It has been decades since the fall of Voldemort and his followers. A lot of progress has been made since then. The Ministry underwent massive reform under the administration of former Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt. Pureblood-centric laws have been abolished, and the ministry, allegedly cleansed of its corruption and prejudice, has never been better. Progress, in a smaller scale, has also been made in strides: the wizarding world has shed its old-fashioned ways and begun adopting modern technology and pop culture.

Some say that these changes are for the better, but there are those who would argue otherwise. For not all changes have been good; and sometimes what is proclaimed to be progress is, in fact, the opposite.

In 2019, the Progressive Society for Worldwide Peace and Cooperation (PSWPC) forced the Ministry’s hand to reveal itself and the existence of the wizarding world to muggle society. Many believed this was for the best, that it was high time for both worlds to co-exist. And yet, relations between the two remain hostile.

It is the dawn of a new decade, and the polarizing political climate and sensationalist media have had a dire effect on the people. Misinformation and panic have been spreading. Although Voldemort was defeated years ago, his influence still remains. More and more, as society grows ever polarized, people are starting to regress to old habits. There are those who claim that Voldemort was an innocent man. And at least half of the wizarding population has begun rallying behind his modern incarnation, Julius Ainsworth, whilst loudly proclaiming their discontent for the current Minister.

Many believe that there would be a war soon. The only question is when.
CHAPTER I. THE WARY AND WEARY WIZARDS

Date: August 30th, 2020
Time: 11am
Event: Shopping for School Supplies
Weather: Sunny

It is a day before the start of term. Muggle-wizard relations are still tense in the wake of the recent terrorist attack. In order to ensure the safety of wizards and their homes, muggles are no longer permitted within any wizarding town or establishment. Meanwhile, the students of Hogwarts are to do their shopping in groups. The Leaky Cauldron--a pub that once connected London and Diagon Alley--has recently been closed down, forcing the students to take a different route to get to the shopping district.

It is a good thing that the professors of Hogwarts are watching over the students and taking lead. In this tumultuous time, these understandably anxious teenagers are easily frightened. With the professors around, things should go relatively smooth-sailing.

The Story So Far
CHAPTER 1: THE WARY AND WEARY WIZARDS
Muggle-wizard relations are still tense in the wake of the recent terrorist attack. In order to ensure the safety of wizards and their homes, muggles are no longer permitted within any wizarding town or establishment. Meanwhile, the students of Hogwarts are to do their shopping in groups. The Leaky Cauldron--a pub that once connected London and Diagon Alley--has recently been closed down, forcing the students to take a different route to get to the shopping district.

All goes fine and well, until a group of students accidentally sets off some Filibuster's Fireworks. Understandably, this causes a commotion.

Oliver Fang

Location: On the way to Madam Malkin's
Interactions: Sanguine Faust (x)
Diagon Alley was crawling with students, their parents, and the Hogwarts professors keeping watch. Oliver couldn't count the number of times he'd been shoved aside by busy shoppers, or almost lost Sang in the ever-flowing sea of people. It was sunny too, which meant they had to find shade soon lest the pricking heat of the sun got too uncomfortable.

"Eugh, I hate being this close to sweaty, smelly people." Oliver whined, scrunching up his nose, as yet another man shoved past them. He gritted his teeth, wishing he could just turn into a bat and fly somewhere a lot less populated. It felt like his senses were being assaulted from all different directions. It was a shame, really. He usually liked shopping at Diagon Alley, when it wasn't this packed with people.

"Anyway, I think I need a new robe. Can we go to Madam Malkin's--" Oliver turned, realizing the crowd was slowly dragging him further away from his friend. Quickly he grabbed Sang's wrist.

"I think they're trying to break us apart Sang," he said, so somberly it was almost comical. He shook her wrist for effect, then stared into the distance. The distance, of course, being the road towards Madam Malkin's.

Arnold Byrne

Location: Diagon Alley
Interactions: Elliot Graves (x)
Arnold felt like he were Moses himself, crossing the Red Sea. Except he wasn't Moses, and the Red Sea wasn't a sea but a crowd of people in an assortment of colored clothes. They were all making way for him, and Arnold felt really bad about it. For the hundredth time, he wished he'd been born a normal wizard. Maybe then he wouldn't constantly feel like he were intruding other people's personal space.

"S-sorry, pardon, sorry," he muttered repeatedly as he trudged awkwardly on. He wiped some sweat from his forehead. Trying to make sure he didn't accidentally step on somebody's foot was a lot harder than it looked.

"You...uh...you okay there, Elliot?" he asked behind him. "Do you still want ice cream? I--I think I can see the vendor from here."

