The Shadow over Varsha

There is a place where children spend their days playing in the seemingly endless sunshine and sleeping under a star filled sky without fear. They know no more than the pain of a scraped knee or a gentle reprimand from watchful parents. Where teenagers swoon and are in no danger further than falling prey to a wistful heart. Where growing up is full of joy and wonder, not humiliation and pain. Where adults gather together as a giant family to raise their children and provide for each other.

This place is Varsha. A land that is home to seven major clans composed of an eclectic collection of were-creatures. Peace has reigned between the clans for as long as anyone can remember and the network of alliances holding the groups together is strong. Varsha stretches as far as any were-creature has ever travelled and is a lush land of forests, lakes and mountains. Food is plentiful and danger is scarce...non existent even. At least, it has been for the past hundred centuries.

But now a darkness has come over the valleys of Thyme, home to the third clan. Children have begun disappearing and the elders have grown restless. When Aleeyah, the thirteen year old daughter of one of the elders goes missing a call is sent to the other clans requesting a meeting of the elders. It is at this meeting where Shyla; Aleeyah's mother, discovers that the other clans have lost children too.

What is this new danger? Who, or what, is stealing the children of the clans and how can it be stopped. As clan members it is your responsibility to find and face this evil...before the future of the Clans is lost.

1st Clan:
Village: Avens
Landscape: Mountainous
Elders: Kahn, Adeara, Darine
Were-creatures: Kanine
Culture: The were-wolves of Avens are a battle-minded people much like the warriors of Grease or Rome. Their villiage is militaristic but not for the fighting advantage that would cause a military government on Earth. Considering that there has been peace for the entire history of Varsha, the werewolves learn to fight so as to stay fit and be more efficient hunters; the werewolves' hunger surpasses all other weres. The werewolves' skills will be put to the test in the future months, hopefully they'll be up to the challenge.

2nd Clan:
Village: Cassia
Landscape: Lake-side
Elders: Alysia, Maara, Alune
Were-creatures: Aquatic
Culture: The Aquatic weres of Cassia spend as much time within the lake their village borders as they do on land. Perhaps more considering that a majority of their home is underwater. Though the Aqua-weres are comfortable on land, they made their home within the lake for convenience and privacy. Little did they know that it would serve to protect them as well. Living underwater limits the landbound technology the other clans have but the Cassians have mastered water power to an extent that puts them at the head of the technological chain.

3rd Clan:
Village: Thyme
Landscape: Hills and valleys
Elders: Shyla, Karin, Rya
Were-creatures: Avian (Birds)
Culture: The wise and graceful Avians are the scholars of the Clans. Their extensive libraries hold the history of the entire world of Varsha. The ability to fly allowed for detailed maps of the landscape as far as any Varshian has travelled and each Clan had a library of its own holding volumes of history, skills and talents. The dedicated minds held by the citizens of Thyme has allowed them to push the limits of reality. Though nothing has been confirmed by the other Clans, it is rumoured that the Avians may have mastered certain magics along the lines of telekenisis, telepathy, and astro projection.

4th Clan:
Village: Kala
Landscape: Hills and valleys
Elders: Alura, Lynna, Karii
Were-creatures: Feline
Culture: The Kalans are very laid back people. Unlike most of they other Clans they don't have specific groups of people that handled different village tasks, instead they each took week-long turns to keep them from becoming bored. Though they are unaware of it, the diversity of this lifestyle has and will serve them incredibly well. Instead of having a speciality, each werecat was skilled in every aspect of living. The only task that did not pass hands was leadership, considering the intricacy of Clan diplomacy.

5th Clan:
Village: Sorrel
Landscape: Plains
Elders: Daas, Nyssa, Chikk
Were-creatures: Reptilian/insectoid
Culture: The cold blooded were living in Sorrel have created domes that are a strange mix between pyramids and hives. Though the court is ruled by the three elders, most of the culture is similar to that of ancient Egypt. The Sorrelians have advanced agriculturally beyond the other Clans, even implementing successful city-wide irrigation in the past fifty years.

