~ 5th of the Month of Lantafana ~

The day was young. It was early morning, and the sun had not even breached over the horizon. Nor would it this day, as the morning had started off with a full on blizzard. Snow was pilling high in front of the doorstep, a poor look for an inn with plenty of vacancy. While there were many others, most of them of the entertainment sort, one of the permanent residents of this town was making her normal rounds, starting with that pile of snow out in the front. Armed with only a shovel and a long list of to-do's Eliza was prepared for battle. She took a quick look around the bar.

There were round tables five feet long spaced about three feet apart, each with the appropriate number of chairs which were still left up from closing up shop last night. The fireplace was burning away at logs chopped a few days ago in case of this exact scenario. There was a piano standing upright near the bar, with sheet music scattered about, somewhat messy from the recent influx of activity it has seen in recent weeks. The bar stools, like the chairs, were sitting atop the bar after the slow night they had last night. The oil lamps were all aflame, providing the bar with a warm glow, which stood as a stark contrast to the dark blue light that shown in from outside. To top off the cozy, homey feel of the lodge house, she could smell stew in the back. It seemed that Nana was already awake, and cooking. She truly loved this place. In turn, Eliza loved this place. But she wasn't about to let her grandmother go outside and start shoveling snow. She let out a sigh before declaring to a currently empty room,

"Time to get too work..." She opened the door, and was immediately assaulted by the harsh winds and flurry of snowflakes, letting out an exasperated "Argh!"

After she had already closed the door and gotten to work, one of the guests who had been staying with them for a while stepped out of his room, a lute strapped to his back. He grabbed hold of one of the chairs atop a table and pulled it aside next to the fireplace. He picked up the poker, stirring up a few embers that swirled up and into the chimney. Once the logs were all settled in place, he pulled out his lute, and strummed a simple tune, while humming to himself. Occasionally he'd shake his head and start back up, making a few changes to his current train of thought. Occasionally he'd mutter to himself, repeating the lines,

"We stand we Stand
For Aiden of Mand
He smites the defilers
Of our fair land..."

in various orders and iterations and variants, though nothing really seemed to stick with him.

<..< Rodrik Stonehead >..>

The day had started early. No more early than it ever did when Rodrik was set to work, yet it never seemed to get easier. There was a certain blow to morality that came with greeting the sun as it rose, instead of the other way around, and despite the routine of the thing, his back still complained notably about leaving the comfort of his bed. Too, he rued waking his wife from sleep before he left; their son was still yet very young, and she needed as much sleep as she might steal. But René would be furious with him if he left without a goodbye kiss, and that was one anger he did not want to face.

Despite the resentment of the early start, there were yet benefits of it, and as Rodrik closed his front door as quietly as he might, he was greeted with one of them. Rather, he might have been on an average day, but the flurry of cold that greeted him battered his sturdy frame and hide the lightening sky from view. Armor rattling in the wind, he ducked his head into the gale and pressed on to report in.

Captain Tarples glanced up as Rodrik entered, face twisted in what was sure to be a mirror of his own. Despite the apparent eternal winter of the region, one didn't really ever get used to it. Jotting down his officer's name, Captain nodded.

"Gate's covered, Stone; Erst and Konoven are holed up in the gate room, so you've got the run of the town." With a small glance at the blizzard outside, he sniffed. "Find yourself a warm spot. Hopefully this won't last too long."

Crossing his chest to put his left fist on his right breast, Rodrik gave the formal salute.

"When's the last time you saw a quick snowstorm, Ca'n?" he smirked.

"Last time my momma put me down."

"Set a precedence for getting treated by women, eh, Cap'n?"

Tarples glanced up, a good natured glint above a stern frown. Chuckling, Rodrik stepped out quickly and back into the aggressive winter.

He headed straight for the lodgehouse.

There was a warmth there found even in the coldest nights, where your fingers burned and froze and went so numb they felt as though they might simply break off, and it didn't have anything to do with the fires they kept stoked in the place. Whether on duty or not, Rodrik felt for the most part welcome there, where the hostesses greeted new guests with a kind word and an inquiry as to desired service. He'd even brought back home a handful of meals generously provided, and René had declared them nearly as good as her own cooking. So Rodrik approached the lodgehouse eagerly, leaning against his short spear as aid through the snow, thinking to make a straight path for the door. Yet standing outside it was a figure bent against the weather, bearing a laden shovel that she drove again and again into the white pile.