Elliot Graves

Location: --Diagon Ally
Interactions: -- Arnold Byrne @Adrian
Elliot followed in his companions shadow, a set of steampunk looking goggles pressed back his dark, slightly singed hair; a ordinary pencil remained tucked against his ear. "Most definitely!" He said, tone cheery as he twisted at the nobs and bolts of a small ball of scraps. It was the only way to occupy his mind when he wasn't working on something big.

"I shall pay for your one too!"
He announced decidedly, reluctantly tucking his scraps into his pockets as they reached the vendor. The smoothest trip he'd ever had through such a crowded place. Then again, he wasn't about to question people's strange behaviour towards his friend.

He began checking through his many, many, jacket pockets, for his pouch of money, the best his parents had been able to manage since they couldn't join him, it was really more then enough.

"Hmm...could have sworn...oh...nope, must have been the other...oh! I've been looking for that!"
He announced to himself, momentarily forgetting about his money and the ice cream he desired.

Location: Ice Cream Parlor

Apology after apology came out of his mouth as he and his companion ventured to the Ice Cream parlor. He hovered next to the shop for a bit, trying to make out where the queue ended, when the vendor looked up in his direction.

"Oh, uh, I--" Arnold clammed up. He wanted to say that he wasn't trying to be threatening, that he was only trying to find the end of the line. And yet his size and the fact that he was hovering so close to the vendor were probably telling a completely different story. "I just--"

"Get to the end of the line, freak!" Said a witch in the queue.

Arnold felt his face turn red in humiliation. "Sorr--"

"Oh, don't listen to her, dear," the vendor chuckled nervously, likely interpreting the redness of Arnold's face as an indicator of anger rather than shame. "So what can I get you? We have a lot of flavors--"

"Uhh--" Arnold looked towards Elliot, "I-I'll have vanilla... a-and..."

Izabelle Nightgale aka Izzy/Izz
Location: Knockturn Alley - Inspired by Harry's mishap.
Interactions; As of Current; N.A.
Izabelle sighed, long and deep. She dreaded the day ahead.
She stared at her reflection in the long mirror. She let her long curly black hair framed her pale face. She wore her usual buttoned up white blouse and ankle-length black skirt. They acted as her armour, her blanket of safety.
Knock. Knock—
The sound traveled, filling her square shaped room. The knob turned and the door creaked open. A head popped in. The flawless face of Annalie Nightgale appeared, a smile upon her lips.
"Hey, Izz. Mum says that we have to go soon."
Izz pouted as she turned towards her older sister, a frown upon her forehead.
"Do I really have to go?" A soft whine escaped her lips and she slightly stomped her feet.
/Kingdom/ would air in 32 minutes and she could not miss that. She had not missed a single episode. Not since it first started. It was part of her routine; In 30 minutes time, She should already be there, in front of the television, watching her favourite shows for 2 hours. But no. Everything was disrupted. All because of-
Izz started to tap her feet furiously upon the ground whilst shoving her thumb into her mouth, suckling upon it.
Noticing the changes in her sister, Annalise took three huge strides towards Izz and held her free hand, softly drawing circles, and calming her. Izz stared blankly at her sister before she let go of the thumb in her mouth and leaned against her sister, head resting upon her chest. She listened to the soothing beat of her sister's heart—
DoopDoop. Doop. DoopDoop. She lulled, and her tensed muscles relaxed.
"Kchick," the sound startled her out of her reverie. She looked up, and saw her father leaning against the door frame, phone in hand as he captured the moment.
"Papa!" They exclaimed in unison. Realising that, they both broke into giggles.
Luke Nightgale grinned. He loved seeing his children laughing. It warmed him. But as much as he'd wish to let them continue—
He coughed into his fist, catching their attention.
"Come. We have to go now. We must not be late," he let out a visible shudder.
"Your mum is angry when she's scary." A whisper—
It was a secret between him and his children. He wouldn't dare to say that in front of her. No. He valued his life too much to ever make the queen of his heart angry. His eyes were wide and shining, a message they both got.
Anne stood up first and held her hands towards the pouting Izabelle. An encouraging smile appeared on her lips. She urged Izzy to take her hand. She understood how Izzy felt. She had been as such since young after all. The only comfort she could give was her hand.
And Izz did take it. She knew it would not be so bad with her family around. They would be there for her if anything were to happen.
Another sigh ensued and she stood with the help of her sister. She dragged her feet down the stairs towards the fireplace where her mother was waiting.
"What took you guys so long?!" Everyone shuddered. The lowered yet fierce tone could freeze even the hottest of lava. Izz flinched. Amelia softened her features and she reached a hand, cupping Izz's cheeks. She could guess what took them so long. "It'll be alright sweet cheeks. We'll finish as soon as we can, alright?"
"Yes, Mama." Izz let out a soft smile. Satisfied, Amelia fished a small pouch from her purse. She opened it and handed it towards Anne first.
"Remember, we'll meet at Madam Malkin's. Anne will go first, then Izzy. I'll go last." Amelia paused for a moment before turning towards Luka, "You make sure this house isn't a disaster when I get home."
"Yes, of course darling." Luka nodded profusely at his wife's warning. "Take care, you three. And have fun."
Taking that as a cue, Anne took a handful of the powder and threw it into the fireplace before she stepped on. "Diagon Alley."
She vanished soon after she said the words and Izz begrudgingly took a handful of powder. She repeated the actions of her sister. With a huge mistake. Annoyed and angry, instead of articulating her words, she mumbled and slurred them, forgetting the dangers of floo powder. Sure enough, her destination gate was a dark and dingy shop. She hurried out of the fireplace and door, and stumbled into a slimey looking street. She turned a few times. She could not recognise any of the buildings or shops. Her eyes widened and her breath shortened. She needed to get out of the place. Her actions were frantic as she walked through the dim alleys, attracting unwanted attention. Her arms crossed in front of her and she curled into herself as she shuffled about. Tears gathered in her eyes, blurring her vision. Her breathing was becoming erratic as her chest tightened. She had to find her sister and mother. Where was she? She needed to get out. Wrong turns after wrong turns. She began to sob under her breath. She tried to ignore the stares. And those that attempted to approach her. She had to get out. And soon.

