This is a sci-fi/fantasy RP. The Players are young Mages who have been brought to the Academy in order to develop their magical talent and protect their city. They will fight monsters that roam in the wilderness, investigate nefarious plots against King and Country, and so on. But that is all in their future. For now, after a bit of general plot setup, let us have the characters meet up, get to know one another, etc. We can feed them to monsters later.

The plot so far:
The students meet their teacher, Professor Yuki Okamoto, and have their first few days of instruction.

About a week into their Academy life, they are unexpectedly sent out on a mission to investigate the town of Normaden. They learn that a Witch, a powerful monster that sometimes grows from humans with magical potential, has developed in the region. Their Professor takes on the role of exterminating the Witch itself, leaving the students to handle some of its Familiars. During the students' fight, though, they are unexpectedly brought face to face with an Angel. After a fierce fight, the students are victorious and return to their homes safely.

Back in Uruk, the plots grow thicker. A massive force of Angels has gathered near Babylon, and the head honchos discuss plans of how to deal with the threat. The Academy's Headmaster learns that the Angel that the students encountered was sent by the Chief of the Galileians. What could Chief Herschel be plotting, and why involve these young Mages?

Completely unaware of these plots, the students are assigned another mission: to resolve an incident over who should possess a valuable research subject. They will be escorted and monitored by Essence Parker, one of the academy's Student Council members...

Essence Parker

Ignoring Londo, it seemed like the two girls (Elisa and Hibby) were starting to make a more and more solid theory. After hearing Hibby's latest theory, Essence looked at Ruya and Stanley. "Did either of you hear or notice something that contradicts this when you were at their places?"

Ruya Proudfeather

"Other than that I doubt whether Ewald's motives were really that noble, as I don't expect the Thaumaturgical Society to be as reckless with valuable research as he claimed them to be, I don't see any major inconsistencies."

Essence nodded. "As I said upon introducing this mission, they both had a good motive from the start. They were climbing through the ladders of their respective societies, and hoped this would be their big breakthrough. Sharing it would probably reduce the chance of that happening by a lot, as the hull they found was already a major letdown from what they expected to find there."

Essence paused a moment. "Well, it is possible that he actually believed some of what he said, but while his exact motives are difficult to find out, the fact that he had them is irrefutable." She then turned to Stanley. "What about Ahn's part?"

Stanley Barker

"It all seems to add up. The Galileans are a lot more organized than the Thaumaturgical Society, so if Ewald would try to cheat her out of her find by using his entire organization against her, as a semi-independent researcher, she'd have a very good motive for trying to frame him in return."

Essence was in thought for a moment, then smiled. "It sounds like we've got a strong enough theory to present to our employers, you've done very well. I'll take a moment to write all of your findings down into a report." As Essence wrote down the report, she read what she was writing aloud. "After failing to use the Galilean's technology to locate the hull for their first attempt and re-estimating the crash site for a second attempt, miss Walahfrid and mister Themistocles went ahead to scout it the area themselves, as the signal that was picked up was far smaller than what they expected. Due to miss Walahfrid's background, her chances of spotting something from a distance were considerably higher than those of mister Themistocles. This assumption is backed further by the fact that mister Themistocles seemed to have braced himself a distance away from the hull, suggesting someone rushed at him from that direction. It is thereby extremely likely that miss Walahfrid had gone to inspect the hull and to confirm whether or not it was their target, but that mister Themistocles attempted to use the Galilean's rules to call it in and claim it as his own find. Considering both parties were already aware of the fact that their find was considerably smaller than they hoped it to be, they both had a clear motive to try to hold onto all of it for themselves in order to attempt to use it as their break-through discovery. In an attempt to stop him, miss Walahfrid likely rushed over to mister Themistocles, causing him to brace himself, of which we found evidence at the scene, but having his phone smashed out of his hands and causing some pieces to break off and be left at the scene. Upon realizing this would make her the aggressor, and fearing she would lose the rights to the hull fragment, miss Walahfrid decided to use mister Themistocles' weapon to stab herself in an attempt to frame him, leaving some blood behind on the scene. This is backed up by the fact that she did not transform to prevent being stabbed, which she would have likely done if thing had turned into an actual fight. Having been a mage for long, transforming in a moments notice of a possible fight would've been second-nature, and mister Themistocles would have been unable to defeat her if she would have done so, which he seemed keenly aware of."

Having written that all down, Essence looked at the class. "Considering the circumstances, I'll be honest, I don't think much will happen. They are likely to both get a slap on the wrist, and it'll take them a very long time to have another shot at a promotion. Oh, and I'm expecting the hull itself will end up in the hands of whomever is willing to pay the most for it, as the money will first cover all expenses of the expedition and this investigation, then the remainder will likely be given to the party losing out on the hull. Although finding it first, trying to frame mister Themistocles has been a serious enough crime for a judge would deny Ahn the rights to the hull, so they're likely to settle this out of court instead." Essence stretched a bit. "I'll admit that this went better than I expected it would go. Did you guys have any questions left, or things you'd like added?"

Elisa

Elisa closed her eyes and she listened to Essence as she spoke out. Her imagination painted another reconstruction of the events. The scenery was monochromatic and distorted as if underwater. Elisa assumed the viewpoint of miss Ahn and she spotted the glimmer. In a few distorted moments she flickered closer to the object and moved in to observe it closer. And calling out for the other sillhouette.

The blue tinge suddenly twisted and the man reached out for a phone. In a fit of rage she lunged forward and attempted to knock down the man to stop the call. The phone was broken and the other character was a lot more powerful than what she was. It shattered into pieces of bright glass and Elisa observed it.

Then mysteriously she would make the split-second decision to cause self-harm and stab herself. Drops of blood would appear. And the reconstruction felt odd. Was it really the first thing someone would think in such of a situation. And then there was the fact that she was easily overpowered by the man at this stage. She was a lot weaker than the soldier, if she didn't transform...

Elisa opened her eyes and spoke up: "Miss Essence. I believe you are wrong with your assessment. Allow me to clarify. It is feasible that mister Ewald was initially caught by surprise, however when not transformed he was clearly more powerful physically than miss Ahn. Yes the phone was broken. However after that I believe that mister Ewald resorted to self-defense and slashed her. A combat knife is a heavy instrument and it is not so easily pulled out, especially by an external actor. Additionally the act of "self-mutilation" is not an easy feat to pull off and most people are incapable of doing so. It wouldn't come off as a natural choice of action. A trained soldier would never be so careless as to lose their equipment to another person. I believe that the attack was part of automation, soldiers are generally trained to act first and think later. This action would have been an excessive use of force against another. However his aspirations were not noble to begin with, him realizing miss Ahn's intentions would have likely given a rush of adrenaline to him and made him misjudge the situation. Even though transforming would come off as a second nature for a mage, it would still require for the mage to realize that they were in combat. Ahn was emotionally compromised by the sudden betrayal of Ewald and this should have resulted into a span of time of her being unable to think logically. The ability to come up with a solid plan to frame a soldier by self-mutilation and execute it before Ewald would regain his composure is borderline impossible. Upon being slashed, I believe that she would have been further shocked by the event while at the exact same time Ewald would have become shocked by his own actions as well making him to seize all hostilities and explain the emotional disposition between the parties at play. The only way for Ahn to pull this off would have been, if she had used her transformation to overpower the soldier. Outside the transformation, she was clearly weaker party. And for him to be able to resist her in her attempt to bullrush him down, he could have easily forgotten the fact that he was against a mage as he didn't even budge. Additionally a combat reflex from him could have further explained why the phone shattered down to the ground. Due to the nature of Ewald's actions, anything that Ahn did past that point shouldn't have come off as a surprise for him."

Essence Parker

Essence sighed a bit, remembering why she preferred working with just her spirits. She'd been given a who lot to debunk by Elisa.

"You're bringing up some interesting points, but there is a counter to most of them. If this were a formal investigation, rather than one used as a teaching experiment, we would have been a lot more thorough, but for now, I fear you'll have to suffice with my counter-arguments.

First, the entire idea of bringing a combat knife into an area with hostiles around is to be able to quickly use it for self-defense. Having it inaccessible would be very counterproductive. Having it stolen from him by Ahn would also be entirely unexpected, for why would she steal his knife if she could transform and shoot him? Soldiers aren't primarily trained for betrayal either, they are trained to work as a team. While I agree he'd likely be trained to act first and think later, I believe that likely stopped the moment he tried calling in the object. Considering he braced himself in advance, Ahn's charge would be a good moment to think he might have screwed up by angering her.

Second, Ahn has been a mage for 10 years in the Academy, like all mages, and then some more in the Thaumaturgical Society. It means she's both got some skills and experience in combat, maybe even more so than Ewald had. As for her self-mutilation, it comes easier to some than to others, your own teammate is an example of that. I also highly doubt that she'd truly be emotionally compromised from Ewalds betrayal, as it was shown they barely knew each-other and it is debatable that they ever even trusted each-other at one point or another to begin with. To add to that, it wouldn't surprise me if she'd already faced her fair share of betrayals, considering her current position. The world of mages isn't exactly a fair one.

Thirdly, she was stabbed, rather than slashed. While a slash might seem more logical in self-defense, a stab is more logical for offense. It is also notable that convincingly slashing your arm would be more difficult than convincingly stabbing it, especially within a short time-span.

Fourthly, just the fact that she could transform would already be an important factor for Ewald to account for. Strength isn't all about what is on physical display, but about the fear you can instill upon someone. Even a well-trained soldier would be worried if they saw a mage rush at them. It's likelier he didn't budge because he knew that she could transform and shoot him, than that he didn't budge because he had forgotten she could transform."

It seemed everything came together gloriously! Elisa was finishing up the arguments, but after she did, Londo stood up from his chair, "Ah ha! You managed to solve the case without my glorious help! You two, you are truly glorious! Even with a mniscule hint from me, you got the case correct! Congratulations!" Londo said, clapping and walking up to the dog again, "And good job to you too! You did an amazing job of helping!" Londo said, going to pet the dog again, but then feeling a sharp pain in his hand and withdrawing, "Yeouch!" Londo said, shaking the hand, which was now starting to draw blood.

Londo shrugged, "One day you will appreciate the value of being pet on the head. I don't understand why you don't enjoy it." He said, the blood dripping from his hand, seemingly ignored by Londo

As it turns out, Hibiscus's and Elisa's theories were correct. Well, aside from the apparent motivation for Ewald. That made Hibiscus pause, Ewald's motivation actually wasn't true? Hibiscus didn't know all that much about the Thaumaturgical Society to know whether what he said was the truth or not, but apparently they wouldn't destroy the evidence like Ewald said they would. Either Ewald had a prejudice against the Society, or Ruya was telling the truth about them not being careless. But then, what exactly was Ewald's motivation?...

It seemed like Essence answered that question immediately, a promotion. Hibiscus was shocked, he went through all of that just for a promotion?! Hibiscus thought his motivation was a noble one, not a purely greedy one. The fact that he decided to call in something that Ahn found first solidified that, however.

Hibiscus was angry, she actually thought Ewald was a good man, trying to further society in general with the findings, but both of them were just greedy. That was something Hibiscus couldn't handle. She actually felt sorry for Ahn. Ahn found it first, but Ewald tried to cash in on her discovery. If she had let Ewald call in, he would have gotten the discovery, but if she intervened, then she would seem the aggressor. All-in-all, it seemed Ahn would get the worse deal out of it, with Ewald none the worse for wear.

Elisa wanted to cut in with some arguments of her own, but Essence seemed to shut her down, and Hibiscus squirmed in her seat when Essence pointed out some people self-mutilated themselves easily. Hibiscus wouldn't call it easy, as she wouldn't easily be able to do that right now, but she could see how some people were willing to do that.

After they were done talking, Hibiscus started to speak up, but was interrupted by Londo, yet again, who walked up to the front proclaiming his glory, and then was bitten by the dog he had started to pet, and was now bleeding from the wound. Hibiscus got up in a panic, yelling at him from across the room, "L-L-Londo! Are you ok?!? H-Here, let me help... T-Transform..." Hibiscus said, muttering transform to show the class what she thought to be an embaressing outfit.

"Oh I'm fiiiiiiine! The dog just bit a little harder than I thought, but he's still a good dog!" Londo said, going for another pet before Hibiscus yelled out again, "Fucking moron, stop trying to pet the dog!"

Hibiscus then walked up to Londo, applying the Mark of Hibiscus onto him, then stabbing her arm to heal Londo, "Maybe you should get the hell out of here, I think we're done anyways."

"Hibbyyyyy, I'm tiiiiireddd... Can we go hooooome?" Lyka asked sleepily, but Hibiscus ignored that and instead transformed back, "P-Please Londo... M-Maybe you should get some rest?..." She said sheepily, but Londo laughed, and started walking towards the door, "Haha! No rest for Glory! I am going to spread the good word of Cadwgan! Ryan, do you want to come with me? Member benefits of a Disciple of Glory include being glorious!" Londo asked, but if Ryan refused, he would just say, "Shame! Maybe next time!" And he would leave. Otherwise, Londo would laugh and leave anyways, letting Ryan follow him.

Hibiscus sighed, going back to her seat and sitting down. Today was a doozy wasn't it? Felt two weeks long even.

Elisa

Elisa bit her lip and she shook her hair bit more. And she then gave out a hopeless sigh. She realized that she had given probably bit too much credit for the two. "So one was an idiot covering up a hopeless lie and another one was a self-mutilating psychopath who would do anything for a promotion... Why can't people be normal. Sorry miss. Essence, I just wanted... to believe in humanity." Elisa picked up her notebook but she didn't feel like opening it. 'Elisa in Wonderland', it was the notes that she started scribbling down before this entire expedition started. Elisa rummaged her bag and the only thing that was left for her was a few pieces of rose quartz... However at that point she snapped out at the scene happening at the class.

Elisa's eyes widened in shock as she watched at the blood and she moved both of her hands against her mouth to prevent a gag reflex. At this point Elisa was feeling a little light headed... The method of healing wasn't making her feel any better either and it made her realize that their class had someone who also stabbed their own hand for healing. Elisa quickly opened her notebook and added a remark: 'Despite of thought to be impossible. Apparently in modern society, stabbing yourself is a completely normal habit when it comes to healing and advancements in career.'