"Eliza! It's too cold for you to be out in the this! Here," he rested his spear against the wall and held out a hand in offer to help. "Please; let me!"

㊄ Aaron Celeste ㊄

As soon as Aaron opened up his eyes to the cold blue light that streamed in from between the slats of his shuttered windows, he knew that once he got out of his bed, the warmth of sleep would leave him and he wouldn't be able to get it back until the wee hours of the morning to come. He stole himself a few more lazy minutes before he had to face whatever weather was howling outside. Breakfast was a pleasant little meal before the hearth, porridge that would help keep him warm as he went about his morning. He got bundled up in the warmest clothes he had, and stepped outside to deal with the day ahead.

It was cold out. Ordinarily he could ignore it, but the wind that was blowing had the chill piercing him down to the bone and he hated it with a burning passion as he dug out the quaint little cobblestone path that lead to his small little cottage at the edge of town. "You could have gone south, Aaron. You could have spent your days on a beach, drinking who knows what out of coconuts, getting your tan back, but-ugh! No. You went north. To the place where the snow perfectly muffles your perfectly good and well-thought out rants." The cold had finally struck a nerve with the male as his cold hands threatened to lose their grip on the handle of the shovel. A slow breath was released as he simmered back down, a cloud trailing from his mouth as he did.

His gaze traveled back up the pathway and filled with seething hatred as he saw a gust of wind sweep the snow right back to where it was before. He trudged back up to the house, set down the shovel and picked up the rope for a small sled that he'd loaded up with firewood for the lodge. He'd gotten a fair amount of wood chopped over there prior to the blizzard, but he preferred being on the safer side of prepared. He managed to move silently through the snow, the only sound coming from the sled as it quietly trailed behind him. He heard Miss Eliza's battle cry from a distance, bringing a small smile to his face. As he approached, he saw the guardsman that frequented the lodge offering the woman a hand.

"Morning to the both of you. Miss Eliza, I brought some more firewood. Storm doesn't show much sign of stopping any time soon, so I figured it would be best to lean on the side of caution." He offered a small smile to the both of them. A gust of wind blew and he sucked in a breath. "Don't think I'm ever going to get used to the cold here..." He commented with a small chuckle, a shiver making its way through him.

Athena Castel

Athena woke in the early morning hours, a habit long created from her training back at the late king's castle. One peak out the window and the red-headed knight knew another snowstorm was abusing the poor town she had decided to call her home about a year and a half ago after she came across it in the beginning of her travels. The ex-knight prepared herself for the day with her normal morning routine and ate a quick breakfast. Once she was ready, she opened up the door to face the blizzard and headed off towards the lodge.

The lodge had once been the place she had stayed herself when she arrived in town one evening, but for some reason, she just decided to make this place her new home and found a small house she could live in on her own. As for the lodge, it became her place of employment. And as the sun began to grace them with it's presence, Athena's steps crunched in the snow, making her way to the lodge.

By the time she arrived at the lodge, her nose donned a light shade of pink caused by the cold. But despite the wind and snow pounding down onto them, she really didn't feel all that bothered by it. Of course it was cold, a human's body could only take so much of that, but years of harsh training had made her used to ignoring rough weather conditions including temperatures.

Athena spotted Eliza shoveling snow in front of the entrance of the lodge and Rodrick, one of their local law reinforcements, offering his assistance to her. And it appeared that Aaron has just arrived with some firewood as well. She pushed through the snow a little more to join them. "Good morning," she said. "May I assist any of you as well?"

Athena main job was security for the lodge, but considering that wasn't something that was often needed especially in a blizzard, she always found herself just offering her help in anything. If they needed her, then she would help. Shoveling snow was never something she learned during training as a knight, but it wasn't hard to learn and after just a little bit of time in this area, shoveling snow became second nature. She could help out Eliza and Rodrick with it if they needed her. Or if they needed her somewhere else, then so be it.

<~<★>~>

Blizzard.

The little raven-haired thing pulled the covers over her head and promptly proceeded to curl up into a small disgruntled ball. An extended moan she let out. But not because of the extra work she would have to put in due to the storm. Nay, none of that, for the lass got along fine with gruelling manual labour.