Joan Lambert

Location: Near Gambol & Japes
Interactions: Jasper Grey (x)
School was back in session again, and Joan was in very, very good spirits. Anywhere was better than her parents' place in Canada, where she often spent her summers. Now that she was miles away from home, she felt like she could actually be herself again. No longer did she have to put up with her mother nagging her into wearing "prettier clothes", or her step-father constantly eyeing her as if she were the spawn of the devil. Azkaban was heaven in comparison to the Lambert household.

Gambol and Japes was one of the few stores she liked and frequently visited in Diagon Alley. And it was there that she was supposed to meet her good old friend, Jasper. But there were too many people roaming about outside. It was hard to spot him in this crowd, and she didn't think he was inside the shop yet.

Joan hastily typed a message into her phone with one hand as she chewed at her nails on the other.

where r u

Soon enough, she spotted him. Even though she hadn't seen him at all during the holidays, it hardly felt like any time passed at all.

"There you are, loser," A typical "friendly" greeting from the likes of Joan Lambert. The girl raised her fist, as though to punch her friend, when in reality she was only waiting for him to return the fist bump. That seemingly perpetual frown on her face could be oh-so-deceiving to anyone who didn't know her well.

."Fuck sake, Cyrus," Jasper growled to himself as his sister vanished into the busy streets without even a hint of where she was going. Likely to shift so she could avoid this madness, he was honestly, envious.

His phone buzzed in his pocket as he gave one last glance around for his twin. He pulled it from his pocket still growling to himself as Joan's name popped up or more accurately 'Dumbass'. "Miss me already?" He fired back before tucking the phone back into his pocket and hurrying towards Gambol and Japes.

"Here I am, you can relax now," He crooned before accepting her fist bump with his own. He stepped around her, into the shop. "Want to find something for the pompous ass?" He asked as he scanned the shelves. He was of course, refering to Alistair. He was still feeling a little salty from last years deducted points.

It was only after meeting Jasper that Joan thought to check her phone again. She instantly regretted it. Her face scrunched up as though he had farted in her face.

"Why do you have to be so fucking disgusting?" Joan gave him a good thwack on the shoulder before getting distracted by the assortment of items in the store. She played with one of the non-explodable balloons on display, squeezing it just to test its strength. She leaned against the side of the shelves. "We can get him a douche to clean his shithole with. Since he's got a stick up his ass." She chortled.

Sanguine Faust
Location: On the way to Madam Malkins -- Interactions: Oliver [@Adrian]

Today was undeniably a hassle.

Not only was she being shoved around by those in a hurry, Sanguine was also subjected to the torment of the sun that loomed brightly above them. It felt like needles driving their way into her pale flesh with each second that past, the pain assaulting her senses alongside the various, conflicting scents of the world around them. There was the smell of food settled on nearby stalls, that while was undeniably pleasant, conflicted harshly with that of the crowds. It was both tempting from the sweet whispers of blood and disgusting – as many of these people were drenched in sweat much to her dismay. Sanguine’s nose scrunched up slightly, her gaze shifting around with her seemingly normal state of over-caution.