She closed her notebook and rubbed her temple. Thinking that she could have chosen her words bit more carefully. "I'm so sorry, I didn't meant to confuse you two apart. I kinda forgot." She gave a look at Hibicus.

Rainer was hurt. Ever since coming here, it has been nothing but insufferable agony. He gets bullied. His backpack gets dissed on... Wait, people avoid you based on physical features and the like? Appearance, smell, taste... Rainer felt like this doggy had blown his mind. He started thinking about it hard, so hard in fact, he just kept staring at the doggy with more intensity than ever before, trying to figure out how to best follow through on the advice the doggy gave him and whether or not it will be worth vandalizing his spirits' home for that...

When they were in the classroom, he got rejected hard by the Birdie, which seemed to confirm the doggy's theory about smell = less interaction. After that was confirmed he went over to a wall, leaned against it and stared at the doggy for a few minutes. He wasn't even aura shocked, he was just staring at the doggy, blinking on the occasion, thinking about what he had said. What was more important, vandalizing his spirits house or human interaction. Tough choice.

His constant attention at the doggy was suddenly interrupted by the red haired boy, who decided to try to pet the doggy again and got bit. Wait... Bit? He was bit? Doesn't that mean he's a friendly doggy after all? Many animals have bitten him before, but wasn't it just a show of affection as he was playing with them? Hmm... This doggy did a lot of interesting things for sure... Was this dog a Tsundere? It was a phrase that didn't even cross his mind, as he had never heard of the word, however that phrase would definitely describe Rainer's thought process the best. Hypercrit. Hypothermia... Hypocrat. Hippocrit. That was probably the word.

"Cool."

Suilen had been content with letting Hibiscus and Elisa vocalize what was on her own mind during the entire turn of events. A web of half-truths indeed, twisting and knotting up like a serpentine orgy of chaos. It was nice, at least, to see that her immediate beliefs of the evidence they uncovered at the site of the crime was correct. Nice too, to see that both of those adults were dumbasses that fucked up hilariously in multiple fronts. Reminded Suilen, really, of all those saucy domestic violence cases she saw on TV, back when the nature documentaries weren't airing.

Was a bit of a shame for Walahfrid though. A no win situation like that mustn't have been too pleasant...but at least she spooked Themistocles. She looked down at Drafi, whose eyes were transfixed upon Hibiscus.

"Whatcha looking at?" she said.

A click of a razor-sharp beak. "Nothing."

Suilen snorted. "You're looking at her."

"Maybe." Drafi's head rotated 190 degrees.

"Don't drink her."

"Why?"

"It's weird."

"But eating humans is ok?"

"Humans that I don't know, yea."

"Weird."

Suilen bopped him on the head. Drafi clawed her on the thigh.

"So, Essence, now what? Do we get to participate in their arrest as well? Confront them about their lies? Fight them?"

After providing the evidence he gathered, plastic pieces and all, Ryan dismissed Kashmir. Suilen and Ryan were the last to show their results, so speculations and theories started to come off his sharper peers. He had managed to figure out a thing or two, but nothing that others had not shared with similar words. For now, he fiddled with his phone, going through his pictures, hoping to find something else in them.
It was a wasted effort though, as things were unraveled rather fast. They already had formed a conclusive theory that pleased the actual investigator. Ryan sighed, disappointed that he didn't help with this part of the mission "If only this was about just tracking... then maybe..." he pondered on that possibility, his eyes were lost in thought. Not for long, though. Ryan shook his head, as he snapped back to reality. Essence was just being courteous at this point. Debunking upcoming lines of thought, and inviting the group to make questions if they didn't have something clear. But she already even told them what will be of Ewald and Ahn.
Ryan heard Londo call to him "A walk with Londo sounds better than feeling defeated, alone in my room". With that concluded, Ryan said "Ah, sure... Just give me a sec!" walked over to Essence slowly. He then asked her "Miss E-Essence, would you... Like to... Have t-the pictures I took? F-For your report?" If Essence rejected them, he would nod and leave with Londo, otherwise, he would sent them to her with a small smile on his face before leaving, happy he did a bit more to help.

Essence Parker

Essence sighed as she watched Londo leave, feeling relief that she wasn't responsible for that kid anymore. She'd also be glad to leave the other creep behind, the one that was staring at Stanley with hungry eyes. As for Elisa; "Don't worry too much about it. Although for as much as 'innocent until proven guilty goes,' it is good to keep in mind that people in these types of work rarely remain innocent. There are better examples to look at if you want to have some faith in humanity, but in my experiences, sticking with keeping faith in your spirits..." Essence realized that wouldn't mean much to a rare case like Elisa, causing her to unnaturally pause for a short moment before continuing. "... and friends is a more worthwhile investment if you chose them both wisely."

Suilen's question was of a pretty different category. "I'm afraid not, we're merely to report our findings. Normally I'd also prefer confronting those under suspicion directly, but the different politics between all the various factions mean that option is off the table."

Last up was Ryan's suggestion, which was actually quite a good one. "Ah, yes, those would be a good addition to the report. Thank you." He should have her number already from when she gave it at the start of it all, but if he hadn't, she'd give it again so he could sent the pictures over.

With that, all was said and done. "That should warp everything up. Thank you all for your participation. Well, most of you, at least." It seemed like Lavi had never showed up to investigate anything, after all. As Essence was about to leave, she seemed to think of something and dug through one of her pockets, taking out two small blue crystals. She'd hand one over to Elisa and one to Hibby. "Here, a little bonus from me personally, for being able to piece all clues together into some good theories. They restore a small (50) amount of prana when crushed. They're less strong than they look, so you can do so by hand. Oh, and take care not to crush them on accident, once they're crushed they're gone."

Now that all was truly set and done, she could make her exit, followed by the three spirits. "We'll probably run into each-other again at one point or another, so I'll see you then."

Stanley Barker

Stanley was in a bad mood, having been forced back into his old biting behavior. "You're likely to lose a finger if you keep this up." The fact that the boys blood was still on Stanley's teeth should give the threat enough weight for the kid not to try pulling this bullshit again. Surely he wouldn't like it if random strangers tried ruffling through his hair either. He was glad to quickly follow Essence out of the room the moment he was given a chance.

Rewards:
Suilen, Ryan, Elisa, Ozymandius, Londo, Hibiscus and Rainer all gain 2 Character Points (CP) from completing this mission.

Elisa and Hibiscus gain an additional singe-time use prana crystal that restores 50 prana upon usage.

Although Elisa had said her point out loud to the entire class, it's almost as if Hibiscus didn't hear it, so Hibiscus only gave a confused look to Elisa when she apologized.

Everything was finally wrapped up, but Essence gave Hibiscus and Elisa special prizes: prana crystals. Hibiscus wasn't sure how to even go about this without crushing it, but finally took the chance and set it in her pocket, hoping Lyka wouldn't crush it with her core, "T-T-Thank you..." But after Essence left the room, Hibiscus realized she still had some unanswered questions.

Hibiscus quickly packed up her stuff, and addressed the entire class, "I-I'm going to go now... S-See you!" She said, Leaving the classroom. She sure hoped the teacher wouldn't mind.

Well, not that the teacher was even there to begin with.....

And so, the doggy left. He felt like he got mentally bullied somehow, but no matter. He had thick skin. He was prepared for anything and everything that would come his way! Now that the mission was apparently over, he decided to leave the classroom as well. Honestly, it was all quite strange... Was their job to talk to that pretty onee-san, that Rainer had to convert into his beliefs? They didn't even see a spaceship... This was certainly a disappointing mission. He felt like he had accomplished nothing. And considering some of the sour faces he saw, everyone else probably felt the exact same way as Rainer. Perhaps he should find some animals to play with to cheer himself up...

Location: Academy

He walked through the hallways wondering what to do. Were classes also over now? Well, there were none in the first place, ever since he arrived. Strange... Strange, indeed. Was this place really a school? He hoped to be able to learn how to write properly, but apparently that wasn't gonna happen anytime soon. Hence, he decided to go to his room and pray for a short while, before going to eat.

Location: Dorm room 34

Once he got to his room, he went and started his usual little ritual and prayed to Atziri. This time, there was no hurry either, so he took his time and basked in the feeling of joy that he felt, hoping that his thoughts and his pure heart were reaching Atziri... And he felt it.. The Goddess smiling back at him, enveloping his body in her warmth. The best way to describe his emotions at that moment was... Euphoria. He was in utter bliss. His Goddess recognized him. Even his spirit was overjoyed, unable to contain its' "voice" . He basked in the fading sensation for a few more minutes, despite his prayers not being answered anymore... But that mattered not. The important thing was that his goddess smiled back at him and that's all he needed to forget anything unfortunate or bad that had happened during this day... He later left the room and went to have a meal.

Location: Cafeteria

Rainer went on his merry way to the cafeteria to finally eat something better than hospital food. Well, actually. Hospital food was waaaay better than whatever he's ever had at home. Hospital food was already quite luxurious in his eyes. This was the first time, he had ever gone to a cafeteria before, he was a bit confused as to what to do and where to go. He wandered around, staring at everyone he saw along the way, up until he noticed someone else ordering food. He observed the process carefully to learn of the ways of the normal people. After he was done "investigating", he walked over and asked the person behind the counter. "I don't have money, but is it possible to eat here somehow? I'll work." The woman stared at him and thought: "This kid definitely new here..." She sighed and then told him: "You don't need to pay here. What would you like?"
"Anything is fine."
"Alright."
She gave him some mashed potatoes with some cutlets, with a side of salad and some apple juice. A fairly large portion too. He stared at the food intensely as he was given it. This was the first time he had seen so much food on a single plate. He was basically drooling. Wait! No! He was literally drooling! He wiped the drool off his face and said: "Thank you!!"
"You're welcome!"
Rainer then proceeded to go sit down and started to eat, with no table manners what-so-ever. At least he knew how to use a fork.
"Ahhh... What a cute little kid.." The woman thought... "He creeps the hell outta me though..."

Londo Sperry THE GREAT!

Ryan Gamaris

8Iisnn9.jpg

After Londo left the classroom, with Ryan following behind him, he let out a sigh of victory, heading who knows where (but following a path to leave the school), "well that was a fun time, don'tcha agree, Ryan?" Londo said, believing the victory of the class to be a victory of his.

---

Ryan struggled to keep Londo's pace after they left the classroom, still a bit distressed by his lack of usefulness. His gloominess was swept away from his mind though, Londo's unwavering positivity slightly reflected in his answer to him "It was… Exploring the scene was very exciting" Ryan decided to not display his sense of defeat as much as possible to Londo. He didn't want to give bad vibes to Londo, thinking that all that energy and positivity had a limit… "If that is even possible" Regardless, he didn't want to try.

---

Londo chuckled, picking up the school's newspaper while he did so, skimming the contents, "It does seem totally exciting to check out the crime scene! Ozy just had me and Rainer not talk, until we did talk, that was boring when we didn't talk though, so I did talk and it was more fun! Seeing the scene of the crime itself must have been really fun! You SHOULD probably explain the evidence a bit better though, I almost wouldn't have solved the case!" Londo said, finishing up with the boring news that didn't say anything specifically about him, but more his class, "Also, we made the paper, isn't that amazing?!"

---

Ryan noted Londo picking up a copy of the academy's newspaper, telling him a little about how did his part went. He had to give some credit to Ozymandius, people would be more prone to listen to an adult rather than a kid. But still, Londo seemed to be capable enough to interview an adult, based on the summary he gave. It was then that Londo called him out on his less than stellar performance in describing the scene. "I know, I know… It's just that my nerves couldn't handle pressure that well… So I panicked, and hoped that the plenty of pictures I took spoke for themselves" Ryan sighed, slightly frustrated. Londo was swift to change the subject, mentioning their appearance on the news. "Oh, yeah… Seems like they have high hopes on us" Ryan commented, as he peered over Londo's shoulder at the article.

---

Londo glanced once more at the newspaper: stuff about idols, moving armies. Nothing too important. He then tossed the newspaper onto another newspaper stand the first chance he got, "Still, I wish they took pictures or something. You know how cool that'd be if we had the higher grades oogling us and thinking about how awesome we are? Essence even said something about it earlier."

And just as they were about to leave the school, Londo spotted something glorious, "Hol' up." Londo said, holding a hand out to stop Ryan for the moment. Londo went up to the wall, where a poster was posted, announcing a tournament. 1 on 1, 2 on 2, open, beginner, intermediate, "Ryan!" Londo shouted, dragging Ryan closer to the poster, "This will be it! We can enter this tournament! You can't handle pressure that well? Best way to fix that is to join a match! Fighting gloriously, that will be amazing! Entering open class is a sure-fire way to get those nerves into high gear!" Londo said, striking a pose.

----

"Hmmm… I think we're not at that level yet… But the news did say that we're the first to be rushed to missions, so I think we'll get to them faster" upon hearing the last part of the comment, adding a "Huh? What did she say?". He didn't recall any praise other than doing well on their first investigation.

Once they neared the exit of the building, Londo suddenly stopped dead in his tracks, gesturing him to stop. "What is it?" he asked, only to be dragged towards a poster in the wall. A tournament was
being announced, with multiple tiers and classes. Londo then elaborated, suggesting that entering said tournament would help his awkwardness. Londo suggested to enter the open tier of the event, but Ryan had his doubts. "Londo, I don't think we could handle anything they throw at us in that tier..." after a brief moment of consideration, Ryan added "Maybe we could join the beginner tier, like movies put it… Pick someone our own size"

---

Londo thought about it a moment, thinking hard, "Hmmm. You might be right, we gotta walk before we run, and get your nerves wracking before we get them steaming on the grill. Alright then! Let's sign up for it! I'll talk to whoever's in charge for it, cause I wanna go solo as well! That'll be a fun experience. Aaaanyways, let's get going onto the city and spread glory there! Where say you first?" Londo said, walking away from the poster and school

---

Londo went deep in thought for an instant, bringing out a verdict when he focused back on Ryan. He agreed on signing both up in the beginners tournament, and himself for the 1-on-1 class. Ryan couldn't help but feel excitement, along with a bit of worry as, he didn't want Londo to lose because of him. What if they lost because of him? Would Londo be mad at him? Questions for later. An energetic nod was Ryan's response of choice.
Londo then moved on to 'spread glory'. And asked Ryan where should they start. "I'm still not quite sure on how do you plan to do that… But near the center of the city sounds good… you know, lots of people there..." was Ryan's suggested approach to the bizarre task.