It actually was the mere thought that tonight's performances may be cancelled if folk no-showed due to the weather. They had all practiced so hard. In fact, they had even invited the wandering musician as guest performer; the Bard, Mr. Andio Flynn.

One final flail of legs and arms made of unfounded frustration resulted in the little thing becoming entangled in her sheets. There she lay a heartbeat longer, then after a sigh she expertly untangled herself and promptly stood upon her floor level beddings. Speaking of Mr. Andio Flynn... Suddenly music began wafting through the lodge. Under a messy shock of raven-hued hair, a wide smile unfurled.

Ample hips began swaying and muscular shoulders soon folllowed suite. Soon enough, an improvised dance/warm-up session began as the teen girl simultaneously got ready to greet the day.

<~~>

This was Rodent, the diminutive yet talented, in-house entertainer for the Stillness Lodge House. Her room was in a small sectioned off part of the attic near the main common room fireplace chimney flue. By no means the greatest space of the lodge, but she however, did get privacy and plenty of warmth by night. All she truly needed and wanted was a bed and a place to keep her belongings. And all the others on staff needed for Rodent to be kept in isolation lest they wish to be kept up all night.

The trap door to her special place in the attic opened up and down dove the little thing. A single mid-air flip as usual with that signature pose after stabbing the landing. A grin glowed in the latern light then a heartbeat later, the little thing was scampering down the hallways at a rapid pace, leaping, kicking mid-air, pirouetting as she went. At the windows she would be in full handstand using her feet to open curtains, revealing what light could be afforded from the snow covered windows. Finally after doing her full circuit of the floor, she ended up in the broom closet pulling out her weapons of choice and donninng full protective gear.

She armed herself with Broom and Feather Duster. She armoured herself with Dustpan, White Bonnet, and Apron.

Another circuit she made on this floor. This time, sweeping and dusting as she went but along the way she performed her Sacred Duties to Protect all Realms of the Known World. The Dragons of the Fading Peaks met defeat and death at the hands of the Utimated Jewel of Power Tipped broom spear, ending their millenia old occupation of the rugs and floors of the corridor. The Daemons of the Unending Portal of Doom met their match as the Ultimated Vindicator of the People charged feather duster ended their siege along the walls, shelves and knicknacks.

These battles would continue as she made her ways to each of the floors of the Lodge. And of course the best part of these battles were the bannnister-sliding entrances into the main entry of the pub and eats area, formally ending all battles for the day.

<~~>

Rodent decided that now would be the best time for a little break.

After a leap leading into a round off flip, she sauntered around and made her way through the doors to the kitchen to greet Cookie. The chef was no where to be seen but they had left a huge pot of water on the boil. Rodent turned the heat down a bit then scampered off to get a stool. So much for her break...

A single leap and perfect pose later, and the little thing was perched on the stool, leaning over the caldron, scooping out hot water and placing it into a giant teapot resting upon a giant linen covered trolley. Once full, the teen somersaulted off the stool and proceeded to place the giant tea ball to steep in the giant teapot. Teacups galore she placed on the trolley along with all the neccessary cutlery and condiments.

A running start she took at the trolley and after much persuasion, the trolley finally squeaky wheeled its way into the common room. Hopefully the other cleaners had taken care of morning duties here, but regardless, it was time to set up the greeting stand and finish her next set of duties: greeting and offering complimentary tea to the guests and staff of the Stillness House Lodge.

Rodent was not the receptionist but she did work with the receptionist and all other 'face' staff members as a gofer and aid. Then later she would move onto to dishwasher aid and help put away dishes, cups and cutlery. Then after that she was free to do her necessary prep for her upcoming performances.

<~~>

The girl slipped on another apron and tied a kerchief round her head with the colours of the standard flag that was mounted on the side of the building. She then fixed herself up a spot of tea. After taking her second sip and smacking her lips satisfactorily, big green eyes popped open even bigger when she heard the voices coming from outside the main doors. One she recognized as Miss Eliza and she perked up. The boss was out there. Better get her stuff together.

From behind the reception desk, she pulled out spare blankets and readied them for those that should enter. Once more she perked up, big eyes becoming huge, shiny and starry.