The sound of Oliver’s voice broke the mutters of the crowd, grasping Sanguine’s heavily divided attention as she turned to him. “Sur-“. There was a pause as the crowd grew more aggressive, pushing around them – an act that led to Sanguine’s quick embarrassment when Oliver grabbed her wrist. Unlike Oliver who continued seemingly normally with the contact, Sanguine quickly grew frazzled at the contact, her cheeks darkening quickly enough as she stared, seemingly stunned at their hands.

“O-Ollie!” She hissed, not loud enough to draw attention, but enough she knew he would hear her as she stepped closer to him, bypassing the crowd. “What are you doing?!”. Irritatingly, she could feel her heart racing, sending her into a further panic in fears Ollie would notice. Wanting to get away from the situation, and her resulting embarrassment, Sang grumbled a quick curse as she twisted her grip around to grab Ollie’s hand, turning to the direction of Madam Malkins.

“Lets just get through this crowd…” She mumbled, focusing on their destination as she headed off towards the shop, trying to shift attention away from her prior state.

Cyrus Grey

Location: The Broom Shop
Interactions: None
Cyrus didn’t even notice when she floated away from her brother. There was just the welling need to get away from all these mad people busily looking for their supplies. Whipping her braid over her shoulder the freshly cut fridge kissing her brow as she wove in and out.

Dressed somewhat light for once. Something on the note of more feminine--away from her normal flannel and jeans. She wore a blouse that looked lovely against her golden olive skin, a ribbon tied at the collar to add a sense of sensibility. It was an attire she had to wear for a formal meeting--nothing overly formal. For once, Cyrus felt the need to make a good impression. So, she scrubbed up rather nicely.

Fuck she missed her normal clothes though.

Browsing through the crowds of people and noticing the new stock of brooms. She stepped out of the madness looking at the window of The Broom Shop. Admiring the newest models and fine new pieces to make adjustments on the already owned brooms. Quotes to fix a few bits and pieces and other things that made the witch’s best friend more suitable for her every need.

Lightly reaching out to touch the glass at the new model of the Nimbus. Her mousy brown eyes almost had a childlike admiration for the piece of equipment. Not even aware of the other people that she’d caught the attention of in her personally usual attire. The flowing sleeves of her v-neck blouse, neatly braided hair, dress pants and neat flats. Yet, it felt like she was a whole other person from what the crowd had seen of her in years prior.

Finally, blinking out of her daze. She noticed that she hadn’t heard Jasper’s pestering or whining for a while. It made her frown and look around. “Fuck! I lost him!” She growled at her b-line for the shop and the ideal plot of getting away from all the nervous little first years or returning students palming for the best buys. Picking at her nail polish Cy held a gaze of utter boredom. Not quite sure where to go next.

Robin Fox
Location: Gambol and Japes---Interactions: Joan [@Adrian], Jasper [@Ghostly Boo]

It was habit by now, it seemed, for Robin to wander through the streets while staring dazedly at her phone screen. A faint hum here and there was the only noise she made as she weaved through the hurried crowds, occasionally flicking her gaze from the brightened screen of Wizagram to check her surroundings before she continued her scrolling. It was the day before school started and her social media homepage was flooded with posts and updated of those she followed as they tried to enjoy the final day of freedom before the stress of academics returned to suck the joy out of life. A quiet chuckle fell from her glossy lips, blue eyes glancing up as she stopped in her strides, noticing she was at her destination.

Gambol and Japes, the local joke shop. Frequented often for their practical joke merchandise, Robin herself enjoyed buying non-exploding luminous balloons for her room. Not only did they add a good effect to her selfies when she took them, it made her part of the room look awesome. In her opinion at least.

Reluctantly, Robin swiped away the Wizagram app with a small pout. She would have gladly kept it open to take a selfie within the store but it was slightly crowded and she didn’t really want to catch anyone unintentionally in a photo. Some people were especially prickly about stuff like that after all. Tapping the screen lock, listening to the soft chime it made, Robin shoved the yellow cased device into her jacket pocket with a huff, her attention diverting to the many shelves in search of her beloved luminous balloons.

Robin found them pretty quickly. The only issue was that there was a couple of other students standing in front of the shelves – ones she just barely recognised. Both were fellow seventh years and she, if she was recalling correctly, the Gryffindors Joan and Jasper. That Unfortunetely, was the limit to her knowledge on either. However, it didn’t deter the smile that lit up her features or the excitement in her gaze as she headed to the two.