---

Londo nodded, walking towards the city, "You know. Being a disciple of glory is pretty neat, you ever thought about visiting Cadwgan to become his disciple?" Londo asked, arms behind his head as he walked.

---

While they paced towards their destination, Londo brought an interesting question to the table. "Well..." Ryan started, going over the question a couple of times in his head. "I imagine so… But I don't think I'd really fit as a disciple of his... But having a god backing you up sounds like a great plan… maybe I'll do some looking around of it later"

---

Londo nodded, but kept silent for a moment, "Well, it is what it is. Just don't go looking for a God just for power you know? You gotta make sure it's the right god for you, yea? As for me-" Londo said, starting to move against the crowd of people, "I am truly a disciple of Cadwgan! Glory is something that was meant for me! Give it time, Ryan. I went to go see Cadwgan many many years before I even became a mage, and only became a disciple recently, so truly make sure it's for you!" Londo said, arriving at a fountain near the center-ish area of the city, good enough, right?

Londo then stood up on the fountain, bellowing to the crowd gathered around him, "Yo,everyone! I am Londo Sperry, the GREAT! This is my good friend, Ryan Gamaris! We have come here today to spread the good word of glory! Come on up here, Ryan, you have to talk about it too!" Londo said, leaning down to grab Ryan's shoulder to pull him up if he wasn't already trying to get up.

---

After thinking it over, Londo gave him a pretty solid advice. He made some good points. All Ryan could say was "Heh, you certainly found your fit" while smiling.
Not long after, they came across a small open area with a fountain in the middle of it. Londo used it as platform and started yelling an introduction to the people around. Ryan's brain decided to focus on the people giving weirded out stares at Londo. He started feeling restless. It was then that his name entered the conversation. Before he could react, Londo pulled him up the fountain. Ryan wasn't pleased, but he did agree to this. So to avoid Londo causing an accident, he went with the strength of the pull, getting to the ledge easier. He looked around, eyes now were on him now. Preparing to panic, Ryan asked in a low tone, "What kind of things am I supposed to say?" he didn't want to ruin Londo's work.

---

Londo crossed his arms, then uncrossed them, as if showing off the city to Ryan, "Anything you want… Like-" Londo said, as he cupped his hands to yell to the crowd, "Ryan and I are o' so glorious! Glorious enough that we are entering the Academy's tournament as a duo. Prepare for greatness as we duke it out against various enemies! Applaud our supreme power!" Londo said, shoving his arms out to either side to look like a godly messiah.

"Something like that." Londo said to Ryan, looking at him now.

---

"Anything I want?" That had Ryan confused. How is he going to convey glory just by saying anything? As he heard Londo's example his face started to mimic the color of his face. The more Londo spoke, the more passing by people focused on them. By the time Londo finished, and looked at Ryan. He was barely moving. Frozen in shock, at which point his body went into panic mode, and he blurted out "That's right! Our performance will be so great, that even the god of glory will be pleased with the might of his disciple!" There, he said something. Was that enough? Hopefully. He might die of anxiety otherwise.

---

Londo raised a fist in victory, "YES! WE CAN!" Londo said, menacing symbols creeping off of him, at least in his own mind. He smirked gloriously, then glanced at Ryan, who seemed to be having a slight anxiety attack, "Hahaha!" He laughed, jumping down from the fountain, "Good work, Ryan! There will definitely be some people who come to watch now! I think that should be good for today, you can head on home to rest, I'll stay here and spread glory further for the both of us! Remember, small steps!" Londo said, giving him a thumbs up.

---

For Ryan's delight, his stress paid off. As Londo seemed content enough with Ryan's attempt. Seeing Londo jumping off the fountain, he did so as well. Londo felt like that did the trick, for this area at least. He also noticed Ryan could barely do that once, so he advised him to go back. Ryan smiled nervously, unable to deny it. "R-right, good luck!" he answered. Londo repeated his advise from earlier, while giving him a thumbs up. This was far from a small step, but hey, Londo is just trying to help. With that said "Okay, see you later" was his farewell, as he disappeared amongst the crowd on his way back to the campus.

---

As Londo waved back to Ryan, he turned back towards the crowds, "Now… Where was I?" He asked himself, stepping back onto the fountain to proclaim glory once more.

Londo continued that for several hours, before deciding that the crowd was now dispersed too thin, and he should probablyleave and get going back to the dorms again...

Celestia Mayer von Rothschild

As Elisa was at the cafeteria, eating lunch, another student walked in. Well, her being a 'student' wasn't something you might initially guess, going by appearances, as most were likely to mistake her for a spirit. It seemed like her odd attire wasn't the only thing that stood out, as she was greeted by a fair few people, suggesting she was pretty well-known in the school. Oddly enough, none of the greetings seemed like a way to greet a friend, although all sounded polite. More oddly, upon spotting Elisa, she walked straight to the girl and sat down across from her.

"Hey, you're from that new class, right? The one that Essence taught yesterday~ Right?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Huh?" Elisa gasped as a person she had never seen before sat in front of her. Had she really been so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't notice such a character making her appearance. Her confusion lasted until Celestia finished her sentence and mentioned Essence in the next one. Making Elisa return a mellow smile at the lady with the left hand in her lap she hid the reward that she had received from Essence before inside her pocket. After which she would give a reply for Celestia.

"Yes that is correct. My name is Elisa, a pleasure to make acquaintance with you, miss?" Elisa would hold her hand out.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Celestia Mayer von Rothschild, but just Celestia will do~" She extended a hand to shake Elisa's with a smile. She proceeded to turn her head a bit to the side as she observed Elisa, before asking another question. "So what's it like to be taught by Essence?" After a short pause, she followed it up with a second question. "Oh, and is it true that your class killed an angel?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elisa would laugh from joy when asked the first question and smiled brightly: "Yeah, she was really cool. It was a lot of fun." Mostly this was of Elisa thinking about her daredevil adventure exploring the insides of the old airship.

However the second question would wash away most of the joy from her face, and make her break eye-contact. "I guess it's true... It was a little scary."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Celestia smiled upon hearing the first answer. "That's good to hear! She was surprisingly nervous about teaching, to the point where it was actually cute to see her stress out over it~ I'm glad it well went." Maybe it was for the better that Celestia wouldn't find out how none of Elisa's reply had reflected any of Essence's teaching capabilities.

The second answer was a bit less cheery, but Celestia brushed it off. "Ah, don't worry~ You'll get used to it, or at the very least you'll get used to not being used to it! She placed a finger on her chin. "Still, for some first class students to take on an angel. It's quite something~ Either you've got a class of prodigies or you've gotten extremely lucky."

Onto a third question. "Say, what's your surname? I know quite a few families throughout Uruk, so I might know yours too."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elisa let out a quiet chuckle that would turn into a sweet giggles as she heard that Essence was actually stressed out about it. It made her appear less like a professional detective with unbreachable shell and more like a fragile human being. Elisa was now fully captivated by Celestia, however she had no idea what was about to come.

After Celestia had asked the third question, Elisa inclined her head slightly: "My last name it's ... My family... " Elisa gaped with her mouth for air while her gaze turned glassy, wandering into nothingness.

It was much worse inside her own head than what her reaction had betrayed. She felt a cold spread against the back of her head as her memories fragmented into pieces. She could hear many names. Many families, many surnames. Yet it was always Elisa. Always Elisa. Always Elisa. An echo. But the last name. It was different. The sum of her memories, how could she have so many family names. And just like that she was no longer in cafeteria.

She had escaped inside her own dreams and fantasies. Staring forward over a vast horizon in the heavens. She remembered this place. Elisa took a step forward to explore and her footfall echoed in the spacious white room with an unnatural white hue. On her left was a large piano and Elisa walked next to it. She played a few notes which reverberated unnaturally. "This was my room... Inside the Shard? Mom? Dad!?" Elisa watched outside a large glassy window. It was breathtakingly beautiful and the sunlight was gaining a red radiance over the sky as it was refracted by the countless prisms within the building.

Elisa closed the cover over the keys of the piano and walked towards the window. An uneasy feeling choked her throat as she noticed the sky. Over a thousand gaping maws with flesh-shearing teeth and an endless writhing mass of tentacles sprawled down from heavens, crowned by a black star. Elisa started gasping for air and she collapsed to the ground, holding her palm against the window. Elisa had a panic-attack and she was hyperventilating. [Everyone within the cafeteria would notice that Elisa suddenly started hyperventilating before falling down from her chair a few seconds later.]

Elisa became unable to discern reality and she couldn't think of a way to escape from the nightmarish hallucination. While she kept gasping for air for almost to the point of asphyxiation, the scenery outside the window changed drastically. Warm colors turning into darkness and hues of blue, green and purple. Geometry of buildings turning alien. Eventually shape and color blended together into a pulsating slush, like it was all alive. She could feel how the floor underneath her shifted and the tower begun to fall like a cut tree. The room was in a freefall, Elisa along with it. Eventually the inclination changed and the floor that she was sitting on became steeper until gravity would slide her down from the floor against the window.

Elisa desperately crawled on the window as she was unable to do anything but watch the horrifying ever accelerating descent. What was worse was that the glass underneath begun to crack from her weight like ice. The fear and panic made her sob uncontrollably until her hands instinctively found the tiny mana crystal inside her pocket, it reminded her of reality and of who she was. She grabbed unto it and the floor underneath her shattered into a million fragments of glass. Elisa closed her eyes and she fell down. Coming to her senses at the exact moment as her kneecaps hit the floor in the cafeteria. She was still hyperventilating, however now aware of her surroundings.

"The Shard. *Pause* It was all just a bad memory, right? My parents, I can't remember… Their names. " Despite of Elisa's hysterical breathing her words were clear and well articulated. She was quite surprised how it was, as if there were two parts of her. One with it's rationality shattered beyond relief and another that was unfazed by her brief hallucination. Elisa took the mana crystal out from the pocket and tried to get up but her legs were like that of a newborn fawn. It was a little miracle that she hadn't broken trinket by now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Celestia watched in silence as the simple question for a last name sent Elisa into the abyss. To all whom watched, Celestia seemed so completely unfazed by the girl having a breakdown in front of her that people might actually wonder if something was wrong or not. Even as Elisa fell down whilst hyperventilating, Celestia merely stood up to head over to the other side of the table. Curious eyes were met with a calm smile that didn't entirely match the eyes that seemed to warn them about minding their own business. One way or another, Celestia had a reputation that made a single look enough to keep most people from intervening.

As Elisa finally calmed down enough to speak again, Celestia helped her back up and sat her down on the chair. As if nothing was wrong, she'd reply in a cheery voice. "That's a shame, but don't worry, names are overrated anyways~" With a name as fancy as hers, it was an odd thing to say, but it was debatable whether or not it'd reach Elisa anyhow. "Although you could always ask Essence to investigate~" Upon confirming Elisa wouldn't instantly drop down from her chair again, Celestia would head back to her side of the table to sit back down.

After a bit, Celestia proceeded to ask a casual question at a casual tone. "So how do you like the Academy?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After having adjusted to the cafeteria, Elisa was relaxed about the circumstances. Mostly this was due to Celestia acting like nothing had happened. Despite of shortness of breath she'd chuckle: "Yeah. I am just happy being an Elisa. No bother." Elisa now placed the crystal to the table and she'd look at the pastries available, it was fairly easy to tell with her wandering gaze that she was craving for sweets and some tea.

"Would she really do that? Investigate over them... I couldn't ask for such favor..." Elisa would give a melancholic smile and curl her hair around her finger, she almost had soggy eyes. She had a concept of how her childhood was, yet all of her memories before the academy were a shattered mess with irregularities and impossibilities. Still those were her memories and she was happy with the pieces that she had. It didn't have to be pretty.

For the casual question however Elisa had probably the least casual answer: "I don't know... If I like the academy. I like the people. But I feel like we are all caged inside. I would want to change things. However I don't know, if I could make a difference. I think it's unfair what they have done to some of the kids, making them face horrors like the angels. It is as if age is just a number when it comes to mages."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would Essence really do that? Celestia was lost in thought for a short moment, then shrugged. "If she really gets into something, she'll try figuring things out until no stone is left unturned. At that point, only the teachers here or the headmaster himself have a shot at putting a stop to her." Celestia pointed at Elisa. "So I guess it'd come down to how interesting she'll find your case." At that point, it was up to Elisa and Essence themselves to sort it out.

As for the second part, Celestia couldn't help smile at it, but it was clearly not genuine. "That's pretty much how it is, yes. Although your class seems to have it particularly rough. Sending you kids out on a mission so soon is a first." From a smile less than genuine, it went to a mischievousness one. "The problem is, you did quite well, it's the talk of the school. If you'd want a shot at changing things, succeeding at a test that made things worse isn't ideal. Maybe try dying next time? It'll be painful, but at least it'll show that first years aren't ready for such heavy missions~"

Before Elisa could reply, Celestia continued. "Ah, forget that. It's just a joke~" She tapped on the table for a bit with her nails. "The only actual advice I could give is to find a way to deal with it, for as long as it isn't more self-destructive than those missions are, of course. Oh, or you could set some insane goals. A surprising amount of people try that. Trying to become the strongest, trying to make sure nobody else has to fight like them, trying to make a happier world for everyone, trying to save mages from this fate, whatever insane goal you need to believe in to keep going is as good as any~"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Celestia smiled at her, Elisa responded to the mischievous smile with her own, it was quite catlike cute and her mood had really gone to a better one now. "So to..." Elisa tried to reply and her tone was somehow mirroring Celestia, yet at same time she sounded serious in a strange way. Like if dared to do something crazy, she might actually pull it off. When Celestia mentioned it was a joke, Elisa gave a short sneer and her mischievous smile deepened.