6th Clan:
Village: Paracress
Landscape: Plains
Elders: Zedar, Tara, Kheldar
Were-creatures: Rodent
Culture: The logical Paracressans have developed very little of their own. Though they are without a doubt the most brilliant of the were-creatures, they have found that combining the other Clan's lifestyles has made theirs more than comfortable. Paracress is made up of a ring of domes surrounding a small lake which feeds their irrigation. They also use their lake water to power a few of the smaller mechanisms the Avians are having trouble powering. Also stolen from the people of Thyme, Paracressans keep histories of themselves and the other Clans but not to the extent of the Avians. One might almost say that they were predisposed to spying on the other Clans. More for fun and technological advancement than anything malicious however.

7th Clan:
Village: Rue
Landscape: Mountainous
Elders: Hettar, Tira & Kira (twins)
Were-creatures: Mammals excluding feline and canine.
Culture: Native American in nature due to the extensive population of anthropomorphic horses. The Ruians are somewhat nomadic, leaving the camp to travel for months at a time in order to follow herds. Unlike most nomads, however, they always return to Rue. The Ruians are the most eclectic of the other clans; the misfit clan. But this diversity allows them to discover unique ways to work together and that teamwork has created a strength and loyalty within this open-minded Clan that gives them a heart the other Clans lack.

(Typically were-creatures of certain types stick together but if your character was raised with a different species that's fine.)

**If you want to be an elder you need to talk to me first. Thank you.**

wolf

Humanoid Appearance:
Medium length black hair, bright green eyes. Lean but muscular. Roughly 6'3" tall, weighs roughly 200 lbs.

Animal Appearance:
Black fir with bluish-gray underbelly and paws, bright green eyes.

Brief family history:
Allex grew up fighting with his three older brothers and being pampered by his one older sister. His sister is the oldest of the siblings, Allex is the youngest. His father died when he was a pup, and his mother fell ill soon thereafter so it's been up to his sister and brothers, the youngest being almost 10 years older than him, to take care of their mother and him until he was of age.

Character traits:
Outgoing and nice until he gets stressed out. Then he just stews in his anger.

Interest in the Shadow (whatever is stealing the children):
Vague. He wants the clan to stop worrying, but he doesn't really like children so it doesn't bother him that their gone. He just hates that everyone else is so worried so he wants to do something.

Posting Frequency:
Daily
Interest in actively controlling plot:
Mild. I'll control the plot if it pertains to my character, but if it's story plot I don't like to mess with a pre-thought-out story plot.

Hope this is okay, I'm learning about how different this site plays compared to previous ones. We usually didn't think things out so much. This is an awesome thread idea though.

Name: Ka'aw

Age:43

Clan: Avian

Species: Crow

Humanoid Appearance: Tall and dark skinned with long flowing dreadlocks. a nacklace of many strange teeth always adorns his neck. Brilliant golden eyes and a native american body type with many Tattooes of mystical origin

Animal Appearance: A Hulking, oversized crow the sicze of an eagle, skeletally thin with oversized wing having crimson tips. a crown of odd feathers sleks backwards from his forehead and his beaks tip is white, like moonstones... just like his eyes, void and baren of emotion or life. his talons are also the same moonstone white.

Brief family history:Ka'aw Was raised the only son of a particularly 'skilled' scholar. his mysticism became apparent at a young age when an injured sparrow landed on their doorstep. Ka'aw picked him up and nursed him to full health within a day. and impossible feat. Ka'aw has been considered a healer in the village for quite some time, but his true interests have been hidden from teh clan, as he practices darker methods of astral projection, becoming the mist in burial grounds so as to steal away any wandering, bad spirits. He has a perfect record of excellence among the scholars, and has mapped glacier movement in the north in his younger days.

Character traits: Contemplative, reserved and sneaky. a rogue hides beneath his solomn and commanding shell

Interest in the Shadow (whatever is stealing the children): "our sacred right to exist has been defiled. we must seek out the injustice and stamp out this reign of indignity."

