was dark and cold almost sadistic. Matthew shook his head in disbelief. How could she just be so okay with him killing someone? Ash put a whole new meaning to friends till the end. Closing the distance between the two, Matthew looked down at her as soon as he stood less than a foot away. "This is my mess, Ash, and mine alone." He informed her sternly. Glancing at her stance, Matthew figured he was angering her in some way, but her eyes told the reason why- she wanted to protect him. Smirking as his hand found its way up to her chin he lifted it slightly. "You don't have to worry about me, I'm a big boy." He chuckled out, his laugh was stiff and dry. Matthew knew he could handle disposing of her body, but he still needed to figure out what happened to make him snap then he had an idea. Walking past Ashera, Matthew entered the front entrance and grabbed his jacket from the coat rack, looking over his shoulder he spoke in a whisper tone. "Are you coming?" Without waiting for an answer he opened the front door and left down the road towards the edge of town. The rain outside had cleared, but storms clouds were still on the horizon.
Halfway to the boarding house, Matthew's family home, Matthew glanced back to she Ashera trailing not that far behind. Good. The boarding house was one of the few locations sacred to his family, it was protected by magic and was "holy" land to a vampire. He had never taken Ashera to the boarding house only his parents house in town. As he glanced back he knew she hadn't the slightest clue as to where he was taking her. The thing she for sure didn't know was how many rules he was breaking just thinking about bringing her there. "Keep up." He warned her, his tone was a mixture of agitation and protection. "If you hear something, keep walking." He ordered her. The hidden pathway was nearing the duo, to most it was simply the side of the road, but Matthew could actually see a pathway there that lead to the boarding house. The Santos' property stretched for about three miles of the woods in a complete circle. Slowing his pace just enough, Matthew allowed Ashera to walk about five steps behind him. He needed her to not lose him in the forest. The land played tricks on outsiders perception, even the best of species wouldn't be able to walk for more than a minute without being completely lost in the woods and eventually eaten. Feeling the slight humidity, Matthew knew it was fog. A low cloud bank, fake as can be, and not holding the capability of real weather or water perfect to trap a siren. As the two walked along the path, Matthew heard the low sounds of approaching footsteps and inhaled. Devon. "Leave her be, cousin, she is mine." His voice was a low malicious growl as he spoke under his breath.
Devon, a tall dark haired male with bright blue eyes, sighed. "No fun, Matthew. Sirens are delicious." His voice was deep and full of complete loath for Matthew. Devon was Matthew's older cousin, a bit of a wild card that stayed in the cage of the Santos property for everyone's sake. He was handsome, but even he knew that he could not compare to his baby cousin in anyone's eyes, both physically and in power strength. Making himself visible to Ashera, he smiled as her walked far too close to her side. "So you're the siren my idiot cousin has taken quite a liking to?" He questioned her, his eyes glowing a deep red and his fangs still fairly out. "You know you shouldn't trust him, his how you say...a liar." With the last word faintly coming out of his mouth, Devon was thrown against a tree causing the large, thick, tree to snap in half sending splinters flying. "Ah, Matt, I'm just being honest here." The corners of Devon's mouth were turned up on end as he fixed his shirt.
Matthew glared, his eyes a golden color now. "Not another word, Devon." He muttered. There was a part of him that wanted to rip off Devon's head at this moment. There were things he hadn't told Ashera, besides being a vampire.
Devon obeyed.
Inside the Santos family there were levels of being a vampire. Level A, the ordinary vampire, someone like his mother or cousin Kayla. Level E, someone a little psychotic and hard to deal with, in other words Devon. And then there was Matthew, Level S. There were a total of three Level S vampires within his large family, they had the power to manipulate and control other vampires, their strength was unmatched within their family. Level S vampires made up the council, along with two from the other levels. No one really knew where Matthew's powers came from because before he was born there were only two supreme vampires at a time.
Looking to Ashera he motioned her to continue down the pathway, this time he would be by her side. Devon walked behind them, almost like a zombie, but really he was frightened of what Matthew would do if he made an advance for Ashera.