Elisa quickly scraped her hair with her fingers to make it appear less messy. "What, were you the personal life coach of the second year rep?" Elisa would throw in her own joke and then reach out for Celestia's hands, little knowing who she was. If Celestia didn't pull her hands back, Elisa would hold Celestia's hands with her own. (If Celestia pulled back, Elisa would appear even more confident.) "No. I think, if I want to make a change. I need to go somewhere where my voice can be heard. I'm not going to spout nonsense about ideals and such. I could just join the student council. And then..." [If Elisa held Celestia's hands she would give a small pinch to her.] "... I could be a prickly thorn by the Academy's side and demand more for the students. How is that for a goal?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A life-coach? Her? Now there's a fun one. She laughed at it. "No, but now that you mention it, Fenton's a perfect example of my theory~" As for pulling back hands, Celestia saw no reason to do so. It also seemed like the jokes hadn't ended yet. Celestia already tried to imagine the various reactions of the student council towards someone like Elisa joining. Some would love someone like Elisa, some would hate it, others wouldn't care at all. As for Celestia herself; "That would be fun~"

In a fairly smooth motion, Celestia suddenly pulled her hands loose from Elisa's and turned them to lightly pin Elisa's hands down on the table. "A fair warning though. You'd better make sure there's no dirt to dig up about you, as it's a dog eat dog business if you want to rebel against the Academy. We wouldn't want you to become the next in a long list of failures, now would we? Become a thorn at the risk of having your entire branch cut off." The mixture of threat and warning was left open to interpretations, as Celestia simply smiled through it all.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In that moment as Celestia gave her a word of 'warning' Elisa realized that the academy was a much more dangerous place than what she had thought. Elisa gave an innocent smile. "Thank you. I really appreciate that." That would be fun? -- Could she be?

"By the way. You and Essence sound like you two are close, are you classmates? I am not really sure, if I could ask on my own for help from her, we are almost strangers to one another." Elisa acted completely natural despite of the pressure on her hands, though her craving for tea and sweets was intensifying.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The kid had some fire, that much seemed clear. Letting go of Elisa's hands at her word of appreciation, Celestia merely broadened her smile. As for Essence and her... "No, she's in a year below me, we just meet up from time to time~" She held her right hand up against her chin for a bit. "She doesn't care much about whom she knows or doesn't know, she cares about whether or not the mystery is worth solving to her. How you'd convince her of that would be up to you~"

With that, Celestia stood up. "Well, I should be off again~" As she turned to leave, she suddenly recalled something. "You should try the Red Velvet Cake here! It's color isn't the only appetizing thing about it~" With that, Celestia waved goodbye and headed off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elisa gave a pout as Celestia got up before giving her a smile on the go. Then Celestia mentioned the cake and Elisa sprung up from her chair and slammed her hands on the table:"Oh my gosh! It's my favorite!" she shouted a little too loud for the place. Elisa couldn't control her as her urge for sweets and for some tea had gone critical. Elisa would then go around and give a hug to Celestia: "Thank you! I had a lot of fun!" before Elisa would just dart off to get some cake and tea and then return back to her seat, if Celestia was no longer around, she would take the cake and tea outside and enjoy it under the shade of a tree, skipping her afternoon classes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A hug? That was a bit surprising. Celestia figured she'd just pat the girls head before leaving as intended.

Hibiscus Oswald

As Hibiscus made her way out of the classroom, she looked around for any sign of Essence, and spotted her, turning the corner. Hibiscus quickly ran after her, taking care not to break the oh-so-delicate crystals in her pocket, trying to signal Essence without talking too loud and disturbing anyone else, if they were still here, "M-M-Miss Essence! I-I have a few m-more questions!...." Hibiscus said jogging up next to Essence, "I-I'm sorry, I wanted to ask you a few more things, i-if that's ok…"

A rustling in Hibiscus pocket made her shudder, wondering if she suddenly broke the crystal Essence gave her, but instead Lyka poked her head out, "Eh?... I thought we were done with this student council bullshit. Just go home already and maybe we can have some food. Maybe if we ask nicely, Almeida will give us more boo-" "L-L-LYKA! P-PLEASE! Y-You're embarrassing me again… S-Sorry, M-Miss Essence."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Essence Parker

With her mind occupied by the next task of the day, figuring out what she'd do until dinner, and more importantly, coming up with what she'd have for said dinner, Essence suddenly noticed she'd been followed. "Sure, go ahead." Truth be told, Essence wasn't the most eager to start a Q&A, but she was polite enough not to let it show too much.

Kerr Underground

Kerr had slowly walked on, leaving Essence and company behind, until he heard the fairy from before start something that sounded like it'd be interesting. He immediately turned around to address it. "Oi, wait, let the Fairy finish. You got someone providing you what I think they're providing you with?" Kerr slowly walked back to Hibby. "If so, I'm in."

After a deep sigh, Essence spoke up. "No apologies necessary. As you can see, I'm in a similar position." She then turned to Kerr. "I think Stanley should have you go through the routine again."

"Oh, come on, I'm just having a little fun here. No need to get the mutt involved."

Stanley Barker

Stanley growled at the comment. "Don't make me try to find out if biting you hard enough will wipe the taste of that kids blood out of my mouth."

Ruya Proudfeather

Ruya looked at the two with a tired expression. "Essence, dear, I'll be off to spread my wings for a bit. You won't mind, right?"

Essence shook her head. "Have a nice flight." With that, Ruya was off and Essence turned her attention back to Hibby. "Sorry about all that, what did you want to ask?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus nervously shifted from side to side, trying to get her words out. Finally she managed to think of what to say, "M-Miss Essence. W-We all told you about our powers. D-Don't you have any too? W-Were they the reason you started b-being a detective in the f-first place?..." Hibiscus didn't want to seem rude to Essence, but, "Y-You know a bit about us. I w-wanted to know a b-bit about you t-too…"

Lyka poked her head out from Hibiscus's pocket trying to watch the conversation with boredom. She'd really love to be drinking booze right now. She made it extremely obvious that she was extremely bored with the conversation already, complete with hanging motions and gun shooting her head. She also mimicked stabbing herself, but then quickly glanced at Hibiscus before sinking back into her pocket, realizing that was probably in poor taste due to what Hibiscus did on a regular basis. Of course, Hibiscus did not see a speck of Lyka, as she was too focused on conversing with Essence.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A question about her magic? Essence hadn't expected that from Hibiscus. She didn't seem to be someone obsessed with other's abilities like some of the other kids, so it'd seem like Essence's introductions of her and her spirits at the start of her lessons would've sufficed. Had she been wrong in that assessment? In either case, there wasn't all that much harm in telling a bit about herself. "No, I was a detective before being a mage. However, I did learn some skills that were helpful for investigations after becoming a mage."

"I've also had some training with these, picking up a trick or two." She showed Hibby the combat knife and pistol that she'd been carrying. "Other than that, I've got the magic from bonding my the three spirits. Some of that helps with investigations, some of it helps in combat." Normally, Essence would never reveal her hand, but those putting in the effort would find it out anyhow, as keeping magic abilities hidden was nearly impossible. To that extend, Essence only knew a single person that seemed to be doing a great job at keeping everything about them hidden, even from a detective like her. Well, that was an entirely different story.
Still, just telling Hibby about all she had learned seemed too anti-climatic, for some reason. As if she'd just blurt out most of her previously hidden character sheet. Luckily enough, Essence had a fun idea. "How about we go outside to catch some fresh air? In the meantime, we can play a little game I've learned when I was young. It's fairly simple. Based on what you previously learned about me and my spirits, you make a guess as to what the magic might be like. I'll tell you how correct you are by saying 'freezing' if you're far off, 'cold' if your a bit off, 'warm' if you're close to it and 'hot' if you almost guessed it correctly."

Assuming Hibby would follow her outside, Essence gave a final clue upon stepping outdoors. "I've got one ability to use for each weapon, and two abilities for each spirit, out of those sets of two, one is based on investigations and one on a more general supporting role."

Meanwhile, Kerr watched as the fairy put up a show, but he wasn't impressed. There was a fine line between being rebellious and being childish, and the fairy was crossing into the wrong side of it. Maybe he should give her a good example of how a real troublemaker did it? Then again, he'd rather not go through the 'routine' again with Stanley. Tough choices. Suddenly, a neat idea popped up. "Oi, Essence, I'm gonna meet up with some old drinking buddies of mine. You no longer need me, right?"

"No, just don't cause any trouble."

"I wouldn't dare to." Kerr turned to the Fairy. "Oi, Fairy, wanna come with?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus looked down, terrified at the prospect of having to guess someone's powers, but it would be a good learning moment right? If Hibiscus ever had to know someone's power at a glance, this might even help her out. Hibiscus nodded, and followed Essence outside, trying to think about what her power would be.

Lyka popped out of Hibiscus's pocket at the mention of drinking, "Ah hell yea! I'm down for that. See ya Hibby, good luck trying to guess that shit." She said, flying over to Kerr, and sitting on his shoulder if he let her. If not, then she flew near him, "Where's this bar at, big guy?" While Hibiscus's face grew slightly pale. She didn't know whether or not Lyka would be safe with Kerr, but didn't say anything about it.

Instead, Hibiscus tried to think about Essence's game, "W-Well…" She started, but couldn't really think of it much, "I-Im not so good at guessing, b-but I'll try…"

Hibiscus knew a bit about Ruya, from how their talk went, and Hibiscus overheard stuff from between Kerr and Lyka, but knew nothing about Stanley. So to start, Hibiscus asked Stanley, "Uhhh, S-Stanley, right?... Uhh. H-How did you meet Essence, and why did you become her spirit?..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seemed like Hibiscus was up for the game, which was fun. However, instead of making a guess, she asked a question. The question made Stanley look at Essence, whom shook her head. She answered instead of Stanley. "Let's just say we've known each-other for a very long time." It was clear this question had an answer that was a bit more loaded than the stories of Essence's other two spirits, and that neither Essence nor Stanley would easily share it. At a lighter tone, Essence added; "Don't worry, you should still be able to figure out the magic."

Meanwhile, Kerr gave an earthy, rumbling laugh as the Fairy went along. If she wanted to ride along (and if she was small enough, considering Kerr isn't all that big himself at about a feet or 2 or 60 cm at most), so be it, he didn't mind that much. However... his speed was slow. Very slow. As a result, it'd take them a fair bit of time to reach their destination: a shady looking bar in a dark alley in the middle of what otherwise looked like an alley shooting off from a normal street in a residential area near the Academy itself. From the size of it, it seemed like it was regularly visited by spirits of a smaller stature than humans, such as Kerr himself. In fact, the average human would be a fair bit too big for most of the interior. "This little place here is quite precious. It's become a hangout for a lot of us Academy-bound spirits. Oh, also, we're technically legal, but eh... you might still wanna keep your mouth shut about it. Just to be safe, you got me?"

As he entered, the heads of various spirits turned towards the door. About a dozen in total, with the only common trait being that they were all fairly small, with Kerr being among the tallest ones. Most of them were Fairy or Animal spirits. "'Sup you fuckers!" Was Kerr's greeting upon entering. "The usual for me, and one for the lass here." The usual turned out to be some sort of pretty strong home-brew that'd make anyone question its legality.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus pouted, thinking that if she knew Stanley's backstory, then she might have had an easier time guessing, but it seemed like that was a no-go. Hibiscus then tried thinking back to when Essence first introduced herself, as it was probably easier to figure out the spirit's powers before Essence's.

Her three spirits had said what they could do, "Stanley can smell, Ruya has flight and sight, and Kerr can dig… and stuff..." Hibiscus said, thinking to herself as she thought about it. It seemed like that really was a big hint, "Hmm. I'm guessing that Ruya is able to scout and share her vision with you. Stanley can follow the scent of a trail, but I don't know how he can apply his power that way. Kerr can dig, so his affinity must be earth, and something to do with that." Hibiscus had heard about how some creatures use echolocation to detect objects under the ground, "Can Kerr… Use echolocation underground?..." She asked out loud, "One for investigations, and one for support…"

Hibiscus then scratched her head with both hands and then looked back at Essence, "Uhhh… I-It's hard to guess, b-but how close am I with t-those?"

Meanwhile, Lyka was at the bar with Kerr. It took a while to get to the bar itself, and neither said anything on the way there. The conversation would be better with some of the hard stuff, probably. At least Lyka had something to sit on, seeing as she was only a quarter of a foot high herself (about 7-8 cm). Lyke nodded in response to Kerr's suggestion, "Got it, I don't want to ruin this for myself either you know."

Lyka herself got herself into the mood after Kerr greeted himself, "Hell yea, now this is my kinda place!" She exclaimed. Normally she was stopped by Hibby from doing that sorta stuff, but it seemed like here spirits could let loose. Maybe she should visit this place by herself and get some alone time. Actually, now that Lyka thought about it, this was one of the only times where she had been separated from Hibby. Hopefully she was doing ok with the stuck-up student council member.

After Kerr ordered, and Lyka took a look at it, inhaling the aroma. She then coughed into her hand, "Wow, that's strong!" She said, then started to drink it, albeit with a straw as it was slightly too large for Lyka to grab. It definitely was strong, and Lyka blew out some breath after drinking, "Hooo, that hits the spot! I don't get to drink the hard stuff that often, but when I do, it's always good!" Lyka said, sitting on wherever she was supposed to and turning towards Kerr, "How long have you been to this place anyways, was it before or after you started working with you 'partner'" Hibiscus said, throwing airquotes around "partner".

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Hibiscus' guesses started, Essence replied. "Hot for Ruya, warm for Stanley, hot for Kerr." She nodded. "That's a strong start for the guesses towards the investigative abilities. I'll give you some hints. If Ruya herself would scout, we wouldn't be in contact, so the bonded magic wouldn't work. The same goes for how Stanley would share what he learns about scents. Echolocation is mostly used in empty spaces or underwater, but there are similar ways to go through the earth."