Personal notes: I will play him as hiding the secrets of the avian clan of course, but his "studies" coudl prove a problem if he isnt found out, he's on the brink of discovering a solid form way into the netherworld. Yes, he's a necromancer...maybe.

Name: Nilajani

Age:20

Clan: Avian

Species: Martial Eagle- Africa's largest eagle.

Humanoid Appearance:
Nilajani has Dark bronze skin, and a lithe, lean body. She's exceptionally tall, and would be exceptionally intimidating if it weren't for the smooth, fluid way in which she moves. Her slim, willowy build gives her an ethereal, graceful appearance.

She has a thick, long mane of curly hair, which she prefers to keep out of her face by taming it with a lace braid along her scalp which crowns her head in a half moon shape, much like a tiara. The woman has a fondness of sticking random glossy black feathers into her hair, giving her a wild and somewhat windswept look.

Her face has an oval-tine shape to it, with solemn, elegant bone structure. Her most prominent feature are her eyes. Like mirrors, they reflect the world around them. The iris, the whites, and the pupils are all silver. Strangely, she grows disoriented when she peers at her own reflection, and as a result has never glimpsed her own image. Her talons are the same metallic silver.

Another feature to note are her hands. With long, slender tapering fingers, there is no man in the village whose length exceed hers when the length is brought into question. Many say it has contributed to her exceptional skill as an artist and weapons designer.

Animal Appearance:
As a bird Nilajani for the most part has glossy black feathers. The feathers on her chest, belly, and underside however are speckled with white spots. Her wing span is 2'9 meters, which is abnormally large for her species.

Brief family history:
Her mother was frightened for her daughter due to the girl's physical abnormalities. The woman feared that maybe her sight would be impaired, there by deceasing the child's ability to fly. Often Nilajani's mother would impair limitations on her freedom's and punish her for her adventurous nature. Even when the daughter grew to be among the tallest women in the village, her mother had become so used to reminding her of limitations that were non-existent, almost to the verge of being destructive of her daughter's confidence and self worth. As a result, their relationship was strained.

Her father, on the other hand, did the exact opposite. He would often train her, forcing her to work harder, train harder, think faster than the other fledglings her age. Often their daily rituals were performed out of their mother's eyes, in secret. It was through training that Nilajani found that her strength in in the art of telekinesis was extraordinary.

The one she loved most, however, was her little brother, Shaku, who is an empath. Always eager to follow in her footsteps, protect her name, aide her in her endeavors of curiosity, he is her constant companion. Even though he was half her age, it was clear he had twice the capacity for forgiveness and three times more the willingness to forgive people for their faults and failures due to the ability to feel another's emotions with the brush of a finger. Gentle and supportive, he was the one responsible for her emotional growth.

Character traits:
Outwardly: Many find that it is not easy to gain her trust. She will always be the first to question an act of kindness, often believing that there is ulterior motive. She does not tolerate disrespect, and with cut off all associations with an individual who has insulted her. Many find that she is unforgiving once she is betrayed. As a result, she has lost many friends as she has grown, holding grudges for years. However, it has worked to her advantage. The friends she does have give her nothing but the utmost honesty and loyalty. She have never struck a romantic relationship, and what ever romantic interest she would have in a male would never be acted upon.

She is free spirited, questioning things within society structure, never afraid of change. Sometimes he raises questions that are controversial, or cause discomfort. Never has she revealed a secret, or judged another for their actions or their beliefs. Her acceptance of change have gifted her with an open mind and a willingness to listen or compromise even during bouts of extreme rage.

A disturbing tendency she has occurs in ordeals of great emotional stress, instead of shedding tears, she will go into a comatose state, staring blankly, motionless for hours on end. Many speculate it is a way of preserving her emotional stability, or even a form of meditation. None can be sure. It has happened only a few times.

Inwardly:
She is an extremely young woman, which is why it is almost impossible for her to bring herself to forgive those who have hurt her deeply. Her grudges last for as long as it takes for her inner pain to fade. It is the reason she lets so few into her heart. She is more afraid of having it broken than most. Her greatest fear is rejection, or worse, Betrayal.

