The gates of hell flicker open every now and again, letting lose a demon or two before shutting. One of these stayed open, letting out nearly half a horde of demons. They ravaged the plains, forest, killing and corrupting anything they came across.
By sheer luck, the people banded together, and pushed the demons back to where they belong. Not without leaving their mark on the world, granting access to knew technology. Being harnessed, this technology was only use able with a high amount of heat, only being made possible by fire or steam.
Not only, the lingering chaos made a new breed of person, named Hellspawn. They have random aspects of demons. Some people have different colored skin such as red or blue or more. Others of these "Hellspawn" have horns, wings, or other unique physical attributes. Perhaps the most special aspect, some have unique abilities to use dark powers, from controlling elements, to speaking to animals, and anything else you can think of, these Hellspawn can do it. However, they also deadly weak towards silver and holy symbols. A simple touch can burn their skin, and ingesting water blessed by a priest can make them drown in it.
One hundred years later, it seems like the portals are staying open longer and longer. Many think a portal will stay open again, this time letting the full wraith of the horde out onto the world. We must band together, to stop this world from ending.