Kerr took place at the bar as he downed the drink in one go. "Before, the guy who created this place was a friend of mine. Shame he got caught selling drugs, especially since this business would've kept him going, meaning there was no need for it to happen." Kerr waved over at the guy behind the bar. "Another." It seemed like the barkeeper was already expecting him to go for another, as Kerr was presented with the next drink in a matter of seconds. "Eh, no need to dwell on the past. How about you tell me a story or something? Seems like you've got a weak enough partner to pull some fun pranks on without the risk of getting shot."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus thought harder about the powers. Ruya said she shared her power so, "R-Ruya gives you her flight and sight?..." And about moles… What did moles use to traverse underground. Usually they were blind, but Kerr was not, but maybe his power still worked the same way, "D-Does Kerr feel vibrations in the ground?..." Hibiscus didn't know the term for it, so she just guessed what he did. As for Stanely… She was apparently warm for him, but couldn't nail down exactly what he could do in that case. Hibiscus sighed, "T-The only thing I can think of for Stanley is h-him sharing his scent abilities… T-To be honest, I'm not t-that good at guessing. I-I just wanted to learn a bit more about you s-since you didn't share that e-earlier, b-b-but!-" Hibiscus said looking at Essence in a panic, "I-I still want to try and g-guess it! C-Can I have another hint?"

"Drugs huh? Sucks." Lyka said, taking more sips of her hard stuff. Lyka leaned on her hand, groaning, "You mean on other people or Hibby herself? I tried pranking Hibby, a lot, but she's way too innocent. Falls for everything, it just gets boring you know? So I stopped trying to prank her. I tried pranking her parents' servant one time, but he's waaaaaayy too smart for that shit. As for trying to prank police or something, if I was my own spirit I'd try it, but I don't wanna get Hibby involved. I kinda owe her a bit for bonding with me, cause I literally had no life before her. Apparently I was just a core in her garden sleeping for the longest time and only woke up because she found me. Maybe someday when Hibby dies and I'm unbonded I'll decide to do some of the more hardcore stuff. For now I can only flip off the student council and embarrass her. Ha. Speaking of which, how's it working with people so strict you can't do anything?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hmmm, you're hot for Ruya." Essence thought for a moment, then continued. "I guess I'll count it as good enough. I'm able to use a projection of her to scout an area, so in a way she gives me her flight and sight." There was one more thing Ruya did, but that'd be up to Hibby to guess.

"Warm for Kerr. It's not about feeling vibrations, but about sending them. Have you ever heard of a radar? It's the same as that, yet for scanning the ground." Ah. Essence realized she just gave it away again. "Oh, the second ability with him is quite the thing as well."

Finally, for Stanley's. "Correct!" It was a simple sharing of scent ability, but useful regardless. "Here's a clue for the second one, which is a bit embarrassing to use as a human, as it is normally just for canines."

Meanwhile, Lyka explained her tragic prankster history. "Yeah, I getcha there. It's no fun when it's too easy. I guess it's also kind-off the same for me with Essence. She probably would've had an easier life if she just shot me then and there, but she didn't, saved my ass with it, as others probably would've finished that if she hadn't bonded me. Besides, there are some fun things as well, meeting folks like you and whatnot..."

Kerr waved over for the bartender, and a third drink was headed his way in no-time. He'd normally order one more for the Fairy as well, but with her size, she'd probably still be barely halfway the first one. "Oh, and working with someone like Essence really makes you appreciate a place like this a fuckload more."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus had gotten enough hints by now probably. If she couldn't answer, she'd probably just disappoint Essence. Fortunately, Essence gave away his first ability, "Sending out vibrations… Huhhhh...." As for the thing dogs did that humans found embarrassing, but was normal for dogs, "Uhhhh… D-Does it have something to do with licking things?..." Hibiscus said, her face turning red, as it was quite embarrassing to think of licking someone else's face. Actually, dogs also licked their wounds, was it something like that too? "A-And for Ruya… I-I've heard of wind being used to speed others up. Is that it? O-Or is her second ability like the first?..."

As for Kerr's second ability, Hibiscus had honestly no clue. She said his second ability was… Quite the thing as well? Hibiscus didn't understand it, but maybe it meant his second ability was something like that. Hibiscus tried to think, but unfortunately could not think of anything, "I-I can't think of anything for Kerr. I-Is it mole-related at least?"

Lyka nodded in response to Kerr, feeling a slight buzz coming on, "Yeaa. Do you at leaast get along with herr? I know you said fuck the estabblishment, but a partnerr is a partner, right?"

Hoo boy, this drink really was a doozy already, "I gottaa come to this placce by myself sometiime. This drink is prettyy damn strong."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon Hibiscus' mention of licking things, Essence broke out in laugher. "Okay, it's not that embarrassing, luckily enough." The thought alone made the actual ability seem a lot less embarrassing. However, from what Hibiscus mentioned, it was clear she didn't have much of a direction to go by for guessing the other abilities. "I'm afraid you're cold on all fronts, freezing even."

It didn't seem like Hibby would get much closer to getting the remainder of things, which, truth be told, might not be that unexpected. "Well, don't worry about it for now, you've guessed three abilities, which is pretty good. Enough about me though, what about you? You said you used blood magic to heal people. That's not the most common combination. Did you specifically said out to train such an ability or did you roll into it?"

Kerr raised an eyebrow. Just how much of a lightweight was this Fairy? Sure, they were small, and the stuff they were drinking was pretty strong, but surely she was the type of gal to hold some liquor right..? Well, it sounded like he was wrong. At least she's be small enough to drag back. "I mean, I guess. She's okay for letting me go to places like this without much complaints and whatnot." As he downed his fourth drink, he started to feel the effects himself as well. "Yeahs, 's the good stuffs." He should probably stop there if he wanted to make it back to the Academy... A recollection of Stanley dragging him back came to mind, which was embarrassing enough for him to say 'no' to a fifth drink. "We ssshould probably head back..."

As Kerr places some money on the bar, he turned to the others at the bar. "I'll be back for... for.. the ehh... poker!" With that, he'd said his goodbye's and was ready to head out, likely dragging Lyka along with him. If the way towards the bar had been slow... the way back was even slower.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus sighed in relief and embarrassment. Apparently Stanely's other ability had not been licking, and was farther from the truth than anything else. It was very relieving to know that Essence didn't go around licking other people's sweat to tell if they were lying or not. Although she did wonder how exactly the other powers went, she couldn't guess any further due to lack of knowledge and smarts. Instead, Essence asked about her own abilities.

Hibiscus poked her fingers together, still slightly red from embarrassment, "I-It's a bit embarrassing." As if she wasn't already embarrassed enough, "W-Well, my father and mother were both m-mages, heh. My father didn't want me to b-be a mage, so he kept me home all the t-time. I wouldn't have become a m-mage i-if-"

Hibiscus cut off, feeling more embarrassed, "W-Well, I was p-playing in the garden one d-day and. Sorta. F-Fell… Onto a r-rosebush... " Hibiscus was very embarrassed, smiling from embarrassment and looking away and even speaking quieter, "Lyka's core was in the ground, and my blood spilled onto it."

Lyka on the other hand, was going for a ride on Kerr's shoulder once again, "T-Thanks for the driinks. Next tiime I'll payyy." Lyka might have been able to hold her liquor, if she had actually drank more often. Usually the only times she drank were when other people let her…. Actually the only time she drank was with Almeida. This time the drink was way too strong and she was pretty dang small.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Essence raised an eyebrow at that explanation. "You bonded by spilling blood onto her core? That's the first time I heard of such a thing happening." It was technically not impossible, but a bond required some form of consent from both sides. Even Kerr had probably wanted it to some degree when she bonded him, other than merely to avoid the risk of being shot, so the idea that Hibiscus bonded with a spirit that didn't even know it was being bonded was odd at best. The obvious counterpoint was that the blood might have somehow gotten her back into her real form, after which the spirit bonded with Hibiscus, something they could have both unconsciously wanted to do. Considering it sounded like Hibiscus was sheltered, she probably yearned for adventure, and considering Lyka could have been stuck as a spirit core for a long period, attaching herself to the first thing she saw like a chick hatching from an egg wasn't far-fetched either. "I think I've got it." That said, Hibiscus answer hadn't answered Essence's question. "Anyhow, it still sounds pretty odd that you'd use blood to heal others, so I wonder how that kind of magic will develop in the future." She knew another example of healing through blood, but it was quite a bit different than this one... "Kind-of like a reverse vampire." Essence had uttered it before realizing. Somewhere else, Kerr and Lyka were still on their long and slow way back towards the Academy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus didn't know how best to explain why or how her blood spilling onto a core woke Lyka up and bonded them, it just happened, "Y-Yea… I don't know how it happened, or why it's blood magic. Lyka doesn't know e-either. I haven't learned anything about my power since I got it, and the only abilities I have are the ones I s-started with...." Hibiscus didn't know what Essence meant by that it was odd of using blood to heal others. It was the only way she knew how, "Y-Yea… I've been training, b-but nothing's happening. So I guess I-I'm more rolling into it. I-I've been trying to see if I can a-attack with the magic, but so far, all I do is hurt myself trying…"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It sounded like Hibiscus was having quite the struggle dealing with her own magic, but that wasn't too surprising. "It's not uncommon for new Mages to have some trouble figuring out how to use their magic, so just keep trying at a slow but steady pace. The only thing that sounded strange to me was the way you utilize blood, but since it's magic we're talking about, even that should have it's own rules about it."

Well, there was no point in thinking too much about it. Out of all the mysteries yet to solve, this one didn't quite capture her interest all that much. "Well, I should be off soon. I promised I'd try making dinner for some friends..." It reminded her of that she still didn't know what she wanted to do for said dinner. "You don't happen to know any great recipes by chance?"

Whether or not Hibiscus was able to give something (in the latter case she'd thank her for the suggestion), Essence would end up heading off with a "Goodbye." At one point or another, Kerr would also finally return from the 'long' way back to the Academy with Lyka and head on his own merry ways.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hibiscus nodded, hopefully she'd be able to apply herself and learn something new soon. When Essence said she'd be off, Hibiscus smiled and waved, "T-Take care. Thank you so much for talking with me!" And when Essence asked for recipes, Hibiscus giggled, "I-I only know one, it was one that Almeida taught me, but I can tell you too!" And so, Hibiscus quickly told her of the delicious recipe for beef stew, although it couldn't be very super detailed because she thought time was of the Essence, "A-And that's pretty much it, I may have skipped a few things, but that's about it! A-Anyways, I'd love to talk to you again sometime!" And if Essence already didn't have Hibiscus's number, she would give it to her.

After Essence left, Hibiscus sighed, then wondered when Lyka would get back. Probably the best thing to do would be to head to her dorm for the night, and Lyka would get there eventually.

And eventually she did! Lyka had said goodbye to Kerr and slowly flew her way back to their dorm. When she got back she celebrated, "Hibbyyyyyyy! Wassuuuuuuuup-" Before collapsing onto the bed she had been hovering over. Hibiscus was worried for a second, but seeing as how she was snoozing peacefully as ever, Hibiscus moved her to Lyka's bed, then settled down for the night, feeling pretty lonely for once.

Ryan Gamaris

Rainer Gottwaldt

2sfeC5R.png

Mentally exhausted from his attempt at being as… energetic as Londo, Ryan decided to grab something to eat, gather his bearings by distracting himself with food. He entered the cafeteria and asked for fried rice with shrimp. Once he got his meal, he looked around. He noticed the newest addition to the class, Rainer, eating by himself. Feeling bad for how poorly Hibiscus' spirit treated him, he decided to show him not everyone in class is mean. Approaching the table he was at, Ryan asked "H-Hey there… Can I s-sit with you?" while mentally yelling at himself for not being able to talk properly to even a younger kid.

---

This was, without a doubt in Rainers' mind, the best food in the world. No questions asked. He doubted that even King Gilgamesh was eating food as fine as Rainer was currently. Or at least, getting as much enjoyment out of it. It was almost like Atziri had decided to bless him over and over again in the recent days. First granting him a spirit, then magic, then recognizing him as her very own pupil and now even some delicious food.

As he was eating, someone he'd seen before made an appearance. It was… uh… Someone. He couldn't quite recall the name, but he remembered the face. He was in the classroom before. He asked if he could take a seat. Rainer was overjoyed! Smiling even "brighter" than usual at this joyous occasion of someone from his class talking to him! "Sure! This was without a doubt another gift from Atziri! What a generous goddess!

As he continued eating, he introduced himself. "I'mf Rainwer Goftwalft. What's your name?"

---

Ryan couldn't help but giggle when Rainer smiled at him. On one hand, he had something a bit unsettling about his expression, but on the other, he was a young kid that seemed to be enjoying his meal greatly, like he had never eaten before. The strangeness of his eyes and the great happy expression canceled each other, with a light advantage on the happiness. Ryan sat down across him, once Rainer agreed to eat with him. Ryan took a first bite, and the cafeteria delivered as usual. Rainer introduced himself again, with some food in his mouth. "I-I'm Ryan. Ryan Gamaris… S-Sorry for not introducing myself back in… in class" he stated after swallowing his food.

---

Rainer continued munching on his food as Ryan introduced himself. This was certainly great, they had something in common. Their names started with the same letter. That was something. "Arhe you scrwade o- cough cough agh cough" Rainer started to choke a bit on his food, but after some coughing, he seemed more or less fine. "Are you scared of me? You keep stuttering…" Rainer said, letting the corners of his lips drop. Now he was simply staring at Ryan with dead eyes, without even smiling. Rainer was concerned about his classmate. It just wouldn't do, if his own classmates were scared of him. His mission right now was to make a friendand a loyal follower of Atziri at some point, so he had to try to clear up any misconceptions that may be present about him.

---

Rainer tried to talk while eating again, but he started to choke mid sentence. Ryan's eyes widened "Whoa, hey!" he was about to go around the table and doing the Heinlich on him. But Rainer recovered on his own quickly.
Then, the kid called him out on his stuttering. It was also quite noticeable now that his smile was gone, he had a scary expression. Ryan was a bit taken aback by that, but it's not like the Rainer chose to be creepy… He probably wasn't very social, and ended up with a weird resting face… Regardless, he was asked a question, and it was time to answer. Ryan took a couple of deep breaths and said "Not really… I just get very nervous when I talk to new people". Just a pause and no stuttering with a basically unknown person? Not bad, but then again, he just came back from attempting a public speech…

---

Rainer was staring intensely as Ryan was speaking. Eyes dead set on him. Full focus. "Oh, so you're just nervous!" Rainer said as he started smiling "brightly" again. Ah, what joy. "Ah, I'm glad. Nearly everyone I've made eye contact with today thought I was creepy, I'm pretty sure, glad you aren't! Ahahah!" Rainer was so overjoyed, that he even gave a small laugh at the end. "I've always used a deity for the sake of encrougent.. Encourage. Bravery! So I don't get nervous easily." After saying that, he continued to eat his fill, stuffing himself like a hamster.