She finds all forms of bullying or discrimination to be highly unjust, and nothing can invoke her anger more quickly than the downsizing of a friend due due petty differences. She embraces diversity of ideas, and freedom of expression with much appreciation.

Interest in the Shadow (whatever is stealing the children):
She fears for her younger brother who, despite her consistant scolding, has a very trusting and loving nature. He often accompanies her during her daily rituals, but like her he has a thirst for adventure and will occasionally fly over the valley with his peers or even alone.

She fears that one day he will fail to fly home.

Personal notes:
Nilajani for the most part is accepted in the village, albeit with some caution. Her telekinetic abilities are powerful, and used in the most unusual ways. Causing objects to implode upon themselves is a particular favorite activity of hers. Snapping her fingers to propel a seemingly invisible bullet through an object. Making things rip themselves in two. She seems to have a fascination with making things destroy themselves.

Awesome. Looks like we have enough people to really get going. I'll start up a new thread immediately. =D

Name: Desh

Age: 25

Clan: Kalan

Species: Leopard

Humanoid Appearance:
Stands at roughly 6 foot tall, olive complected skin with a few scars from accidents in his childhood. Blue eyes and dark hair round out his facial features. He's a bit of an athelete. Strong and fast but not the strongest or fastest. Desh keeps himself in shape though.

Animal Appearance:
An African Leopard with scatches on his shoulder.

Brief family history: Desh's parents were very skilled in a variety of aspects one would encounter in life. As a result these skills were imparted to him early on. They felt it was vital to pass on their accumulated knowledge so Desh could learn more and pass the sum of that down to his heirs. But Desh never found a mate. His parents died dissapointed at his remaining a bachelor. It wasn't his fault, he just felt...picky and the fact that life was too full of things to do, places to go, people to see to be stuck worrying about this that or the other.

Character traits:
Bold, Fearless, and sometimes brash, Desh tends to put other peoples issues and problems ahead of his own. Highly empathic and tends to display a high emotional iq. He's also pretty laid back and casual. An easy going spirit that is easy to get along with. He makes friends easy but keeps himself guarded enough that no one ever truely gets to know him. The one or two best friends he may have however know every intimate detail about him.

Interest in the Shadow (whatever is stealing the children):
Desh has taken the attacks on future of his people very personally and even though he doesn't have any children of his own, a lot of people are being affected by it and he's very angered by the fact someone would try and alter the peace that has lasted for so long. He enjoys visiting other clans and inter mingling with them. Living with them, learning from them. Any trick here or there he could pick up always helps.

Desh was always a fan of knowing someone everywhere he went, and would go to the extent of cultivating a relationship with someone to satisfy that end. He had friends everywhere. Litterally. Being a traveling vagabond who knew someone everywhere he went helped.

Name: Annie

Age: 19

Clan: Kalan

Species: White Cheetah

Humanoid Appearance: Yello blonde hair in waves till her shoulders and bright blue eyes, Annie stands at exactly five feet. Her body is not muscular, but shows signs of being an athlete.

Animal Appearance: A snow white cheetah with golden eyes. Looks somewhat younger than the average build.

Brief family history: Annie's parents were the kind of over energized folks who were always busy with the village and duties. As a result, she spent much of her childhood freely and without many responsibilities. Although she picked up quickly on all the things she was required to learn, Annie was considered rather spoiled because of her lack of actual work for the village. Despite that public opinion, Annie does do little things here and there to do her part.

Character traits: Bright and highly intuitive, Annie tries to better understand the people around her and draws conclusions quickly. She over-analyzes some situations and finds herself confused often, but still, it's all in good nature. She's friendly, kind and helpful, but can be some what of an airhead once she gets to know you. At first she takes her time to open up to a person, but when she does, she's an energetic, stubborn ball of energy.

Interest in the Shadow (whatever is stealing the children): Annie considers herself as one of the children and thus, feels an innate necessity to get to the bottom of this mystery. She also feels compelled because the mystery is exciting.