She was out there too. It was the undeniable inspiring voice of the Heroine of the House Lodge, Lady Athena Castel!

Rodent's knight in shining armour...

The heartbeats in her chest raced away like a thousand charging horses. High pinks flushed her cheeks and she trembled a bit. Heat rushed through her heart and other lady parts. Rodent was now shaking in nervous anticipation; the knight-- nay, she was Rodent's Knight in Shining Armou--

"Ow! Hot...! Ow! Owwie ow! Hot! So hothothothot!!!"

Tea spilled down her chest and she jumped up in pain and surprise, smacking away at her breasts to keep the hot liquid from burning her round girlies. She looked as if she were some crazed girl banging her boobs like drums whist doing a random, wild dervish of a jig.

"Owwie!"

Eliza hadn't even gotten more than 2 shovel-fulls in to clearing the pathway when she was greeted by the infernal-blooded guard of the city watch. Rodrik offered to take care of the shovelling for her. But then, she was greeted by Aaron too! He had a new bundle of firewood. Excellent timing. They were running low. She was just about to open her mouth to speak to the two of them when suddenly Athena decided to make an appearance as well.

"Well... Aren't I the popular one this morning. I have plenty more that needs to be done today. Rodrik, Athena good morning. There should be another shovel out in the shed in the back. Although now that I think about it that's probably not gonna do you much good huh?... Oh well. I'll let you two decide how to take care of that."

She turned around and opened the door back into the warmth inside, just as a gust of wind blew through the hall. On the other side of the room, there was a cry of "M-Ms Eliza! Please, the door!" She only laughed at the bards misfortune, and took her time turning back around to her troupe that had gathered outside. "Aaron, feel free to come inside and drop off those logs. Oh, and whenever you two are ready, I'll have a nice hot cup of coffee brewing. Now then, get to it!"

She closed the door after Aaron, and got started with the brewing of coffee in the back, only to see the diminutive Rodent brushing away spilled tea. "Careful there missy. If I lose you to a 3rd degree burn I would never be able to get everything done. And don't forget to brew some coffee alongside that."

She moved past the small hand, and hid herself inside the cleaning closet. Not too long after, she appeared with a mop, bucket, and broom. Afterwards she got down to business sweeping up any debris from the night before, as Andio kept plucking away at his lute. without a care in the world.

<..< Rodrik Stonehead >..>

"Well, I mean, I wasn't-"

It was too late. Eliza had rattled off a set of instructions before disappearing within, charging him and Athena with the fairly sisyphean task of clearing the ever falling snow from the path to the door. Eliza's shovel in his hand, he glanced after her with a long suffering sigh. There was, he supposed as he examined the newly started work with trepidation, plenty of chance to guard the city from the position of snow shoveler.

"The question," Rodrik observed to Athena, plunging the shovel blade into the snow and getting a good bite with it on the material to be moved, "is whether I should just hand this over to you and trek through the drifts myself, or whether it'd be more entertaining to watch you do it. Eliza is actually your boss, after all."

The corner of his mouth turned up, but he kept his eyes on his work as he tossed a pile of snow aside.

Aaron was careful to brush off as much snow as he could from his clothes before following Miss Eliza inside with his bundle of firewood, a sympathetic smile on his face as he glanced back at Rodrik before the door was shut. Another sympathetic smile went to the visiting bard that had suffered from the wintery blast of cold air. He brought his delivery over to where the rest of the firewood was kept. He heard more than saw Rodent dealing with whatever spill she made, he had little concern for the younger woman. At this point he'd figured out that it was safer to keep his distance from her. She was a bit too energetic for him and he ended up getting a migraine after too long. "Morning, Andio." He greeted the other as he stood near the hearth, warming up a bit. "I hope Miss Eliza hasn't been too devilish with you this morning." He commented with a soft little laugh. His gaze finally swept back over the lodge. Rodent was being herself, Eliza was cleaning up the place. His workstation at the bar was pristine, with him having cleaned up everything last night. "What else needs to be done Miss Eliza?" He asked his employer once he was sufficiently warmed up.

Nagini

Entertainer/Clairvoyant

Upon waking up from the faint voices chattering outside, Nagini burrowed herself into the warm, soft sheets and rubbed the remainders of sleep away from her hypnotizing blue eyes.