---

Ryan couldn't help but start feeling uncomfortable as he spoke. Rainer's stare was surprisingly intimidating for a child's, but Ryan soldiered on. A smile reappeared on Rainer's face upon hearing Ryan. His response made Ryan feel bad for him, while also having a thought "He doesn't even know, does he?" a rather obvious one, in retrospective, but it was still good to know. Then, there was the mention of a deity "I hope it's a good one… but all things considered, it's not farfetched to think he worships a..." Nope, Ryan was not going to open that can of worms… For now. Instead, he decided to attempt to make this kid understand that people were mostly right about him, as far as Ryan saw. But beating him over the head with 'You're extremely creepy' wasn't his style. Instead, he opted to start with some warming up questions. Taking a couple of deep breaths to prepare once again "Hey, Rainer. Tell me a little bit about your life before coming here, will you?"

---

Rainer was just about finished with his food at long last. He felt like he was gonna pop! Quite literally actually… He'd not once in his life eaten that much food, his stomach might really burst from overfilling it so much. But if it meant eating more delicious food, it was a worthwhile risk. In the worst case scenario, he can just kill himself and be reborn! Ryan seemed to be thinking quite a fair bit, before finally speaking again, after taking some deep breaths. Rainer's life, eh? "Hmmm…" This was a tough one. "My life wasn't anything interesting. I just went to Church and played with animals all day! Oh and watered my plant. My parents were…" He wanted to describe them, but couldn't find the words… He was thinking hard about what words that could describe them. Then he remembered! That guy who came to our house to sell stuff! He usually described them in various terms, when he was leaving! "Relijos Nutjobs! I'm a devout believer myself, but I pray to just one Goddess, but they? They prayed to every God they could get their hands on! Even to King Gilgamesh! I remember I once skipped out on an after-lunch praying to play with one of the neighbourhood cats! They ended up not letting me eat for 3 whole days! Rainer stated with a smile on his face. "What about you? Have you been here long?"

---

Without realizing, Ryan had gone over his plate too. Granted, he was too focused on Rainer to actually put his mind to think what else was he doing. Ryan frowned when Rainer started telling his story. Red flags on top of red flags, slowly changing his frown into a concerned expression. He had more questions for Rainer, but it's only fair to answer his question too… This was no interrogation. Once again, he braced himself for talking. Though this time, there was no deep breathing, just a brief silence "I... lived in the outskirts of town with my parents. I learned from them many things. Other than that, I explored the forest near my house to entertain myself… I'd say it made me happy… Even though now I'm a mess when talking to new people because of it." Ryan paused, to take a breath and to give Rainer a chance to ask him something. "Most of our class only has about a week here, so you are not that behind..." Once again, he paused, but to think how to approach Rainer from with his next question. He opted to ask for one of the apparently most normal things Rainer did, without taking the smell of decomposition or his demeanor into consideration "Rainer… how exactly did you play with animals?"

---

Ryan's life sounded… Fun! Waaay more fun than Rainers! I mean, sure Rainer played with his animals, but he had a fairly limited amount of time to play. Since most of the day went into praying. Ryan, despite his nervousness, continued the conversation and asked a pretty damn silly question. "Well, like everyone else, obviously! I petted them, played catch, g-g-g-groomed them!" Rainer encountered a bit of a problem getting a certain word to come out of his mouth in proper, but he succeeded, which is a noteworthy achievement in itself! "What? Do you play with animals differently?" Rainer wondered if there were other ways to play with animals too… He's obviously tried some more interesting and fun ways of playing with them, but they usually didn't become relaxed with his non-standard, but agitated instead, so Rainer was open to opinions.

---

Ryan sighed upon hearing his answer. As much as he wanted to believe in Rainer, the rest of his story made Ryan believe that his ideas of doing such standard things had a dark twist in his head, to his oblivious mind. "What about friends, have you played with other kids?" he asked. Leaving the impending question of how far does he go when it comes to treating animals for later.

---

Rainer was surprised by the next question Ryan asked. Perhaps that was an understatement… His eyes were like a river. He still kept his usual, however, his eyes were overfilled with tears. "I've never had friends, ahaha! The other kids always stayed away from me, because they thought I was creepy. Our family was also poor and we lived in a snobby environment." Rainer wiped the tears off his face, while continuing on his story. "I've not once played with other kids." His eyes weren't making rivers anymore, but they were still quite watery. "Ah, now I feel better~"

---

Ryan was truly hurt when he saw Rainer cry, even if for the poor kid seemed to be the norm. And it only got worse when he started talking. Rainer was just the result of many people neglecting him, Ryan could actually picture himself being like Rainer, if he didn't have such great parents. He of course didn't rub that in the kid's face. Instead, he asked "Would you like to be my friend?" as his face turned into a warm smile.

---

Rainer was overjoyed at Ryan's 200th question. Friend!? He would finally get a friend!? Oh, thank the Goddess, she was way too kind on this day! He understood for a fact that for the rest of his meager life, he'd fully devote himself to her, no matter what! "Yes! Of course~! Finally, my first friend! We'll be able to go pray together, play with animals, eat food~!" Rainer was clearly happy, and his smile was beautiful! "Ohhh! Do you know how to use magic!?" Rainer suddenly asked Ryan, in a rather loud voice.

---

Ryan was glad his question hit the spot, getting Rainer all happy, despite his bizarre mood swings. Helping this kid be more normal will certainly be a heavy task. Almeida probably had her hands full with the girls of the class though, and he sure as hell didn't trust Yuki, or the academy for that matter… But it would be very bad, and even dangerous, if he was just left alone with his current mindset, from what he had gathered from talking to him at least. While thinking of this, Rainer raised a question. Which Ryan had no trouble answering "Well, we are in this academy for a reason, aren't we?" After a brief moment of thought Ryan continued with a statement "Rainer, as friends, I want the best for you… So, I'm going to be helping you adapt to live on a place like this, okay?... The world is a very different place from what you used to call life..." Ryan seemed focused, as he found trying to phrase what he just said very hard. And of course, he wasn't that much of a social butterfly. But he did interact properly with the village folk when he had to…

---

Rainer was hyped as heck now, hearing that he did indeed have magic powers! Rainer still had to figure out how to use magic, so he really wanted to see some more, like when Ahn showed off her pretty magic clothes. He wanted to ask Ryan to show him, but he suddenly said something really amazing, but something silly. "Of course this place was different! There's food here!" Rainer thought to himself, but there were more important matters, so Rainer just agreed. Maybe Ryan will show him all sorts of food places? "Yeah, alright!" He broke the flow of the conversation again and asked in, again, a rather loud manner. "So can you show me some magic!? I've only seen some of my neighbours do that!" Rainer was too hyped to stop. The moment the train of "magical stuff" popped into his head, there was no stopping it.

---

Ryan was glad that Rainer seemed open to learn, which was great. He cut Ryan off before he could start talking to him about what's the norm. Seeing him so excited though, he felt like it wouldn't hurt to show him a little magic. So Ryan said "A little something like..." before Time Skipping behind Rainer "This?" putting his hands on Rainer's shoulders. Practice surely did help work on that little trick, even if he could just move a couple of meters at a time. As for Rainer, Ryan was able to notice that dead animal smell emanating from the kid. He wasn't impacted by it, but it surely could gather very negative reactions from others, as seen in class. "Rainer. You do need to do something about your body odor, it's not getting you any friends as is..." Ryan said, hoping to not hurt him too bad… But he really had no clue how to sensibly approach Rainer without getting a bad reaction.

---

Rainer finally obtained some first-hand experience of magic in all its glory! Unfortunately, he didn't see nothing. Ryan was there and then he just appeared elsewhere. That's… amazing!! Rainer immediately turned around when he heard Ryans' voice. "Wow! That's so cool! How did you do that?" Rainer asked after the demonstration. He wondered, if he'd be able to do so as well at some point! Then came Ryans' advice to him. "The doggy from before told me that too… I shower at least once a month. Might be the clothes…" Rainer should try washing them before going to sleep for sure. Who knows if that'd help though… Hopefully it would.

---

Ryan was happy to see that his stunt pleased Rainer. Who proceeded to answer his next question, smiling "It's a matter of connecting with my bound spirit. You'll learn the exact ins and outs of it in class..." assuming Rainer was a regular mage, regarding spirit bonding, that is.
Then it was back to business. As expected, Rainer had issues in the hygiene department. Ryan sighed, before telling Rainer "That's… not quite good. It's common hygiene to shower at least once a day… not once a month" Ryan then added, for good measure "There's also things like brushing your teeth, or washing your hands regularly… As for your clothes, yes you should also wash them often..."

---

Rainer was quite happy to learn that he'd get to learn to use magic in class! Hopefully he'd also learn to read and write in proper! However, everything that Rainer heard after that was complete and utter shock… Was this place filled with high and mighty snobs? "Shower at least once per day"... His only flower died because of dehydration, yet he was suggesting something that outrageous!? Rainer's brain stopped functioning at that moment, he just stared into nothingness and tried to imagine… the meaning behind Ryan saying "So, I'm going to be helping you adapt to live on a place like this, okay?"

---

Ryan's words seemed to have triggered quite the reaction from Rainer. He went from happy, to complete shock. Borderline catatonic, actually. Ryan, concerned, asked "Rainer… Are you alright?"

---

Rainers' brain started slowly getting unfrozen from the spine chilling statement Ryan made earlier and he went back to usual trying to erase the whole thing from his mind. He'd try to up his shower rate to once a week for now, that was his newly decided goal. "Yeah! I'm alright!" He replied, his voice a bit "shaken".

---

It took Rainer a moment to actually return to 'normal'... Yet once again, he got over his shock rather fast. "You had me worried for a moment there, haha" Ryan said, pausing for a moment before saying "So, any questions come to mind?"

---

Did Rainer have any other questions? That was certainly a frightening question now. Rainer wasn't sure if his nerves could take any more culture shocks today… He had to figure out a question that would not break his brain after Ryan answers it. "What's a good way to learn magic tricks? I can't read very well, so I'm afraid I'll have a tough time learning them in class."

---

Ryan thought it was nice having Rainer calmer. He asked a rather normal question. Ryan thought of it for a moment, before he decided to share his own method "Practice!" Ryan took a moment to elaborate a little more "Just talk it out with your spirit, they are very knowledgeable on magic" Ryan then chuckled when he thought of a joke "There's also the mage tournament, if you want hands-on training, hahaha. Just kidding" almost immediately, Ryan regretted making that joke. It was now very likely Rainer would want in.

---

Mage tournament? Rainer knew about those! Well, he had heard of them anyways! Yes, this was exactly what he needed. Ryan truly was a friend! By entering something like that Rainer would be able to do everything at once! Gain popularity, in turn making friends AND potentially being able to endorse Atziri without being some suspicious creepy kid offering you a new religion, and learn magic! Yes, this was the perfect plan, Rainer's eyes were basically shining! This is what he had to do… No matter what. "I'm right on it! Thanks Ryan!" Rainer then proceeded to storm off to find where to sign up. It was time after all… FOR THE TOURNAMEEEEEENT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARC.

---

As he feared, Rainer took the joke to heart. His body was brimming with joy, while Ryan showed concern. Not that it mattered, as Rainer seemed to have made a decision as soon as Ryan told him about the tournament. Rainer's mind was set. As he almost flew out the cafeteria, Ryan's head lowered and he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Just what have I done..." he thought out loud. Ryan took a couple deep breaths and went for a walk. He still had one more thing he wanted done today, after all...

Location: Dorm room 34

It was an early morning for Rainer, after all, this was an important day! He'd go and make his SECOND friend! Truly, a joyous day. He was sad that she didn't call him yesterday, but she was probably just busy. He himself would have called, but alas… He didn't ask for her number. So he was left with no other choice than to go visit her, get her number and establish a connection with her!

He took a shower and washed his clothes yesterday and he smelled like a brand new Rainer. Now you could only smell the death and despair of the animal kingdom if you were trying to smell him, or had a very good nose. His clothes were all dry and after dressing himself, he was ready to roll out. He left his bunny in his room, since it was still wet and no matter how much he washed the poor bunny yesterday it still had its unique… smell.

Location: Walahfrid Residence

He made his way over to the house via public transport. It was a rather short trip though and he was at the gates of the house, yet again. After making his way over to the door, he knocked exactly 7 times, waiting for someone to answer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahn Walahfrid

Ahn wasn't in the mood for visitors, not after all the shit from yesterday. However, someone knocking a grand total of seven times probably had something important to say. As she flunk the door open, she was surprised to see the creepy kid from before. Not pleasantly so. "What do you want? Didn't you already finish your little game from yesterday?" She was in no mood to deal with this kid at all, so she hoped to chase him off sooner rather than later.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh boy… she wasn't in a good mood, right now, he had to fix that, fast. Rainer didn't know a lot about human interaction, but he knew the basics, such as good jokes always being appreciated. " Hi! You are hereby placed under arrest! I'm here to take you in!" Rainer said, whilst trying to make a good, friendly smile, so she'd understand that it was a joke.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If looks could kill, Rainer wouldn't be standing upright anymore. "Are you here to rub in how your little investigation ruined my career? My funds got cut in half and I'm off the promotion list for the coming years, my reputation is thrown to the pigs and you're here joking?" She clenched her fist. "Be glad you're a kid, otherwise I might have already gone too far. You'd better just leave."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was a lot to take in for Rainer, he was standing there rather confused, she was looking at him, quite "interestingly". Ah, were they bonding already? She didn't look entertained, but she did look at him like his own mother… This was friendship at the very least! Maybe even something more? "I'm not sure what you mean, exactly… nor what the word carier means, nor what a promption is, I just came here to talk… But it seems like you're in a bad mood.." He paused for a second, before continuing: So I'll cheer you up!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This kid was a joke. That much was obvious. The question was how to deal with a joke. Considering he was a mage, she could just blast him. It wouldn't be murder if he didn't die from it, after all. Then again, her reputation was already damaged enough as it was. Would getting rid of a kid risk what little she had left of it? Probably. "Really? How would you do that?" She said it in a tired, mildly sarcastic tone, although she knew sarcasm would probably go above this kid's head. Maybe if she humored him for a bit he'd just bugger off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The question struck like lightning, how would he go about cheering her up? "I have no idea!" Rainer said, his voice full of confidence. Best thing to do in a situation like this was probably to think what would cheer himself up? Playing with animals was one thing, but girls were a different type of creature, Rainer wasn't sure whether they even liked animals, after all, she'd get her outfit all dirty if she played with them. He was thinking intensely, until an idea popped into his head. "You're pretty!" Yes, compliments were the way to go. Everybody likes receiving those. However, there must be something else he could say or do… If he couldn't cheer her up, how would he even begin to convert her into becoming a follower of his Goddess?!