“Hey! Excuse me –“ She asked politely, grinning quite happily as she spoke. “Do you think you could pass me a couple packs of those balloons?”.

Jasper released a burst of laughter while still subtly rubbing at his arm. "Put it on his pillow with a nice little ribbon. 'For his royal douchness, a little relief," He joked, tone full of amusement. He dropped his gaze to the struggling balloon in Joan's grasp and took a subtle step back.

He was about to speak up when another voice interrupted him. He blinked a few times at the recognisable face yet a name he wasn't completely sure of. There was a number of hufflepuff girls in their year, it was hard keeping track of who was who. "Go on Joan, stop being a balloon hog and give her some," He joked. He couldn't hand them to her anyway.

Elliot tapped a finger against the glass display. "Chocolate," He filled in immediately while tugging a few coins from his pocket and placing them on the counter. He didn't really understand the varying displays of emotion around them, especially towards Arnold. He was acting no different from usual.

He took the Ice creams, eager to dig in as he handed Arnold his. "Thanks," he quickly added, remembering his parents scolding, sometimes he just forgot, usually to taken up by things around him.

"I saw something interesting before,"
he told Arnold, gesturing for him to come as he licked his ice cream, humming happily to himself. "Maybe we'll be able to find those pieces we needed?" He mused as he dug in his pocket for his little booklet. He'd made a list and a little sketch of each piece.

Penny brushed offer her knees after tripping over for the fourth time in the last hour. It was honestly quite amusing, given she wasn't usually a clumsy person, however on the busy streets of Diagon Ally, she was was definitely becoming more acquainted with the ground.

However, after picking herself up from this fall she recieved a much needed delight.

She pushed open the door to Quality Quidditch Supplies an obvious lightness to her steps as delight filled her gaze, her hair shifted to a rosy pink without he even thinking about it, she was happy after all.

"Ev!" She called in delight, catching him in a hug around the middle before he could even turn towards her. Her greetings use to be a jump in piggie back ride that was really just a cuddle but he'd shot up like a bean sprout and she wasn't confident enough in her jumping abilities. "Thank goodness!" She said with a laugh, finally releasing him. "It's complete madness out there, I could hardly see my own feet!" She told him, swaying happily as she smiled at him.

Everett had split from his parents and sister in order to stop by Quality Quidditch Supplies. He needed a new pair of Keeper gloves and was busy looking through the gloves to find a pair that would fit him. This last summer he grew over 5 inches and he could no longer fit into his old gear and thus needed some new gear. He vaguely heard the bell chime from over the door as he was looking at the gloves. He looked away from the gloves as he heard a familiar voice calling his name, but before he could turn he felt arms around his middle. "Penny!" he said as he turned around and gave her a proper hug. "It's always like this before school. Though it could be like this more so because of current events." He took a good look at her and noticed her hair, "Your hair is pink." He teased lightly as he pulled on a lock lightly.

Penny released a soft huff, lifting her hand to her hair, curling a lock of pink around her finger. "Of course it is, silly. I'm happy!" She said, though colour still settled high in her cheeks. Her nose scrunched slightly, the rosy strands turning back to their chocolate brown with streaks of turquoise, the strands he tugged on was the last to turn brown.

"I can't believe they'd do that, you know by dad wasn't even allowed in because of it," She said with a sad shake of her head, turquoise strands turning a dark blue. She shook her head slightly, as if shaking off those sad thoughts and turned her attention to what he'd been booking at.

A soft laugh slipped from her as she picked up a set of gloves. "I thought you'd gotten taller," she said with a playful huff. "Out grown them again." She murmured with a soft giggle. "Really you should just enchant them, though Quality Quidditch Supplies would truly miss you yearly purchase," she mused, cheeks warming with colour once more as she playfully splayed his fingers then pressed her tiny hands to his.

"You should get these ones," she said said, turning away from him to grab a larger size from the shelf, taking her hand back from where she'd pressed them together.

"Are you sure it's cause you are happy?" He commented with a playful wink. He noticed the color that had risen in her cheeks, a slight shade of pink decorated his cheeks as well. He watched as her hair went back to its natural state. He dropped his hand from her hair. "Yeah, it really sucks that Muggle parents aren't allowed to come in after what happened." He looked down then back up at her with dark blue hair now on her head. Everett chuckled softly, "Yeah well puberty can be a pain, according to Mom, I am not done yet." He looked back at the gloves, "Yeah I out grew them again. The problem I found with enchanting them, they just don't feel the same. Its a good thing its my last year then." He said gently shoving her shoulder. He let her take his hand and splay her fingers against his hand. More red color flushed into his cheeks. He took the gloves, "These are a great choice, Pen. Thanks."