It seems her companion Faust, was now awake as it yawned and showed its mouth and fangs, every one with enough poison to kill a dozen of the people below. Its body, a smooth column of armoured muscle, slithered off the bed and into the hard wooden floors before nudging her awake as if to tell her that he's ready for the day and she should be too.

Nagini couldn't help but smile at that.

Through the years, she and Faust had developed a relationship similar to a brother and sister. Faust was the one who usually takes care of her and the one who acts mature but she can't blame him. After all, he's older than her by a hundred years or so.

The snake snuggled its head against her cheek before nudging her harder, signaling that she should really start to prepare for the day. Nagini then sat up and got off the bed before heading directly towards the bathroom to take a bath and change.

Now fully clothed in her short blue top and long red skirt, Nagini casted a warming spell to her clothes to prevent her from freezing before running her hand up and down to pet Faust who was paintiently waiting for her "Alright, I'm done. Seriously Faust! Where do you get all your energy?"

The dancer and the serpent headed downstairs, not a bit surprised to see that there's already people up and about. It was kind of common for the people who stayed at the lodge to wake up early and its something that Nagini was starting to get used to. As usual there was Eliza and the bard who's name was Andio. There's also the resident entertainer named Rodent as well as a guard who she met a couple of times before. "Aiden if I'm not mistaken.." she murmured under her breath only to hear a hiss from Faust

I believe hisssss name isss Aaron, not Aiden.

The blue haired dancer smiled in an attempt to hide her embarrassment from the serpent. "I knew that! I was just testing you"

Ssssure, you are

Ignoring the sarcastic remark of her dear snake, Nagini was decided to join the group by simply approaching the bar with her usual charismatic yet cold smile and light foot steps.

"Morning" she greeted before taking a seat while Faust stood next to her in a regal manner, its green beady eyes focused on them. "It seems you all woke up in the right side of the bed"

"Now pray tell me, did anything interesting happened after our little merriment last night? If I remember correctly someone tried to challenged Ai-..."

Aaron

"...I mean Aaron to a drinking contest before I retired for the night. Care to tell me what happened?"

Athena Castel
It only took Athena once to offer her help to Eliza for the woman to leave the shoveling work to Rodrick and Athena then head back inside the warmth of the inn. The ex-knight then turned her attention to the guard as he spoke out loud about which option he should choose. She watched his movements as he pushed the shovel into the snow.

"I don't mind either way," she replied back so easily without much of any thought. "I was already walking through this snow to get here anyway. What's a few more steps. Besides, you've already started with that one. And you are correct, she is my boss." In fact, Rodrick didn't technically have to help with the shoveling at all. He was a guard of the city, so he was bound to have somewhere else more important to be.

Without letting him really make a decision, and whether he really preferred this way or not, Athena was already heading over towards the shed through the snow. Her footsteps were slower as the depth of the snow made it a bit more complicated for her to walk in. But eventually, the woman found her way to the shed, opened it up, and found the shovel right away. After all, it snowed a lot here. They always needed shovels. Once she had gotten the equipment she needed, she closed up the shed carefully to make sure it wouldn't open back up on its own, and started her way back where her labor was needed.

After a few minutes of being away, she arrived back to Rodrick. Then she began to shovel the heavy snow off of the walkway and out of the way. Once she had started on her orders, she turned her attention to the guard who instead of getting to do his own work was being made to do someone else's. "I'm sure you have more important things to do, Sir Rodrick. I can handle this myself," Athena then said as she took a brief glance over towards the guard. The redhead might not look very strong and durable from her appearance, but the woman could handle a lot more than she appeared she could. "Perhaps I should have just taken your shovel instead so you could get back to your work. I'm sorry."

<~<★>~>

"Blankets for cold'd bodies, mum?

Annnnd...Oh but tis but just a wet spot, mum... nary a worry, tis truth, aye. This lass just be workin' on... on me new dance, Ms. Eliza! Hear ye! Hear ye! If ye'd direct your attentions, Madames et Monsieurs, to the hostess stand!! Graced by Mr. Andio Flynn's smooth n' couth, fully round musical sound! Witness Miss Rodent's fun-tastic moves to the beat of teapots and horse hooves! Aye! Cast yer eyes then!"