Suddenly an idea popped into his tiny little head: "Why not exact vengeance on those that have wronged you in your life?" Atziri once told him this. He wasn't sure what that meant, but he was really happy about hearing it for whatever reason, so this was sure to work!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that was a joke among joke. He called her pretty, which meant exactly nothing coming from a random creepy kid seeming to be intend on bugging her, and then told her to exact vengeance. Did he even know what those words meant? Considering he didn't know 'career' and 'promotion' the answer was likely negative. Besides, killing Ewald would only get her much deeper into trouble. Then again, maybe if she'd just go along for a bit the kid would bugger off. "Let's say I'd want to do that, how would I do so?" She expected him to come up with something stupid like switching sugar out with salt or something, although he was creepy enough to mention something weirder, now that she thought about it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day after day, Rainer was losing his mind here. How would one go about exacting revenge on those who have wronged her? The answer was obvious; just play with them and show them who's the king of the playground! "Just play with them! Play "catch" with them, then play where you draw the X and O until they're all tired! Then you just have to show off how better you are by taking away the really long thingies from him and the squishy thingies! He'll be so tired he won't even be able to move! Then just call him names and tell him how much weaker he is than you and maybe then yo-" Ah, he remembered.. "Ah, nevermind… Rainer said in disappointment… "Girls don't like doing things that end with them being dirty, right..?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What. The. Fuck. This kid was pretty insane, it seemed. She knew there were a lot of lost cases among the Mages, but this sounded like some high tier abuse turned into a mini-monster amplified by magic. "Uh, yeah, I'd rather not end up smelling bad." She had no clue how to respond to this degree of mental deprivation. She'd inform the Academy later, and request them to keep this kid away from her, but for now she'd need to deal with him herself. Right. What was he here for again? With some luck, it was something stupid and easily solved, so he'd be on his way again. "Never mind that, why are you here?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainer had a weird feeling, like those times when his parents talked about him in the kitchen in the middle of the night. She also confirmed his suspicion. Girls didn't like to get down and… smelly? I guess you would be smelly after a good playtime session, but even so. She then asked Rainer why he was here, which was a stupid question, it was obvious. "I came here to become friends! After all, my spirit liked the drink you gave yesterday!" He said in full confidence. "It felt like you were being bullied, so I thought we could get along! Yesterday they called you names and stuff!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ahn felt cornered. If she simply said they were friends to get rid of him, he'd probably return thinking they were friends. If she refused to be friends, he'd probably return trying to change her mind. Howe could she get rid of this kid? Should she try to convince him to be friends with someone else instead? She doubted that would work. Suddenly, she had an idea. "That's nice of you, but I'm afraid that's a bit difficult. You see, girls and boys like doing different things, so it's difficult for them to become friends."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I get the feeling that you don't want me to be here…" Was Rainers' reply, almost immediately after Ahn was done explaining why friendship is difficult. He didn't have much of a problem vocalizing his thoughts, the moment they're created after all. He then continued: "Ahn, you're wrong though, Mommy and Daddy are clearly good friends despite their differences!"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, all of a sudden, the kid realized he wasn't welcome? Ahn had to suppress saying 'yes' and 'now fuck off' to it. Wait? Why would she suppress that? She wasn't sure. "That is because they are a mommy and daddy, so we can't be like that. You can only be a daddy once you're a lot older."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainers' suspicion was dead wrong. She wanted to hang out after all! If you don't say no, then it means yes. It was just basic stuff really. Still, why couldn't he become a daddy till he's older bothered him, he had to know, so he just said one word to find out! "Why?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For fuck's sake, this was getting ridiculous. First that Academy sent out kids to investigate her as if she was some sort of joke, now they had one of those very kids roam free to bother her when she was at her lowest. Wait... Was this an opportunity to get back at the Academy? Maybe it was... "Because the Academy doesn't want young kids to become a daddy, and you're still in the Academy." She wondered if she could get the kid to bother the people at the Academy, rather than her.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainer was a bit confused to say the least. Mainly, because he couldn't understand Ahn's actions. Or well, words. "I'm just a dumb creepy kid, they'll keep a closed eye for one or two things I do wrong! You, on the other hand, had a good amount of your effort as a science lady go whoooosh, because of the Academy. Why would you care?" Truly, girls were confusing creatures… "Wouldn't you rather do bad things that would make the Academy hurt?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The self-awareness of this kid was astounding, but she liked the direction this was heading in. "I care because I don't want the remainder of my effort to also go 'woooosh' by the Academy. However, if they really close an eye for you, wouldn't you be able to do whatever bad thing to the Academy you want to do?" A plan started to form. If she'd give the Academy a fair warning about the kid, she couldn't be held responsible for anything, while she could still try to set this kid up against them and later simply claim that he'd been making it up. After all, why would she warn the Academy if she was using him? I'd be a great alibi while she could still deliver some pay-back on th Academy.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That was certainly a good question from her, but alas the answer was not nearly as good. "Why would I? Bad things are bad. I don't like being a bother to other people!" He proclaimed it as truth, as naturally as he breathed… "Besides, you just have to be sneaky, instead of coming up with terrible lies!" Rainer gave an innocent laugh just to top it all off, having a slight idea at what she was most likely trying to imply.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He didn't like being a bother? That meant she could just tell him he was being a bother, and he'd bugger off right? Well... it was probably too late for that right now. "Look, kid, if I was able to be sneaky I'd not be in the position I was in right now." She said with a bit of annoyance in her voice. It was probably time to wrap this up. Well, it had been time for that since the first word they exchanged, so it was very long overdue. "You wanted to be friends, right? Even if we could be friends, I'd be a really bad friend, because I never have time to hang out. In fact, I'd rather be working on my research right as we speak, so this is becoming a bit bothersome, as I'd rather go back to work again." If he really did not want to be a bother, hopefully that'd be enough to get him to bugger off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She made a fair point. She had no skill apparently. Neither in lying, nor in sneakiness. But that was alright. The best thing about friends is accepting them as being a failure. Ahn then started speaking nonsense. Rainer understood why, she was in a bad mood after all and he still hadn't cheered her up. "You're just saying that because you're in a bad mood! You'd be a great friend! And you shouldn't overwork yourself either. Take a breather! Drink some bitter juice and you'll be all fine and dandy facker!" He remembered her saying that word, so he simply went ahead and called her that, not that he remembered who it was directed at, nor knew what it meant.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The more she listened to this kid, the more she felt like she was slowly losing it. If she hadn't just lost everything she worked for over one stupid decision, she probably would've been smart enough not to end up in a conversation like this altogether. Right now, however, she felt like every single word she said to this kid made things worse. "No, I wouldn't be. It'd be better if you made friends in your own class. I'm sure those two people that were with you would love being your friends." At this point, she had no plan anymore whatsoever. The next best option was just telling him off, which she'd probably do if this didn't work either.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainer was about to answer Ahn, how it would make no sense for either of the two aforementioned people to become his friends, after all, one of them was brighter than the sun, whilst the other was a bit too old so side-characterish he might be the first one to die by Rainer's hands. He checked the time and saw that it was time for him to go soon.. Such a shame, he didn't even get to the main point yet… "Ah, it's already this late… I should probably ask one of the things I've wanted too then, instead of trying to make friends. Since you study magic and aren't a Relijos Nutjob, would you be able to study some things for me at some point? I'd pay you of course, or perhaps, I can acshidentally do something bad."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It seemed like Rainer was finally ready to leave, but at the last moment, he brought up something of interest. With her research funds slashed and her reputation tarnished beyond easy fixing, she had a fair bit of free time on her hands. She doubted the kid would be able to pay her anything of value out of his own pocket, but having an insider in the Academy might be useful, even if they were a creepy ten year old. Besides, he clearly showed willingness to play by some unlawful rules.

"That's not a bad offer. I'd like to know what the Academy is up to these days and might need someone to accidentally do something bad at one point or another. In turn, I'm willing to look into whatever you want me too look into." She highly doubted this kid had anything of interest for her, heck, at the worst she probably needed give him a book about the birds and the bees or about why people didn't like it if you slaughtered their pet animals. At the best it'd be something of a bit more interest, maybe something that'd show why he turned out as fucked up as he was, but that'd remain to be seen.

Luckily enough, Ahn had both a business number and a private one. Considering her business number was bound to be used rarely from now on, he could have it. "Here's my number, you can sent me a message if you learn something interesting is going on at the Academy." She feared 'of interest' was a bit vague for this kid, but she was willing to risk being sent loads of random bullshit for a chance to find some things of interest.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rainer was happy now. She agreed to his offer! Yes, this was the beginning of a great, new relationship! Top top it all off, he even obtained her number! Wait… She could have just sent him a message or something and he'd have her number… Hmm. Interesting. Well, no matter. All was done, so that was nice. "Ah, thank you~!" Rainer was more than happy with this~! He could finally move on. "Thank you for accepting my offer Ahn!" Rainer started to go towards the gate, saying nothing else, after all, he accomplished what he needed too. Ahn almost became his friend and now he had her number!

He got onto public transport in order to get back to the academy, he still had class to attend after all.

Setting: Streets of Uruk. July 28th, 199 NWC, Evening

As Ryan wandered the streets of Uruk in search of a God, he encountered sights and sounds beyond the wildest dreams of a young country boy. Strange and wonderful things showcased themselves in the windows of every shop, and the people themselves were a gallery of every walk of life. Having worked up the courage to speak with some of the various smiths and metallurgists, he finally tracked down the God in question.

NgzK8G8.png

Ryan entered the shop, finding quite a number of people standing around talking. All seemed to be connected with crafting in some way or other, as well as friends with one another. A simple bell on the door tingled as Ryan entered, announcing his arrival.

"Why hello there!" Gaibhne exclaimed energetically as he turned to face the door. As the god began to address the newcomer, the chatter from the others died down, both letting Gaibhne talk and letting them listen. "You must be the one who was looking for me. How can I help you?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today had been quite the day for Ryan, with some ups and some downs. If anything he was more relaxed than earlier as he wandered around town. As now he was doing his thing. While talking so much was very mentally taxing, Ryan felt the push of accomplishing the idea he had been developing to homage his father in battle.
Eventually, he stumbled upon a neat little shop. Like many he had seen today, it had weapons, armor, you name it. But what stood out in this particular shop were the people in it, most notably, Gaibhne himself. Who cheerfully greeted him. Ryan was surprised, he was not sure if it was his imagination, but the god seemed to emit an aura of greatness. Ryan was quick to answer the first question "Yes sir, mister, lord Gaibhne" shooting some ways to addressing the god in quick succession. As for the why "I want… want, to build a weapon… But, I don't think I'd be ever be capable to accomplish it on my own… So I thought, maybe the god of the forge could help me"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaibhne smiled gently in response to the boy's question. "I've certainly made a few weapons in my time. What sort of weapon are you looking to make?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gaibhne's modest response made Ryan smile a little, and made him feel slightly more comfortable. "Well, um… I wanted a device to control wires, to wrap people, to grab things from a distance, to use as a grappling hook… Things like that. Oh, and if I wanted to cut things with them, I'd like it to do that..." Ryan looked nervous, unsure if he had managed to explain himself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hmm. I can't say I've seen anything like that before." Gaibhne put a hand on his chin as he thought for a moment. "Tell me, what's your name, child?" Assuming Ryan gave his name, Gaibhne would continue: "Well Ryan, I cannot create this weapon alone. Instead, you will be the one who creates it. With my guidance, of course. What say you? Will you learn the ways of the Forge?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan was half surprised that Gaibhne had not seen something like what he was describing. Just half, as even his father consistently mentioned to him that wires were not a common weapon. When he asked for his name, Ryan didn't hesitate too much, it was his name, after all. "I'm Ryan, sir, Lord, mister Gaibhne" he answered, still unsure on how to address the deity. What followed put sadness for a brief instant on Ryan's face, only to be followed with great excitement, then doubt. "M-Me!?" But he had no tools or money… It was then that Gaibhne's question fully struck him. Ryan took a deep breath and focused "I'd be more than glad to learn from you!" he said. With the help of the god of the forge, he was surely going to make one hell of a weapon. His eyes shined in excitement.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Excellent!" Gaibhne said while he clapped his hands together once. "And, provided that they are willing, these folks here will also give assistance. They are all extremely talented individuals, and will be able to help you along the way even if my duties keep me from helping you personally."

"Hehehe, a weapon that even Gaiby hasn't seen? I can hardly wait! Midori Kappako's m'name. Let's have fun together, Ry!" This first speech came from the highly energetic girl in a blue dress and absolutely no shortage of storage space. Said girl darted over to Ryan's side as she spoke, reaching up and giving him a (relatively gentle) noogie.

"Leave the poor kid alone, Midori," the blonde gentleman in the apron said as he walked over and pulled Midori off of Ryan. He then extended his right arm towards Ryan, offering a firm handshake. "Sorry about her. I'm Elias Stein, and this is my daughter."