The random jig took on an life of its own from failure's dervish to that of a rather quaint and cute fool's clowning routine, crafted through improvision and complete with musical tapping of teaspoons upon teacups to the sound of Mr. Andio's lute playing. Then the tapping turned into a horse's canter, then suddenly welled up into a full on stampede. Just before destroying the teacups with her percussive endeavours, a nervous chuckle turned into a full on grin as she tossed the lot of spoons in the air. As the silverware twirled mid-air, the little teen girl twisted and turned away from the spoons, then at the last second, she reached out and plucked the falling silverware mid-air one by one.

A momentary held breath and pose, face showing firm serenity, as if she realized not the 'wow-factor' of her performance. Finally, she broke her pose and gave a simple, yet long drawn out bow. An award-winning grin she cast the imaginary audience, blowing kisses, using the fanned out, shiny silverware like magic kiss-delivering wands.

"To coffee then, Ms Eliza! Huzzah!"

Needless to say Rodent impressed herself, but not a single word would she ever speak of such vile, self-indulgent vanity. But oh, aye, did she know just how damned good she was. Aye, and again one-thousand fold did the lass ever know.

The door stayed open a heartbeat longer as Mr. Aaron waltzed on in. Big green eyes shone with much anxiousness as she peered past the man and out into the snowy scape he left behind him. ~Did she see me performance just now?~ Her heart fluttered as rich thoughts swam through her head (eyes, lips, heart and other parts of a certain knight filling most of those thoughts). ~...Or did she merely see me spill tea down me blous--

The fluttering of a heart failed. There was still someone out there with the knight. Her knight was out there. With... with him... Alone. And the tone in those voices...? ~Gasp!! Was that flirtation?! Was it?! It had to be--~

SLAM!!

<~~>

The sight to the whispers and glances of hidden agendas and innuendos out there in the snow closed from her and she snapped back to reality. A lone cold stare jilted her. Mr. Aaron's eyes said it all as that subtle glare always said to her. ~'Suffer no fools...' aye, Mr. Aaron. So be it. Suffer no fools then, and this lass will suffer no wood-cuttin' knobheads. Hmph!~

And yet she still cast a polite smile at Mr. Aaron as she rolled the trolley toward the bar counter, wordlessly offering him some tea. She continued on to Mr. Andio, gently bowed politely, and dropped off complimentary tea at the ready for him. Onto Ms. Nagini she went and, again gently bowed politely, dropping off a complimentary tea for her as well.

The girl was busting at the seams, almost shaking with teenaged intensity. She had been told by Ms. Eliza herself to keep nonsensical chatter nulled and not inundate the guests with such girlish-- even childish--- nattering.

Ooooh.... but it was sooooooo hard. Rodent literally bit her lips as passed them and carted her wares into the kitchen, "And coffee shall be served, in but mere minutes, sirs and mums--"

She bit her lips just as soon as she finished speaking. There was soooooo much she wanted to ask, comment and interject about Mr. Andio's music and perfomances. Same with Ms. Nagini and her snake pal, Faust and their performances as well. But alas, lips were bit as ordered, and into the kitchen and back to work it was.

<~~>

"Ms. Cookie, mum...?" she called out to the chef/grandmother of Ms. Eliza. That was not her name but it was what Rodent called her and Cookie seemed to not mind. At least the older woman never said it to the teen's face. "Lookin' to get the coffee on the go, mum. Aye, an' lookin' to drop off the morn meals for our guests if y'gots them ready, mum...?"

She took pause, and turned round momentarily. Rodent stood on her very tippy-toes and peered out the glass of the swinging doors, out from the kitchen and into the common area. Any who stared at the kitchen doors would only see the kerchief'd head and big green eyes of the girl through the windows. Maybe she only stared to see if they needed silver ware and serviettes out there. Perhaps, but perhaps she actually stared at the main entrance, big, green eyes, staring just a little too long, a little too sullen, a little too narrowed. And perhaps a little too, too green with an unwelcome emotion as well.

A sigh that was more a scoff escaped her mouth. She took a deep breath then turned back towards the kitchen, calling out to the chef. Rodent's little face returned its normal happy expression, eyes glinting bright now and opened wide and wondrous as per usual.

"How fare ye this 'oooh-sooooo-wooooonderful' snowy-glowy-blowy-showy-blustery day, Ms. Cookie, mum...?!"