"Hello!" the girl next to Elias spoke up. Given her hair color, matching outfit, and choice to speak up then and there, she must've been said daughter. "I'm Amelia. I hope we can be friends~"

Which only left one person: "Heya," the girl with copper hair said with a wave from over by the counter. "Apollonia Di Mercurio. This is my shop. Stop by and I'll make sure you get a discount."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan was happy to get such a positive reaction from Gaibhne. He also informed Ryan that the rest of the folks in the shop could help him if they were willing to, in case Gaibhne himself couldn't. Ryan nodded in approval. Then the colorful cast of smiths greeted him.
First was the lady in the blue dress, which wasted no time in doing so, while also running over to his side… and gave him a noogie. Ryan flinched ever so slightly, while nervously giggling."Okay, miss Midori"
Then the blonde man stepped in, separating Midori from Ryan. As a way to convey he was serious, Ryan gave the man named Elias an equally firm handshake, as his parents taught him. "It's alright, m-mister Elias"
Up next, was Elias' daughter, Amelia "I ho-pe so too, Amelia" he said, nodding as a greeting. Hoping his stumble with words to go under the radar.
Finally, there was the shop owner, Apollonia, who offered him discounts if he were to purchase here. "I'll keep that in mind, miss Apollonia... Thank you."
Just to be sure they got that he appreciated the chance he ended by saying "It's a pleasure to meet you all." and bowing with his head.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Well, now that introductions are out of the way, I think I'll be on my way," Gaibhne spoke while brushing himself off and grabbing a small satchel from the ground beside him. "Ryan, I or one of these folks will get in touch with you in a couple days. Until then, take care." He would then tip an invisible hat at the people gathered and take his leave, strolling off into the summer evening. Unless Ryan tried to keep their attention, the others (sans Apollonia) would also begin to split off and go about their business. It was getting a bit late after all.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sadly, Gaibhne bid his farewell as soon as introductions finished. Gaibhne instructed him to wait for their call. Slightly disappointed that he didn't got to start on his creation right a way. Then again, he's a god, he must have his reasons. Seeing as Gaibhne left, and he had nothing else to say "I'm l-leaving too… Thanks for the warm welcome… I'm looking forward to learn from you… And mist... lor... Gaibhne" was his parting cue, while turning around. Unless stopped, he waved as he left the store.

Almeida
Ryan Gamaris

8Iisnn9.jpg

As Almeida was about to finish her morning jog, getting some exercise while processing yesterday's events and preparing her mind for those of this evening, she spotted Ryan. She realized she didn't quite know the kid, but she was polite enough to slow down to a simple walk and greet him. "Ah, good morning Ryan~"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan slowly stretched in his bed, trying to shake off the remnants of sleepiness off his body. He sat up and checked his phone. Shock crawled all over his body as he noticed he was late for class. Very late, as a matter of fact. "Why didn't you wake me up, Tidrog!?" the spirit, sitting in the other bed as usual, answered "You were really tired, even if I did, you'd probably just sleep in there regardless" Ryan sighed, knowing he was probably right. Without much else to say, Ryan decided he might as well just skip the morning class. After showering, he decided to go for a walk. As he was leaving the building, Ryan was greeted by Almeida, who usually skips the morning class. She seemed to be running, but upon making eye contact with him, she walked instead, greeting him afterwards. "Ah, er... good morning, Almeida. How are you today?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I'm good~ I was just running off some of yesterday's thoughts, so to say. What about you though? I didn't think you were the type to skip classes. Did you join the dark side?" Almeida jokingly said it, as she did some post-workout stretches, something of which a friend of hers in the army had once told her about. Muscle cramps really went down after learning some decent warm-ups and cool-downs. "Oh, and before I forget, the other first year class, 1A, invited us for dinner in the evening in the cafeteria. I was asked to tell the rest of the class, so I'll probably mention it during gym this afternoon, but I figured I'd give you the heads-up first."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I had a very long day yesterday… So I woke up too late for class, that's all..." Ryan said, laughing briefly at the 'dark side' joke. While Almeida stretched, Ryan started to try and figure out what to say next. He felt comfortable enough to talk normally to her, but he didn't know her all that well to strike a conversation… Luckily, he didn't have to for now, as Almeida told him about an invitation they received from the other first year class. "Is that so?... Do you know why?" he wondered if Almeida had more details about it. Maybe it had something to do with her absence yesterday…

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Long day, eh? Same here." Almeida shrugged. As for the other class. "Just to get to know us, I guess." It was the best bet she had on the topic. "That, or they're trying to start a class war." Almeida tried sounding her most serious, but failed to do so.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Quite" Ryan quickly said, before the obvious question came up "What about you? You disappeared the whole day..." upon realizing about his lack of manners he cleared his throat and added "Ah. Sorry, didn't mean to invade your privacy" As for the class date, Ryan nodded, it made the most sense. Conversely couldn't help but laugh when Almeida tried and failed to suggest seriously that a challenge was coming to them, seeing her fail at sounding professional was amusing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"No, it's fine. I was off with Okamoto, investigating some weird monsters in the southern areas of the kingdom." Which I haven't finished doing OOC so... "I'll leave the full story for another day, if you'll still want it by then."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hmm, interesting. Sounds better than the mission we had" Ryan answered. Adding "Sure, whenever you're ready to share it, haha" As his brief laugh finished, Ryan realized something. He was all alone with Almeida for once, "could this be my chance?" Ryan thought. Who knew if this would present itself again. He took a deep breath "Um, Almeida?", he begun looking away, "There's something I want to tell you..." Ryan's nerves started to act up on him "Do y- you..." And finally, his emotions reached their limit "DOYOUTHINKELISAHATESME!?" Ryan was red as a tomato and he looked at Almeida with concern all over his face.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, that was super awkward. Unknown to Ryan, Almeida had gained some weird love-letter-like note earlier that day, so when Ryan started off about wanting to tell her something all nervous and serious, she was legitimately starting to formulate a way to turn him down. 'Maybe I should just tell him I'm not into kids?' It was the quickest way. However, his sudden blurting of words seemed to include 'hate' and 'Elisa' instead of 'love' and 'you', so Almeida realized she had misunderstood the situation. "Woah, woah, slow down there. What makes you think she hates you?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that the hardest part was out of his system, Ryan settled down partially. A deep breath later, Ryan elaborated "...The first time I spoke to her… She told me about, something that deeply messed with her, causing her nightmares and made her afraid of using magic..." Ryan's fists clenched really hard "...I had no idea of how to help her... She was in a panic, and I had no clue on how to help her…" He emphasized "Even though I really wanted to… She just pretended like nothing happened after that… But I can't help myself from thinking it's just a facade" Ryan sighed "I've also caught a glimpse of that panic from time to time… Even though it seems like she wants to hide it..." Ryan's head lowered "... I don't know… Maybe I'm just imagining things… But I'm sure, that first time, she needed help… And I couldn't do it. I don't blame her if she hates me because of that..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida was expected something a lot less innocent than this, so she needed to take a moment to formulate a reply. "I've thought something similar when I saw her lose it during our battle against that angel. However, it's as you said, it seems like she's not willing to open up, at least not yet." A short pause. "I'm not entirely sure either, but I do think that pushing the topic would risk having her hate you, so it might be better to wait until she's ready to tell us on her own." Almeida smiled as she said the next part. "I wouldn't worry about her hating you right now though, she doesn't seem like the girl to hate someone just because she doesn't want to let them help her. Just treat her as you'd treat someone normally and I'm sure it'll be okay~"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan nodded along Almeida's response, his nerves settling down more and more. She seemed to be in a similar mindset to that of Ryan's. Almeida did recommend to give Elisa the chance to open up on her own, which was understandable. She ended up by conveying Ryan to treat her normally, and everything would be smoother. Ryan seemed to be completely calm now, but there was still some doubt on his expression "Hey, Almeida… Am I a creep for worrying so much about Elisa?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet another unexpected question left Ryan's mouth. He just kept surprising her. "No, it's natural to worry about others, especially if they're a class- or teammate..." Almeida raised an eyebrow, as something came to mind. "... and even more so if you've got a crush on them." She wondered if she had managed to hit the nail on the head. Judging by how easily Ryan turned red, she should be able to get a good estimate on how close she was just from seeing him change color.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan let out a sigh of relief when Almeida told him his concern was normal. Something class and teammates do regularly. His brain stopped functioning, as if getting a blue screen on a computer, when Almeida mentioned the word 'crush'. His face froze, staring blankly at Almeida for just an instant, before embarrassment took over his face. No longer looking at Almeida, he answered "C-C-Crush!?" his cheeks started to flush. It took him a moment, but he decided to be honest "I… I'm not sure… I never had one before… How did you…?" He nervously answered. Did he really felt that way about Elisa? Hell, how is he even supposed to feel when having a crush? Hopefully the knowledgeable Almeida could clear his doubts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Talk about a reaction. Ryan's face showed more than his words did. "Well, that reaction suggests a strong yes~" Things were getting interesting. Time to onee-san the life out of this. Maybe teasing Ryan a little would be even better? A broad smile formed on Almeida's face as she had the perfect question ready for him. "So what are the things you like about Elisa?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida seemed to have confirmed her theory… Based on Ryan's face "Am I that obvious?..." was all he thought as Almeida gave him a yes. She managed to figure out how he felt before even he could confirm it. Almeida smiled at him, before asking quite the question. With his eyes still set on the ground, and a blush still on his face "... I… don't know..." he said rapidly, After a brief moment, though. Ryan managed to think about a couple of things "... Well, there's her bravery. Despite whatever is messing with her, she stands her ground against it. Her positivity, taking the most she can, out of every situation, again, despite her issues… Then, there's her laugh. Every time she laughs, or even smiles, it makes me feel a strange sensation. My chest feels fuzzy, and warm..." He suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. "WHATAMIEVENSAYING?" Ryan came to realize he was saying very strange things. He buried his embarrassed face into his hands.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida smiled and nodded along, as if making a doctors analyses. Ryan clearly had quite some butterflies. "What you're saying are your feelings for Elisa~" Almeida said, confirming the source of these symptoms. "There's nothing to be ashamed off! It's perfectly natural to fall in love at your age~" Almeida paused for a bit. "You should be careful though, as being in the really odd situation she's in, Elisa might not be able to process someone confessing to her well." It was quite the troublesome situation. Normally she'd encourage young love, but in this case... "What you can do, is try to help her fit in and break free from her issues. It'll let you do a good deed, and maybe it'll help you'll find out if your feelings are mutual~"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida's answer had Ryan somewhat confused. "How were those strange sensations..." Well, Almeida was the smart adult here, so it didn't sound proper to doubt her conclusion, even if he couldn't quite understand it. Almeida then cheered him on, saying it was something normal at his age… But he needed to be careful, as Elisa was not in the best conditions to receive a confession. Ryan nodded from behind his hands. "I don't feel ready for that anyway…" He had no clue of how to even do that in the first place. As for Almeida's next suggestion "That… I would really like to do that… But I'm an idiot, and will probably screw up… Like when we first met"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida was about to give a stern 'don't doubt me' look when Ryan seemed to second-guess her analysis of his feelings towards Elisa, but it seemed like it wasn't needed. Her first instinct was to tell him to just do the opposite of anything Londo would do, as that was the easiest way to help him avoid doing stupid stuff, but that'd be a bit mean and confusing. After all, what if Londo accidentally made a sensible choice regarding these subjects? No, she'd need to give some better advice if she wanted to help Ryan out. "It's a difficult topic, but being afraid to screw up and not acting at all is a worse option than screwing up by avoiding her altogether. If you can show that you're reliable and that you care, screwing up a bit once or twice won't matter all that much if you trust each-other to be honest about pointing out flaws and to correct your mistakes. Besides, we're all idiots. It's not about avoiding screw-ups, it's about learning from them and doing better next time. I'm sure Elisa knows that as well."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan slowly uncovered his face, and looked at Almeida. Ryan was amazed at the point Almeida brought, even if it should have been the most logical approach, his hazy mind wouldn't have been able to think of it. Ryan smiled warmly at her when she finished. "I can't doubt what you just said… except the part of everyone being an idiot… if anything you're brilliant… Thank you." While thinking "Huh… I thought saying that would make me feel embarrassed… Well, I just admitted to her heavier stuff" which now he had vented out somewhat, wouldn't be that crazy. He turned his head to the sky, and let out a big sigh of relief.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Almeida laughed at being told she was brilliant. All things considered, she was far from it. A mage at her age, albeit not being able to use a single magical spell, stuck in a class with mostly minors, having failed to reach her dreams multiple times over... Yeah, there was little brilliance there. Still, there was no need to let her own failures bring the mood down. "I doubt I'm worthy of it, but I'll gladly take that compliment~" Well, it seemed like Almeida had onee-sanned done enough for now, as Ryan's confusion was cleared up. "Well, I'm gonna hop under the shower for now. You'll know where to find me when you have questions again~" Unless Ryan stopped her, Almeida would head into the dormitory and be off on her merry ways.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan stared at the clear blue sky above, feeling as if his body had lightened up after this brief exchange. Odd, but welcomed. Almeida wanted to shower after her morning workout, and Ryan wasn't going to drag on the conversation. She had made his day a lot better already. He looked at her and nodded enthusiastically, still smiling. As a goodbye, Ryan said "Sure. Thanks a lot!" while briefly waving at her. Once she left, Ryan sat there a few more minutes admiring the sky "Being better, huh…" while pondering on the last part of Almeida's advice. Eventually, he jumped to his feet and went for a walk around the campus, an activity he was starting to enjoy.

Upon arriving at the Cafeteria, one would be greeted with the usual hubbub of various Mages and Academy personnel enjoying their evening meal. A moment's inspection would lead one to spot a number of tables that had been pushed together, around which were gathered a number of Mages. Unless some other group was having a party in the cafeteria at that time, it could reasonably be assumed to be the members of Class 1A that had invited Class 1B out to chat.

There were quite a number of open chairs, providing more than ample room for anyone who wished to join the party. On one of the tables, there was a pile of stickers that were your standard "Hello, my name is " stickers, as well as a couple markers with which to write one's name. Each of the students pictured above was already wearing one (labeled with the name provided above their image in the spoiler up above). They were all cheerfully chatting with each other, and would greet anyone who chose to sat down at their table.
